[Q] dial pad problem! - Samsung Infuse 4G

Hello all. i am noob. i just got the infuse last night. used the 010 hex editor to get the unlock code for the phone. i also used that 1click root program. the problem i am facing is that after i did all of this my dial pad is all messed up. the bottom buttons (send key, voicemail key etc) are cut off about half way. its almost as if its a screen resolution problem. was hoping someone has an answer to this better than what att told me which is i need to get a new phone, i really hope thats not the case. please help!

GTG's Ultimate Unbrick will put your phone back to stock.
Then use SuperOneClick to root and I used InfuseRootUnlock_v4, to get my Unlock code.

Any guaruntees it will work? i will try this. and the unlocker you speak of i tried using but kept getting an error message and it wouldnt provide me the unlock code. i guess i could punch in the same one i have written down? I appreciate the help, thankyou.

I don't trust att. My dsl was down, I told them that I knew of three others that were also down.
She had me unplug my dsl modem, then informed me that ghe modem was bad because she couldn't access it.
She then proceeded to try and sell me a new modem. I refused of course, knowing that it was them and not me.
So, no guarantees, but that's what I'd do.
Cranky...

ok. So, i turned the phone off. took out the battery, gave it a second, popped the battery back in, held down both volume buttons while doing so plugged in the usb cable, nothing shows up in the COM line on Oden3.
Sigh what to do now?
Is there any other way I can get the phone back to stock everything?
By the way, if it helps, when i rooted the phone I did NOT install any custom roms, i left it the way it was.
Thankyou for all the help you have been giving me so far.

and Odin recognizes it when i have the phone on and plug it into my computer.
When i boot into down load mode, My computer says that it does not recognize the device? which is weird.
I have also installed Kies

Okay, sorry to be posting endless amounts of posts but i just found something out. This phone must have already been rooted and someone must have already installed a custom rom. i looked at the phone settings and it says its running on "Infused". Now, going into clockworkmod and then into download roms, then to the gtg465x, in BIG BOLD letters it says "WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL YOURSELF! FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS POSTED ON XDA" - Infused v2.2.3
Which is exactly what rom i am running on.
My guess is, is that some "genius" decided not to pay attention to that and follow the directions and screwed it all up. WHICH was not me. Hence, i have not installed a custom rom on this phone.
So back to step one I guess. I sincerely apologize for this, I really do appreciate your help.
Could I install another custom rom such as CM7? Maybe that will fix the dialer issue?

FIXED
okay so i fixed it. All i did was re,download the rom. did both wipes, (didnt do backup, already had one) let it install the rom again, back to normal. Finally.
Thankyou for your cooperation though!

Glad to hear

HTC Touch Pro 2 Brick

Dear Folks at XDA,
I would like to ask for you help with my HTC Touch Pro 2. I recently tried to update it to the new AthineOS CHome TF3D WM6.5 Manila ROM v 1.0 and unfortunately I failed.
The problem is that my phone now freezes at the black startup screen with the Touch Pro 2 logo and the red codes at the bottom.
I've flashed the ROM several times before and never got this issue.
Due to the fact that the phone doesn't finish the boot-up and I thus I can't get ActiveSync I'm afraid I messed up my phone for ever.
Please someone tell me I got a way out of this, I'd appreciate it very much.
Greetz,
SjonSjon
umm.... I don't think you can change the firmware just yet on the CDMA version of the phone... if you used a HardSPL that's available in the Rhodium forums then you probably used a GSM specific ROM on your CDMA phone... not sure what to tell you other than making sure you read the CDMA forum before trying something so risky. Best solution, unless someone knows how fix your phone in it's current state, is to toss it under your car and run it over and try to cash in on the insurance.
Problem solved!
Hey guys,
I got my HTC Touch Pro 2 functioning again. Thought I'd post the solution for other people who might encounter the same issue. I don't exactly know what the problem was. I'm assuming a non-compatible ROM or something, but after opening 30 tabs in my browser and reading my eyes out I found that if you put your phone into bootloader mode and connect it through usb to your computer you can flash the ROM without using activesync.
So I turned my phone off, pressed the power and Volume Down button simultaneously and then used the Stock ROM upgrade software from HTC to restore my phone
This solution beats the hell outta "run it over and try to cash in on the insurance" if I say so myself!
Greetz,
SjonSjon
I am glad you have recovered the beautiful device; and thanks for sharing a working solution.

You just saved my life!!!
Don't get our hopes up! This is the wrong forum. CDMA TP2s can't be flashed at all yet.
This was a life saver post so a quick bump for anyone that needs it.
I unlocked my CDMA phone, installed a few roms -- decided to go back to my stock rom default (which was Telus) -- reinstalled and bam -- bricked.
Well, technically it's not a brick if you can get back into the bootloader to reflash. So no worries everyone. If everyone reads instructions well enough we should hopefully see zero "real" bricks. Or at most, just enough to only build bbq pit rather than a house.
I think my phone is truly bricked
I was unlocking my phone (the HTC Touch Pro 2 <Verizon>) and I was using a Diamond unlocker (I thought it would be fine), but during the process there was a connection error and now my phone seems to be bricked. I can't get it to even turn on, get to a bootloader screen, or anything even remotely close.
The one odd thing that it does though, is when I connect it to my computer, it pops up and my computer recognizes there is a device there. In my Device Manager there is an unknown device called: Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM. I have tried every combination of two buttons, including holding down the reset button with all of them, but nothing gets me anywhere.
If anyone could help, I would really appreciate it. Let me know if you need any more information.
my cdma is rebooting endlessley i reflashed stock rom and evorything. it seriously dosnt want to work. its most sadness... i am cashing in on the insurence. but they are going to send me a refurb..
spend 600$ on a phone got inurnce i hope the used one dosnt fail me.

I did the same exact thing to mt TP2. Same outcome.
We have to learn somehow....
That stinks man. If you did, then your phone is truly bricked. You are going to have to get a replacement or switch to another phone because there is nothing you can do to get it going again. I tried everything possible and eventually just ordered a replacement. I have it now and it's working beautifully, but needless to say I am a little scared away from any more unlocking or flashing for a while.
If you read carefully you dont have to be scared of flashing
I was a noob some time ago but before doing anything I took care of reading and understanding before doing nothing.
lesson learned
By now I have flashed more than 60 times on 3 diferent HTC devices and all were a succes
Hope you get your TP2 working again!
I hope I can get there
Someday I hope to be a flashing expert, but until then I will take it slow and read carefully. Thanks for your encouragement. When I actually get money to pay for the unlock for my TP2, I will let you know how flashing goes.
How do you keep the phone in bootloader? Mine goes right to the press volume instuction screen. Other than that I'm stuck on the black name screen, also my usb will not register in device manager. This was my first try at flashing.

[Q] What Have I Done?!!?

Hi. This is my first time posting. I apologize in advance, im going to come across as a noob.
I got tired of waiting for google to get 2.3 to the N1 users. I decided it was time to unlock and root my phone, after all thats what it was designed for. Up until this point the phone was stock with all updates. I thought one touch root no longer worked. I dont know why i thought this. I used a guide to work through it. I cannot post links otherwise i would. ilikemygooglephone . com is where it came from
Everything worked according to this guide until I completed it and powered my phone on for the first time. I thought I was going to see a stock wiped nexus one...Instead I got shafted.
The phone reboots randomly. It happens quickly and unpredictably.
Notification bar will never slide down. If i try to the phone lags but never shows notifications.
No 3g
No wifi
The phone says I have no service (selected network tmobile unavailable) although I can still make and receive calls.
The sd card will not mount. I cannot access it on the phone. When pluggen into my laptop the phone will charge but wont give me the option to access the sd card.
At times the graphics are buggy and dont operate properly
There are probably other problems that i am forgetting but I think this says enough. Since i cannot access the SDcard I really dont know what to do.
Im sorry if this thread is in the wrong place or happens to be a previously answered question. I just really like my phone and I hope its not wasted. Can someone tell me what I did wrong or how i can get this right.
YEAH i noobed it.
I freaked out on the above issue for about 5 hours. Now I believe i have everything back to normal. My problem was i didnt load the proper superboot. Once i found the FRG83 one and redid the process using that instead it worked fine. Either i was using the wrong superboot or i had a corrupted download somehow.
Feels good to figure it out on my own though....i feel...less noob.....NAH

[Q] Samsung Captivate-advice buying used

Hi all,
I'm looking for a Samsung Captivate, and i saw one online for $100, but the phone won't start. From what the seller said, it was rooted, and it'll boot up, but the phone then states something to the effect that "the launcher is not responding". My question is this: I don't have experience with Android phones, but does this sound like something that can be fixed using software methods?
I'm experienced with iPhone jailbreaking and WP7 hacking, so I'm not afraid of the challenge, i just want to know if there's a good chance of reviving the phone (assuming there's no physical/water damage)
Thanks in advance!
Launcher issues are easy to fix, fixed even easier with a factory reset which I assume you will do if the seller hasn't. If it's been factory reset and it's giving those issues....well I can only see that happening if there is a custom ROM loaded.
Either way, if you believe it boots, I would buy it. The launcher is basically your home screen, and if the phone can load that far, that's all software level stuff, easy to fix. I own a captivate and I always liked the phone, but rooted and ROM'd it is SO much better. Hope this helped
Hey, thanks so much for the reply! I'll see about piking it up today and let you know what happens
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
No problem man, if you need help when you get back with it let me know. I'll be glad to help with whatever
So i got the phone today. The phone was pretty laggy, so i used the Odin3 one click sw to bring it back to stock. It worked, but the phone is still laggy. Wouldn't you think that flashing it back to stock would fix any issues with it? I tried it twice.
Also, when i try to open the applications section, it tells me that "TWLauncher is not responding", even after flashing it. I was thinking about just flashing it to CM7, but i have to get the .zip file onto an sd card so i can flash it from recovery. Do you think this might help? Thanks in advance!
Honestly man, my captivate was just like that (laggy), TWLauncher is the UI launcher, TouchWiz. There are thing's about it liked but mostly I hated it. I would root and ROM the phone with something stable (I run CM7, there is finally an RC for captivate). Also, Odin puts the phone back to 2.1, and there was all kinds of GPS bugs and stuff with it, they have 2.2 stock for it now, which runs a bit better but I still don't like.
Also, try removing the SD Card from the phone, in case it's a ****ty one and causing lag while loading in the beginning. That may not help at all, I'm no expert, but I am a huge nerd and it makes sense to me. Just realize the stock firmware on the phone ruins the experience a bit.
Edit: I didn't notice the CM7 part, just make sure the zip is in your main directory, don't put it on either of the SD cards (internal or external).
So the .zip actually goes onto the phone memory itself? That makes sense. I'm having issues getting my phone to mount and the computer to recognize it. My computer doesn't see it as an external drive. I'd try to go to the settings and change it to mass storage, but the stupid TWLauncher isn't working!
Can you load the android market? Try to get ADWLauncher, the free one. Get that installed, and when you push the home button it should ask you which launcher to use. Choose ADWLauncher, possibly reboot, and try again. Again, I hate TWLauncher, it was the first thing I replaced on my phone.
edit: lol, don't forget to hit "use as default" before you select ADWLauncher.
edit again: Dammit, I'm terrible at this...if you can't get android market open, make sure your phone stays on, go to the android market website, and install it from there. That should work for sure
Ok, so I used Odin3 one click version 2.2 (which has froyo and the JI6 build number. Everything works fine, but I'm not able to get out of airplane mode and get cell signal. the phone says the baseband version is unknown. If i use the Odin3 One click 2.1 (build JF6, the phone is in the same unresponsive state it was when i first got it. It doesn't even take me to the setup when you first launch the phone.
It's really weird. I wonder if there's was a way to flash it back to stock without one click. I'm wondering if the ROM in there is corrupt or something. The reason why i want to get back to Android2.1 is because all the CM7 tutorials say to start from there. So yeah. Any other suggestions?
Oh, i got rid of TWLauncher, and yeah. I hate that thing!
Well...the Odin I used took my phone back to base stock 2.1, after I was already on 2.2, you 2.2 has this sig verification crap and you can't flash anything. So I'm not sure which Odin I have, but it took it to 2.1, I imagine yours should too... This problem may need someone smarter... So make sure the Odin you are using is meant to take you to 2.1, make sure it specifically says it's for captivate. If both of those are verified, odin isn't working for some reason. Did you follow the Odin guide for captivate to make sure you didn't miss anything?
Well, i found a random thread on the CM7 forums that said to try using Odin regular, and flashing the original firmware. So i did that and it worked! The phone was usable again! Only thing was that i didn't have any cell service. So i flashed the CM7 ROM and the baseband was fixed. All is well, and i'm loving my device. Thanks so much for your help!
Woot! Man I'm super glad you got all that working, I had to return a Captivate due to no service...so I'm glad CM7 fixed that for you. Super awesome that it's working, glad I could help bro. Enjoy!

[SOLVED] No service, no imei, more info within...

Hello, thank you for reading this, to start with.
First off, here are the specs of the phone I am asking about:
Galaxy S 4G exclusive from T-mobile
Model #: SGH-T959V
Firmware: 2.2.1
Kernel:2.6.32.9
Build #: FROYO.VUVKD1
If that's not enough please ask.
Back Story: Phone was given to my ex by his mother. It was for T-mobile, which don't have good plans for pre-paid/pay as you go in my area. So I was asked to make it work for ATT. I rooted using Superoneclick, and then did the hex voodoo and unlocked the phone. It worked for a few months, no problem. There was no data plan so no phone internet was acessed, wifi was but only rarely. It DID work.
Then, the other day, my ex dropped it. It worked just fine for a minute or two, but now is stuck with no service, and such. No imei number. No phone number. Nothing. Searches for the provider. Sim card has been replaced just in case. I've restored and re-rooted, but i couldn't re-unlock the sim # as the hex editor couldn't find the code. AND the sim doesn't ask for an unlock code when inserted.
I have googled and searched my tushie off to figure this out. All my answers are bad flashing of roms and such, and the last anything that was done to it out of ordinary use was me unlocking it, and it worked for months.
Keep in mind that i haven't a clue what flashing a rom means, or what odin is (i read that several times, haven't a clue what it is), and I know how to follow step by step instructions as long as they use reasonably understandable terms to the android nooblett.
I am currently running on an ubuntu laptop, so downloading and running anything means I download, put it on a flash drive, and install it or run it on a windows computer that doesn't have internet access (long story, i'm rambling as it is).
Some extras:
I did not do any backups, because everything worked for the longest time anyways.
I've tried a few things involving nv_data.bin and the like, but it seems they don't exist or are hidden from my silly self.
I have to re-root and such as I've just performed a factory reset to see if that would fix the issue.
I am extremely tired so I'll likely do nothing tonight, including responding, as I have to work tomorrow and lots of other things.
I am a rambling idiot, feel free to mock me for it, but i do try and give out as much information as I can.
Any questions? If not, please, please, please tell me an answer that doesn't involve sending this phone back, because it's long out of warranty and has passed through many hands (the previous people did not like t-mobile either...).
And thank you for reading the ramblings of this idiot.
Are you sure it's not a hardware issue? I dropped my old iPhone 3G and it stopped recognizing my SIM unless it was placed just right. Have you tried any other SIM cards in there? Take a look at my SGS4G carrier unlocker (link is in my signature) and see if it scans through your nv_data.bin file correctly. I never liked that people encourage direct editing of that file. :/
Have you tried seeing if Samsung Kies mini will recognize your phone? Since you still seem to be on factory stock and did a factory reset.... download Kies mini, plug your phone in and see if it will recognize it. Kies mini - in case you are unaware is Samsung's software to update our phone.
If it recognizes your phone - try to do the upgrade to Gingerbread. If it will upgrade to Gingerbread, it might rewrite your efs folder - which is where the IMEI and phone information is stored. If it doesn't rewrite the efs folder... it shouldn't matter if your phone is out of warranty as Kies mini - you will say and not mention the other stuff you have done - messed it up during the upgrade... which is happening to people more than you would think. Take it back to where you purchased the phone and give it a shot. Or try contacting Samsung. Many have done that as well. You need a computer you can download Kies mini to and do the upgrade... in other words - a computer with internet access you can work on.
o You may start with another Factory Reset
o Download Kies mini if you do not already have it. < - - Click link here for Kies mini - When you follow this link you will see two tabs - 'Manuals' and 'Software' - click software and download.
o Make sure your phone is charged.
o Make sure USB Debugging is off.
o Start Kies mini on the computer.
o Make sure phone is not connected to computer yet.
o In USB Settings on phone select ‘Kies (Firmware update)’ if it is not set to ask every time.
o Plugged in phone, let device drivers install on computer. You will see a notification on your computer when complete.
o Then Kies mini will recognize the phone.
o Hit upgrade and wait.
o Phone will eventually reboot. Check your IMEI.

You owned an iPhone FB? Damn!
FB is one of the best on here... however, if you are on stock you should try an upgrade if Kies mini will recognize your phone. I have read flashing stock - in this instance via Kies mini - has many times rewritten the efs folder for people with IMEI problems. Either way - if he is on stock everything he can take it in to T-Mobile and ask for you?
Thoughts on that FB?

I still have it lying around and it's bricked. I wanna try flashing it again with another USB cable but I can't find my spare.
Hmm, haven't ever tried the kies mini approach but it's worth a shot, especially if it'll restore the /efs directory.
If it IS fully stock, then yes take it in to T-Mob and see if they'll give you a replacement and next time don't go editing anything in /efs directly.
Thank you everyone. I will try these things later today. Like I said the only things I've personally done to it are root and unlock. I dunno what happened and its possible it could be hardware, but ill try updating it through kies first. Again thank you, ill keep you updated on what happens.

Hi,
If the problem is solved for you please edit the title in the OP and add [SOLVED] to it
10x
Ok Guys/Gals, I'm stumped...
Followed the instructions. Mini Kies on computer that works with it (windows vista 32 bit), waited til kies told me to plug in the device. I did. Drivers installed. I waited. And waited. And waited. And waited a bit more. Then it pops up for me to enter a pattern. No pattern had been established with that phone before. So I set one up on the phone, and redid all that, thinking that's all I had to do. Asked me for the pattern again, I put it in.
Here are the steps i'm taking.
Mini kies asks me to plug in my phone.
I do it (this is the phone in the thread, not my actual phone).
And I wait. A while, actually. Somewhere in the line of 1-5 minutes.
And now i get a little popup. "Pattern" the header reads. "The mobile phone is locked. To connect, use the mouse to enter the pattern as specified by the mobile phone." Followed by the pattern unlocker.
I place the pattern i created on the phone in to the one on the computer. It must not be right (as there was none to begin with, and i had to create new and redo this whole step) because now it reads:
Firmware version: device cannot be upgraded
Firmware upgrade: (this is a blank nothingness)
Agh, don't get me wrong, i love this stuff, but after dealing with a defaulty U-scan computer all day (i am a cashier...), computers are not on my good list.
Please help ?
Ok, so after hours of crying, moaning, cursing, yelling at the phone, cursing SD cards for being so small, cursing the better phone for being more retarded than it's cheapo brother the Prevail, I fixed it.
I was so frustrated, i reset everything, again. Still wouldn't work with kies. Checked everything. Made sure I was doing everything right. Googled every last letter i could find about my issue.
I wanted to throw the phone, but instead, i took the battery out, the sim card out, and the SD card out, and cursed each and every one of them out. Before I continue, let me say, that I'd done this before, for approximately the same time, if not longer. Then, i threatened their inanimate lives and put them back, and tried to do the kies update. Turned on the phone, not expecting any miracle of any sort. Suddenly the phone's alive with all sorts of missed calls and texts and who knows what else. So while the phone is no longer rooted, it's still unlocked, and works like a dream again.
TL;DR version? Took the battery, sim, and SD card out for a while. Even though I'd done this as the first thing i did when this issue started happening, perhaps yelling at them made the difference.
Thank you all for putting up with me and my rambling idiocy.
Awesome, glad you got it working again. Maybe we need to put "threatening sdcard/SIM card" methods into the wiki...

I threaten my phone with a trip to the recycling yard all the time. It works.
And to the OP glad you got it figured out. A few people with the imie issue have used the pull battery wait ten approach and it seems to work.
Glad you fixed it.
I strongly suggest you make a copy of your efs folder in case you have an IMEI issue again. I keep a copy of my efs folder on my external sdcard and my PC.

[Q] Arrgh.. BRICK!!

OK, My first attempt at messing with the firmware on an Android phone resulted in dismal failure and a dead phone..
Here's the scenario as events unfolded..
Bought an unlocked Galaxy S 4G
Trying to connect my phone to my PC resulted in dismal failure, wondered if it might be a dodgy firmware someone had installed.
*#2663# to update the TSP firmware. This just hung on the updating screen. Eventually the battery gave out. (Don't ask me why I was updating the Touch Screen Panel Firmware, I don't know.. I was fiddling. )
Recharged the battery and rebooted the phone.. Menu and Back buttons on touch pannel light but don't work.
Searched this forum and many others, seems to be a common problem but no clues as to how to resolve.
So I downloaded Odin 307 and the USB drivers, put phone in download mode, installed the following via Odin
CODE_T959VUVKG4_CL385158_REV00_user_low_noship.tar
SGH-T959V-CSC-TMB-VIBRANTP.tar
T959VUVKG4-Phone-CL1037720.tar
Worked fine, but didn't fix the issue with the TSP.
Somewhere I read that maybe it was partition corruption, so I decided to repartition. Ticked the "Repartition" box and used Hawk_Sidekick_VibrantPlus_831.pit (All four of these came as a package I found linked to on this site somewhere.) Odin said it was ok, but now I can't even power the phone on. Screen stays blank. Computer does not recognise USB device. Odin doesn't see it. It seems to be dead.
So.. Is there a rescue remedy from this scenario, or do I use this piece of glass and electronics to wedge my door open?
Please help I'm not going to pretend I knew what I was doing, but I'd like to unbrick this thing so I can at least make phone calls on it and send emails to people saying what a plonker I've been..
Thanks. :crying:

Ok, so I managed to get it into Download mode and reflashed it in Odin. I'm going to have a go with "oneclick" and see what happens, but at this point the only outstanding thing to fix is the TSP, which is still kaput. (Maybe one click will fix that) I've searched and searched on this forum, there's a whole bunch of dead threads where people have killed their TSP, and no resulting fixes posted. If anyone has any ideas, its would be great if you could post them, because at the moment, "menu" and "back" are still U/S.
Thanks for your help so far. If I get a solution, I'll post it here, I hate abandoned threads where people leech solutions to their probems and don't give feedback.
OK, So I tried this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23121150&postcount=12&nocache=1&z=6720291850525859
No luck..
Next thing to try is an older version of the O/S, apparently if I put on then it downgrades one of the firmware, and running the update again fixes the issue. (On can only hope.. Now I gotta go see if I can find an older version of the OS and try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21987511&postcount=9
:fingers-crossed:
Oh well.. On the plus side, I bought this little cheap phone to play around and learn on.. I seem to be doing just that. :cyclops:
