[Q] CWM Nandroid Backup on ICS CM9 Safe?? - Samsung Infuse 4G

My infuse is running ICS CM9 5/27/2012 build and it's just the way I like it. Then, performing a Rom Manager Backup Current ROM soft bricked my phone and it is confirmed here that this is a known issue. I was freaked out for a while but managed to Heimdall One-Click-Unbrick to get back to download mode so I could flash to stock GB, root, and install red CWM and then flash to ICS CM9.
So now I am kinda worried that running a CWM Nandroid Backup may also brick my phone after reading this. I know this is referencing a different phone but it is using ICS and CM9. So I could use some advice or guidance here. With ICS CM9 on my iNfuse, is there any risk to bricking my phone doing a nandroid backup?

We have a completely different storage architecture than the E4GT. No eMMC chip, no Superbrick bug.
Edit: Also, on affected devices, at this point nearly all source-based kernels are safe. E4GT is one of the few devices still on leak repacks with CM9.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to perform the CWM backup with no issues. Haven't tried a restore yet but I will at some point...

[Q] Need CWM for sgs4g 2.3.6 official.

Has anybody got a version of CWM that will work on the sgs4g? I accidentally flashed the galaxy s CWM from rom manager before finding this forum. Nothing has changed on the phone, except if i boot into CWM recovery i always get verification errors.
Also, are there any ROMs for the sgs4g that is running 2.3.6?
Thanks to anybody who can help.
Get rid of ROM Manager. I've read it doesn't work well on this phone. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331 for a 2.3.6 ROM with the latest CWM/root/voodoo lagfix.

You should try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1422824
When it is time to choose a package pick the one that includes the beta 2d kernel from the Kj6 collection. Learning the one click method will also give you every thing you need should you make a mistake and need to recover from a soft brick

This may just be a noob question and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm running 2.3.6 as well and want to flash Valhalla Final onto my device. The instructions say you must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery. Do I need to use Heimdall and load a kernel with clockwork recovery or is there another way to get the CWM? I am still learning the basics of all this stuff. Forgive my ignorance.

Since you're already on GB (2.3.6) you can do this, if you're not rooted follow:

Save the wiki to your bookmarks. We're updating it constantly so you'll always get the most up to date info from there. Also spread the word when other users need help, point them to the proper section in the wiki .
Thanks to everyone for their insight. My sgs4g is no more now. Luckily, I learned a lot about flashing with it before it died. Including unbricking. Still haven't gotten heimdall to work. But I think I have been trying to run the regular exe instead of the front end. We'll see. Hopefully I get paid this week to cut on the internet again. Killing me here.

CWM

This is making me nuts!!! I keep reading references to clockwork mod. Where the heck does one find that file? I assume it's phone specific!? I know it's part of Rom Manager but I'd rather avoid that program. When do you flash with CWM vs flash with Odin?
Thanks all

Welcome to xda buddy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24085665 that's the Touch CWM thread you have to use this version to install the IcS roms for the SGH-I727 (skyrocket) or T-989 (Hercules on tmobile)
Also you Odin when you're going back to stock or adding a new recovery. Most everything else can go thru CWM. The threads will lay out specifically which to use and when to use it
This http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19262010 is the basic Odin thread. Read and learn my friend.

Thanks for that, But I have the Rogers version (i727R) and I don't think I can use the touch version! But I maybe out to lunch on that.
I give that link a good read anyway!
Stew
Thanks again Androidsc. I read the thread and there were some fellow Canucks reporting good results with their sgh-i727R and the CWM touch!!
next step
OK! I now have CWM touch in the phone. Going to try the lastest Sky Rom. Don't know what's in the zip file but should I do a rom B/U first and a Titanium B/U too before theis next big step?

I'm not sure about sky ics on Rodgers either but ask Sean he can tell you. But to answer your question about backing up yes always make a nanadroid backup of your current working rom before flashing anything. As far as titanium backup that's your personal choice I do backup my apps and data with titanium backup and restore them from there and never had no problem but again I'm not on Rodgers and no nothing of how Rodgers works but Sean the dev of sky ics could probably answer all that for you to...

Back-up

Hey,
If i restore a backup that i created from stock 4.04 ICS will that return me to "stock" and prevent verizon from finding out that I ever rooted or flashed CM10?
I am thinking about returning my phone.
Thanks!

Kind of, you would need to restore the backup, use ez recovery to install stock recovery, then unroot the phone.
This is all assuming you've never installed another radio. I personally would just Odin back to stock

Yes, agree, use Odin and flash a G1 stock firmware is your best bet.

So Odin back to stock would be my best bet. I did install a new radio but reception is horrible with these JB ROMs. My ICS ROM stock ROM had great reception. I can't seem to fix it.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
I mean I like jelly bean cm10 but I can't justify the reception loss for new software. If anybody had a fix for this let me know.

I actually asked about the radios because those aren't replaced when you restore your nand so Verizon (if they looked) could tell it was customized. As far as radios and reception is really what works for your phone and area. For instance, I'm on Eclipse with the new radio and it's better then ever. Others on Eclipse have reported the new radio putting them into roaming.

Flashing from ics back to gingerbread in cwm

I am trying to revert from an ics rom to a gingerbread rom via cwm. Is there anything special I have to do?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Assuming your cwm is up to date just wipe cache and system then flash. But ALWAYS remember to make a backup first.
On a side note, ever use twrp?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ummm, its a little more complicated than Flashing.Lol
You are reverting system files and such. Grab you a STOCK image from Sammobile than flash in Odin following the steps outlined in konanes thread in the dev section. Don't ever flash backwards between versions of android in cwm, you'll soft brick your phone. Bad advice ^^^^dude

[Q] Issue with samsung galaxy sgh t959v upgrade to JB

HI Gurus,
I own the samsung galaxy sgh t959v running on official tmobile stock gigerbread 2.3.6. Recently, I've tried to update it to run on JellyBean(4.1.1) trying to follow the below tutorial.
First you need the ODIN files(to go back to stock) : goo.gl/An7S (scroll down for where it says download and download the 4 files in there )
put this file in your sd card with the other one . if you dont have this file then you wont be able to use recovery mod :goo.gl/FuHFJ
Then you need to root your phone : goo.gl/oW4WO
USE THIS LINK (FOR ROOT)IF NOT FIRST ONE WORKING : dl.dropbox.com/u/13517705/SGH-
Then you gotta update your phone to CM-7 (gingerbread)(2.3.7) : goo.gl/rjFRj
then , you need chimera 2.2 ( ICS )(4.0.4) : d-h.st/uwi
and finally , you need to install panaroid android(JB)(4.1.1): goo.gl/Frl3z
gapps : goo.gl/jN55d

tried update my phone to CM-7 (gingerbread)(2.3.7) : goo.gl/rjFRj only to land into this problem.
I am not able to boot up to download mode either so that I can re-flash the basic stock version.
tried installing chimera 2.2 ( ICS )(4.0.4) : d-h.st/uwi as well but no luck.
I've tried everything from trying to wipe out the data/factory reset.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Madhu
You flashed vibrant (SGH-T959) ROM and recovery and not SGS 4G (SGH-T959V).
These are 2 completely different devices.
I hope you haven't bricked your phone.
Try the one-click back to stock - specifically section 2...
and if it works, flash only ROMs appearing in this forum development section.
Good luck!
It works

You can flash any of the ROMs listed in these SGS4G forums. However, make sure you read the instructions carefully for each ROM, as some require you to have already been on an ICS ROM due to file system changes. Do not flash anything for the Vibrant or any other phone or you will have serious problems. Good luck!

Antonx basic with a twist or bhundvens blastoff v2.5 are two good ones to use
If you don't care for GPS - I'd go with one of our great aries 4.2.2 ROMs.
till this fuctionality is added,
If you want a GPS on your daily driver, you'll have to flash an ICS ROM, such as
