CWM - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

This is making me nuts!!! I keep reading references to clockwork mod. Where the heck does one find that file? I assume it's phone specific!? I know it's part of Rom Manager but I'd rather avoid that program. When do you flash with CWM vs flash with Odin?
Thanks all
Stew

Welcome to xda buddy
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24085665 that's the Touch CWM thread you have to use this version to install the IcS roms for the SGH-I727 (skyrocket) or T-989 (Hercules on tmobile)
Also you Odin when you're going back to stock or adding a new recovery. Most everything else can go thru CWM. The threads will lay out specifically which to use and when to use it
This http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19262010 is the basic Odin thread. Read and learn my friend.

Thanks
Thanks for that, But I have the Rogers version (i727R) and I don't think I can use the touch version! But I maybe out to lunch on that.
I give that link a good read anyway!
Stew
Thanks again Androidsc. I read the thread and there were some fellow Canucks reporting good results with their sgh-i727R and the CWM touch!!

next step
OK! I now have CWM touch in the phone. Going to try the lastest Sky Rom. Don't know what's in the zip file but should I do a rom B/U first and a Titanium B/U too before theis next big step?

I'm not sure about sky ics on Rodgers either but ask Sean he can tell you. But to answer your question about backing up yes always make a nanadroid backup of your current working rom before flashing anything. As far as titanium backup that's your personal choice I do backup my apps and data with titanium backup and restore them from there and never had no problem but again I'm not on Rodgers and no nothing of how Rodgers works but Sean the dev of sky ics could probably answer all that for you to...

hello all,
tried flashing using cwm the new rom that's floating around...tried wiping always getting stuck at the galaxy s 4g boot screen. Well i can't boot into recovery, sort of freaking out here. I hold the buttons and it just goes back to galaxy s 4g screen not into recovery like it usually does. Any ideas?
Even if u cant get into recovery as long as the device will go into download mode again then ur okay! Just reodin the KD1 whitehawkx if thats what u where on. Sucks starting all over but thats the price we pay to test. Good luck my friend and never fear your device is not bricked it is still recoverable.

Odin back in..from there look into krylons cwm recovery and back up..the official cwm back up and restore results from other members dont seem to be doing well. After that you should be able to restore and not have to worry

is kyrlons cwm recovery and back up a different thread?
yes it is a different thread i believe its called CWM Final. Im running Stock KD1 from whitehawkxs, fota&fugu tweaks plus the gb theme and the bali 1.4 kernel... pretty smooth..
on another thought you probably should have posted this in the general section. just a heads up..
Good advice depackers1 but i think he was already using CWM and had backups but he got himself into a bootloop that wouldnt allow him to get into recovery so he couldnt use CWM. In this case if a person cannot even get into download mode then u will have to use a jig probably.
And kkoshko1 since it seems u are starting from scratch and u said u were on stock rooted so i assume u mean KB5. I would recommend trying whitehawkx KD1 ODIN. U might as well update to the best rom we have right now. KD1 is still stock but has some improvements from KB5. Hope that helps.

Sure thing brother! Glad we could help!!!!!!! Odin will always be your bestfriend. Since u were on stock here's a couple more suggestions. Try out drhonks bali kernel. It will save u a ton of battery life and open the door for a few other awesome things that u can find out in the bali thread. U can also free up some internal storage with the fota fix. Try the apk that one of our members created. Also try the fugu tweaks. It will make your application processes much faster. Welll have fun bro and im sure glad u got her up and running again!

[Q] Need CWM for sgs4g 2.3.6 official.

Has anybody got a version of CWM that will work on the sgs4g? I accidentally flashed the galaxy s CWM from rom manager before finding this forum. Nothing has changed on the phone, except if i boot into CWM recovery i always get verification errors.
Also, are there any ROMs for the sgs4g that is running 2.3.6?
Thanks to anybody who can help.
Get rid of ROM Manager. I've read it doesn't work well on this phone. Check out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331 for a 2.3.6 ROM with the latest CWM/root/voodoo lagfix.

This may just be a noob question and I hope I'm posting in the right place. I'm running 2.3.6 as well and want to flash Valhalla Final onto my device. The instructions say you must have pre-installed kernel with clockwork recovery. Do I need to use Heimdall and load a kernel with clockwork recovery or is there another way to get the CWM? I am still learning the basics of all this stuff. Forgive my ignorance.

Since you're already on GB (2.3.6) you can do this, if you're not rooted follow:

Save the wiki to your bookmarks. We're updating it constantly so you'll always get the most up to date info from there. Also spread the word when other users need help, point them to the proper section in the wiki .
Thanks to everyone for their insight. My sgs4g is no more now. Luckily, I learned a lot about flashing with it before it died. Including unbricking. Still haven't gotten heimdall to work. But I think I have been trying to run the regular exe instead of the front end. We'll see. Hopefully I get paid this week to cut on the internet again. Killing me here.

A. If you asked this in 20 different threads you are trolling!
B. More importantly, if you asked this in 20 different thread in 26 minutes..you damn sure can type fast!
C. In my experience, Nandroids do not include the modem / radio. Flash the radio you want first (to be on the safe side) and then flash the nandroid.

Yep, the L5 modem is not good for happiness.
Best to flash UCALC3.
Lot easier if flash back a good GB ROM that has RADIO AND KERNEL then you can just nandroid back to your favorite settings.
My 2 cents.

[Q] CWM Nandroid Backup on ICS CM9 Safe??

My infuse is running ICS CM9 5/27/2012 build and it's just the way I like it. Then, performing a Rom Manager Backup Current ROM soft bricked my phone and it is confirmed here that this is a known issue. I was freaked out for a while but managed to Heimdall One-Click-Unbrick to get back to download mode so I could flash to stock GB, root, and install red CWM and then flash to ICS CM9.
So now I am kinda worried that running a CWM Nandroid Backup may also brick my phone after reading this. I know this is referencing a different phone but it is using ICS and CM9. So I could use some advice or guidance here. With ICS CM9 on my iNfuse, is there any risk to bricking my phone doing a nandroid backup?

We have a completely different storage architecture than the E4GT. No eMMC chip, no Superbrick bug.
Edit: Also, on affected devices, at this point nearly all source-based kernels are safe. E4GT is one of the few devices still on leak repacks with CM9.
Thanks for the replies. I was able to perform the CWM backup with no issues. Haven't tried a restore yet but I will at some point...

(Q) Brick bug?

I'm rooting a friends at&t skyrocket tomorrow that is on official ics update from at&t and was wondering if that brick bug was still present.I know i might be a little late with this. I was told by a friend that it was only present on the ics leaks for this phone and just wanted to make sure now that this has official ics that i won't have any problems worrying about a brick on my hands by wiping data factory reset in cwm. Go easy on me please I was on the OG evo when all of this brick stuff happened so I never payed much attention to it

Regardless, wiping data/factory reset using cwm won't effect anything. I'm pretty sure that problem was the result of wiping in the phones settings menu (if I remember right).

Honestly, i'm not sure. I never really worried about it. Always use CWM for wiping and never had a problem with anything.
I think it happens when you try to format the internal SD card. Its an emmc bug (I think) but I don't have the bug and my i777 doesn't have it. I thought it was on the specific kernel for the i777 and the international variants.

Once you get it rooted with CWM, i'd suggest updating CWM to this version - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777970
If you're looking for the JellyBean version of AOKP, i'd really suggest this - http://rootzwiki.com/topic/34092-aokp-unofficial-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-i727-nov-04-milestone-1/
As far as flashing it, I:
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-mounts & storage [format /system]
-advanced [wipe dalvick cache]
-flash rom
-flash gapps
-reboot
*you can do these x2 or x3 each if you wish just to be sure everything is clear*
Hopefully some of this will help if you already don't know any of it. Any other questions, shoot me a pm if you need or i'm sure someone here can help.
