SDXC compatibility? - Samsung Galaxy Tab Plus

I've heard many android devices are compatible with sdxc cards of any size even though it's not in the specs. Can anyone test and confirm that the gt+ is sdxc compatible?
If yes, how should I format it?
UPDATE: I have confirmation that both the first gt and the newer generation gts support sdxc cards, though no one could tell me if the 7+ supports them. I ordered One today and will update this thread accordingly.

Micro SD Card Performance

Hi there!
It seems in the beginning only the 32 GB version of Infinity will hit the stores in Spain, to my dismay 'cause I was eagerly waiting for the 64 GB model.
So, considering I won't be able to wait no more, I could get what's the available in the market along with a 32 GB micro SD card (for example SanDisk Mobile Ultra 32GB). I wonder if there would be performance difference between 64 GB model and 32 GB with 32 GB micro SD card in terms of storage benchmarks or software performance?
The mobile ultra cards should be around 30+MB/sec which should be about what the internal runs at. Get a 64gb card(about $70) and have 96gb storage total! You could use a 128gb card also or any xdhc micro sd, you just need to reformat the xdhc cards to fat32 and they work perfectly! Xdhc cards are faster than sdhc allows, so using an xdhc should test as fast as the internal controller will allow. Sdxc 64gb and up cards should test at over 40MB/sec in a sdhc slot. Sdxc cards should be able to do 100MB/sec which is way faster than the bus/controller in your device, so they will be faster than the built-in storage!
JUST REMEMBER TO REFORMAT SDXC CARDS AS FAT32! And only use SDXC UHS-1 type cards! UHS-2 cards will not work!
If you format a sdxc uhs-1 card as fat32 and it doesn't work, you need to write a new mbr on the card. Xdhc uses exFat file system and that uses ntfs mbr, you need fat32 mbr. Either repartition the card, or use a 3rd party format tool like fat32format which would take care of both issues at once. Shouldn't be an issue on the majority of newer devices.
A lot of devices won't care that the mbr is in the wrong location(exFat and ntfs use a different mbr location compared to fat32) as long as it is formatted fat32.
Good luck, and I hope you stuff a 128gb in there so you have 160GB total! SWEETNESS!
PM me if you need any help!

I would recommend to buy a SanDisk microsd xc 64gb, and and format it to NTFS. I'm using this card in my transformer prime and it's great because in NTFS file system I'm allowed to copy files larger than 4gb (movies). If you format it to fat32 4gb will be the limit. The SanDisk card is almost as fast as internal storage. You won't notice any difference.

I assume Infinity will support sdxc format since Prime does.
None of these support "xdhc" yet, but it will work. Do not use ntfs. Linux support is still not 100% for ntfs(drivers are better than the past, but still not recommended). You can use ntfs if you need files bigger than 4gb. Fat32 is the best choice for reliability.
Again, xdhc uhs-1 will work in sdhc slot(with reformat to fat32), xdhc uhs-2 needs true xdhc slot(new pinout from what I have seen).

I would NEVER format ANYTHING to NTFS. There is simply no reason to.

Really? I have hundreds of movies on my home server over 4 GB. I'm not going to spend hours to convert those to work on the FAT32 system.

Micro SD Card List

Guys,
I am reading through a few of the threads, and some detailing specifically with the SD cards, and the information is sporadic and spread out.
Can we get a thread that is updated with a list of cards known for working?
Name of card, size, etc.?
I am searching for a card to get with my TF700 when I order it from Amazon, but I can't seem to nail down which cards actually work after the firmware update. I am positive I am not the only one.
_______________________________________________________________________
WORKING
SanDisk 32 GB class 4
WinTeck 32 GB class 10
Sandisk MicroSDHC Ultra 64gb class 6 works after firmware update. Both in docking and tablet.
SanDisk 32GB class 4 HC (graphite color)
Sandisk Extreme 32GB SDHC class 10 in the slot formatted exFAT.
ADATA 32GB class 10 microSDHC
The following cards work with .22 firmware
1 GB no name, made in china
2 GB san disk
4 GB san disk class 2
NOT WORKING
SanDisk Ultra 16GB class 10 HC (red/gray)
This is the card i have, a 64gb.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o03_s00_i00
My issue is, even after the update, when copying or moving items to it, my device freezes. I have this card in the tablet. Prior to the update, i had it in the dock. Reason being, movies wouldnt play from it when it was in the tablet. Since the update, the movies now play great. But copying/moving is now an issue. I havent see anyone else report this yet. Btw, the card is formatted at NTFS.

I ordered this one. http://www.amazon.com/ADATA-Micro-C...qid=1343572803&sr=8-1&keywords=adata+micro+sd
I'll let you know when it arrives.
Cool.
If we get enough responses, I will start listing them on the first post.
Let me know how that one works.
Ok, so I started keeping a list in the first post (we only have one so far).
So if anyone has ones they tried and worked, or ones that did not, lets post them and I will get them on the top page tonight.
Hopefully this will help everyone with their purchase, and even give Asus (Gary) something to go from.
Any 64gb card guys out there?
I am currently using a SanDisk 32 GB class 4 but also have a WinTeck 32 GB class 10. They both work great, play stored music and 1080p videos without stuttering. :good:
Sandisk MicroSDHC Ultra 64gb class 6 works after firmware update. Both in docking and tablet.
You may want to include lists for both working and NOT working cards. I have one of each:
Working: SanDisk 32GB class 4 HC (graphite color)
Not working: SanDisk Ultra 16GB class 10 HC (red/gray)
The dock uses USB (2.0) host to manage SD cards, so shouldn't give many problems. I'm currently using Sandisk Extreme 32GB SDHC class 10 in the slot formatted exFAT.
I have used Sandisk 16GB class 4 microSDHC before and now I'm using ADATA 32GB class 10 microSDHC with pretty good speeds in the microSD slot (all formatted exFAT, 32KB block size).
Did not have much luck with NTFS on .21 and .22 builds, perhaps this changed with .26, but I'm happy with exFAT.
Might be useful to mention which firmware people are on too when it works and doesn't work.
Using microsd San Disk 64gb class 6 working fine with latest firmware update. Have formated to ntfs, exfat and fat32 all file systems work on but getting better speeds with exfat

Now the thread seems pretty SanDisk-oriented and it's just the most popular brand, not necessarily the best (either for the Infinity or in general).
we need others to post what they are using, especially if it is a different brand.
You can crop the lines which mention a few cards, my ADATA is hidden behind Sandisk at the moment

[Q] 64g SDHC card

Hi guys
I'm looking for a 64G SDHC for my PC3100. I've came across news that not all 64g SDHC cards are compatible with the P3100.
Which are the recommend brands to buy?
Not sure if it's still relevant, but here is some recommendations www.sakoman.com/OMAP/microsd-card-perfomance-test-results.html
I know that the P3100 and the P3113 are quite different, but the 64gb sdcard that I'm using is a standard Sandisk microSD and it works fine with my P3113.

You'll most likely need to re-format the card to Fat32.
The Sandisk is the GO-TO card for 64 GB, but the Tab 2 can't read the stock card format and from what I've read cannot handle the actual formatting of the card, so you need either another android device that will or use a program on your computer to format it to Fat32, once that is done it works fine, using one in my 3113 right now.

[Q] SDCard 64Gb Support?

I'm out of space. interested to change my 32GB Sdcard into 64GB. Have anyone try external Sdcard 64GB yet? Will it work?

it works i saw a forum member mention he was using one
I thought so too. No reason that there is a limitation that limit it to use 64GB. Ok, I'm going to purchase SDcard 64Gb and test it out. Hopefully it work.
Yes it works fine, I'm using a SanDisk Class 10 64GB Micro SDXC card and have 0 problems. Not sure why phones/tablets always have "upgradable to 32GB" as their system specs when a 64GB card works fiine
I'm glad to hear that. Waiting for my salary this friday. Going to add more space to my phone. A lot of games inside

It works. Just reformat the 64GB microSDXC into FAT32 as well, on the computer (as a physical drive) - the kernel and the firmware doesn't support exFAT. Sure, FAT32 is a pain in the a** but is the only quick way in.
P.S. BTW, if any Android devices can actually read and write to microSDHC, they have extremely good chance of unofficially supporting SDXC - the electrical pinouts are the same, even SDIO commands are the same between those two SD cards, the only difference is file system that's already preformatted. (4 - 2,048 MB SD - FAT16 / 4 - 32 GB SDHC - FAT32 / 64 - 2,048 GB SDXC - exFAT)

Micro SD card answer please.

Ive got a verizon 4g model in the mail. This isnt my first dance with android so needing to root or do work arounds is no issue but Im looking for a definite answer on what will work in my new toy for a 64gb sd card. Most posts im reading are contradictory and lots are from last year when class 10 first launched.
So the question is to run a 64gb card do I need to source a class 6 or will a class 10 work?
Thanks!
Issues that I had was with sandisk microsd uhs class10. 32gb. Most of the problems posted was with sandisk class 10 uhs.
I'm currently using a class 10 kingmax 32gb. No issues. Until now I'm avoiding sandisk. not sure if this issues is solved.planning to get class 10 64gb kingston. Better if can get class 6. If you've read the trheads, its a compromise between throughtput read/write and max read/write.
my device is p6800 and i use sandisk uhs 64gb, formatted it with fat32 on my pc, insert it and the p6800 detect it, and it works.
(till now, i only use around 10gb, though....)

I use 64gb cards formatted fat32 and both class 6 or will a class 10 work. As you indicated there is a lot of words regarding the initial release of class 10 Sandisk cards. But Sandisk replaced a few of the bad cards I got and the last ones took a Fat32 format. Good luck and i hope you have no problems. The Sandisk web site will help you with a link to get a tool to format the disk. i have posted the link before.. :good:
Cool good to know
last problem with sandisk were the initial released of class 10... i havent face any problem yet with the current production.

This is why I reasked this question. Thanks for feedback guys. Bought a 64gb sandisk from Walmart last night.
Well tablet came. Love the thing. Card doesnt work. Im still plugging away at it.I initially tried formatting to FAT32. Didnt read the card at all. Then I tried pushing it to NTSF and letting the tablet format it. This bugs the tablet out on reset and causes all sorts of programs to crash until the card is unplugged...
Idk whats going on Im trying gparted now to 0 out the card and reformat.
Fixed by formatting with gparted. Nothing windows could get the card right.

Glad that you got it sorted and thanks for sharing the procedure that you used.
Could I trouble you for the exact manufacturers model details of the card you bought? For example SanDisk specifies the compatible card for the 7.7 as being "SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card 64GB SDSDQUA-064G-A11A"
I am not able to locate such a card here in the UK and wonder if yours has a different model reference. A common SanDisk 64gb microsd card is the SDSDQU-064GU46A but I am not sure if this will work in our Tab.

Hi I got my memory card from here http://www.mymemory.co.uk/Micro-SDXC/SanDisk/SanDisk-64GB-Mobile-Ultra-Micro-SD-%28SDXC%29-Card---Class-10-UHS-1-%2B-SD-Adapter
with a code of VC5 I got 5% off too, had to download EaseUS Partition Master and format it to fat32 but is then recognised in my tab. If I then format it in my tab it converts to exfat and doesnt seem to read in the tab any more
I am just testing the card with h2testw and will be putting data on it
Just to add the SDSDQUA says optimised for android and has SanDisk Memory Zone app for easy file backup on your Android powered device the SDSDQU does not. I would expect the SDSDQUA to work out of the box

What you should do is reformatting it as exFat with your Windows system. Then write any kind of files on it (no valuable one).
Insert it in your GT 7.7, then system will tell there is something wrong (can't remember the exact message) and it will ask you if you want to format it : Say YES !
When done, it should be fine... Hopefully...
