The whole reason why I got this phone was that I was hoping the Optimus 2X UI would be ported to the G2X.
Is there any news on this so far? I really liked the O2X's UI from reviews and would like to give it a go.
Lol. I think you're mistaken. The optimus 2X UI is laggy. I think LG rushed its UI for an early release. They probably wanted to have the 1st dual core phone so much that the 2x UI was not polished 100%.
Wait for other roms, you might find CM7 attractive because of its extra features.
I came from a Motorola Cliq XT 1.5 phone, I'm pretty sure it can't be THAT bad compared to what I had to put up with on 1.5 + MotoBLUR.
I just figured this sort of thing would have been ported by now

Yeah! I came from an atrix and motoblur was really BAD, ugly, slow and laggy.
Nobody seems to be interested in porting the LG ui as of the moment cause like what i said earlier, the LG UI is a bit unpolished.
Ported by now?? The g2x was just released a week ago! Clockworkmod is still in testing! The entitlement some people express on here is just amazing. Feel free to port it yourself. Nobody is gonna want LG 's laggy UI but you.

That's a real bummer. I was looking forward on having the lockscreen by them. The dynamic weather background thing was pretty cool, + Status update widgets.
Thats the only reason why I enjoyed MotoBLUR, some of the widgets were pretty helpful, though laggy.
Maybe later on down the road hopefully.
I would be exclted to try out the new sense on this phone. Probably wouldn't use it as a daily driver, or maybe I would, but I think it would still be cool to try it out instead of me having to buy them sensation to try it out lol

DJ_Steve is the man! Got that Honeycomb 3.1 running on my streak thanks to him and Hellzya! This really makes the device much sexier. The density issue is small for me since I don't have a problem reading small print, but it doesn't work for my dad at all.. luckily most web browsers support a zoom feature as that is the primary reason we have the tab. I have no questions... I'm a noob yes... but only to these boards. Not to rooting or anything like that. I love android... hell even jailbroke a few ipods. I'm just not a programmer or anything like that. If I were I wouldn't hesitate to offer help for all this beautiful android hacking.

I have CM7 on my Optimus v. I LOVE THIS THING. It's made everything about this phone, especially the battery life, better. Rooting is fun. lol. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKK OOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUTTTTTTT!!!
HoneyComb is awesome!!!!
Yeah, honeycomb is awesome.Only problem is that Google decided to become [email protected]*ckers on the matter and don't release the damn source code so that it could be ported to phones.Yes,Ice Cream Sandwich will have Honeycomb's features and is near to be released, but is it the spirit of XDA to wait for official stuff?Nah,I don't think so.
Come on Google,Android is supposed to be open.I don't want to buy a tablet. Not yet at least,I don't like the Tegra 2(The Exynos on my Galaxy S II makes Tegra 2 devices look like cheap toys, that's why ).And when the Tegra 3 will be out,Ice Cream Sandwich will be out too.

Why wait? Have some HC goodness with a GB-CM7 HC themed ROM.
I love the way youtube looks on HC. I just wish more apps worked on it. I many of my favorite apps crash on me in HC, but they aren't things I can't live without. Besides, whatever doesn't run there typically does on the phone so I still get my apps one way or another. One day we will have android installed in our brains and I will have to root myself.
Who whants to pay for developing sense 3.0 on Optimus 3d
yes i am willing to pay
Have to admit i do like sense myself and wouldnt mind it ported, The problem ive seen with sense 3 though is their are some graphic glitches that can be annoying not that this is a reason not to port.
I do not see many developers joining us unfortunately..perhaps the only reason that I will have to sell my mobile,I know there is no interest and I can not explain....
I am learning to dev when i do learn it i will port it for free so far i understand the basic structure of roms now i'll learn how to port hahaha it will be awhile though....
Reward offered
$150 donation goes to the first person to port Sense 3 without the usual graphics glitches!! Happy porting!!

You do realize that this phone is brand new, it will be released to the US market at Aug 21th and the release in many places has been very low key specially since Samsung has gone all out for the SGS2 release.
Also about devs, CyanogenMod is under development for the O3D and going pretty fast, most things are already working (including 3D, EGL etc) once CM is out giving developers more control of the system etc it will become much more attractive and it will also have a larger user base after the US release.
What kind of development do you really want?
CWM is working on the device, ROOTing is no problem, Custom ROMs will come in droves as CM is available and with CM chances of hacks like overclocking, 1080p 3D recording etc are high ans as for sense it's not unlikely that it will be ported but it will take time.
i could wip a quick dirrty port up for you lot to try, if you really want one that bad. but i will warn you i will not be testing it myself before hand,

Yes I agree with you but in the galaxy s2 forum there is great interest and this is reflected in the many roms that have now come up something which did not think to apply to the LG...perhaps the world do not have much confidence in the brand LG..do not know what else to guess, I'd bought the galaxy s2 despite the many good words that sound the phone was not to my taste and so sold it,And certainly do not regret it at all....sorry for my bad English...

Asked them a while back about supporting the O3D and others and they said that it will become available once the phones are out.
Looks like they started with the red/blue glasses for debugging, adding O3D support should be easy once everything works in red/blue 3D.
Of course it is resource hungry, it runs in 3D, 2D is so old school.
Nobody seems to correct me, so I repeat:

A(ported) Sense 3.0 custom ROM worked beautifully on my previous handset (HTC Desire), which I am sure does not have 1gb RAM... more like 576mb.
Come on devs... get amongst it! Only 6 more days til release in the US... then we should see some action
I post very rarely, cause I am a very capable leech and can use the search button. In this case I feel like the g2x isn't getting enough love. Yes, in all likelihood we will not be getting official ICS support, but we will get CM9. Even though the 2 cores wont be completely utilized, the tegra2 will probably be faster than that qualcomm SoC. Anyone I know that has moved to the sensation has stated the g2x is a faster device. Anyways, I am using a Cherry Pick cm7 nightly from... that other site, with faux's kernel and decided to give that V6 supercharger a try. It is buttery smooth, no APN problems, no BSOD, battery life under heavy use is incredible. I have used Weapon, White's Miui, EB, Axura, and CM7.1. Take your pick, they are all amazing. We have some awesome developers and I sincerely appreciate what you've done with this widely underrated handset. I will now retreat back into my hole. Might be fun just to have a thread not so negative ya know!
I know I might be jumping the ship. I'm on MIUI with faux 4.3 UV kernel and I love this phone. Everything is fast, everything works. However as far as future proof the only reason I am thinking of switching is because of the support. The dev section for the g2x is dying. We have 2 or 3 ROMS that are actually good and get updated frequently. Have you looked at the sensation dev section? There are about 8 active threads. The mytouch 4G(my old phone) is much older than this phone and still has a more active dev section. Its disappointing.

I agree. Seems as though imo lg and nvidia are the reason. I may be wrong but from what I understand the devs just have a hard time with the drivers they are provided.

I get it, its not as exciting. I had the g1 while it development was peaked. We still got a device that is gonna be future proof long enough to get to the kal-el powered phones. Which is when I will probably think it will be worth upgrading. Remember the software has not yet caught up to this hyper powered hardware. Most of the development so far has gone to getting the operating system to a point where they can start optimizing it. Shadow Gun doesn't even start to flex the power of this chipset. Well, that is my ignorant impression of the android situation.

You people kill me. How many roms do you intend on running on your phone? You can only run one unless you have dual boot. You talk about the devs abandoning g2x or not enough development. Well what do you want to see that hasent been done? There are nightlies out everyday. Somebody must be developing something. Here's what you do, pick a rom, any rom and stick with it.

That's not a fair comparison. HTC has the best track record of updates by a LARGE margin. You're comparing the Eris... Which has very bad hardware. But look HTC's record, they updated the two year old Incredible to GB... Almost every 1ghz or higher HTC has GB. Maybe even all of them if I'm not mistaken. So as for updates, I'd go with HTC. I just dislike HTC's hardware, their phones always deal with stupid defects like different screens, eMMC issues, dust under the screen, and just abnormal build quality issues.

What makes you say that? They backpedaled a bit on the no ICS statement but only so far as to say they were still testing phones for compatibility, which basically means nothing.

Well we also have an (un)official 2.3.4 from a G2x variant working on our phones. Once we start having several different models being updated, then we'll all start having bits and pieces to play with.
This is why HTC phones typically have lots of development because they release TONS of phones and they can pull bits and pieces together to better other devices. Once LG starts pumping out more "similar" phones, we'll start to get more and more missing pieces to get it working.
If not the devs will improvise such as they did with the A2DP driver on AOSP roms.
At this point the G2x on CM7 is pretty much near perfect. Battery life seems great, everything works as it should, GPS is almost instant. I have no complaints. We also have several roms currently. Remember that not all the G2x roms are just posted here at XDA
The G2x is a sexy phone. It is still a beast and is faster then most newer phones out there today. It may even play games faster then the Galaxy Nexus... who knows. But you have to know we'll get ICS. Either from the CM team or LG or both. I'd really like to see this phone with ICS and how well it performs against the Galaxy Nexus.
The O2x/G2x/O3D are LG's flagship models. Moving forward, LG just can not NOT upgrade at least some of their phones to ICS because that would be suicide. The G2x is a little more then 6months old. I'd say that we WILL get it but might be mid-2012 because you KNOW they'll release a stock ICS phone or two before upgrading existing handsets but I would expect this from most carriers.
Also the next Android release is typically buggy the first few builds while Google fixes it. The Nexus One and Nexus S both had new versions of Android but it wasn't released to other devices until the second or third revision. The Nexus S came out this time last year and the Nexus One wasn't officially updated until late January or February. Then other phones started to follow suite once a stable version was released.
So unless Google is doing something radically different then before, the Galaxy Nexus will hold ICS to itself for several months before any other device will see it (officially). So unless you are moving to the Galaxy Nexus, no other available phone has any benefit over the G2x at this point.

Very well said.
You know I've never understood why "we only have 3 or so really good roms" is a bad thing. Really, what more do we need? We have CM7 for the AOSP crowd, MIUI for the iPhone lookalikers, and Weapon for stock lovers. Throw in Ultimate for 2.2 and Eaglesblood for minimalism and I really don't see what we're missing out on.
More != better.

Agreed, how often do most people change ROMs anyway? (I'm not talking about nightlies or new versions, but about swapping between say CM7 and MIUI.) I'd rather have a handful of well-developed projects than a dozen or so ones that meander along without ever really completing.
Thanks as well to the devs - loving the work!

Most is stable with CM9/ICS/AOKP, we still need drivers though so that we can get a handle on full hardware acceleration and probably just little things that would help out.
The G2x most likely won't get an ICS update, but the O2x(overseas brother) is slated for Q3 this year. We'll pick apart the update for them and adjust it to work for us.
Since for some reason a good deal of our phones are different, you'll have to find the ROM that works for you. I have a good time with ROMs from the Eaglesblood team, but I've tried a few like Weapon and my phone just doesn't agree. Could be the kernel, undervolting, Over clocking or... well, who knows. Like I said, you have to experiment. Most phones can OC to about 1.5(a lot of kernels are 1.4 these days, I think) I'm not too sure on the thresholds of UV.
Pros? It's a beast. It can handle tasks quickly. Dual Core really helped android out. It's 4G so if you're with a service that provides it and in an area with it... you'll be zoomin'! We've got a selection of ROMs too. 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 4.0... You'll have to search a bit, but I'm sure you'd find something that fits you. The IPS screen is really nice too. You can get a pretty wide viewing angle and the colors are great.
Cons? 4G is kind of a battery killer, if you use something like Juice Defender, or just switch your data off whenever you really don't need it, you should be fine. Some ROMs have the option built in. I can usually get through the day just fine if I'm doing some web browsing, or texting, or a few YouTube vids. With ICS its a little bit harder. The phone's working a bit more to provide, lol. Our RAM is only 512mb so... While it works just fine, 1 gig would have been a bit better. Programs wouldn't have to get killed as much and I think it would ease up on the slowdown.
I hope this helps and that my information is on-point. It's a good phone and with the right after-market "love", it's a fantastic device, in my opinion.
How much are you getting your G2x for?
Yeah that's a LG problem..we need openmax drivers for optimus t phones but doubt will get em... its an Armv6 device
