Does anybody else notice that the screen colors on the MT4G are a little too high, its like the colors are too bright. I know that I can turn the brightness down, but right now I just have it set to automatic and I like that and I don't want to have to change that.
Does anyone know how to change the contrast on the MT4G? I just want to saturate the colors a little more. Anyone?

You can't do this on any android phone, rooted or not. Could you take a picture or maybe tell tmobile your problem, it might be an actual lcd problem.
Yeah I thought that I was the only one. Especially on this site when you view it from your mobile browser, the brown XDA heading is too bright and faded
I noticed it when I got my wife a MT4g. On her phone the colors are slightly more saturated and the blacks are slightly darker also. It is kinda bothering me now.
wanna see something crazy look at your phne for a minute and then look your computer the screen looks blue lol iyts true my mytouch colors are bright or must be my eyes

Maybe its related to the screen being used in the phone.

My wife is experienceing this as well. She went to look for the night time bedside clock app and found when the app turned the brightness down to 6 the entire screen went black, but at a brightness level of 7 the screen was dim, but still brighter than I would expect.
She commented on her Vibrant when the brightness was turned down it would go all the way down and have a black background, not a washed out dim gray background.
Hopefully there will be a fix coming.
I posted elsewhere that the screen, while obviously not as good as the Vibrant's, seemed to be just as good as that of the Nexus, Incredible, Eris, etc.
Well, I stand corrected. After reading your post, I downloaded 'Night Watch', and compared the look to that of my wife's Nexus. The Nexus does indeed appear to have a black background at 39% brightness, with vibrant green (color I chose) numbers. The MT4G appears more grey-ish, with less vibrant green numbers. Even when I reduced the brightness by another 5%, the MT4G was still grey-ish.
Now, I'm not sure if this is the screen hardware itself, or something in the contrast settings of the phone. It did bum me out a little, as I've been a pretty staunch supporter of this phone since I got it.
The dilemma is,
Do I decide to go back to a Vibrant for a nicer screen, but much fewer options? (not much chance of that)
Look to find another Nexus; and tak ea step back in terms of processor speed, ram, features, et.c (with the exception of the color trackball, which Nexus lords over ever other phone)
Wait until something better comes out; as there are no other android phones comparable to this one in terms of features, available by T-mo right now? (Wait? Really? Arggh!)
All in all, I'm very happy with this device. And maybe I'm just knee-jerking. But, in truth, it does bother me somewhat. Thoughts?

I know exactly what you mean, the blacks look grey and the reds look pink.
I think there is something wrong with the contrast balance in the software somehow, because it does seem like a nice screen, but those are just my thoughts.
I sincerely hope that this is the case. If so, perhaps some tweaking can be done in the settings, mch like, but nothng at all like, the registry settings change in WinMo phone, wherein the colors/contrast could be adjusted by assigning different numbers.
I realize that there is a huge difference between android and WinMo registry tweaks. But it's hard to believe they would simply included an inferior screen to go along with so many other hardware improvements.
its not an amoled display guys, it's never going to be completely black or have as high a contrast ratio as the nexus or vibrant.
Yeah, I know what kind of screen it is, and I know how others look in comparison, my point is though, my Mytouch3G had better colors. It just seems like something could be done via software.

It has only been out a couple of weeks, I would give it some time and everyone complain a little to T-Mobile and hopefully they can add it to a future OTA update.
I only had the MT4G for a night before returning it for a replacement (which is still in the mail), but I agree: The screen looked very washed out. It was so bad that I am now considering keeping my Vibrant.
I am not asking for SuperAMOLED-like quality, but something average would be nice... not low quality crap.
I'm starting to think there's production issues. The very first 2 units I saw had the washed out look. I saw one today that seemed fine. I went thru the menus and changed the backgrounds. Everything seemed much better on this one.
I wish I could compare them side by side, but these were in 2 different stores.
Thoughts?

I had been weary about the screen ever since I got mine last Wednesday. From reading reviews talking about how great the screen looked, and then mine was kinda... blah. First words in my mind when I turned it on was how washed out some of the colors looked.
I took mine back to T-Mobile tonight and swapped it out for a new and I have to say that there's a huge difference. Some of the colors are still a little off, but it looks like it's the app's icon and not the screen itself. Compare the newest YouTube app's red to the TasKiller's red, for instance.
Now to wait on the OTA so I can re-root this thing and clean it off.
I wish I had something to compare mine to. I went to the store, thinking I would compare mine to one of theirs. But it was a bust; as the screen looked exactly the same. So either mine is as good as the replacement you got, but just pales in comparison to the Nexus. Or it's washed out, the one in the store is washed out, and I'm still at square one. Unfortunately, there's no way for me to tell.
I took my MT4G back after running the Asphalt demo next to an Epic and Droid X. The colors were totally faded out and missing details seen on the other devices. The Epic is over-saturated and the X seems to split the difference, not to mention the size is awesome.
Hmm...
Well, being with T-mo, neither of those other two is an option for me. But, I'm thinking about it, and I'm starting to think our phones only seem to pale in comparison.
What I mean is, side by side, yes, they seem to be less-than-stellar. But when used on their own, they seem to be pretty alright... though obviously not as good as what our minds recall the others being.
If you look at a 60hz 1080p tv side by side with a 120hz edge-lit LED tv, yes, the original would look tame. But that's not to say that it doesn't look great on it's own.
Is there any way to change the color calibration on the display? I want to raise the blue levels because I'm a bigger fan of a cool color tone and the whites on the g2x are more than an off white. (compared to my mt4g with good lcd where whites are bright white)
I have heard about the color calibration hack for the nexus one but I don't know if it'll work on the leaded gingerbread ROM from paul o'brien
If you don't know what I'm talking about go to the color settings on your computer monitor or tv and change from "cool" to "normal". The g2x is more like the normal setting while i like the cool setting better.
I posted a link already. There is a calibration tool in the Nexus One forums that you can use. I don't think the G2x needs it though. Mine looks natural.

I'm fine with all the colors except for white, I'm a bigger fan of a more bluish white like on the iphone.
I'll give the nexus one thing a try but i think a bunch of people who tried it on the g2x it force closed. Not sure about the leaked gb rom though so I'll try it and report back
the flash aborted because it says amend scripting is no longer supported since android 1.5?
I also tried installing both apk's and they both force close when I try to do anything
pretty sure you have to be on cm7 for it to work
Is it just my specific device or are the whites on this phone not really true white but more like off-white? If u compare it to the mytouch 4g with good lcd there's a big difference. Although this device does have truer blacks.

Every LCD is different. Even if the phones are the same model. Mine has a bit of a red tint when showing white but its only noticeable if I look at it next to my Vibrant.

I know different phones have different color tones but I just wanted to know if it was just my device where whites weren't true white because some people have been talking about a yellow or orange tint. I'm expecting a replacement phone to arrive next week so I guess I'll do a comparison when it arrives.
Looks fine to me, but really I'm all about resolution. Colors can vary and sounds can be medium quality and I probably won't notice a difference.

Meaning if you took a number of G2x and put them side by side none of them would be completely identical. So its not just you that has a slightly off screen.

Well thats why I want to change the color settings because the high levels of red in the whites are really bothering me.
Unfortunately I've had 4 different ns4g's so far. Number 1 looked great. Number two had a washed out/yellowish tint to the display. Number 3 was great but now number four has the same washed out/yellowish hue. I can't find much info and I certainly don't want to exchange for a fifth phone. Having two of the same "normal" looking displays and two "washed out" displays I feel that there may be different panels being used during the manufacturing process. There's zero evidence of anything being defective. The EVO had several different displays which caused a fluctuation in the way colors and such were presented. Any help would be great as I don't mind having a device that looks a little different from the last as long as this ones not damaged.

What you're seeing is an anomaly of AMOLED screens. No two AMOLED screens are exactly the same, so things like this will happen.

Remember with voodoo control you can correct the color profile.

In Europe they sell Nexus S with SLCD display instead of Super AMOLED. These are obviously very different. The Baseband version of the SLCD type starts with "I9023".
The yellow tint issue is a software feature introduced in 2.3.3: "For Nexus S, we have adjusted the color temperature settings to more accurately reflect darker colors at all brightness levels." (Search for it in Google, I'm not permitted to post links yet.)
Is there a way to adjust the colors of the Xoom's screen? I'm pretty disappointed at how photos look white washed on the Xoom as compared to other tablets. The Galaxy 10.1's screen seem over saturated but their Touch Wiz update provided them a way to choose a setting which was more natural. I was thinking if they can do it through the software then maybe there is a way to better the colors of the Xoom's display.
I have xoom too, I agree with you, display is dull. How can we increase amount of brightness?

Some of you guys got the not so wonderful screen...I'm sorry. These's an app called Color Filter Settings in the Market that might help. Also Screen Filter might be of some use, but it doesn't increase brightness.
Thanks okantomi.
I've always wondered why someone doesn't make an app that allows us to modified the colors like gamma, Brightness, Contrast, saturation, etc. It could make any device look great.. maybe allow presets and stuff.

Hi there okantomi !
May I ask who's the manufacturer for your display and if any infos about the specs for that ? Part number will help a lot.
I'm afraid not only "some" of us but actually "many" of us have this crappy washed screen from AIO which drives me nuts for how bad it is.
Since I'm not the only one with these problems and AFAIK Motorola is aware of this I really don't get it why they don't even bother to release a firmware fix or at least create an App to let us playing with colors and contrast adjustments to increase a little bit the appearance on our screens.
Thanks for any replies.

I only recently checked and found that I have the Sharp screen, luckily without any bleed. My screen is great, but I'm not sure it's as easy as Sharp vs. AUO, because a lot of people swear by the AUO screen, like our moderator. I agree that there should be a fix available, because it's the one thing that's most consistently complained about by people with low contrast screens.
Thank you so much for your reply. I'm pretty sure that SHARP screens are much better than AUO ones based on their experience and history with this kind of stuff. I'm aware about those bleeding problems about some of them however I would preffer one with some bleeding instead this one with such a poor visibility and so washed. If you tilt the screen just slightly (few degrees) everything goes washed and color saturation drops a lot. What can I say..it's a real nightmare to watch this.
I like the overall appearance and features for this tablet, this is the reason I'm still looking for any solution to improve somehow the quality of viewing.
If any chance to get the part number from your unit I will appreciate your effort a lot.
Thanks again.
PS...about others with AUO screens and no major complaints...it looks like some of them are upgraded versions already (the latest XOOMS), so maybe that's the reason for not so many complains with them

I don't know the part number. Have you tried contacting Motorola to see if they could upgrade your screen or at least give you some information /options?
You might want to try that Screen Filter app. I think it could help you, especially with your viewing angles.
