Bootloader with broken volume down button? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I broke my volume down button on my phone (HTC Pro7/Gold C aka. Arrive). I want to flash the ROM, but I can't enter the bootloader.
Any way I can do that?
Thanks

Install quickboot from the market and use it to go to recovery, bootloader, etc...
You must be rooted though.

Cant get into recovery

So I got the s-off with the
Guide to permaroot, s=off AND s=on!!!!! Im using rom manger but I cant go in to recovery....everytime I go to the bootloader and go to recovery it just reboots the phone. What should I do?????

well since u already know that by going into recovery, the long way, not rom manager shortcut way (witch we all know has it's issues), u have to hold down the power and vol down buttons at the same time, after powering off the phone, you should wait a little bit until it refreshes the status, and then try to select recovery with vol down for scrolling and power for select, once in recovery you can do your magic with the trackball,
i really hope for your sake that this is the problem, and not another that will have to make you repeat the whole rooting process all over again.
Pull the battery then hold down volume and then the power button.

Make sure you have installed clockworkmod recovery. You can double check by going into Rom Manager and using the top option to flash the current recovery (2.5.1.2)
after it has flashed succesfully you should be able to use the "reboot into recovery" option in Rom Manager without a problem.
Everytime i go to recovery from rom manger or bootloader it reboots the phone. what's wrong????
Nothing is wrong. "Recovery" is a standalone, bootable program. It is its own operating environment, and is not an Android App.
I know, im trying to get into recovery to put a new mod on my phone but its reboots everytime I push recovery.

Try installing it again through rom manager. And are you sure you are rooted fully? Try going into Terminal Emulator and type su. Tell me what happens.
Rom Manager only knows what .img files are on the SD card repository it keeps for flashing. It cannot tell you the state of flashed content.
My guess is a failed flash of ClockworkMod Recovery. Re-flash, either with Rom Manager or with fastboot.
Ok I checked if I was rooted and yes it gives me superuser. The rom manger the same as before.

(There's an echo in here.)

When you click recovery, THE PHONE REBOOTS INTO RECOVERY.
Let it sit there after the reboot and see if you end up in recovery...

So if you tried flashing the recovery again thru Rom Manager and it says it was succesfull, I am not sure why you wouldnt be able to get into recovery either by using rom manager or by holding down the volume button and hitting power button. Then choose recovery and it should put you there. Unless you dont have a recovery, then it cant work. It should at least try to boot you into stock or something.
My suggestion would be to set up adb/fastboot and trying to enter recovery that way. If it still doesnt work then you can try pushing the recovery.img via fastboot and see if that works.
Here is a guide for adb/fastboot that takes 2 minutes to set up.

Fastboot is a client/server application. The client is the phone, the server a Linux or Windows workstation with the Android SDK installed. The interconnection is a USB cable.
If you have the SDK, or you've read about it, you may have read of a tool called "adb". Fastboot is like adb. Except adb requires a running Android OS with USB debugging turned on. Fastboot doesn't. It just requires the bootloader to be running. No Android required.
For more information, try using a) Forum search, and b) Google search. They're great tools.
THANKS EVERYONE FOR THEIR HELP!!!!! It's working......

You can manually boot into recovery using the button combo. I do it all the time. The only time I've used adb on my xoom was when I rooted 3.1
Sent from my Thunderbolt using Tapatalk
you can also get Quick Boot (free in market) and reboot directly to recovery from within android. most roms and kernels have instructions for installation that include clockworkmod. some also have instruction for adb. but for the most part clockworkmod is where you will be flashing from now that your rooted.
Awesome! Thanks a bunch guys
Also I'm assuming that quick boot will boot you into clockwork recovery, correct? Or do you not even need clockwork and can boot into the xooms stock recovery and wipe and flash from there?

Use CW Recovery for flashing but stick with version 3.2.0.0...don't "upgrade" to 4.0.0.x, which doesn't recognize your external sdcard. Quick boot has several options, including recovery, which takes you right to android recovery where you will access CW Recovery.

What do you mean it's still stuck? Why won't you just flash clockwork then flash a rooted ROM. Much simpler.

Well my power button is broken so fast boot thinks its always being pressed for some reason and that makes it not work :/ its frozen and the volume keys don't work. So that's why i can't flash anything. I'm wondering if I can root my phone through adb so then I can just use ROM manager to flash a custom recovery.

I already did all of that. I turn my phone on with my volume keys and turn it off with the search button. I opened my nexus too and the power button isn't stuck :/ I'm just asking if there is any other way to root without using fasboot. Or if I'm able to install a custom recovery without fast boot

Well I think you can boot into fastboot via adb command. Then flash clockwork. Then boot into clockwork via adb command.

help with recovery please.

flashed clockworkmod recovery v5.0.2.0 (BB) running stock rom android v2.2.1 via rom manager, rebooting to recovery says E: bad boot message "recovery" what does it mean
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
That happens to most people, it doesn't mean anything. The recovery will still work fine, I've been getting that ever since I've had this phone and it's never caused me any problems. Don't worry about it.
it seems that for me the recovery options are not working as i try to choose any option and its just stuck on with the recovery logo, i press power again and it back yo menu, is there any fastboot i need to disable ? because i cant get to bootloader... menu + vol up...

Try using other button to select, instead of power button. For me, I use search button, but my recovery is a different version than yours. If you give up, flash a different recovery file.

now thinking which to install, any idea wich is must stable some from android 2.3 and up? was thinking on

why dont u just use the touch recovery of twrp. it works fine
Well right now you're on the old baseband, so make sure to flash a baseband fix if you install anything from 2.3 or up, you can download the fix here: http://www.mediafire.com/?tjyibxdbqyyrmwz make sure to install the fix every time you install a new rom.
As for the most stable rom, you'll have to try them and see which one you like. That being said, I've heard nothing but good things about oxygen rom.

Upgrade baseband! But read carefully all the steps first.
Sent from my Ainovo Flame (Nexus 7) using Tapatalk 2
in oxygen rom thread he advices to upgrade new baseband and a recovery with new BB...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
You don't have to upgrade the baseband, he just recommends it because the new baseband gives better reception, if you use the baseband fix you can use any rom you like. If you do want to upgrade the baseband though, just use lg's official gingerbread updater, it's the safest way.

[Q] Flashed a recovery?

Hey guys, I have a problem
I am somewhat experienced in hacking my phone, I was a previous Droid 1, and Droid Bionic owner. I just rooted my S3 today, I downloaded ROM Manager, flashed the CWM Recovery, rebooted and I get this message that says "Secure Fail: Kernel" at the top, and "System software not authorized by VZW has been found on your phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest store for help." I'm not really sure what to do at this point, any help would be appreciated.

What 4g screen? What root method did you use?
You need to odin back to stock, then root your phone again. The newer methods don't always successfully unlock your Bootloader, so you may have to do it manually.
Download ez unlock version 1.2 from a website, then open it and verify it says unlocked. If it says unknown or locked, then hit the unlock button.
Then flash your recovery just like you did before and everything will work properly.

Yes, but if you're on 4.0.4 you might want to take the ota then root.
Or you can use the rootdebug method, it's an old rooting method but will work if you're on ics.

Either way is fine, but I'd most likely take an ota update then use beans casual method.
Rom choice is all personal preference, read all the threads and look for the features you'd want. Most of the roms are very good.
