[Q] Need some adivce before rooting my DS :D - HTC Desire S

Hello,everyone
My DS(2.3.5, hboot 2.00.0002 ,locked, s-on)warranty expired recently,so I want to root my phone.Which method should I use for rooting my phone , htcdev or downgrade my hboot then root it?
Btw,I want to keep all my data in my phone , will root delete all data inside my phone? What App should I use for backup .
I'm Asian and do i need to change me locate to US or Europe ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1689631
And do NOT unlock via HTCdev! Use the Revolutionary method. You should also read the Index thread for tutorials on how to do so.
EDIT: I'm not sure about losing all your info when rooting, as I did mine a while ago, so I don't remember, sorry

+1 to the above.
Revolutionary Method is recommended to S-OFF.
Also, It is recommended that after S-OFF, you Change your Hboot to an ENG Hboot (refer INDEX).
To backup all your Apps - Titanium Backup (Pro).
To backup SMS - GO SMS Pro / SMS backup & Restore.
Contacts / Calendar can be backup via your Google Account.
{Save your contacts as Google Contacts & all your calendar entries in Google Calendar}.
Use 4EXT Recovery / CWM Recovery to backup your entire ROM (Nandroid Backup).

So...this method will delete all my data.Btw will I lose my root after I update my phone to 4.0 through ota?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk

If you're S-OFF & Rooted, never install the OTA update from your phone.
Why would you want to wait for the ICS OTA ?
We already have lots of ICS ROM's , based on the leaked RUU / Kernel. . .
Also, i believe , once we have the 4.0 (ICS) kernel sources, all our issues / bugs should
be ironed out. . . by our beloved Dev's.

If I'm not mistaken, you'll get stuck in a bootloop if you do any ota updates. So DON'T ever do any ota updates when you're rooted/S-off.
EDIT: Tapur007 beat me to it He's right though.

I see,then I will.root after.the.ota ,because I.want to try it

You may have issues gaining True S-OFF after OTA.
As of now ,revolutionary only supports 0.98.XXXX Hboots.
I'd suggest you to Root & S-OFF your phone using revolutionary & then flash an ENG Hboot.
You can then try out the custom ROM's available in the Dev Section...

What should I do if I want to go back to HTC orginal Rom?
Should I use something called RUU?

Great guide! Dilemma is that TiBackup doesn't work without root... so you're kinda stuck in a situation where you can't back up until you've rooted, but at risk of losing data when you're doing it...

Yes, after flashing ENG bootloader to replace the Revolutionary one (which doesn't allow you to flash RUUs)

Partially yes... because most OTAs have the new v2.00.xxxx bootloader that revolutionary doesn't support (yet).
To counter that, you CAN downgrade the OTA back to original version using some clever RUU / adb tools, but its not the noobproof way forward.
My advice would be if you want to try a Sense 3.0 ROM, then just S-OFF / root and use one from the forum. (Chances are they'll be better updated with more features and with have none of the carrier branded bloatware).
Plus, you'll get access to the Sense 3.5 ROMs (Endymion! is the most flashed one), Sense 3.6 ROMs (before HTC and carriers even release it on OTAs), Sense 4.0 ROMs (which HTC will probably never release) and AOSP / CM / AOKP ROMs (the way Android should have been released without HTC butchering it with Sense)

Not yet another Sense bashing. You want to keep the thread informative - fine, I see you have lots of energy to waste on those who don't want to read guides (it'll fade pretty soon, when you'll realize that lazy "I-can't-read-a-thread-on-front-page-with-the-same-title-so-I'll-post-another-one" types don't end, and the time you spend on long answers that in the best case repeat detailed already-posted guides is pretty much wasted). But save your Sense bashing to Sense-bashing threads, where other people would counter that. If HTC and Samsung didn't create the skins to hide the ugliness and lack of usability of stock-like Android - many people wouldn't be touching Android, most likely myself included.

No app for non-root phone to backup app+data ?! D:

I looked many post and found that the disadvantage of using Htcdev is my warranty will gone. However,my DS warranty expired now and htcdev is easier than downgrade h-boot.
What should I do now?

I'd still suggest you to downgrade & S-OFF & then flash an ENG Hboot.
Cuz, if you unlock via HTC Dev , each time you flash a custom ROM , you need to flash the kernel (boot.img) separately !

[Q] Questions after 3 days of reading Forums

Hi,
First post (yay!) so I have a few questions:
1. Where is the 'thanks' button? There are loads of you I wanted to thank but it has not shown up on my forums where the help section said it would be. Has shown up now - guess I had to make a post before I could thanks people
2. I have the emmc chip that is prone to failure but after reading the forums it seems there may be a way to recover from it - is that right, and the chip is no longer a big problem? (Absolutely cannot afford to brick this phone as it's a present from a wife already angry that I rooted it)
3. Should I try to upgrade my HBOOT to 2.00.2002 and Radio (to what? the PCIMG88.zip from the Chinese website?) and install a new ROM, or try and revert everything back to s-on, unrooted stock rom and wait for the official update that is rolling out now in the UK? I'd prefer the option with the least chance of stress and bricking the phone.
4. After flashing a new ROM (if I do) I understand I should avoid updating/installing apps at the same time so my emmc chip isn't fried - can I reinstall 1 by 1 from Titanium backup, and won't Google start trying to download and install everything else at once? How do I avoid that?
I'm in the UK on T-Mobile PAYG with (I think) an unbranded Desire S

4.if u restore all apps with titanium backup at once its ok, i think..
but when u setup your phone dont add google account to sync your app..
restore your apps and then add it..
take a look to ben_pyett signature for some useful links..
Theses are just my opinions
Thanks button to bottom right of each post next to edit button,
Don't bother upgrading you're hboot to 2.xx.xxxx (not yet any benefit)
Don't bother going back to s-on.
Don't pull battery.
I'd try to install the normal ENG bootloader over your revolutionary one if you can.
I'd also suggest installing the 4 EXT recovery instead of Cwm.
Don't do anything to you're device that you don't fully understand.
You've done the most difficult part making your device s-off now install some quality custom roms and enjoy it.
Always take full nandroid device backups prior to performing any steps on your device, so that you have a safe point to roll back to in case of problems.
When installing a new custom ROM don't enter your google account details until the last stage of the setup after the device had stopped all configuration, then go into the market app and check to see of it's installing any apps, if it is then cancel downloads, only some versions of market attempt the parallel download of several apps which has been linked to killing eMMC. Later one download one application at a time which seems ok..add suggested advice I also use titanium backup app to restore my apps after the new installation of a ROM rather than relying on market installs.
There is now more information on the eMMC issue, what was previously thought of a dead device can now be recovered but each instance is unique.
Enjoy

Guys,
Thanks for the replies - when I asked about the Thanks button it wasn't there, it only appeared after I posted so that is sorted now.
Ben, I do have 4EXT already installed and a backup, this isn't my first android phone but I would still class myself as a noob - I think I know what I'm doing generally but probably don't.
I think I might try for the ENG Hboot if I can find that post but I thought I would need the 2.00.2002 Hboot for sense 3.0 roms.
What is the advantage of the ENG Hboot over the revolutionary one?
Also, I'm wondering if I will receive an OTA option to update since I have s-off and rooted - I'm pretty sure I should not accept as it looks like some people have been experiencing problems trying to install the OTA over their non-stock phones/settings.
Can anyone confirm that:
1) my phone would see the update if it rolls out and
2) I should not install it unless I go back to stock rom and s-on?
Installing a new ROM will alert my wife to the fact I have rooted it so I'm in no hurry until I decide I can't live without some spectacular new features
Yep, DO NOT INSTALL THE OTA
^when you are rooted and s-off.
It will lead to problems.
I'd really suggest you try out Hyperion ROM/Saga 3D
They are like the stock ROMs with sense 3.0 (new OTA based)
They are optimised and better than the stock ota anyway

You shouldn't even consider OTA updates unless you're S-ON and STOCK....
certainly don't try it on a rooted device, just asking for trouble...I always simply disable the check for updates and Tell HTC features..
There are benefits to having ENG HBOOT (although I'm not 100% of all of them) I believe that you're able to downgrade easier, should you require the HBOOT number also doesn't stand out like a sore thumb......6.xx.xxxx should you want to return device!
All the new Sense 3.0 and Sense 3.5 ROMS work on old HBOOT, so just no point in upgrading, I did the upgrade before I released this and it's not worth going back.
EDIT: You also need to have a word with the misses! It's now your phone so you should be able to do what you want to it - whatever makes you happy!!

I believe this is because the cooks have made it this way.....My understanding is that the "official" S-On OTA upgrade installs the new version HBOOT and makes use of this new layout.
Someone correct me if this is wrong?

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?

Which stock Sensation XE rom has the least amount of bloatware?
The question pretty much sums it up. I just got a Sensation XE, Hong Kong model. It has a lot of crap software on it: youni sms, xda assistant, 通通电话,baidu, kuwo player, and all this other Chinese crap. I hate Chinese software with passion. If skynet was/is real, I believe it would be running a Chinese OS. Chinese software naturally tries to take over your computer or phone.
I want to switch to the stock rom with the least amount of junk on it. If it also has a good Chinese/English keyboard with handwriting input that is a plus.
Also, just to make sure I'm on the right track, this is what should be done before I can change roms, right?
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom

the steps are fine ..but 3rd step is not required ...and 2)better have 4EXT recovery ..its better imho and between 4 and 5 there might be one more step ..which can only be decided after you told the current rom you are having (if running gb now ..for ICS you need to flash 3.32/3.33 firmware ..then ROM)
as for the ROM ..for simple STOCK like and fully customized with bloat removed ..try ARHD, insert coin or Elegancia
Hi,
If you go through the steps you mentioned:
1) Get S-off
2) Install Clockwork Mod (Try to get a PG58IMG.zip version of it, saves having to fastboot flash it)
3) Get permanent root
4) Write super cid
5) Change Stock Rom
You could stop at step3 and manuall delete stuff off the ROM you have. OR, what I'd probably do), and as mentioned you can skip step 3 if you're installing a new ROM. Go for a WWE (World Wide English) RUU if you want to keep completely Stock, you can then run ROMcleaner to remove some redundant crap.
Look for something like: RUU_PYRAMID_ICS_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.5_Radio_11.69. 3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_246089_signed.exe
It's ICS with Sense 3.6. The 401 in the above means it's WWE and will either need SuperCID (11111111) or HTC__001, it's completely unbranded.
You can find ROMcleaner at: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1217664
Thanks for the replies. I know I can root and then uninstall system apps. I don't really like doing that because you just don't know what else has been done to the rom. This Hong Kong rom won't let me use stock SMS (I know how to select default SMS program, it doesn't work on this rom) and doesn't have stock browser (it has some chinese version of Opera), is asking me if I want to invite my contacts to join all kinds of stupid networks, gets involved with my text messages, has some Chinese antivirus that keeps complaining, and all kinds of other crap. It's the worst rom I've ever seen. The WWE appears to be what I'm looking for. It's unbranded and shouldn't have carrier or region specific stuff. Youtube and other apps that don't ask me questions I can deal with.
I want root, for all of it's obvious benefits. I usually run stock, rooted and custom kernal with GPU overclock. But I'm not so sure I like sense, but I want to try a cleaner rom before I decide on sense.
I'm guessing I don't need to do the OTA update before I start the process. I also saw there were some special procedures for the latest ICS. I'll deal with that bridge when I get there. For now I just need a clean rom that doesn't bombard me with useless Chinese crap.

There are a few WWE GB ROMs out there, the one I mentioned is pretty slick as it's ICS which seems to work better IMHO.
The following is mentioned in post 1776 and there abouts in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074559
http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=android&model=Pyramid
The OP has filefactory as the repository but it never worked for me so I gave up on it, looks like others had the same issue.
Just get a Europe one xxx.401.xxx. Avoid 1.24 if you want to go through OTA updates, I had issues with that, might have been me but .....
The ROMcleaner thing I mentioned is pretty good at removing the HTC extra stuff.
Of course, there are a few very nice custom ROMs out there. I was using Virtuous Inquisition (AOSP look and feel based on Sense but de-sensed as much as possible). I've not tried ARHD/IC and some of the others for a long time so can't comment on them.
Have fun and GL on your quest.
EDIT:
P.S. after applying the RUU you'll need to re-install CWM (again easiest was is if you have a PG58IMG.zip version of it) and then apply the root. It looks like the best root at the moment is SuperSU (reading some posts here from EddyOS).
Thanks again. I'm downloading:
RUU_PYRAMID_LE_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.32.401.105_R2_Radio_11.69.3504.00U_11.22.3504.07_M_release_253443_signed.exe
Now that I look again the 3.33 version is available, I probably should have downloaded that.
I've already got: ADB drivers, HTC Sync, HTC driver, java, pg58img(recovery.img), CMW 5.0.2.0, revolutionary-0.4pre4, su-2.3.63-efgh, and the unbrick stuff in case something goes wrong. Once I finished downloading the firmware I should be ready to go. I'll double check that all the files are good, re-read all the instructional threads, and then get started. My phone doesn't have a warranty, so I have to make sure everything is done correctly the first time.
I also found this:

HTC phones are so much more complicated compared to the other phones I've rooted and flashed. On my Huawei phone you plugged the phone in to the computer, copied two files, and you were rooted and had CWM installed.

The 3.32 contains the 1.27.0000 HBOOT which can be unlocked (just done it myself). The 3.33 contains 1.29.0000 which at the moment cannot be unlocked.
As you're already S-OFF it probably doesn't make much difference. I'm on 3.32 at the moment, I don't know what the differences are between 3.32 & 3.33, I assume minor bug fixes.

Unless you go back to HBOOT 1.18.00 or earlier revolutionary can't help to S-OFF, as you're already S-OFF you shouldn't need it.
Does the PG58IMG.zip you mention contain CWM 5.0.2.0 ?, I usually keep a copy about called PG58IMG-CWM5020.zip, then change the name when I want to install it. The reason I ask is that PG58IMG.zip is a generic name and can be used for many things. You'll need to pop the uSD card when it asks you to reboot.

No the RUU is self contained and includes the firmware/radio. You might want to install HBOOT 1.27.0011 afterwards, IRC it allows fastboot commands. I think it's in that thread.

I know HTC seemed to have created hassles. I had an early Sensation and waiting for someone to work out how to S-OFF was a real pain.

EDIT
REMEMBER to take a nandroid backup before you start, just in case ! Also remember that nandroid backups don't include HBOOT or Radio so if you need to revert you'd need to get them. Take a note of the existing baseband/radio & HBOOT.

Good point. I'll add that to the list of steps so I don't forget.
1) Setup ADB/fastboot
2) Get S-off
3) Install Clockwork Mod
4) Backup via CWM!!!!
5) Get permanent root
6) Write super cid
7) Change Stock Rom
Unfortunately the rom didn't download correctly, so looks like I won't be installing the rom tonight.

The nandroid backup is via ClockworkMod, not certain what you're backing up through ADB/fastboot. Guess you could get Radio/Recovery etc. Never tried it myself, I like a simple life
There is no point applying SuperSU until after you have installed the new Stock ROM. You can change the CID directly with fastboot, it doesn't need root for that.
Shame about the download, at least the steps look about right.
Eek, I thought you already had S-OFF ? What HBOOT are you on at the moment ? If it's 1.18.0000 or earlier revolutionary.io is perfect, if it's later it's a different process.
Note that when you install the new stock rom via RUUxxxx.exe, it'll splat the custom recovery so it'll need to be re-applied.
Umm, I booted into HBOOT to get my HBOOT version and at the top of the screen it says:
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT 1.17.008
RADIO-10.11.9007.15_M
That mean I already had S-OFF, right? Well that was easy.
Actually the phone was smuggled into China to avoid taxes. The sellers probably had to get S-OFF to put a Chinese language rom on there. Which also would explain all the extra bloatware, probably was installed by the same people.
Also, I wasn't able to pull the images through ADB. Have to wait until after rooted.
UPDATE: Installed CWM, backing up now, then root. So far so good. I'll probably have to settle for using Titanium Backup to remove the unwanted apps for now. The second try at downloading the RUU also failed.
UPDATE: Rooted, through it probably was already rooted. Also checked the CID and it was already 11111111. Thanks Chinese smugglers. You did all the work for me. Now to finish uninstalling all the crap you put on my phone.
So actually, the only work I did was install the SU and backup my system.
Nice to see it going smoothly for you, and remember if you want to install ics, you need to flash a ics firmware 3.32 or 3.33. Or you'll be in a boot loop.

LOL
As you say that was easy.
There are other sites that you can download 3.32.401 from as it's fairly common, have a look.
As you have a nandroid backup that you can recover back to if needed you can also try ROMcleaner.
I'm going to try a Jelly Bean ROM tomorrow so my nandroid backup will be vital )
A really nice fairly lightweight ROM is Virtuous Inquisition. As I said it's AOSP look and feel but has Sense backend, it's been de-sensed as much as possible.
Anyway Have Fun.

The RUU will contain everything you need and update firmware, Radio, Recovery, HBOOT, ..... and of course the ROM.
Remember it'll flatten the ROM so all saved messages, WiFi details etc. will be lost.
If for some reason you need to revert back to your existing ROM you'll need to downgrade the firmware to 1.17.0008, including the radio. I doubt you'll bother though when you're on 3.32.

If it's that urgent you should spend time familiarize yourself with the search button. There is Asskicker's guide how to flash roms with s-on in the general forum. Plus I gave you a link to RUU's in the other thread you posted in.

evita pvt ship. i bought from amazon used, how can i update from 4.0.4 to a higher firmware and if i try use software update it searches for a bit then i get error what can i do?
Do you want to stay stock or install custom ROMs? The two processes will be very different so I need to know which way you want to go before advising you.

Also, do you have adb/fastboot installed on your PC? If not you're going to need that, Google search "xda minimal adb and fastboot" and the first result should be a thread that details how to install it easily.

If you want to update to the latest "official" firmware, you can download the RUU at the following webpage, and follow the directions where it says "Manual system update instructions":
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-x-att/news/
This will update you to Jellybean 4.1.1, which is the latest that has been released for the AT&T version.
Be aware this will wipe any date on the phone, so backup anything you want to keep.
EDIT: As timmaaa advised below, CID needs to be verified before running the above RUU. If SuperCID is present with s-on, running the RUU will brick the device.
Hang on, we need to check his SuperCID status before he runs a jb RUU, the phone is used. We don't want a brick on our hands.

Very true. I assumed that since the phone is still bootloader LOCKED, that its bone stock (I also missed the word "used" when I read the OP). But its possible the previous owner changed the CID, but either botched the BL unlocking or didn't get that far.
I've edited my previous post accordingly, to make sure the OP doesn't damage his phone.
Yeah, previous owner could have also spoofed the bootloader text to say locked instead of relocked.
OP, get adb/organised as per my first reply and then we can check out your situation before proceeding.

Huh? That makes absolutely no sense. If you want help please do the following:
1- Don't hijack this thread, we're already helping someone else here. Please repost your question in my q&a thread.
2- Tell me exactly what you want to achieve.
3- Tell me your bootloader details.
4- Tell me any other relevant information.
5- Do all this in clear and legible English, and be specific.
PS. There are no such things as a 'sid lock' or 'sloff', as I've said above please post in clear English using terms that actually exist.

ok im going to try super cid do i need to root my phone 1st and i want stock unless custom is more better and stable.
Stock ROM is stable but so are custom ROMs, plus you get better features with custom ROMs. Before you do anything though you need to decide whether you want to use a stock ROM or a custom ROM. The two processes will vary greatly. Have you installed adb/fastboot like I suggested earlier?

i was using a one click rooting software i deleted it i now have
onexrootattnew.zip but that doesnt want to root it either really and truly i jus wanted to update my software cuz my phone wifi range is seriously low to the point that i have to be right new to a router or 5ft away to catch signal and my bluetooth range basically is 1ft so i wanted to update to fix my problem
There's only one way you can get root. The first thing you need to do is stop getting information from other sites, they don't properly distinguish between firmware versions, and even phone models. Everything you need is here on XDA, it's the only comprehensive Android modification site available.
Click the Everything Evita link in my signature and bookmark that thread, everything you need is compiled in that thread. In that thread navigate to the root section, find the 2.20 root method. Follow the instructions in that thread and you'll have SuperCID. Then you can go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader. Once you have an unlocked bootloader you can install Superuser to root your current ROM, or you can install a custom ROM. If you need help installing a recovery or ROM just click the How-To Guide For Beginners link in my signature.

thanks man i will try it out will get back to u by 2morrow.
my bootloader is unlocked so i can get any custom rom?
Technically, yes. But your phone still needs some updating before you can stay on a custom ROM. Your steps will be as follows:
1. Install TWRP recovery.
2. Install root via SuperSU.
3. Get s-off via Facepalm.
4. Run the 3.18 RUU (this returns your phone to stock but it's essential because this is the step that updates everything)
5. Install TWRP recovery again (official TWRP 2.6 for Sense 5 ROMs and aosp ROMs lower than 4.4, or modified TWRP 2.6.3.0 for 4.4 aosp ROMs).
6. Update firmware via 2.15 firmware package (this step is only necessary if you're planning on installing a Sense 5 ROM). You'll find it in the first post of this thread along with instructions.
7. Install whatever ROM you like.
8. Enjoy.
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

ok ill let u know when im done

[Q] Please, Help installing CM11 (Noob here)

Hello there
I received a new HTC Sensation as a gift, It was bought from Ebay. It came with Stock 2.3. I would like some help on how to root, install CWM/4EXT and install Sultanxda's CM11 ROM. I also like Viper Rom but we all know Kitkat is in a lot of ways better than JB. I have already read the guides in the Forums, but that didn't help me much. This is my first Android phone but not necessarily the first phone I flash a Custom Rom to. I have some experience with LG and Samsung phones, but those are easier. In few words, could someone please answer this questions?
1) Do I need to update to ICS to install CM11? Also, how do I install CWM/4EXT and Root the phone?
2) Do I lose my network connectivity? I mean, do I have to backup something like IMEI data or EFS Folder? I don't live in the US (sorry for my bad english) and the phone is unlocked, dunno if that matters.
3) This may sound silly and stupid, but can I live without Gapps? I don't really need them, I can just install another market. Gapps use too much resources and the only Google Apps that I MAY use are Youtube and Chrome Browser. Also, I need to sync contacts but I already exported as Vcard file. I do not need Google Play or the other Google Apps.
Thanks for your help and advice

To flash another rom you need to be s-off or to unlock your bootloader. I don't know exactly if you need to update to ICS, but I don't think so, it should be enough to update your firmware (as far as I know that's necessary). For kitkat roms you should use 4EXT.
You don't loose anything, but you can make a backup of your stock rom as it is with 4ext and save it to your computer.
Yes, you can live without gapps. You don't want them, don't flash them.
To install a custom rom you need to do the following:
Get root access - go to htcdev.com select Sensation they will tell you what to do next
Install Custom Recovery - find an CWM TWRP or 4EXT image for Sensation here on XDA and flash it using fastboot
Get S-OFF - go to http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm they will also guide you trough the process ( the most fun ive had unlocking, its like a game)
Then you are ready to flash custom roms. As for CM11 our device isnt supported officially though there are great CM11 based roms for our device.
Installing rom is easy dont worry when you are done unlocking the phone i can explain that also. If you have any further questions regarding any of the above procedures ill try to help. Cheers

S-OFF is kinda usefull, but not necessary.
I would suggest -
revolutionary to s-off (easiest way)
flash the 3.32 or 3.33 firmware (needed for latest roms)
flash 4ext recovery (latest is 1.0.0.6) i can post it if u cant find it in link below.
Then ul have full control of ur phone and u can flash any rom in recovery. Link below has all u need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613295
there's a guide somewheres, you don't have to s-off. I'm not even sure what the benefit of s-off is.

Yes u dont need to s-off but it has many benefits (google to find out for urself) but the main reason i suggest it too some users is because normally the people that ask how to do this and how to do that r usually the people that panic when something goes wrong then they automatically think they need to run a ruu then the ruu fails then they ask questions later when they stuck. So for me to suggest s-off is for one reason only, supercid.. then when they get stuck they can run any ruu and not worry. Anyway to s-off using revolutionary is faster than unlocking ur bootloader via htcdev, so why not? And ul have FULL control of ur phone.

[Q] need help with installing custom rom on htc sensation pyramid

hi everyone

i have been worried about bricking so much that i didnt try to many weird procedures. i had even tried to go through with the android revolution installation procedure but failed right on. because revolutionary does not with with my device even though thr hboot is supported.
i badly need to move to a newer jelly bean based rom or later else my device is like a stone-age crap. i sincerely request some straight forward process / guidance of getting through this without weird, wire trick etc.
i really want to keep this device instead of buying a new device for no reason. but i dont know how to start and how to end. kindly help me out.

This is definately not the place to ask for "all inclusive help".
You should at least do some own basic researches or leave your phone as it is,
especially when you're worried about bricking your device.
There are so many excellent descriptions here, that could guide you to flash a custom rom.
2nd
If you are on hboot 1.18 you don't need to do the wire trick for s-off, just have a look at this.
If you searched a little bit, you'd find out yourself.
But even the wire trick is nothing "bad", I did it on 6 devices till now.
I'd like to encourage you to simply read/search a little bit more here in the forums before coming back and asking for help.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751187 to gain S-OFF. Don't worry about the htcdev part.
I did it on a complete stock sensation xe with hboot 1.27 or 1.29 (can't remember exactly).
Just use the temp root and rumrunner.
For any information read the thread first, before asking.
Also this thread should be moved, because it doesn't belong into the development section.

i went through the thread again and again but still find it somewhat confusing. I cant seem to separate the temproot process start and end in there. can someone outline just the temproot procedure and the pre-requisite for it ?
Does temproot require controlbear files ? rumrunner site says it requires a htc dev unlocked device. is that a must ?

I'm not 100% sure about the exact steps anymore, but you don't need Controlbear, you just need the temp root.
When you have temp root, run rumrunner and follow the instructions.
I said read the thread, cause it might be possible that you get the message that it didn't work, while it actually did work.
You'll get everything needed in the thread. Otherwise just ask.

One thing you could do is:
- get your phone updated to ICS (OTA over device settings) to get the latest firmware/hboot on it
- HTC Dev unlock your device (nothing complicated, you need to have fastboot running)
- Install/flash latest 4ext recovery (once more via fastboot) and enable smart flash option
Now in recovery with updated firmware/hboot make a nandroid backup and flash almost every rom you like.
In first place I'd not flash a CM12 rom.

One thing you could do is:
- get your phone updated to ICS (OTA over device settings) to get the latest firmware/hboot on it
- HTC Dev unlock your device (nothing complicated, you need to have fastboot running)
- Install/flash latest 4ext recovery (once more via fastboot) and enable smart flash option

since you update to ics you will be able to flash every ics/jb/kk/lp custom rom you like
so should i go ahead with the official ics update?
It's up to you.
Might be you're just satisfied with your new ICS firmware.
If you want to go further, unlock and custom recovery is an quite easy step.
For custom rom s-off is not necessarily needed.

If you do the update, try again with rumrunner after it has finished.
Thanks. I updated to ICS and did a full factory reset. The device seems to be quiet smooth compared to GB though. The next update i do will be using what you suggested. Without SOFF flashing a custom rom.
When i get there i will message back on this thread. Going to test drive this ICS now for a while.time.
