I have my at&t htc one x on 4.0.4, bootloader locked, hboot 1.14.0002 S-on
evita pvt ship. i bought from amazon used, how can i update from 4.0.4 to a higher firmware and if i try use software update it searches for a bit then i get error what can i do?

Do you want to stay stock or install custom ROMs? The two processes will be very different so I need to know which way you want to go before advising you.

Also, do you have adb/fastboot installed on your PC? If not you're going to need that, Google search "xda minimal adb and fastboot" and the first result should be a thread that details how to install it easily.

If you want to update to the latest "official" firmware, you can download the RUU at the following webpage, and follow the directions where it says "Manual system update instructions":
http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-x-att/news/
This will update you to Jellybean 4.1.1, which is the latest that has been released for the AT&T version.
Be aware this will wipe any date on the phone, so backup anything you want to keep.
EDIT: As timmaaa advised below, CID needs to be verified before running the above RUU. If SuperCID is present with s-on, running the RUU will brick the device.

Hang on, we need to check his SuperCID status before he runs a jb RUU, the phone is used. We don't want a brick on our hands.

Very true. I assumed that since the phone is still bootloader LOCKED, that its bone stock (I also missed the word "used" when I read the OP). But its possible the previous owner changed the CID, but either botched the BL unlocking or didn't get that far.
I've edited my previous post accordingly, to make sure the OP doesn't damage his phone.

Yeah, previous owner could have also spoofed the bootloader text to say locked instead of relocked.
OP, get adb/organised as per my first reply and then we can check out your situation before proceeding.

Huh? That makes absolutely no sense. If you want help please do the following:
1- Don't hijack this thread, we're already helping someone else here. Please repost your question in my q&a thread.
2- Tell me exactly what you want to achieve.
3- Tell me your bootloader details.
4- Tell me any other relevant information.
5- Do all this in clear and legible English, and be specific.
PS. There are no such things as a 'sid lock' or 'sloff', as I've said above please post in clear English using terms that actually exist.

ok im going to try super cid do i need to root my phone 1st and i want stock unless custom is more better and stable.

Stock ROM is stable but so are custom ROMs, plus you get better features with custom ROMs. Before you do anything though you need to decide whether you want to use a stock ROM or a custom ROM. The two processes will vary greatly. Have you installed adb/fastboot like I suggested earlier?
Sent from my Evita

no i didnt get get adb or fastboot i dont know were to get it and ok i'll do custom rom.

ok im roothing and it says * daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
DON'T TOUCH THE DEVICE OR UNPLUG WHILE ROOTING!

its been like this for 5mins now?

What method are you using?
Sent from my Evita

i was using a one click rooting software i deleted it i now have
onexrootattnew.zip but that doesnt want to root it either really and truly i jus wanted to update my software cuz my phone wifi range is seriously low to the point that i have to be right new to a router or 5ft away to catch signal and my bluetooth range basically is 1ft so i wanted to update to fix my problem

There's only one way you can get root. The first thing you need to do is stop getting information from other sites, they don't properly distinguish between firmware versions, and even phone models. Everything you need is here on XDA, it's the only comprehensive Android modification site available.
Click the Everything Evita link in my signature and bookmark that thread, everything you need is compiled in that thread. In that thread navigate to the root section, find the 2.20 root method. Follow the instructions in that thread and you'll have SuperCID. Then you can go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader. Once you have an unlocked bootloader you can install Superuser to root your current ROM, or you can install a custom ROM. If you need help installing a recovery or ROM just click the How-To Guide For Beginners link in my signature.

thanks man i will try it out will get back to u by 2morrow.

my bootloader is unlocked so i can get any custom rom?

Technically, yes. But your phone still needs some updating before you can stay on a custom ROM. Your steps will be as follows:
1. Install TWRP recovery.
2. Install root via SuperSU.
3. Get s-off via Facepalm.
4. Run the 3.18 RUU (this returns your phone to stock but it's essential because this is the step that updates everything)
5. Install TWRP recovery again (official TWRP 2.6 for Sense 5 ROMs and aosp ROMs lower than 4.4, or modified TWRP 2.6.3.0 for 4.4 aosp ROMs).
6. Update firmware via 2.15 firmware package (this step is only necessary if you're planning on installing a Sense 5 ROM). You'll find it in the first post of this thread along with instructions.
7. Install whatever ROM you like.
8. Enjoy.
If you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

ok ill let u know when im done

Have a look at my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature for detailed instructions on some of those processes.

Help with restoring back to stock???

Hey Guys!!!
I've been looking around for a straightforward tutorial on how to flash back to stock.
If anyone could point me to the right thread that would be helpful, I'd would just like to set everything back to normal since I need to send the phone back.
I just want to know what the process is, like 1. Relock Bootloader 2. Flash Stock T-Mobile ROM 3. Flash Stock Recovery, something to that effect, so if any of you can point me to the right direction that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance guys:fingers-crossed:
!!!!!!--UPDATE---!!!!!!!!
So it worked everyone like a charm, so much thanks to baseballfanz, jdizzle316, and Senzune
So here's the breakdown on what I did, and again !!! This is for TMOUS and I tested with the 1.84.531.2 software !!!!
1. Re-locked the bootloader
- You can use the All in one tool from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604677
- Or boot into fastboot and enter fastboot oem lock
2. Reboot the phone, check everything is ok
- no need to go back to bootloader or recovery
3. Boot back into bootloader
4. Go into fastboot
5. Run TMOUS RUU, go through the process and then just let it run, don't touch anything
- I found it from this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1744177&page=3
- If anyone needs another dropbox link let me know
6. Once it's all set you'll be back in the bootloader and all you have to do is just reboot the phone
And again thanks everyone for the help :fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
Are you on stock but rooted ROM or a custom ROM?

I'm on Trickdroid like you are it seems, so I think that's considered custom no?
Just lock the bootloader and run the T mobile RUU
Use the all in one root kit in order to lock your bootloader(this can be found in the development section)
Once you bootloader is locked, download the TMOUS RUU, also found in the development section. This is an exe file you run on your pc.
Boot your phone into bootloader, then choose fast boot. Attach your phone to the USB connected to your PC and then run the ruu and from then it will take your device to completely stock.

Ok great
Now not sure if either you or baseballfanz have read anything about this on the forums, but I've downloaded both:
- RUU_Ville_U_TMOUS_1.53.531.16_Radio_0.16.31501S.02_10.18.31501S.08L_release_262073_signed

Which one of these RUUs would allow for regular OTA updates, I'm not sure if either of you would know but I'm just curious
Thanks again guys for you help by the way:laugh::victory:

You need to check in your settings which one applies to your device - at least I hope that's the way to decide which one to use. I have an RUU downloaded myself, just incase I ever do decide to get a custom ROM (waiting for a JB one which actually works). I found the proper one by checking which one has the same Baseband version, which in the stock ROM is found under About > Software information > More.
Since you seem to be on a TMOUS version of the One S, I believe it to be highly likely the 1.84 one is the way to go, as most updated to that version, including custom ROMs. You'd have to check that at Software number, I believe, if that's not altered by the custom ROM.

Yes here is a link to the process, **As with any rooting instructions PLEASE read them over several times before you attempt to use it**
[SIZE=+1]Q4: What do I do if I want to be able to root the JB OTA? [/SIZE]
If bootloader unlocked, SuperCID and custom recovery, and still want the OTA, be aware that OTA with SuperCID will brick your phone unless you S-Off. Also, OTA will not install with custom recovery (requires stock recovery). Best method to OTA is to S-off, relock bootloader, and RUU back to stock recovery. Then install the OTA. After you install OTA all you have to do is the rooting proecess
[SIZE=+1]Q5: How do I root my phone?[/SIZE]
If you have an AT&T:
If your phone has the 3.18 software [ROOT] HTC One X AT&T 3.18][, detailed instructions in my [How-To Guide For Beginners Thread
If your phone has the 2.20 Firmware [ROOT] HTC One X AT&T 2.20 Firmware - X-Factor root exploit
If your phone has the 1.85 Firmware [ROOT] 1.85 - New, working method - ACT NOW
If you own a non AT&T device you can unlock you bootloader via [url]http://www.htcdev.com [/URL], install a custom recovery (TWRP/CWM), and install custom ROM's with root. Alternatively some root exploits may be possible but are not the preferred method. If you want to retain your stock ROM but root it just flash SU in recovery
[SIZE=+1]Q6: Which custom recovery should I use?[/SIZE]
We have 2 options for recovery, you can use CWM or TWRP

[SIZE=+1]Q7: How do I flash my custom recovery?[/SIZE]
Flashing a custom recovery is pretty easy, using fastboot you'll find full instructions in this thread:

Information is located on the same page as above New method, customize your HBoot!
[SIZE=+1]Q10: Can I install an OTA on my rooted device?[/SIZE]
No easy answer to this, as every OTA is different. You might need to unroot before installing the OTA, or the OTA may fail to install or bootloop the phone. You will probably lose root, and if your phone is the AT&T version, you may not be able to root until a new exploit is found. Changes might have been made to hboot or other firmware components, which can affect the function of the phone, or the ability to install custom ROMs and other mods.
Don't install the update until you have researched and fully understand what the specific OTA will do to your device.
[SIZE=+1]Q11: How do I flash a boot.img via fastboot?[/SIZE]
Flashing a boot.img is taken care of with fastboot, full instructions here:
[GUIDES]{Evita/One XL} Timmaaa's Beginners How-To Guides
[SIZE=+1]Q12: Bootloader unlocking. Yes it is necessary?[/SIZE]
Without an unlocked bootloader you can't flash a custom recovery. Without a custom recovery you can't install root or custom ROMs.
[SIZE=+1]Q13: Is my phone Bricked?[/SIZE]
If you can boot into bootloader then the answer is No. If your phone will not boot at all, and/or shows up as QHSUSB_DLOAD in Decide Manager on your PC, then yes you're bricked
[SIZE=+1]Q14: Do I need to downgrade my touchscreen firmware?[/SIZE]
This is only required if you're on the 2.14 firmware or above (which you probably are by now) and are wanting to use the much older pre-3.4 kernel AOSP roms (up until about June 2013). Any current aosp ROM does not require the ts firmware to be downgraded. Here is the link to any and all information on downgrading and or upgrading.
[How-To] Downgrade your Touch Panel's firmware (and upgrade back)
[SIZE=+1]Q15: What is S-OFF? & How do we get s-off?[/SIZE]
S-off means security off, or security checks have been disabled. With s-off you can flash radios, also splash screens and boot.img (kernel) from recovery without using fastboot (no more flashing the boot.img manually after flashing your ROM). S-off also means a device with SuperCID can safely run a jb RUU without bricking the phone.
How to s-off:
There are now two s-off methods, Facepalm and Rumrunner. Facepalm requires an unlocked bootloader, root, and SuperCID. Rumrunner requires an unlocked bootloader and root.
[S-Off] Facepalm S-Off for HTC Devices One S, One XL, Droid DNA
[S-Off] Rumrunner S-off for HTC One XL
[SIZE=+1]Q16: I did a factory reset from the bootloader. Now the SD card isn't able to be mounted/accessed.[/SIZE]
This is a bug within the bootloader on modified Evitas, and factory resets should only be performed from within bTWRP.
Use TWRP 2.6 or above to wipe the sd card. If the sd card still isn't usable, use the mount usb storage option to mount the card to your PC and format the sd card using Windows (Windows Explorer or Device Manager). FAT32 is the correct format to use.
[SIZE=+1]Q17: My PC won't connect to the phone by USB (for RUU, fastboot, adb, etc.), what do I do?[/SIZE]
Make sure you have the correct/latest HTC drivers installed, make sure you have usb debugging enabled, and/or try another usb port/cable.
[SIZE=+1]Q18: How do I relock the bootloader, or return to stock (or close to stock as possible)[/SIZE]
Connect your phone in fastboot mode and issue the following fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
[SIZE=+1]Q19: I am on hboot 1.14 or later. I flashed a ROM, and it won't boot.[/SIZE]
If you're s-on you need to flash boot.img thru fastboot (instructions in my guide thread, linked above in question 11). If you get s-off on your device you'll no longer to this.
[SIZE=+1]Q20: Will rooting affect my battery life?[/SIZE]
No simply rooting the phone should not hamper battery life. However, battery life can change dramatically from ROM to ROM.
[SIZE=+1]Q21: What is the best radio?[/SIZE]
Reception and battery life are subject to exact geographic location, and other variables, therefore nobody can suggest a radio for you. Picking a radio is often trial-and-error, flash a radio and note the signal strength and battery performance. Not the bars in your status bar, but the actual signal strength measured by db (-110db is poor strength and -51db is good strength). This can be found in Settings/About Phone. Repeat the process until you've found the best radio for you. See the radio thread [Radio][RIL]HOXL Radios/RILs including CM10.x based ROMs (Flashable zips)
[SIZE=+1]Q22: What is the best ROM?[/SIZE]
This question is not allowed. To say one ROM is better/most stable/fastest/best battery/prettiest infers that the other ROMs are inferior in some way. This is unfair to the developers who spend a great deal of their spare time bringing us these fantastic ROMs completely free of charge. Have a look through the ROMs that are available and pick one that suits your needs. If you don't end up liking it you can easily flash another one, this is half the fun anyway.
[SIZE=+1]Q23: I installed a rom and now my phone now it is boot looping what is wrong?[/SIZE]
If you're s-on you probably just need to flash the boot.img with fastboot (instructions here). You might have a corrupted download, always check the md5 of a file before you flash it.
[SIZE=+1]Q24: Where is a good guide for the AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL? [/SIZE]
See here for further assistance with your One XL:
[INDEX]AT&T/ROGERS One X Resources Compilation Roll-Up
[GUIDE]Timmaaa's How-To Guide For Beginners Thread
[SIZE=+1]Q25: What is an md5 and why is it important?[/SIZE]
An md5 is like a digital fingerprint of a file. The md5 should be listed on the download page for a file. Once you've downloaded a ROM/kernel/radio/mod etc you must check that the md5 of the downloaded file matches the md5 listed on the download page exactly. This ensures that the integrity of the file is intact and it hasn't become corrupted during the download. If a file has changed even slightly during a download the md5 will change dramatically. If the md5 of your downloaded file doesn't match, do not flash it, it could cause major problems on your device.
[SIZE=+1]Q26: I've just installed a Sense 5 ROM and I keep losing signal and suffering random reboots, how can I stop it?[/SIZE]
You need to update your firmware, do this by flashing the 2.15 firmware package. You can find it (along with detailed instructions) in my guide thread: [GUIDES]{Evita/One XL} Timmaaa's How-To Guide For Beginners
Please note: the 2.15 firmware package requires s-off and SuperCID.
[SIZE=+1]Q27: I'm trying to install a KitKat or Lollipop aosp ROM and I keep getting errors and failed installs, what's going on?[/SIZE]
It's most likely one of two scenarios:
Scenario 1: Your firmware is outdated. Flash the 2.15 firmware package found in my How-To Thread
Scenario 2: You're not using the right recovery. Download the latest TWRP.

Hey Ronnie...often when I tell people to fastboot flash the boot img they are still a bit confused maybe you could add this
Hhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1671237
Flashing boot img through fastboot...
download the file in the link which above which will include adb and fastboot....put that on your computer somewhere you can find it.. now take the boot image out of the Rom zip and place it in that folder... Boot your phone into bootloader scroll down and select fastboot and now open a command prompt with in the fastbootbadb folder on your comp and type to command without the quotes "fastboot flash boot boot.img"...now go wipe in recovery and install the Rom it doesn't matter if you keep the boot img in the Rom zip or not

For Q2 you could add:
If you own a non AT&T device you can unlock you bootloader via http://www.htcdev.com and install custom ROM's with root. Alternatively some root exploits may be possible but are not the preferred method.
Suggest fleshing out some of the answers a bit:
Q2: Clockworkmod (CWM) has never officially supported the dual core One X/XL, and any versions found were quick ports, with serious known issues. TWRP officially supports our device, and therefore is the only custom recovery that is recommended.
Q3: Add to the non-ATT paragraph: "or flash SU in recovery"
Q4: On your computer, open the custom ROM zip using an unzip program (WinZip, WinRAR, etc.) and extract the file "boot.img" (no quotes). Place this file in the same folder as fastboot.exe.
Q11: There is no "best" radio for all users. Reception and battery life are subject to exact geographic location, and other variables. Therefore picking a radio is often trial-and-error. See the radio thread, which includes a Google map which may give you suggestions on what radio(s) to try.

Folks who made posts 4 and 6 apparently did not bother reading the OP, which clearly states: If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Folks had the same problem, asking general help questions in my Index thread (why you should ask for help in an Index thread, I have no idea!). This seemed to get better once I boldfaced the part that said don't ask general support questions in the thread. You might want to do the same (larger or different color font, etc.).
Speaking of my Index thread, might want to add that to the FAQ. People still seem to have trouble realizing it exists, and ask for things easily found if they had just used the Index.

As stated in the op this thread is a faq thread.

This one gets asked a lot (and probably even more so when AT&T finally rolls out JB):
Q: Can I install an OTA on my rooted device?
A: No easy answer to this, as every OTA is different. You might need to unroot before installing the OTA, or the OTA may fail to install or bootloop the phone. You will probably lose root, and if your phone is the AT&T version, you may not be able to root until a new exploit is found. Don't install the update until you have researched and fully understand what the specific OTA will do to your device.
Not to be a pest, but link to X-factor exploit in Q3 is still busted.
This questions was asked 3 times today alone:
Q: I did a factory reset in hboot. Now the SD memory is wiped, and won't mount USB.
A: Connect the phone to a Windows PC, open Device Manager. There you should have the option to format the SD memory. Format as FAT32, and this should fix the SD card corruption.
This is a bug within hboot, and factory resets should only be done in TWRP.

This is long overdue, as this thread really hasn't been maintained for some time.
Of course any current FAQ list will need to include the solution to signal drops and random reboots on Sense 5 ROMs.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2137959
But there's a mention of it on the 3.18 thread as well:

[Q] Please, Help installing CM11 (Noob here)

Hello there
I received a new HTC Sensation as a gift, It was bought from Ebay. It came with Stock 2.3. I would like some help on how to root, install CWM/4EXT and install Sultanxda's CM11 ROM. I also like Viper Rom but we all know Kitkat is in a lot of ways better than JB. I have already read the guides in the Forums, but that didn't help me much. This is my first Android phone but not necessarily the first phone I flash a Custom Rom to. I have some experience with LG and Samsung phones, but those are easier. In few words, could someone please answer this questions?
1) Do I need to update to ICS to install CM11? Also, how do I install CWM/4EXT and Root the phone?
2) Do I lose my network connectivity? I mean, do I have to backup something like IMEI data or EFS Folder? I don't live in the US (sorry for my bad english) and the phone is unlocked, dunno if that matters.
3) This may sound silly and stupid, but can I live without Gapps? I don't really need them, I can just install another market. Gapps use too much resources and the only Google Apps that I MAY use are Youtube and Chrome Browser. Also, I need to sync contacts but I already exported as Vcard file. I do not need Google Play or the other Google Apps.
Thanks for your help and advice

To flash another rom you need to be s-off or to unlock your bootloader. I don't know exactly if you need to update to ICS, but I don't think so, it should be enough to update your firmware (as far as I know that's necessary). For kitkat roms you should use 4EXT.
You don't loose anything, but you can make a backup of your stock rom as it is with 4ext and save it to your computer.
Yes, you can live without gapps. You don't want them, don't flash them.
To install a custom rom you need to do the following:
Get root access - go to htcdev.com select Sensation they will tell you what to do next
Install Custom Recovery - find an CWM TWRP or 4EXT image for Sensation here on XDA and flash it using fastboot
Get S-OFF - go to http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm they will also guide you trough the process ( the most fun ive had unlocking, its like a game)
Then you are ready to flash custom roms. As for CM11 our device isnt supported officially though there are great CM11 based roms for our device.
Installing rom is easy dont worry when you are done unlocking the phone i can explain that also. If you have any further questions regarding any of the above procedures ill try to help. Cheers

S-OFF is kinda usefull, but not necessary.
I would suggest -
revolutionary to s-off (easiest way)
flash the 3.32 or 3.33 firmware (needed for latest roms)
flash 4ext recovery (latest is 1.0.0.6) i can post it if u cant find it in link below.
Then ul have full control of ur phone and u can flash any rom in recovery. Link below has all u need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1613295
there's a guide somewheres, you don't have to s-off. I'm not even sure what the benefit of s-off is.

Yes u dont need to s-off but it has many benefits (google to find out for urself) but the main reason i suggest it too some users is because normally the people that ask how to do this and how to do that r usually the people that panic when something goes wrong then they automatically think they need to run a ruu then the ruu fails then they ask questions later when they stuck. So for me to suggest s-off is for one reason only, supercid.. then when they get stuck they can run any ruu and not worry. Anyway to s-off using revolutionary is faster than unlocking ur bootloader via htcdev, so why not? And ul have FULL control of ur phone.

Revolutionary is an easier method than juopunutbear but the later editions of HTC Sensations (XE) are not supported. Mine came with HBoot 1.27 i think and maximum for the revolutionary is 1.18 (http://revolutionary.io/).

New or second hand/used? Sensations came with stock android 2.3.x including the xe, with the option to upgrade to ICS. i have the XE and normal senny. the op of this thread says he has a sensation stock 2.3.x so he should be ok for revolutionary.

Strange coz the ics upgrade was more a test than anything. Was there for users to install if they wanted it.

Yea at some point in 2012 HTC stopped shipping Senny with Beats headphones (which i didnt care for anyway), then started shipping with stock ICS (http://www.phonearena.com/news/Whit...March-to-ship-with-Ice-Cream-Sandwich_id26512).

Cool, did not know that. Strange that they shipped it with ICS coz it was not very good, had bugs and alot of users had wifi issues. The ICS sense 3.6 roms here on xda r good but htc"s update wasnt.

Just uninstall whichever root app is present on the ROM (Superuser or SuperSU), voila, you're 100% stock.

thankx
thanks for your help but I guess I won't be able to installed ota anymore? though I don't think there be any coming to the phone anymore
Why do you think that? If the phone has an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery (which you'd need to flash a nand) you shouldn't take an OTA anyway. If you want to go completely back to stock you need to get s-off so you can run the last Telstra RUU (1.89 I think), lock your bootloader, and take every OTA to get back up to date.

Am grateful bro.
my mobile data wont work
Hi,
so after weeks and days of suffering and trying to install any rom on my HTC One XL only telestra works, even CM wont boot I get into boot looping...
So after I installed telestra my mobile data wont work, I tried on my own find out what is the problem, even I tried to downgrade my phone to froyo so I can install RUU and I couldn't downgrade because adb wont push file to my device one file go through and the other won't... It's says permission denied.
I am here asking for you help please I am so desperate, I am trying to do this all by own so I don't need to pay 20 euros to some services.
I am looking for how to fix this mobile data problem and why I am getting permission denied in adb push file, I was following this tread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1600904

Hang on...
Firstly, you tried to downgrade the phone to Froyo? This device has never had Froyo on it, the earliest version of Android that it came with was Ice Cream Sandwich. So what on earth did you try to flash to your device??
Secondly, the other thread that you link to isn't for this phone, it's for the HTC Droid Incredible.
Mate, it seems as if you've been attempting to flash firmwares and exploits from other devices onto this phone, it's a wonder you haven't bricked the thing! ROMs, kernels, radios, firmwares, exploits, etc, are only compatible for the device that they were developed for, they're not interchangeable. This is our device section:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att
Do not, under any circumstances, wander outside of that section and its sub-forums for anything or it's only a matter of time before you have an expensive paperweight.
Now, what recovery do you have on the phone?
PS. You should edit that image asap, it shows your IMEI, that's something you should never post publicly.
Ty for help and your time first.
I edited photo in paint but you need to edit your post too because picture is still there.
My phone is HTC One XL, xda wont accept this when I enter my device.
Well it's a wonder I didn't throw my phone into the wall.
So everything was fine on this phone until battery started to dry out fast, it's started to lag and everything was slow, clean master, battery doctor didn't help, factory reset few times didn't help.
Then I tried to install CM with this instructions ( I can't link it but when you enter in Google how to install CM on HTC One XL it will pop out wiki ) but my phone wouldn't boot any CM for my phone known as "evita", it would stuck at boot looping.
I have access to recovery. bootloader, fastboot and everything so still it isn't a brick.
I have this recovery img TWRP 2.7.0.8. but if needed I can change it into ClockworkMod 6.0.4.8.
I don't have many experiences in rooting android but I learned some basic commands in cmd with fastboot and adb.

I've edited the image out of my post. Your phone probably boot looped after installing CM because you didn't flash the boot.img via fastboot afterwards, am I right? Because you're s-on and have firmware equal to or higher than 1.14 your phone can't flash the boot.img during a ROM flash in recovery, this means you need to do it manually with fastboot after flashing the ROM. I have detailed instructions in my guide thread (link in my signature).
You need to run an RUU which will take the device back to stock and hopefully clear up the issues you've been facing. In order to run an RUU you first need to get s-off (and SuperCID if you don't already have it). In order to get s-off you need to first flash the Kickdroid 5.0 ROM (Rumrunner s-off has the highest success rate on this ROM).
1. Flash Kickdroid (don't forget to flag the boot.img afterwards too).
2. Go to the Rumrunner site and get s-off.
3. Check your CID:
Code:
fastboot oem readcid
3b. If it's anything other than 11111111 you need to change it:
Code:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
4. You can now run whatever Evita RUU you want, and leave the device stock for a couple of days to see if your problems persist. What variant is the phone? At&t? Rogers? Telstra? Hong Kong?
Transmitted via Bacon
I did everything what it's says on rumrunner s-off page before I tried to install CM
well I would link to you what steps I was following but I am junior member so I can't, as I said write in google how to install cm on htc one xl and you will get wiki page and there will be steps which I followed.
How could I install then telestra if I didn't was s-off?
I am very tired now but I will answer to you some basic question you asked.
I am on vodafone variant or in my country (Croatia) it's vip, so when I get some sleep I need to install Kickdroid (well in the morning I guess I would figure out what flag the boot.img mean), and after Kickdroid I can install any RUU I want but need one for vodafone am I right? something like this? RUU_EVITA_UL_ICS_40_S_Vodafone_CH-DE_2.41.166.1_Radio_0.20os.32.09.10_2_10.113.32.28L_release_280222_signed
I found that on this page AndroidRUU, and when I bought my phone it was on German lang.
And if I manage to install Kickdroid and then RUU I will try to give a chance and see if it work normally but if not I can install again Kickdroid and have that rom? And I can install some kernel but for now I don't know what kernel is and I don't understand do I need to install kernel or not? Oh man ty for your time and explanation I need to take some time and to figure all of this and to install properly .
Forget about whatever you did or didn't do in the past, it didn't work and there's no point wondering why right now because I've laid out a plan for you to move forward. Install Kickdroid, get s-off with Rumrunner, and run an RUU. You don't necessarily have to run a Vodafone RUU, you can run any Evita RUU, but yes the one you mentioned is compatible. You absolutely must get s-off before running any RUU though or you will brick the phone. Follow the steps I mentioned before exactly and you should be ok.
Just realised I missed some of your questions. If you want use Kickdroid as your ROM you definitely can, it's a very good ROM. It's a bit hard to describe what a kernel is briefly, but put simply it's a separate level of firmware that controls how the software or OS (and you) interacts with with hardware. You don't need to flash a kernel, every ROM zip contains a kernel already, otherwise the phone wouldn't operate, it wouldn't even boot up. There are custom kernels available that allow a bit of extra tweaking, like overclocking (or underclocking) the CPU, undervolting, sound tweaks, and various other much more complicated tweaks.

[Q] need help with installing custom rom on htc sensation pyramid

hi everyone
i havebeen struggling with this for 2 years now. i have HTC sensation with hboot 1.18.xxxx that i bought in 2011. after the first year i have been keen to move to a newer rom. i have tried to look up inf in xda and elsewhere and got no where with this.
i have been worried about bricking so much that i didnt try to many weird procedures. i had even tried to go through with the android revolution installation procedure but failed right on. because revolutionary does not with with my device even though thr hboot is supported.
i badly need to move to a newer jelly bean based rom or later else my device is like a stone-age crap. i sincerely request some straight forward process / guidance of getting through this without weird, wire trick etc.
i really want to keep this device instead of buying a new device for no reason. but i dont know how to start and how to end. kindly help me out.

This is definately not the place to ask for "all inclusive help".
You should at least do some own basic researches or leave your phone as it is,
especially when you're worried about bricking your device.
There are so many excellent descriptions here, that could guide you to flash a custom rom.
2nd
If you are on hboot 1.18 you don't need to do the wire trick for s-off, just have a look at this.
If you searched a little bit, you'd find out yourself.
But even the wire trick is nothing "bad", I did it on 6 devices till now.
I'd like to encourage you to simply read/search a little bit more here in the forums before coming back and asking for help.

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2751187 to gain S-OFF. Don't worry about the htcdev part.
I did it on a complete stock sensation xe with hboot 1.27 or 1.29 (can't remember exactly).
Just use the temp root and rumrunner.
For any information read the thread first, before asking.
Also this thread should be moved, because it doesn't belong into the development section.

i went through the thread again and again but still find it somewhat confusing. I cant seem to separate the temproot process start and end in there. can someone outline just the temproot procedure and the pre-requisite for it ?
Does temproot require controlbear files ? rumrunner site says it requires a htc dev unlocked device. is that a must ?

I'm not 100% sure about the exact steps anymore, but you don't need Controlbear, you just need the temp root.
When you have temp root, run rumrunner and follow the instructions.
I said read the thread, cause it might be possible that you get the message that it didn't work, while it actually did work.
You'll get everything needed in the thread. Otherwise just ask.

- get your phone updated to ICS (OTA over device settings) to get the latest firmware/hboot on it
- HTC Dev unlock your device (nothing complicated, you need to have fastboot running)
- Install/flash latest 4ext recovery (once more via fastboot) and enable smart flash option
Now in recovery with updated firmware/hboot make a nandroid backup and flash almost every rom you like.
In first place I'd not flash a CM12 rom.

since you update to ics you will be able to flash every ics/jb/kk/lp custom rom you like
so should i go ahead with the official ics update?
It's up to you.
Might be you're just satisfied with your new ICS firmware.
If you want to go further, unlock and custom recovery is an quite easy step.
For custom rom s-off is not necessarily needed.

If you do the update, try again with rumrunner after it has finished.
Thanks. I updated to ICS and did a full factory reset. The device seems to be quiet smooth compared to GB though. The next update i do will be using what you suggested. Without SOFF flashing a custom rom.
When i get there i will message back on this thread. Going to test drive this ICS now for a while.time.
