Hello,
I rooted my phone a few months ago and have been a frequent ROM flasher. 2 days ago I flashed a MIUI ROM via CWM Recovery and applied an iPhone theme and I love it. My issue is trying to change the splash screen. Every time I've tried I get either a parsing error message that flashes briefly in green text, or a wrong model error message in red text. What am I doing wrong, and is the correct title PD98DIaG.zip or is it PD98DIAG.zip? I've looked at other threads and noticed the titles for the zip file varies. How can I tell what to discard and what to keep/renamed too? Any and all help is appreciated.

Its neither . Its suppose to be PD98IMG.zip.
There is a thread called splash screen emporium in the themes and apps section that will show you how to correctly make one
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA
Thanks for clearing that up. I renamed it to PD98IMG.zip and when in bootloader it briefly flashes in green text parsing... the disappears and nothing happens. Is this a bad zip file or am I being impatient? I've let it sit untouched for between 5 and 10 min and nothing ever happened so I just rebooted. This is driving me insane lol
My guess is your missing the text file inside the zip file. Head on over to the splash thread and in the first post is a pd98 already formatted for you. Just simply place your image inside

Thank you again for directing me to that, I was having such difficulty trying to do it on my phone and believe I was just doing more harm than good.

I have a sidekick 4G and my gf decided to do a factory wipe, something i have done before on other android devices, but when it restarted it went through the normal process but before it loads the OS the screen goes black. The back light is still on but nothing on the screen. So i was reading the forms and saw the odin program and i was able to get the phone into download mode and odin recognized it but after odin was finished the phone restarts and now nothing comes up. Just a black screen with the back light on. Can anyone help...i have scoured the forms and you-tube for an answer but i have come across nothing.

Where did you download the files you used for odin

It was from a you-tube video and it was just the odin exe thats it
Look in the sk4g development forum and it should be the topic "[rom] [odin] stock odexed t839uvkg2, I'm pretty sure there is a guide there to if it helps thank the op

I'm also quite sure I bricked my sidekick! I can get to the download mode using the usb cable and the 3-button combo but the phone always resets itself to a black backlight screen in about 50 seconds so I can never get the stock ROM loaded using ODIN. Is there a small quick-loading ROM available that I can use to get my phone back to life? Thanks in advance for the advice
It wont boot into download mode at all... when i plug it in the back light just lights up and that's it and when i press the power button when its not plugged in the back light comes on but then turns off when i let go of the power

If there is no sk logo at all, then yes you bricked it.
Thats how i got into download mode the first time but now it just wont work either way
Did u try removing the battery plugging it in and then holding volume down and the trackpad and then inserting the battery while still holding the buttons
Edit: my bad

I know this is in the SGS4G forum, but you could try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220181
You can find the correct boot.bin and sbl.bin, you can extract the odin image for either KD1 or KG2, they should be the same.
yea it just stays lit up and does not change
Then that's a typical hard brick, I'd try the thread I posted above your post, as at this point, you have nothing left to lose.
how do i extract boot.bin and sbl.bin from the KD1? when i open it up i dont see those files
It just flashes the back light and does nothing with everything that i try and when i hold the buttons down to enter download mode it just flashes the back light every few seconds
Then you must be opening the wrong thing, or are using something weird to open it?
What is the name of the tar file you opened, and what program did you use to open it?
i opened it with win-rar what am i pose to use?
winrar should be able to open it just fine. where did you download the tar file from, and that's the exact file name? what do you find when you open it?
I'm a complete n00b at rooting and hacking on Android and the HTC Inspire is the first Android phone I've ever had. I've searched the forum and tried loading PD98IMG.zip files, using the HBOOT recovery, but I'm still having a nasty problem with my Inspire 4G. I'd really like any help if I can get it - I think I've been sweating bullets for the last 2 hours...
Here's the rundown of what happened:
I rooted my Inspire 4G this morning using the Ace Hack Kit and everything was working fine until I tried CyanogenMod7. After that, I somehow managed to get it all working again, but didn't end up liking Cyanogen because various programs (such as Android Market) kept crashing. I switched to the TPC Inspire 4G ROM, and everything was peachy again. However, I wanted to try and get the completely stock version of the Inspire ROM, and loaded that onto the phone. I noticed that it was missing the ROMmanager, so I ran Ace Hack Kit again. This is where the huge problem happened. While reloading the older version of the ROM (I think it was doing the radio), everything went black on the phone screen, and stayed that way. The terminal screen (I'm running OS X) didn't show any progress, so I rebooted the phone. Now, the phone starts up with the white HTC screen, then fades to black and stays that way. You can tell the screen is on because the backlight is there, but otherwise, I'm stuck.
I'm currently trying to re-run the Ace Hack Kit, but the terminal says that the device is offline, then sits at < waiting for device >. I've tried re-flashing to the original HTC ROM from the website, but it doesn't detect that the device is even attached to the computer.
If you can help, that would be great! I've had this phone for 3 days, and I'm freaking out that I've just destroyed it.
Just an update - I tried a hard reset (power + vol up + vol down) and I get the green LED on, and the phone vibrates 3 times, then it sits there with the green LED indicator and nothing happening to the screen.
Do a search for un-brick. I dont have an Inspire, but on my Infuse there are a few different ways to return to stock and also to un brick. And once you get it fixed calm down on all the rom switching maybe? I mean u said 3 days and you were flippin through em then attempted a stock rom then another Ace Hack. My advice is slow down, take a deep breath and read the forums. Do this before you make moves. Good luck buddy.

Did you not backup, b4 you tried flashing another rom? If u did, just hold ur volume down button and hit ur power button... should go into bootloader (hboot). Once there select the recover option. If you havent backed up, I belive theres a recovery you can download. I just had that same problem while trying to get to hboot, was just a user error.... take ur time and dont worry, I dont belive ur fully bricked.

Your mistake was trying to root again once you saw rom manager was missing. Rom manager is an app you can download from the market. Not every dev includes it in their roms. Go back to the hack kit thread, look in the op, and join his irc. He will help you.

Unfortunately, I did not do a backup - I'll try and look for another recovery ROM. Did you have any trouble with the HBOOT not finding the PD98DIAG.zip file? It seems like HBOOT is not seeing the PD98IMG file either... I have the PD98IMG zip file in the root directory of my SD card too.
Thanks for the support - I'll need it...

Thanks - I talked with attn1, who wrote the hack kit, and he walked me through the process. Basically, I had to get the stock version of the PD98IMG.zip, which he provided.
Then, I followed the following steps (all typing is in terminal (I'm on Mac OS X):
1. Type: fastboot oem rebootRUU
2. The Inspire 4G went to a black screen with a chrome HTC logo.
3. Type: fastboot erase cache
4. Once that completes (the message says: erasing 'cache'... OKAY), type: fastboot flash zip PD98IMG.zip
5. That command flashes the Inspire 4G with the stock ROM. The phone will display the chrome HTC logo and a progress bar. Once it completes IN THE TERMINAL with the status OKAY, then type: fastboot reboot
6. Voila! HTC Inspire 4G is back to working condition. This method returned the phone back to stock mode, which means if you want to install custom ROMs and such again, you'll need to root it. Make sure to set the USB debugging on, and Connect to PC to Charging Only.
Thanks, attn1! Hope this will help others who get into this problem case.
Get the official ruu from htc. After that don't update and use simple root, this is better since if you brick it again you can go to fast boot and flash it back to inspire 4g rooted

Go to th IRC forums an they can get you unjammed

I had this same problem (goes black and vibrates 3 times- except with a orange blinking light) before.
To fix it:
1. Completely shut down, remove the battery, and put a timer on for 10 minutes
2. Remove your microSD card from your phone, and put it in a card adapter for your computer
3. Put a ROM installer .zip on your microSD.
4. After 10 minutes is up, put your microSD in your phone, and turn it on
5. Go into H-BOOT, and select boot to recovery
6. Install by selecting the .zip let it do its thing
Hope that helped!

So i am quite new to xda developers. I recently acquired an HTC DHD and tried to update the rom. it completed successfully but now the phone takes about 20 minutes to start. when the htc logo appears eventually, the phone then vibrates for another three minutes before the quietly brilliant appears. the phone then boots. when i make a call the other party hears me clearly but i cannot hear anything.
I tried to reflash the rom but the fastboot stops responding whenever i get to the menu where i have to choose recovery.
any and all help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.
Did you try to get to recovery threw Rom Manager?

I tried following cyanogen wiki on an Inspire 4G. It didn't work and gave "Incorrect Model ID" error.
So I switched to use Hack-Ace tool. Everything worked as expected and I guess I was going good. When Hack-Ace completed, the phone went into an infinite look showing HTC logo then blind to a black screen with background light ON.
I could ADB and reboot in bootloader where I clashed the CM7 ROM. Every step went through fine and it restarted. Now all I get is nothing.
The device shows the HTC Logo on white screen after leaving a while and the vibrator is ON constantly. It doesn't help really but keeps doing that. It will only stop if I remove battery.
Plugging the device into USB doesn't detect on PC.
When tried charging, it shows the error messages and nothing happens, no buttons interact.
I guess I have a full brickd phone now
Have you tried flashing stock ruu thru bootloader

You font nerd recovery with that file. Just out it on the root if your sdcard. Meaning not in any folder and boot into bootloader...not recovery then it will recognize the file then just follow onscreen instructions

Dude download the PD98 file above it is the rooted updated gingerbread ROM. Place it in the root of your SD card (you will have to remove SD card and use adapter to move zip file to root of SD card if PC does not recognize phone with USB cable) and power phone off then power back up holding down power button and volume down button at same time. Phone should go to bootloader then it will recognize the PD98 zip file and ask if you want to istall. Volume up for yes and it will do its thing. No need to try to get into recover phone will do it itself with the PD98 zip file. Zip is (ATT ROM 2.47.502.7 w/Radio - 26.10.04.03_M)
