Currently there is no way to make it go back to locked. If you are sending it HTC for a warranty repair, it is almost guaranteed they will see this and charge you for a new motherboard ($200).

would be sending it into att, not sure if they would sent it to htc though?

Are you just getting a warranty exchange? If so, I wouldn't worry about it. I brought mine into an AT&T store and exchanged it. Wasn't an issue and I told them I tried everything to make the phone work as it is suppose to. If you're worried about it though, you could wait a bit longer and see if the devs come up with a way to remedy your situation.

Did i just brick my phone?

I think i just bricked my phone. I am trying to return to S-on and after following all the instructions in the main sticky, i wrote the SUPERCID back to tmobile, and put in the writesecuflag 3 command, and rebooted the bootloader. Now the phone will not turn on at all. Won't power on regular and cannot turn it on into the bootloader. When i plug the phone into the computer QHUSB-DLOAD comes up in the device manager as to what it is saying it is attatched as. Adb shows no devices and RUU's cannot find the device. Omg i really hope i didnt hose this phone.
Did you flash first the ruu that came with your phone?

Thanks for the replies guys.
Since i got it from craigslist my only hope is paying htc to repair it i'm assuming?
It should still be covered by the original warranty right?

Just got off the phone with HTC. It is still covered under their warranty. Hopefully since all my void stickers in good standing, I have no physical damage, was able to get the CID back to Tmous and the write secureflag3 went through, there will be no reason to deny it. Here is hoping! I think EXT4 recovery is still on there though. Hopefully it will be so bricked that they will have to reset it and reload the software to be able to do anything with it
Hope you manage to get it fixed!
A question, I have yet to root my XE, but is SUPERCID a must on a sim free phone if you want to flash roms?
the fact is that if it is so bricked that it won't turn on at all they won't check it further. many members achieved to get a new phone as replacement
Just make sure you tell HTC you are the original owner and didnt get it from craigslist. Also DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES Mention any hacking forums like XDA,or ROOT, Just claim that it said "an update was available" so you chose to update and the battery died.I've had free repairs under warranty by using that same advice, A friend of mine mentioned root on his nexus one and they charged him for repair even though it was a month old as he voided the warranty

I definitely didnt mention xda or flashing roms or anything, and I told them i received it as an anniversary gift (even though i really did get it from craigslist). Told them i rebooted the phone and it just never came back on. Which really is what happened while leaving out a few details lol.
I wonder what would them HTC guys think if they are already among us
same thing happened to me the other day on my evo 3d...gonna send it in to htc as well...hope they won't know...what are the chances of them getting the phone to turn on??

From everything i read online it really seems hit or miss depending on the technician you get. More often than not they seem to let things slide even if it seems obvious that they should have been able to see it was rooted etc. Here is hoping . I'm gonna send it out tomorrow and will keep this thread updated with developments if anyone is interested in how it went. I have read some HORROR stories about people sending there phone to HTC and it become missing in action for MONTHS. I really pray to christ that does not happen to me.
O/T a little bit, but how come with just about any other "thing" in life a warranty is good and is tied to the object and not to the person. Even though i got this phone off of craigslist, why should that have ANYTHING to do with it. The phone is the phone and the warranty is the warranty regardless of whose possession it is in. I just don't think tmobile should be able to do that. Also i think it's BS that if you buy a brand new phone and it breaks 2 days later, they give you a refurb and not a new one. How do they get away with this ****!
i think im gonna take my chances as well...the person i talked to at htc did say that if the damages were caused by me then i would have a choice to pay them to fix if not i would have to pay $35 to get the phone back...so this could end up costing the shipping to send phone and the $35 to get the phone back.

Just wondering how this has progressed. Did you send your phone to HTC? Did they say what the potential repair costs could be?
Well i sent it out on 12/21 and they received it on 12/28. On the tracking website, it says "In repair". From experience, if it is going to have any issues or gonna charge you any money, it says under review until you have spoke to them and made arrangements or paid them. One thing that is pissing me off good is that every day, the day it says it was received is changed. So everyday i have checked, it went from saying received on 12/28, to 12/29, to 12/30, and now 1/1. So i dont know if that is just the way the system works, or if they are trying to sheist me and take forever and a day like some of the horror stories i have read. Not really sure what their is to do but send a replacement since it is hard bricked and cannot be resuscitated even with professional tools from all the research i have done online. In the meantime, i bought a galaxy s 2 and am LOVING it, except for the lack of development in comparison to here in sensation land!

Sensation 4G Bricked?

Hello, I have an issue where I need to send my HTC Sensation in for repair. However, I had to re initiate S-ON, upon doing so. When I went to reboot, I get a blank screen with nothing showing. I can not even get into HBOOT. I know that if I send this to HTC for repair they are going to see I had S-OFF on this phone, and clockwork recovery. So they are going to charge me for the repair.
Anyone out there have any ideas on how to avoid this at all?
Just to let you know I just seen there was another thread on this and went to T-Mobile and they are sending me out a replacement free of charge except the $5 handling fee. Which is nominal at this point, they even let me use a loaner phone. This might be another avenue that people might be able to persue rather than wait the 6-10 business days for HTC to get done with their phone.

Yup,they are a lot easier to deal with than HTC.I bricked mine on Christmas eve trying to flash an ICS firmware, contacted T-mo and got my replacement 2 days ago.
Got my new one a day later. Thank God that I had insurance on my phone so they replaced it. I told them that an OTA update must have corrupted the Android OS data.

No I did not, that is the mistake that was made. Going to wit for the official launch of ICS before rooting my phone again so I don't have the same issue again.

Poor HTC... It wasn't their fault...
Bricked
Same boat. ROM worked great... Now I'm bricked. Got my replacement today. Gonna wait a few days before sending bricked one to T Mo... Can they tell if I have S Off? Or do I hope for the best... Also in their terms and conditions they "conveniently" sent me it says " tampering or modifying your device is a violation that directly harms T-Mobile which cannot be fully redressed by money damages, and that T-Mobile shall be entitled to immediate injunctive relief in addition to all other remedies available." Should I be scared to send it back to them...? Lol
They don't mind. I had dust under screen and sent it back. I sent them it with miui lol. It came back still s offd but with the latest ota

[Q] AT&T One X bricked/warranty question

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me with my situation. I have an AT&T One X that I rooted and flashed CM10.1, but was having problems with, so I relocked/unrooted the bootloader and restored the factory stock RUU using instructions from a youtube video to 2.20.
I then wanted to update to Jellybean using AT&T OTA software update, but that didn't work so I downloaded the RUU from the official HTC website. Everything was going fine until the end, when it said that the I was finished and the phone would restart. So I stupidly clicked finish and unplugged the phone from the computer, thinking that it would restart on its own. But the phone didn't restart, and I tried to hold the power button, no luck. I tried plugging the charger in, no red notification light came on. I tried holding the down volume button and power button, and that didn't work. I researched some online and it seems that my phone is bricked.
My question is will I be able to go to the ATT store or send it to HTC under warranty (it's been less than a year since I got this phone) for repair/replacement, or is the warranty void even after I relocked and unrooted the phone back to factory stock? If so, is sending it to JTAG it the best option? Thanks a lot.

S-on and SuperCID = brick
Think of it this way if you can't power it on neither can they. It's not quite honest but att shouldn't give you a problem if it's under warranty

If it's truly bricked they won't bee able to tell anyway. And from all reports, at&t don't even care if you messed with the phone. So you should take it in to get it replaced as your first option.

The AT&T store won't help you, unless the phone is less than 30 days from purchase. After 30 days, you need to work through the AT&T warranty department, and send the phone in, unless you happen to have a AT&T device support center nearby.
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB91429&cv=820#fbid=Vcnkfogij67
HTC is much more strict about denying warranty service than AT&T. AT&T doesn't care if the phone is modded, bootloader unlocked, even custom ROM. But in the state your phone is in, they can't tell anyway. They just want to keep you happy as a service customer, paying that montly bill. Recommend you sent to AT&T, not to HTC.
Also, you should have done more reading before running the RUU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181929
Thanks for the info guys. The ATT store sent me to a nearby device support center and they couldn't turn it on and so they replaced it under warranty! Thanks again for the help.

HTC Warranty (Stupid) Question

Hello all,
I gave my phone for my warranty repair. And forgot all about the S-oFF and custom rom deal (I know that was stupid) as I have been off the updates and XDA for my htc one for last 6-7 months. They returned the phone stating that the motherboard had been tempered etc etc..
So my question is if I flash to stock and lock bootloader and S-On and give it back to the HTC Centre for repairs, would they honor my warranty or they are keeping track of the unlocked and S-off devices?
Anyone else gone through this?

i would think that most companies have to keep a record of any device that is sent in, if for no other reason than to track the work being performed on a daily basis.
considering all they did was return it marked modified, i would return it to stock and send it back. seem like the worst that would happen is they return it again unfixed.

returned again with S-On locked stock rom..
but they returned it again unrepaired.. so they do keep track for warranty voided devices.. :crying:

[Q] Should I return to stock for an Advantage repair?

My camera lens cracked and I'm getting a replacement phone via HTC Advantage (the $29) option.
I have Viper installed and am s-off. Should I worry about returning the phone to stock, or will they not care? If it was going to VZW I'd definitely take the effort, I just don't know if it's necessary since it's going to HTC.
Anyone have any experience with this?
Id do it just incase because htcdev is so adimant about saying unlocking bootloader voids warranty
Good point, thanks. Better safe than sorry...
Thats right
I had to send mine in to the HTC repair center last week. Didn't want to take any chances as well. I flashed back to stock, reverted back to S-on, and unrooted my phone to be on the safe side. All went well and I have my replacement phone.
Make sure you s-on before sending it back. They charge $290 for 'repairing' an unlocked boot loader. In my rush to send mine back I forgot to s-on.....yeah not too thrilled.

Those of you that sent the phone back did you choose the next day option? I'm about to undergo the unrooting process before sending mine back, but seems a few of you didn't even bother.

I chose the $19 option, which covers expedited 2 day shipping in both directions. I send in my device, then upon inspection, HTC sends out a replacement device. HTC received my M8, and shipped the new M8 the same day. I received it 2 days later and am quite happy.
I didn't go back to stock before shipping my device. I figured if they *****ed, I would ask them to replace the cracked screen and ship back the same device.
One thing to note is I flashed the "remove red text" mod, so this may have fooled them.
I went with the next-day, $29, option. I did flash it back to stock, relocked, and all. No issues, they have completed the process with no complications.
