You try boot from CWM and choose "install zip from sdcard"?
Sent from my MB865 using xda premium

just boot into cwm and choose install zip from sdcard or whatever it is, then select the zip and it will install.

First of NEVER unzip a rom file if you plan to flash it, because that breaks the signature. You need to go and download it again, and this time leave it zipped.
YOU MUST BE ROOTED!
You will flash it with something called ROM manager. For the atrix2 you will need to go to the development section and get the Atrix2 bootstrap from Here.
You might want to do a little googling about flashing android ROMs to get a little better idea about it. Also NEVER install a ROM for the Atrix2 that you did not get from the Atrix2 development section on here.
There is no linux knowledge needed to flash ROMs.

cwm will flash it without a signature, so as long as you didn't change anything you would be fine

You have to make sure you turn signature checking off in the advanced menu to make that happen though. I have been down that path too many times, and forgot that.

LOL... I just have ROM kitchen do it, if you do the interactive it will ask at the very end if you want to sign your rom... It defaults to yes, so technically it takes longer to type n then return.... LOL...
I have my way that I call the ROM kitchen that does it all without asking me anything, and it zipaligns, deodexes, converts the update/updater-script (let's me make any edits), then creates the ROM, and signs it. I just scripted it all. I also have another one that creates the workspace and converts any image files/fxzs for me and turns them into working folders.

thanks

[Q] Is there an easy way to remove the AT&T boot animation from stock rooted ROM?

I have this ROM: Inspire 4g Stock ROM Optimized--Root, Deodex, zip-aligned, HSUPA, non-market ap....
Is there an easy way to kill the AT&T boot animation when it starts up? I like the stock rom, and I like all the crapware has been removed, but the AT&T Rethink Possible silly animation on this ROM drives me nuts. Any way to remove it?
thanks!
Bella, this thread will likely be moved as it's a question and not development. As your other thread was moved.
Second, it's in System/customize/resource. I wouldn't recommend deleting though, replace it with something else. Loots of boot options on XDA.

OOPS! Sorry I didn't mean to post in here again... my bad. Apologies to the mods.
Can you give me a link to what boot animations I can easily replace it with?
Also, I think related, any way to get rid of the reference to AT&T in the app store? I hate knowing this is an AT&T phone, hehe

Check in the themes and apps sections, they're literally everywhere. Yes you can get rid of the at&t reference in the market but it requires a lot of editing in the build.prop. There was an extra step too but I forget...

Having a little difficulty applying these. If I power down, then press POWER and VOL DOWN to boot into recovery, do I have to wipe or clear cache or just apply zip or how do they work?
Thanks!
Mudknot made it easy for us. In that thread he linked to, download the bootanimation you want from the list that IS flashable through cwm. Boot into clockwork and choose to install zip from SD card. Find the bootanimation zip, select it and then answer yes to the "are you sure" question.

If your using ginger bread then it won't work.. If your using froyo all you will need to do is flash it. You don't want to do a full wipe because it will erase everything. Cache and Devlik are entirely up to you
It won't work on gingerbread because I haven't had time to flash gingerbread, and update the update script.

Just to make sure your using the correct one. The bootanimation.zip files will not flash through cwm. If you are trying to flash them use the ones that say flashable through cwm should be post Number 4. If you want to manually do it. You are going to need a root explorer (ie. super manager, es file explorer, root explorer) you will need to make sure root path is selected and that you have the build mounted as R/W. Copy the bootanimation.zip you want to your sd card (do not unpack it), and copy it with root explorer. From there you are going to want to go into your build (rootpath) and go to data>local>, then you are going to want to past it, agree to overwrite the current bootanimation.zip. Then do a full reboot.

I tried the latter and it didn't work. I'd already tried to flash with the flashable one, so after that didn't work I tried the non flashable, and copied it to that directory, but it didn't change the animation. I'm using the TPC Inspire Stock Rom and even when I followed the above process I'm getting the annoying big TPC boot animation.
I wish I could get around it :-(
Give me a few minutes Ill see what I can do.
I'm currently not able to flash the rom, but I am going to unpack it and take a look see if I can figure out whats up with it.
Do me a favor, in root explorer go to system>customize>resources and tell me if you see ATT_bootanimation.zip.

Modding a downloaded ROM

Im new to the whole ROM thing for Android and has just flashed a few different ROM's to my Rooted Incredible S.
So my question is, if this is OK:
1) Download a custom ROM
2) Extract it to my PC
3) Remove e.g. "HtcTwitter.apk" or "HtcFacebook.apk" from \system\app\
4) Zip it back together and put it on my SD Card
5) Flash the ROM
Will that work?

If you use ClockworkMOD Recovery (I don't know if AMON-RA can) you can turn off sig check.
SO this would work.

I suppose that some ROMs are signed in the same manner as an .APK, but so far I haven't had any issues with opening a ROM zip file in 7-Zip and deleting what I don't want in there and dragging and dropping in what I do (apps, ringtones, etc.)

[Q] newb problem How to rezip a rom

I have googled this alot and have not found any helpful results. I have unziped a rom I like to remove some .apks and add some of the ones I always find myself re-installing. I also have been playing with the build.prop, and the framework. I'm not trying to steal anyones work I just want to have a fresh version of this rom when I go back to it (which I do about once a week). my intent would be to flash, enter my wifi and google passwords, and start using it. I know I can just do a backup and reinstall that, but this has been helpful with my trying to understand how to build a rom and what makes it work. My question being what are the steps to rezip this rom into a flashable update. I have tried dsixda kitchen with no luck, just reziping it, and some other dumb methods. What am I missing here? plz help thank you.
also don't think it matters but this is for a o.g. evo
we got same problem, i edited a working rom for galaxy y (adding and removing some apk) then i was like huh??? what to do next, tried zipping it but doesnt work. hope.someone will reply here.
Sent from my Nokia 3310 running ICS
The problem is the signature verification of the ROM. We sign the ROMS when we create them.
No idea what custom recovery you might use but there should be an option to disable it before you try flashing.
I hope this helps.
No I have cwm and I disabled signature verification, it still starts fine says updating than immediately says its failed

That's what's wrong. You can't zip an entire ROM as a folder then zip that folder. Doesn't work that way.
Open a ROM. See how its packed. You'll have a system folder, data, sdcard perhaps. But that's how you package it.
This isn't as easy as you think. You can't just hack stuff up and expect it to work if you don't do it properly.

No I'm leaving the folders inside the ROM intact. everything is in a folder with all the folders ( data folder, META-INF folder, system folder ect..., and the boot image inside that single folder and then I am ziping all those items in the folder into a zip. I just can't get it to flash it starts then after a second of installation it says aborted.

After reading this more I'm still understanding that the data and meta, system folders are in a folder, then that folder is zipped.
This is incorrect way to package it. The data, meta, system etc needs to be zipped all together as one. Not in a folder that is zipped. Make sense? Hope this explains more.
I'll try that I guess Mabry them all being in a folder is the prob I hope thanks man

Your welcome. Every phone works a little differently but get used to having problems and fixing them. Part of the struggle. And to me the fun. I love troubleshooting.
i think just open the zip (not unzip it)..
when dialog box open,,you can choose the apk or the others you want to delete..
if you want add somthing to zip,,just open the folder location you want add that,,and than drag n drop the file(s)..
thats it..
than close the dialog box..
winrar will ask you to save the change or not,,choose,,save..
its work for me..
P.S.
use the rom by yourself..
as your personal rom..
if you want to publish it,,ask the permit from the devs..

[Q] HELP rooted Nexus S w/ Cyanogen mod 9

I rooted my phone (nexus s i9020a at&t) and have superuser and downloaded rom manager. I had no idea how to figure out how to flash a rom onto my device on my mac so I downloaded one of the many cyanogen mod 9's directly in rom manager. The rom loaded up perfectly and runs smoothly except there is no app market. When I try to go back into rom manager it force quits out.
I am very new to rooting and hacking into my phone and tried searching for hours and can't figure out what to do. If anyone knows how I can just flash a new updated version of cyanogen mod 9 without using rom manager that would be awesome. I really just need a step by step way to do it on the mac because every time someone posts a rom .zip file it downloads as a folder with random stuff in it and in recovery mode in my phone I don't know how to go about flashing it. So confused. Any help would be so appreciated.
Jess
Check your PM. I couldn't post links as it would have been my first post.
cm9 issue
thanks did you get my replies to your pm? i can't figure this out haha
download cm9 and the gapps add-on(with your phone) in the first post of the cm9 thread. boot into recovery, fimd your rom and gapps files, flash cm9 there, then flash the gapps(google apps), then reboot. you do not need rom manager.
Hmm cm9 does not come pre loaded with android app market so u will have to download the latest gapps from other posts in this forum... then copy it into ur phone from ur computer...then after going to cwm recovery use the volume up down buttons to scroll and the power button to choose...u will have to remember where u pasted the gapps file and u will have to navigate to it ...choose the gapps file and scroll down to yes to flash it then go back and reboot...that's it u will now have google apps in ur nexus s...Remember u do not need to open the downloaded gapps zip file as there is nothing u can do by opening it...good luck and happy flashing...

What is that?
If your backup is not recognised you have put it in the wrong folder i think. So tell us, where the files are on your sd card.

Can I go to some website to download the original stock Rom and kernel I need to fix my phone asap so can you please tell me exactly what I need to do. Plus what are those symbols i describe in my last reply. Thanks so much for assisting me I appreciate it.
The files must be in folder: clockworkmod/backup/2013-04-01.18.46.58
The last folder is the date it was created.
The symbols mean, your flash has failed.
What if that doesn't work

Hey man I download that file but its not in zip its in Rar. so I just move the file on to my external sd out in the open not in a folder and I opened up my CWM from the install zip from sd card and that didn't work then I went to restore and it could find the file both times so how do I install it? Do I have to put it in a certain folder or something? It keeps saying no file found. Thanks
Don't copy the zip directly.
What you could do is make a backup, see where it is on your sd, replace it with the one from the zip and then restore that one.
So Noob17_Me, flash this rom from here.

Don't copy the zip directly.
What you could do is make a backup, see where it is on your sd, replace it with the one from the zip and then restore that one.

Yea but what im trying to say is that the file I downloaded isn't in zip form. So how am I supposed to install it on CWM?
Sorry but what is so difficult to understand? The rar is not for flashing, its a cwm backup and if you unrar it you have a folder Clean JB Crkt 2.04.1050.3, inside you find a folder clockworkmod.
This clockworkmod folder you have to copy to SD, like it is and and boot into recovery and choose "restore".
And my zip is made from this backup, so it are the same files!
