[Q] Is there an easy way to remove the AT&T boot animation from stock rooted ROM? - HTC Inspire 4G

I have this ROM: Inspire 4g Stock ROM Optimized--Root, Deodex, zip-aligned, HSUPA, non-market ap....
Is there an easy way to kill the AT&T boot animation when it starts up? I like the stock rom, and I like all the crapware has been removed, but the AT&T Rethink Possible silly animation on this ROM drives me nuts. Any way to remove it?
thanks!

Bella, this thread will likely be moved as it's a question and not development. As your other thread was moved.
Second, it's in System/customize/resource. I wouldn't recommend deleting though, replace it with something else. Loots of boot options on XDA.

OOPS! Sorry I didn't mean to post in here again... my bad. Apologies to the mods.
Can you give me a link to what boot animations I can easily replace it with?
Also, I think related, any way to get rid of the reference to AT&T in the app store? I hate knowing this is an AT&T phone, hehe

Check in the themes and apps sections, they're literally everywhere. Yes you can get rid of the at&t reference in the market but it requires a lot of editing in the build.prop. There was an extra step too but I forget...

Cool, will replace the theme. Thanks.
Anyone know exactly what edits to the prop file are needed to de-AT&T the Android Market?

Having a little difficulty applying these. If I power down, then press POWER and VOL DOWN to boot into recovery, do I have to wipe or clear cache or just apply zip or how do they work?
Thanks!

Mudknot made it easy for us. In that thread he linked to, download the bootanimation you want from the list that IS flashable through cwm. Boot into clockwork and choose to install zip from SD card. Find the bootanimation zip, select it and then answer yes to the "are you sure" question.

If your using ginger bread then it won't work.. If your using froyo all you will need to do is flash it. You don't want to do a full wipe because it will erase everything. Cache and Devlik are entirely up to you
It won't work on gingerbread because I haven't had time to flash gingerbread, and update the update script.

Not using gingerbread, just the ATT stock rom rooted. Flashing the rom in the above post didn't work... is t here a manual way to replace the animation file?
Thanks!

Just to make sure your using the correct one. The bootanimation.zip files will not flash through cwm. If you are trying to flash them use the ones that say flashable through cwm should be post Number 4. If you want to manually do it. You are going to need a root explorer (ie. super manager, es file explorer, root explorer) you will need to make sure root path is selected and that you have the build mounted as R/W. Copy the bootanimation.zip you want to your sd card (do not unpack it), and copy it with root explorer. From there you are going to want to go into your build (rootpath) and go to data>local>, then you are going to want to past it, agree to overwrite the current bootanimation.zip. Then do a full reboot.

I tried the latter and it didn't work. I'd already tried to flash with the flashable one, so after that didn't work I tried the non flashable, and copied it to that directory, but it didn't change the animation. I'm using the TPC Inspire Stock Rom and even when I followed the above process I'm getting the annoying big TPC boot animation.
I wish I could get around it :-(

Give me a few minutes Ill see what I can do.
I'm currently not able to flash the rom, but I am going to unpack it and take a look see if I can figure out whats up with it.

Do me a favor, in root explorer go to system>customize>resources and tell me if you see ATT_bootanimation.zip.

[Q] Can't see Zip files in recovery

after flashing several roms back and foward, I'm having this problem, if I go into recovery I can't see any zip file at all, folders are there, but no zip files, I can still install from Rom manager but not from recovery since i cant find them, Please help
Running Ginger Beast 2.1.2.
But regardless what rom I'm running Zip's are gone
Are they on root of SD card or in a folder? If in a folder, try them in the root. I have never tried with them in a folder, but instructions always say put them on the root so there must be a reason.
they are on root, just can't see them from recovery, but can see and flash from Rom Manager.
I place my ROMs in a folder along with another folder containing kernels and system tweaks, there really is no problem placing them in folders.
I will try that, will let you know
Well guest what I can see them when I place them under a folder! Weird but I guess is another way to do it, I will still like to know why I can't see them on the root.

Try throwing a z in the file name and scroll all the way down while in CWR and see if it appears...maybee you couldnt decipher the right file out of a lot of others.
Folders make everything easier
Nope I always erase old roms from my phone, for some reason they just won't show
Hmm... Well thank you for that bit of info. I had a few roms j downloaded to play around with in folders never tried flashing! I always assumed since they stress placing them on a root there must be some reason! Well I guess the old saying about what happens when we assume holds true! I would thank now but can't from the app. Will do it soon!
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I am not positive why Devs tell people to place them on the root of the SD card, but I have somewhat of an idea...
Many users simply do not know how to work there way around a file system and so they just infer every user doesn't understand and so placing on the root is just the easiest to do.
Yeah that's what I was thinking too... You'd think anybody who could root and use cwm would not be big enough noobs to fail with folder structures. Oh well. Thanks again!

First of NEVER unzip a rom file if you plan to flash it, because that breaks the signature. You need to go and download it again, and this time leave it zipped.
YOU MUST BE ROOTED!
You will flash it with something called ROM manager. For the atrix2 you will need to go to the development section and get the Atrix2 bootstrap from Here.
You might want to do a little googling about flashing android ROMs to get a little better idea about it. Also NEVER install a ROM for the Atrix2 that you did not get from the Atrix2 development section on here.
There is no linux knowledge needed to flash ROMs.

You have to make sure you turn signature checking off in the advanced menu to make that happen though. I have been down that path too many times, and forgot that.

LOL... I just have ROM kitchen do it, if you do the interactive it will ask at the very end if you want to sign your rom... It defaults to yes, so technically it takes longer to type n then return.... LOL...
I have my way that I call the ROM kitchen that does it all without asking me anything, and it zipaligns, deodexes, converts the update/updater-script (let's me make any edits), then creates the ROM, and signs it. I just scripted it all. I also have another one that creates the workspace and converts any image files/fxzs for me and turns them into working folders.
thanks

Did not include Root, in case there's one derp that doesn't want this rooted. If you were rooted, you may need to re-root after flashing this. Preferrably after booting this.
ALSO: I highly recommend complete removal/uninstall of Xposed for safety.
Flash in custom recovery that is compatible with jellybean.(CWM 6.0.2.7+) or TWRP 2.5.0.0
This update.zip will wipe your /cache and /data/dalvik-cache and /preload/symlink/system/app's automagically.
Keep calm as it is extracting and be patient on reboot and enjoy...
This is entire /framework, /system/app and /preload/symlinks only, nothing removed so file size is beefy at 405MB. Also included Books and Videos .apk's from CSC in case they weren't already there.
Try to go easy on my hosting sites so they don't get suspended, I may host it at another if I need to.
Should anything go wrong, simply advanced restore /system only.

I have downloaded your Rom and had a look it it before to flash. I saw that there is no /lib, no /bin, no /xbin and no /etc folders.
Is it intentional? Without the jb libs some apps like let's say Google now won't work. Not that I am a fan of Google but I mean, are you sure that it's ok to flash this Rom?
You are supposed to flash OVER stock ROM. Quite simple really. It is not intended to be a stand alone ROM. I maybe should have made that more clear, edited OP now. Thanks.
Some people think there is slight improvement by deodex/zipalign,
It does help theming/mods, as .odex editing is a pain, I have tried tab UI Mod using odex and it doesnt work, However after deodex I can mod things like Tab UI fairly easy.
Thats the main reason I deodexed these this time, I had to have Tab UI.
I see, so I will have too download stock jb first.
Ok, I 'll do it tomorrow and then I'll report here, because now I'm busy with other stuff.
Thanks for deodexing the Rom, it will save me some time!
Works fine. Thank you.

You need to be rooted, otherwise you should be able to disable them in settings, but not delete them unless you are rooted.

I am rooted. Actually I found a way to do it, I just unzipped your Rom, removed what I didn't need, then repacked it and flashed it.
But in the preload/Internal_SdCard/Samsung folder there are many other unnecessary files like images, sounds and video.
How can I delete them? Because all together they weight like 90 mb..
If youre rooted, grab a real file explorer like root explorer mount system r/w and just delete
Otherwise you might try adb or even terminal, but I suggest a file explorer.
Agree, they are total dead weight.

Strange, my every day file explorer can delete files in data and system but didn't manage to mount rw preload. So I followed your advice and used another one. And I deleted everything of course.
Thanks!
Apart from that the Rom is nice, much better than ics. I had to remove the usual bloatware, more than 150 apks, but that's another story
installed p6210 version on my p6211 and i got once freez, maybe cuz cpu was really in use (downloading, surfing in net) hmm how u think, i will write if this happen again. anyway thanks kris i hope u will build multi window mod too good luck
If the guys over at TAB 2 forums (current WIP) make any progress and have good info/documentation, I'll give it a shot.
Really liking PA (4.2.2) though
Works great man!!! thanks!
Sorry

I know that. I moved the backup on the computer and when I put it on my sd so I could restore it. It didn't work it says no file found do you know where I can download the Original Stock Rom and when i try starting it up it go's to a black screen with a green arrow pointing towards the found then it goes to the phone with a red triangle with a red exclamation point. What is that?
If your backup is not recognised you have put it in the wrong folder i think. So tell us, where the files are on your sd card.

Can I go to some website to download the original stock Rom and kernel I need to fix my phone asap so can you please tell me exactly what I need to do. Plus what are those symbols i describe in my last reply. Thanks so much for assisting me I appreciate it.
The files must be in folder: clockworkmod/backup/2013-04-01.18.46.58
The last folder is the date it was created.
The symbols mean, your flash has failed.
What if that doesn't work

Do I have to put it in a certain folder or something? It keeps saying no file found. Thanks
Don't copy the zip directly.
What you could do is make a backup, see where it is on your sd, replace it with the one from the zip and then restore that one.
So Noob17_Me, flash this rom from here.

Yea but what im trying to say is that the file I downloaded isn't in zip form. So how am I supposed to install it on CWM?
Sorry but what is so difficult to understand? The rar is not for flashing, its a cwm backup and if you unrar it you have a folder Clean JB Crkt 2.04.1050.3, inside you find a folder clockworkmod.
This clockworkmod folder you have to copy to SD, like it is and and boot into recovery and choose "restore".
And my zip is made from this backup, so it are the same files!

[Q] Help? Accidently deleted People APK?

I think I accidentally deleted the people system APK?! I can no longer save contacts. Wondering what the best way to fix this issue would be without flashing back to stock rom. No, it'll reinstall all the system files. If you modified any of them you'll lose that but I doubt you modified any. This will only work if your bootloader is unlocked. If it isn't then you'll lose everything unlocking it.

Do you still need help with this? It's not that difficult to just pull the app and move it into the right system folder. Once you do that, change permissions to match the other apps, and reboot, you should be back to normal. I'll post the apk if you need it.

The APK would be amazing! I haven't been able to find it, I got the System.img that I was going to flash after work, but the APK would be a lot easier! Thanks!!

No problem. I'll have it uploaded in a bit. It's just the People / Contacts apk, right? And you're odexed or deodexed?

You can pretty much just download any ROM available, extract the Contacts.apk file (I think its in system/priv-app/) and put it on your device.

Yes, the People/contacts apk, and I am still stock, just rooted and have an unlocked bootloader, so odexed, I believe.

I tried that with one of the apk's I found, but I couldn't get it to work. I may have gotten a corrupt file though.
Here's a flashable zip in attachment (wipe Dalvik cache just in case) for Contacts.apk (with the .odex file)...
You still have ContactsProvider.apk?

He might not be in a situation where he can download a large file like a complete rom. He did mention being at work. Anyway, these should work:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9903887/Apps/Contacts.apk
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9903887/Apps/Contacts.odex
If you are deodexed, let me know, and don't use just the apk ^ there or it will force close constantly.
Just use a file manager that has root access (ES File Manager is a good, free choice, if you don't have another) and move the app and odex file to:
/system/priv-app
Make sure to change the permissions. The 3 Read options should be checked and the first Write option. If you aren't sure, just read the permissions of another app in that folder and match it. Then just reboot and should be back to normal.

Awesome!, thanks. The only thing I see in my app/system directory that pertains to contacts is the "GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk" I will be attempting to get this fixed when I get home in a couple hours.

You need to change the permissions. If you didnt do that, then it wont work. es0tericcha0s explained it in his last post
