I use 4EXT Recovery Touch (ver. 1.0.0.4 RC3) for my backups.
If you install this on yr phone you can acces it in the boot menu and make complete backups from your whole OS.
When you connect yr phone to yr laptop after you could store the backupfile on your laptop if you like.

I was going to ask the same question.
so, how do I back up my HTC Evo View ROM then keep it on my laptop
and then restore it back into the tablet from my laptop? (if in case I did something wrong while rooting/downgrade it)
CWM backup. Then reboot & copy CWM backup directory via usb connection to your pc.

I've noticed people mentioning running CWM Recovery 5.5.0.x on their i9023, however the CWM website lists 5.0.2.0 as the latest available recovery for i9023.
Where do I get these newer versions and how do I flash them?

Download from (get the crespo image for the Nexus S) and flash it with fastboot.
Start your phone in bootloader mode, connect it to your pc and run
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-crespo.img
for instance.
Or you can use ROM Manager and donate for the Touch-version. Then you can just flash it from there.

That I know. However I have the premium version of Rom Manager but it won't let me flash the touch recovery. It says "error while downloading from server" and that I might not have an internet connection and/or sufficient space on my SD card.

Indeed, they want you to pay again to be able to use the Touch Recovery with ROM Manager, although you can install it manually with fastboot for free. I'm wondering if that will change in the future, because it seems logical to me that the development of the regular CWM will end in a while, and the Touch Recovery will become the default.
Maybe the licenses for ROM Manager Premium will increase in price; we'll see.

R u try flash to HC ?
** If u flashed and found a boot-loop after flash HC, please follow up latest post.
Halp!
Good timing, i have a similar problem.
I was at ICS 4.0.4 rooted then decided to downgrade to HC stock to back it up (since ICS is buggy).. I flashed using odin 3v1.85 using a single file PDA: P6200DXKL3_P6200OLBKK8_P6200DXKK5_HOME.tar.md5. After flashing HC, I'm stuck at bootloop.
Then I have no choice than to flash it up from there, since I can still access recovery 3e.. Firstly i flashed CWM 6 using odin, then tried to update CM10 from my external sdcard. Then this error shows up
Installing: /emmccm-10-20120904-UNOFFICIAL-p6200.zip
Finding update package...
E: unknown volume for path [/emmccm-10-20120904-UNOFFICIAL-p6200.zip
E: Can/t mount /emmccm-10-20120904-UNOFFICIAL-p6200.zip
installation aborted.
BTW I wiped data and cache using CWM. I accidentally formatted the sdcard my real objective is to mount it then I didnt notice.
oyea, tried flashing it using touch cwm, it worked but it boot loops..then i tried acessing recovery but it just went off, and i cant turn it on.
Good thing when i charge it on an outlet the screen goes on then i went to Downloadmode again. I reflashed it back to HC via odin.
NOTE: ( MY tab is ruinned. now the screen won't turn on, only when I'm charging it as previously stated. The only thing i can access is download mode
Thanks in advance :crying: I'm at lost
I have a experiences like this. I try entered to download mode and re-flash my tab to HC with Odin then reboot a device and wipe all user data.
Finally, I'm on CM10. :victory:
Flashing back to ICS fixed the bootloop, then from there it's history!
Though I forgot to copy the cwm backup of my ICS before formatting the sdcard. Now it's gone :silly: . Anyway, it's nice to start off from scratch.
Can someone tell me how to go back to stock HC/ICS from ICS from CM10 without the nandroid backup? Just in case some problems will occur in the future. Thanks!

Thanks mate! I'll keep that in mind.
I just hope bootloop or bootstuck won't occur. Like when I flashed the single HC tar file from sammy from ICS. Cheers!

Hope can, so here the step.
Try flash hc using odin1.85, put the firmware package to pda, check the re-partition. Select pit and put .pit file and flash.

Onething that I'd like to share is you should flash a cusstom rom wwhen you're on Android 3.2. Some friends of mine used the stock Android 4.0 then flashed CM10 or Paranoid and their devices bricked.
although very beautiful and fluid is still immature has many bugs that I at least I consider fundamental for me ... for example, does not read the external sd ... not the video player does not read the pen drive .... well you would for hands just a phone and not a very large smartphone / tablet sfuttare in full ... I have uninstalled immediately expect a more complete version ... more well known problems and then decide to suit your needs if you install it or not. hello ..

I have seen several people have issues with Rom Manager on these tabs, including boot corruption that required using ODIN to reload stock ROM. I don;t use Rom Manager and I would recommend you use Odin to flash the latest CWM instead.

rom manager is a great idea and works good i guess on some devices (i have yet to find one), but i believe it to be on the same list as programs like titanium backup.... possibly dangerous... take digitalMD advise and use recovery for flashing, stay away from flashing anything with an app....

p3113 is a 7" so go to the 7" development thread.
this is the method I used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1788625 except I did a few things different, the 2 files it says to copy to the external SD I copied to the internal storage, I turned on USB debugging before powering off to put the tablet into download mode and I used a newer version of the CWM tar file, that has since been replaced by a CWM zip file that is just for updating the version of CWM you have. attached is the touch version of the CWM that I used when I rooted.
I can't see any reason why you would need an SD card to do this, I have one but thats because this is primarily a music player for me so I need the storage, personally I use the internal storage for ROM zips and things that you flash in CWM.

Ideally PC would be good !!

Most ( not all) recovery apps let you name the file. Are you asking how to find the file? If so, it likely is in a folder named backups. You can move the file to your pc and keep it there if you are out of storage space.

Sorry if I wasn't clear please consider the following situation :
I have around 12 backups of different roms and I dont want to restore each n every backup for sake of simple file or simple thing. So any tool which can read the name of Rom? Probably the buildprop or about phone info will help
Sent from my A110 using Tapatalk
Well, if you gave a single boot system, your recovery should "see" all of those files. If so, you can usb them or copy to a sd card and move them. Just move them back when you need to.

Simply,it is a backup of your OS and settings. It is extremely valuable if you flash a new ROM that doesn't/won't function. Then, you can use your recovery to, well, recover your previous WORKING OS.
When/if you begin to flash new ROMs (and other tools that may corrupt your OS) you should always.first.backup.your.files.
Can I assume I would need to wipe data/factory reset, etc. before I restore the backup?

So, that depends on what your starting config is, what you upgraded to.
For instance, if you are stock and flash a ROM using the stock recovery, then likely yes. You should and you would use the stock bootloader to wipe with.
If you have loaded a new recovery (TWRP, CWM) then read(!) the instructions on the developers page. My example is that on my tablet, once I upgraded to TWRP, I SHOULD NOT use the factory wipe option as that would wipe both TWRP and the backup files. That would cause lots of problems so, don't assume.
Typically, you do need to data/reset/wipe prior to flashing a new or recovering to an old ROM, just be careful what/how you do it.
I have a CWM recovery installed and installed custom Rome before. I have always redid everything again. So a backup would save me a lot of time.

Then, unless the ROM developer states otherwise, you should make backups, wipe data, install ROMs and recover your device using the Nandroid backup.
You likely shouldn't use the "factory" wipe data as that would cause issues.
