Post from the root thread linked to
Post from one of the ICS leak threads (the first leak IIRC)
Skyrocket's One Stop Shop for All Things ICS 4.0!
which is stickied in the dev section (second from the top at the moment) - where I found this link:
[GUIDE]{ROOT}How To Root The ICS Leak
Which gives the same method as the previous thread I linked to.
My previous post was from my phone so I posted the first link I found that I knew worked.

The one-click installs of the ICS leaks do not come pre-rooted. They are stock ROMs with all of the bloat and no root.

Make sure that you have busybox installed. I prefer this installer from the market.
Here is a thread with a video. I have not viewed this or used the instructions it contains, but some people are more visual than others.
Disclaimer: All info found using the forum search tools and is not original thought. I know it is a novel idea to search but darn it - I really like feeling the feeling of independence it gives me! Actually reading the threads/posts is a good way to keep my brain working.
Edit: I used the odin CWM, flash superuser.zip method described in the links above to root both the first and third UCS leaks on my personal phone.
Got it Rooted. Thanks guys...........

Just like the title says. I can't figure out how to root my Samsung Mesmerize now that I upgraded to gingerbread.
I used to use superoneclickroot when it was on eclair and froyo and it worked fine. It not longer works now that I have gingerbread.
Anyone know how to get it rooted?
Thanks in advance !
I bought my phone with gingerbread and I'm looking for somthing too. Nothing out there.

Currently, there is no way for us to root our phones on stock GB. You have to flash a pre-rooted ROM.
Actually I did this and it worked. Flash cwm with Odin then flash this in recovery. Rooted it just fine for me.

A friend of mine just got one of these. Why are there no instructions on how to root these phones?
Slo how does a person root this phone? It has Gingerbread, was purchased 3 days ago.
Thanks
I got my Mesmerize yesterday with GB on it. All I did was grabbed the latest MIUI from miui.us and placed it on the sd. Then I flashed cwm in odin, booted to recovery and flashed the miui zip.

Alright so I am seeing too many things without referenced links to anything. I have odin. I downloaded the flashable_root_package. I have no idea what cwm is.
Can someone please point me to a step by step tutorial? I have been lurking the web for a few days now, with no definitive guide or answers for the Samsung Mesmerize. Thanks in advance for the clarification and help!
There are tutorials on rootzwiki in the mesmerize forum. That's also where all the devs are now due to issues here at xda.

Download that. Put it on your SD Card. Choose Install Zip from SD Card. Install it. It'll give you superuser permissions.
I went to rootz wiki and grabbed the cwm odin file, odin'd that over stock with reboot unchecked and held volume up + volume down + power button. Got into cwm and flashed MIUI and all is working great.

I'm also a noob here and have never done this stuff before. I have a NS with 4.0.3 OTA non-rooted but want to use Google Wallet on it without using any other ROMs. I want to stick with 4.0.3 OFFICIAL.
So all I have to do is root with superoneclick and use the latest su.zip and this should be ok? What is the latest version of superoneclick and su that I should be using for my phone?
Thanks

Dude, also a noob, just came from watching the video.
Where do you get the newer su.zip that supports ICS?
And how do you do it?
Thanks
I am also searching for a way to root and unroot a Nexus S. Where do you find the updated su.zip? I searched through the SOC thread a little bit, but didn't find anything about that.

Go androidsu.com/superuser and download it!
Or search superuser on Nexus S forum.
You can get it from "[Q] Superuser binary updated to support ICS 4.0.3. RM!" thread on NS Q&A.
Hope it works!
Oooh, ok, that's the Superuser app . I thought it was something else. However, within the SuperOneClick\Root directory, there are 3 files.
Superuser.apk
su-v1
su-v2
I assume that I simply have to replace the Superuser.apk and the binary (su) with the newest ones. But which su file do I have to replace within the SOC\Root directory? su-v1 or su-v2?
---------- Post added at 12:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 PM ----------
Hm, well it seems it does not matter after all. SOC hangs at Step #7 when trying to root the device.
Hello forums. I'm sure I'm not the only one with the problem and I've spent some time looking but no avail in finding a solution. (most likely because I'm unfamiliar with the forums) So getting to the point.
I rooted my Samsung Galaxy SII LTE (rogers) using superoneclick. After rebooting my phone I've noticed a LOT of lag when it comes to scrolling through pages, using/loading apps, and even using the back, home, and search "buttons" on the front. Is there a solution to this? I would greatly appreciate the help.
I've never used one click root but rooting shouldn't cause lag like that. I would personally just flash a new rom rather than go through all the trouble to track down the cause. Do you have clockwork installed yet?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Yeah root does not cause that . You should freeze your bloatware, and try a custom rom like red sonja

Haven't done anything after the root. I originally rooted it so I can hook up my sixaxis controller to it but after hearing what else you can do with your phone I think I'm going to follow that route instead. All I want to do right now is get rid of the stock apps that I don't need, get the sixaxis working on the phone (I've read the Cyanogenmod kernal can do that for me)
But I'd be more then happy to test out new roms from time to time, so first thing is first. What is the easier way to go about Backing up my entire phone so I can restore it to that state?
Haven't installed clockwork yet. What does it do and how do I install it? I'll try and find the links on my own when I have some time but I'm just heading out to work soon (horay for double time and a half) or you could be a trooper and help a noob out.
Edit: So I've figured out what clockwork is and its asking me which phone I'm using, doesn't list my phone there so I just want to make sure choosing the tmobile samsung galaxy sII is alright despite having a rogers SSG S2 LTE

I tried freezing some but I've already managed to freeze something that causes my apps to force close whenever I open it. Is there a list of the bloatware that I can safely freeze or delete?
I'll be looking into which rom I will go with first but for now I'm going to read up about it before I do anything else. Don't want to brick my phone a week into buying it.

Just one question, if I I've had enough of red sonja in the background of my apps and everywhere else is there a way I can remove the comic book theme on the phone while keeping the rom working?

So after trying the ice cream sandwich I think it's alright and now I'm off to take sonja out for a ride. If I backup the current rom play around with lovely lady in red would I be able to just switch between roms after backing them up?
If you boot into cwm. Click backup/restore and backup your current setup then flash red sonja. And do the same think. You can go back into cwm and restore your nandroid backups anytime you want. Just remember to wipe first. But yeah you can switch back and forth and it will take you to exactly how you were set up in each backup

Now that the Infuse is updated the firmware version is: 2.3.6 with baseband version: I997UCLB3

The kernel is different in numbers compared to the UCLB3 leak

+1 Need to know how it can be rooted! I'd imagine the kernel has to be reflashed - need to know which is the proper one to use.
I also can report that the Kernel is:

But I was under the impression we were already using UCLB3 modem since quite some time now. I know this is not a modem but a ROM, but still...

Don't upgrade to this unless you have a solid plan on how to root or install CWM.

Thanks, I thought it was only Linux. I googled & found the Windows version!
You can also use Odin (ex. Gtg's unbrick)...but yes I used Heimdall today to flash the one click B3 and DD kernel for root and cwm, cake walk...
Also, I unbricked back to froyo from zues to flash the official update; froyo had an immense amount of lag, I flashed official GB and it was surprisingly smooth. I guess I was used ppl's negative opinions of B3

How was qkster one click crappy?
The one click is ment to get the user back to stock or “unbrick“..and or to get a custom rom on the phone....so what you´ve might of said was being on stock was crappy? Qkster like others have put a lot of time and great efforts to share thier work....

Actually it depends on what version you use. The Incubus version can be flashed by placing it on your SD card and booting into your custom recovery.
If you do it this way you will not lose root either.
Before you ask the only modification Incubus made was to root & Odex
I have been running the leak since he posted it yesterday morning. I have no issues but as always mileage varies from device to device.
If it really is true that the version in this thread can't be rooted with current methods, then I would stay away from it. You never know when root will be restored so you could be stuck with a locked device for some time.

You kidding? We got the leak this morning. Roms have already been built 12 hours earlier then this thread. Do you think people are really excited about the factory image? People want Roms that they can flash.
