[Q] Can u root Nexus S with superoneclick? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title says it all
lol im noooooob
i liked the video vm

Yes..I can

Yes u can but u should to replace su.zip with the newer one that supports ICS.
Sent from my Nexus S

Ok Thanks!

I'm also a noob here and have never done this stuff before. I have a NS with 4.0.3 OTA non-rooted but want to use Google Wallet on it without using any other ROMs. I want to stick with 4.0.3 OFFICIAL.
So all I have to do is root with superoneclick and use the latest su.zip and this should be ok? What is the latest version of superoneclick and su that I should be using for my phone?
Thanks

Dude, also a noob, just came from watching the video.
Where do you get the newer su.zip that supports ICS?
And how do you do it?
Thanks

I am also searching for a way to root and unroot a Nexus S. Where do you find the updated su.zip? I searched through the SOC thread a little bit, but didn't find anything about that.

Go androidsu.com/superuser and download it!
Or search superuser on Nexus S forum.
You can get it from "[Q] Superuser binary updated to support ICS 4.0.3. RM!" thread on NS Q&A.
Hope it works!

Oooh, ok, that's the Superuser app . I thought it was something else. However, within the SuperOneClick\Root directory, there are 3 files.
Superuser.apk
su-v1
su-v2
I assume that I simply have to replace the Superuser.apk and the binary (su) with the newest ones. But which su file do I have to replace within the SOC\Root directory? su-v1 or su-v2?
---------- Post added at 12:42 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:05 PM ----------
Hm, well it seems it does not matter after all. SOC hangs at Step #7 when trying to root the device.

No. I just installed the APK then went to whatismyflash.com and it matched with the new version.
It's still buggy, though. You can't pan around on a webpage if your finger is inside flash content, and when you zoom in or out flash content flickers. Also, you cant pinch to zoom in full screen.
DamageControl (3.1 I believe, eclair version) had flash 10.1 and none of these problems, not to mention it was faster.
Quick question, can this be updated to match the hulu hacked one some off us currently have running. I really would like to update, but know I will lose hulu...
Any info on an updated one floating around here on xda?

Hey I'm also on fresh 3.1.0.1.. you have to manually remove it via ROOT EXPLORER. Then REBOOT. Then install the APK that was posted here via mediafire.
I'm now on the latest flash. I noticed the last few numbers of the version are higher..so its definitely newer. I DID NOT find it on the market though.

You have 10.1 already because it comes pre-installed on Froyo. However our versions are still in Beta and this new update takes them out of Beta.

well within RE..i searched : " flash" it found it and I deleted the apk..then rebooted..
you have to tell RE to "mount as R/W ( read/ write) to be able to delete system apps.
so again, after you do that , you reboot and now you can simply install the new apk

What is this rom manager you speak of? I've never heard of a working rom manager for this device. Does rom manager work? Perhaps the answer is posted here somewhere?

No. Not yet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305560
For GB, just flash (oden/heimdall/heimdall one-click) any gb kernel in the dev forum and you should get CWM (unless the kernel is a fully stock kernel, like the first one in my one-click collection).
A little lecture could help you. This has been answered like 100 times a day.
Use latestodin, flash ravers kj6 odin rom (yes, you have to be in dl mode and rom file goes in pda and i think you need to decompress the .zip file so u use the .tar) and after that just flash drhonk kj1 kernel so you can get root and cwm. Then you can flash gb roms without problem.
Theres a big post saying that Rom Manaher doesnt work wotj raver.
actualy rom manager has a Galaxy s 4G setting now so yes it does work

Also, tehgyb gave you all the good links (thanks man!)
Instead of insisting on using rom mangler, you should listen and read.
If all you want is clockwork mod + root + gb, just heimdall one-click my kj6 kernel and stock rom... The link that says: Download SMS KJ6 Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders
After you run that, you can flash roms with CWM (not rom manager) as you wish, and you will always have root with that kernel.

Revolver or Android Revolution HD?

Hi all!
I,ve recently updated to ics and rooted my transformer. Now, I´m thinking about flashing a ROM, but I don´t know what ROM works better on it. I´m considering flashing Revolver (the ics version beta 1.2) or the Android Revolution HD 3.0.1, but its the first ROM I flash and I am not pretty sure.
Could you guys tell me your opinion about these ROMS?. Which works better?
Titanium backup is your friend. Try different ROM to see what you like.
I say try the EOS ROM
You really just need to read the bug lists and the threads for these ROMs and make a decision on your own..try them all, then decide. FWIW, the devs who create these ROMs are members here and I dare call them friends (or close associates) of us all and one-another, therefore it's impolite to ask 'which is better' if you catch my drift. It's like friends comparing who makes more money...it's just generally impolite IMO. But, that's just my opinion
Stick around for a while and you might just be able to call them 'friend' one day too
Definitely try them out.
Back in October when I first rooted I was swapping back and fourth between Prime, ARHD and Revolver.
In the end I settled on Revolver for a few reasons. I have many other TF users who settled on one of the other builds for a different reason.
ARHD and Revolver for ICS are both excellent. I will say you will want to do Revolver 4.0.0 Beta 1.3 and then update to 1.3.1 vs. just using 1.2.
Just back up your system with Titanium. THen do a full wipe in CWM and install a ROM. Play with it for a while, then try another (with a wipe in between).
I am currently rockin out the TeamEOS Cornerstone ROM. Not as stable as Revolver or ARHD, but I love the multi-tasking.

Try them all! It's really easy to flash. Takes literally 4 steps.
1. Download ROM, check MD5 sum
2. Superwipe
3. Flash using Clockwork Mod Recovery
4. Reboot!

Wow man I know the feeling Been trying to fix it all day. I had to end up taking it to Computer specialist and hopefully by tommorow will come up with a solution. My problem is worse than the people that can up with solutions becuase the retarded 5.5 version of CWM in combination with Cm9 doesnt allow adb or cold booting. So you cant push adb because when you connect the prime to any comp with the drivers installed It doesnt allow the comp to communicate with the tablet. All becuase I didnt have the latest touch paid CWM and all started after I made my nandriod last night.
If anyone has any info please let me know.

Radios??

Hi there. Recently my shift has been amazingly slow. In areas that I used to be able to download at very fast speeds, I'm getting 6.1 kB/s. That's not reasonable, especially because I use my phone heavily. I researched this problem and saw that it may be a problem with my radio being old. Could anyone refer me to a guide to flashing radios? And will the radios be compatible with my rom? I'm running CM7.2 RC3. Thank you in advance.

That's a ton of work for a radio. The shifts radios aren't tied to your hboot so just extracting the radio and making a PGzip and flashing it in bootloader makes the most since if your s-off.. It's dangerous like anything flashed from bootloader but that should be common sense to any rooted user.
IF YOU DO THIS, DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK,AND DONT BLAME ME FOR BRICKS.understand what your doing before you do it

Yeah I realized that there is a much easier way to do it...theres a rooted version of the 2.77.651.8 update floating around somewhere, just get that zip, rename to PG06IMG.zip and put it on the root of your sdcard (then reboot to bootloader to install). When it's done installing just reboot, then boot into recovery and flash your CM7 rom again.
EDIT: The rooted stock is HERE
Thank you for the help. But also, what are the things that can go wrong? It's my first time flashing a radio and I do not want to brick my phone at any cost.

Okay to get the radio don't use my posted ota.
Your going to need the RUU.exeand windows and once it's downloaded open it up, but don't touch anything open run from start menu and type %temp% and it will open a window with the temp location of the RUU. Grab ROM.zip and drag it to your desktop and close the window and RUU. Inside ROM.zip is the radio hboot system.img boot.img ect. Thats where i would get the radio. Then make your PGzip and flash from bootloader. The risk of bricking is when you flash a radio not meant for your device or if it's corrupt so be careful and read read and read to be sure of of what your doing
