Well, as long as it's MicroSD you can use any size. But I don't think 32gb is available yet.

Officially supports upto 32gb....but I wouldn't put anything larger than 16gb on it.

Yes. someones already done a sd to micro sd adapter hack to their touchpro and used a 32 gig sd card then. Too bad they cost 100 bucks for just a ribbon and card holder. id be tempted to use my spare back and make the same up.

you want Power? when I first got my Kaiser, I brought it back to Vietnam to show off... then I got kicked in the butt by my little cousin who own a Nokia Vertu Ferrari edition... The phone is not a touch screen, nor have all the functions as my Kaiser and he only have a 2GB card in it... but it cost him $11k
I really don't understand why 32GB... I only use 3GB on my 8GB microSD. if the phone graphic performance is as good as the Iphone, then I wouldn't mind having a big microSD card in it to play DVD movies... but not on this phone. The graphic drivers are just not good enough for it.
Well, I have a 16gb in my fuze, and everyone is impressed with the sliding KB, Tv-out, vga, BT Audio, gyrator2, scroll wheel, etc. Plus, I let my daughter at UNC-CH (Junior) take it for a few days, and it's a real guy-magnet, not that she really needs it, of course. (She normally uses a tilt)
BTW-- All in fun!!!!
32G for music and media man. That's why. My friend has an Iphone and thinks it's the jam. But my Fuze, once I find a 32G will put his Iclone to shame.

I mean a converter that will allow you to use a standard SD card into a micro sd slot...it will most likely be made of an external connector for the standard SD card then wire it down to a micro sd slot..
I work for an electronics manufacturing company and I may be able to convince my boss to do a test line of a couple...
But before I ask I wanted to see if there is any interest???
I have a Nexus one and really do not want to keep waiting for the 32GB Micro SD...then I do not want to pay $200.00 for it.
So i am thinking if people are interested a converter that can hold a standard SD that is no more that 4MM thick then you can shop around for a 32GB standard SD card for about $75.00 and have 32GB of storage for your nexus or other device...
Again just checking for input...

Hi tomfreay I was was thinking about that...it may have to be something that mounts on the outside of the back cover...if it can be made to be flush against the back cover...I envision a small "bump" on the back...
I use a clear silicone case for my phone so I do not think it will look to bad....
Or I can buy a Seidio extended battery and case..this should allow me to hide the converter inside...but I think it may look worse than just having a little standard SD size bump on the back of the phone...
I will ask my boss to explore one then take pictures of the finished product and post...

Can't see any kind of converter fitting well with the phone and still looking good. Also it would probably reduce transfer speeds to/from the card.
At this stage I can't say I'd recommend getting a 32GB Micro SD card for that matter. Better to stick with one that has a smaller capacity/higher data transfer speed if you don't want to slow down gallery/music apps etc - something between 4GB and 16GB.

DUDE. Seriously. How many times do people have to be told that a PHONE will not be able to saturate a Class 2 (which has a MINIMUM of 2MB/s NOT MAXIMUM) MicroSD card. Classes, DO NOT MATTER when the phone can only access the card as fast as the chipset can. I had a Class 6 with Apps2SD and a Class 2 16GB with Apps2SD and there was NO DIFFERENCE even with the biggest movie file I could play.
Why the crap would you think that less than 1 inch of copper would slow down the transfer rate to anything you can see?? GIVE. ME. A. BREAK. I have 2 METERS of USB cord AND a 2 inch USB cord hooked up to a portable harddrive, and they have IDENTICAL speeds with the same hardware, why would you be able to tell the difference on a phone where that is not even close to being a bottleneck.
Listen, this is important: SD Card Class will NEVER be a bottleneck for any media on our Nexus Ones.

Nice Job. DocRambone was going to try this with the 3200mAH battery and cover but I dont know if he was successful.
The custom back-cover that comes with it should have room for this.

Hi Britoso..I was think about putting out the money for the 3200mAH battery...but then I found the case for it was too big...
The mod that I did is something that I think a lot of people can live with..its not ugly..the crystal case fits...and the grip of the phone has changed a little..I find it feels a little better.
Forgive my ignorance I have been on this site for several years now and still do not know everything...what do you mean by "OP"..set me straight and I will place the pictures there..

Again with this mod the cover slides off like it should...I put a small slit in the cover for the flex cable...and placed protective tape on both sides of the flex cable to prevent damage.
So at the most I just have to buy a new back cover and return the phone to OEM condition.
Oh I did shaved the battery a little by the MicroSD slot area...
If anyone is really interested in this converter let me know...like I said...$200.00+ for a 32GB Mirco SD card...I have seen them selling for $395.00..no way I say.
This mod ran me $82.00 for the 32GB standard class 10 card and $35.00 in parts.. Grand total of $117.00 for massive storage...I say the little bump on the back is worth it..phone can quickly be restored to OEM..
Maybe in 1.5 years from now when 32GB MicroSD cards come down to earth....I will get one..then I will just use my 32GB Class 10 Standard SD in a HD camcorder...

BTW, "class" on a (micro)sd card is for measuring _write_ speed only. Hence playing a video will test precisely nothing relating to it's class rating.
And yes, the N1 can saturate the write speed on a Class 2 card _very_ easily.

I bought a Kingston 16GB Class 10 card from ebuyer.com and it is no faster than my original Kingston 16GB Class 2 card. So I contacted Kingston support and guess what they said? "Please note that means the minimum read speed have to be with the class 10card at least 10MB/s". Thats £80 down the drain - WTF!!!?
The SD Card Association (www.sdcard.org) states that "Speed Class and UHS Speed Class provide the constant speed necessary for video recording by designating a minimum writing performance". I have pointed this out to Kingston and am now awaiting a response.
So regardless of the often reported compatibility issues with Desires, I suggest that you look elsewhere for your speed fix.
SD Cards and speed tests have been covered a countless number of times on the forum, i dont understand why you went out and bought a class 10 for a htc desire and assumed you would get blistering speeds from general use
My speed tests have been carried out in Windows on my PC. My point is less about how it works on the Desire and more about how it is almost identical in performance to a Class 2, and also Kingston's crappy attitude.
That said, I use RCMixHD and some of the Rom is stored on the card so yes, I did hope to see some benefit.
Do some research before you buy. Complaining afterwards it not beneficial to anyone.

I am truly confused by your response!
The card does not perform in accordance with the advertised standard. The manufacturer then mis-quotes the standard. So I decide to inform other people who might make the same mistake.
In what way is that not beneficial?

If it had been bought from eBay or second hand then maybe I would have. But ebuyer.com is a long standing and reputable supplier and secondly, Kingston haven't suggested it as a possibility and prefer to suggest that the performance is acceptable.

Which kernel is your desire running as i recall there being patched kernels to increase sd card speeds by almost 3x. Not too sure if it is a bug fix or an enhancement.

That's not quite all of the story - the class is the minimum writing speed you should get in absolutely ideal conditions - i.e. one large file on a completely unfragmented card. In the real world, you may well get lower speeds, especially if your card is nearly full and/or you are writing many small files.
I've been using SanDisk 16GB Class 2 cards in both my Desires for months, and they've performed just as well as my Transcend 8GB Class 6. There's no way on this planet I'd buy a Class 10 card to stick in a phone - as far as I'm concerned they are really for the semi-professional DSLR/HD Video market.

My testing us carried out under such ideal conditions, using Crystal Disk Mark, using one large file, on freshly formatted partition using 4, 8, 16 and 32 cluster sizes. The Wikipedia page also states that the write speed should be achievable on fragmented drives, but I'm still only achieving 7MB/s write.

Excuse me, I misread. Class certainly indicates write speed. From Wikipedia 'The Speed Class Rating is the official unit of speed measurement for SD Cards, defined by the SD Association. The Class number represents a multiple of 8 Mbit/s (1 MB/s), and it measures the minimum sustained write speeds for a card in a fragmented state [10].'
I would demand a new item as advertised or your money back.

I thought the idea of XDA was to help each other not to use it as a portal to vent some anger at some poor person!
Sound like they have grossly mis-sold the card there! I get that speed on the phone itself with a class 6 card (also a kingston btw).
I would be very suprised if it is a fake from ebuyer!

I am aware of this issue and I have been using a "read ahead" fixed kernel for a while. But the problem is not with the Desire specifically, as the card under-performs in a PC too.

That's an interesting read, thanks. Kinston asked for the serial number and they didn't say it was fake, so I see no reason why it would be (and it probably performs too well to be a fake!).

Then Wikipedia is wrong! Not wholly unusual for Wikipedia either.

If I were you, I'd also test again using a different card reader and/or PC before assuming it's the card at fault. If you are getting 7MB/s it's certainly not far off class 10 minimums (which makes it less likely to be a fake IMHO), but you also need to ensure that the bus you are testing over can actually sustain higher speeds.

I bought a kingston class10 16gb card and I must say I'm really impressed with the data rates. around 12Mb/sec writing. (haven't tested read yet => is there a special utility app to perform this test straight on the phone ?)

Yes, that is what Kingston have now suggested too. They have dropped their claim that the Class rating covers only the read speed and have also offered to replace the card directly. It is entirely possible that my internal card reader is the issue so I will have to find another device to test it on.

I tested on a PC as I do not know what the capabilities of the Desire are, i.e. can it actually read and write at over 10MB/s. But yes, there are a couple of utilities in the Market, one called SD Card Speed Tester.

when transfering from a computer to the phone (which is mainly why i bought this card), i get 12Mb/sec data rate write. I just tested with the sd card speed test on my phone, and i get W=3mb/s, R=4mb/s, which is clearly much slower than what i get when transfering from my computer. I'm thinking android has a lame way of accessing the sd card....

In Android, my Kingston 16GB Class 2 card achieves 4MB/s W and 15MB/s R with SD Card Speed Test.
I also test with SD Card Tester, a 100MB file achieves 3MB/s W and only 2MB/s R whereas a 3MB file achieves 5MB/s W and only 1MB/s read.
All very erratic. That's why I don't test within Android.
RESOLVED! Kingston had suggested that these new Class 10 cards were exceeding the capabilities of the i/o device so I tested the card on different hardware at work and the results are very different:
Sequential Read @ 20MB/sec;
Sequential Write @ 12MB/sec.
It is a shame that Kingston had to begin by denying that the card was even capable of these write speeds as this could have been resolved much sooner. But credit where it's due, this is a stonkingly quick memory card!

So I'm thinking about buying the Moto X Style/Pure Edition, but I'm coming from a 64 GB OPO, so 16 GB isn't really going to cut it. To be economical I'm thinking about getting the 16 GB variant and adding an SD card. I haven't used an SD card with Android for years though, and I know a lot has changed. Performance-wise is an SD card going to be significantly worse than internal memory, and am I likely to run into lots of instances where apps won't let me install to the SD card? I install a lot of apps and also use a good amount of storage space for Google Play Music downloads.
I would say it depends on what you used that 64GB for. If you have a lot of big apps, 16GB isn't going to cut it. Even if you have a few, it'll be tight. If you keep movies or TV shows or a big music library on there, an SD card will do fine.
This of course will change in Android M which merges SD and internal memory. I still wouldn't recommend less than 32GB internal if you're coming from a 64. SD memory is inherently slower than internal, so just bear that in mind when you consider what you need the memory for. It'll playback a movie fine, but if you're putting apps on there it'll slowdown somewhat.

I'm curious. I did a lot with my Note 3-4, V10, and V20. I never noticed any lag in anything running from SD card. I had a 200Gig card in the V10 and V20 and am not sure what was the issue with the SD cards. If anyone can explain what the issue was, I'd be really grateful.

I'm curious. I did a lot with my Note 3-4, V10, and V20. I never noticed any lag in anything running from SD card. I had a 200Gig card in the V10 and V20 and am not sure what was the issue with the SD cards. If anyone can explain what the issue was, I'd be really grateful.

The 32GB is just barely enough for my storage needs for things that can't be moved to the SD card. It was totally unusable for VR since that can't be put on the SD card. Giving out free Gear VR's with a 32GB phone was pretty silly actually. Luckily we still had an s6 with 128 to use the Gear with.
When any storage medium gets more than haf full you start to notice slow downs. It's MORE obvious on mechanical hard drives but it's still noticeable on ssd's an other solid state storage. It's definitely noticeable on the s7. I've done tests where I reset it instal just a few apps and it's BLAZING FAST, then I install my apps, email, texts, etc, fill it up, and bam it's a slug.
I spent 6 months COSTANTLY screwing around with moving things from the storage to the sd card. It's a tedious and annoying thing to have to do. Having come from the s6 with 128 and never needing to even thing about storage it really pissed me off to have to go backwards on my next gen phone.
So then I finally caved in and did adoptable storage. Well the thing is the internal storage is FAST until you fill it - it's still fast, but you do notice a lot of lagging just going from screen to screen. It clocks in the mid 200MBs. But the SD card is slow. I bought a UHS 3 card hoping it would match the internal ram. The card clocks at 280MBs in a uhs 3 usb 3 reader. It clocks in the 80's in the phone when it's empty. More like the 40's when it's filled with photos and music.
So doing adoptable storage means mixing a single volume with 280MBs and 80MBs storage. Which makes the phone EVEN Slower, but at least I don't have to screw around with moving stuff constantly anymore.
The thing is that people clamored for sd storage. I have no idea WHY they clamored for it. It's beyond inconvenient. It's not like you can pull it in and out since it's on the sim tray. And Samsung decided that in order to include it they had to stop making larger storage versions.
I think what we have is a case of be careful what you wish for.
It's far better to have larger FAST internal storage and a FAST usb connection than it is to have the stupid sd card.
That's my rant on this, but here's the bottom line summary:
1. The 32GB is incredibly inconvenient if you are heavy user like me with lots of stuff. Micromanaging the storage makes the phone a chore to use, and the full card slows the phone down a little bit.
2. Using adoptable storage is more convenient, but the slow SD slot makes the phone really really laggy - at least for a heavy user like me.
I've put my s6 128 next to my s7 edge with adoptable storage, and the s6 is way more responsive. I just can't go back to that small screen!! LOL

oooohhhh, now it all makes sense. Thanks. I always used the 200Gig card so I never ran out of space. Then again, never used VR. I will now I guess with the new stuff from Samsung.

I've never run out of space on the sd, but there's only certain things that can be put there, so it was always half empty with like 29-31 GB of stuff clogging up the internal storage.
The s7, for people like me, made you choose between convenience and speed. That's frustrating for a phone that came out in 2016. Especially when the 64 or 128 s6 gave you the best of both worlds.
I feel like the 64 in the s8 will be enough that if I fill it it will only be every few months so less maintenance. If it has a uhs 3 reader and does adoptable storage then it's the best of every possible world. Maximum options for the maximum number of use cases.
I saw a Tested.com podcast once where they brilliantly slammed the s7 and the iphone at 32GB. They pointed out that these are the two specific phones where the least technical people are going to buy, and in the end, they are the two phones that will need you to mess with them if you take a lot of pics or download a lot of music. Meaning that for a less technical person, it's better to have the larger storage and that Apple and Samsung needed to raise their bottom number in order to not cause grief for their most common customer: the less technical user who buys the lowest price one because they don't know any better.
I get a LOT of calls from IT customers asking me to help them figure out how to get stuff off their 32 GB iphone or Galaxy because it's full. I hate that call. I didn't get into IT to babysit customer's personal music collection.

I think I just lucked out that both the V10 and V20 both had 64G of memory.

This thread is about the speed of the SD Card port, not the SD card itself.
Sorry, misunderstood. tried 3 different sd cards and they all fail in the passmark bench marking- unable to write..
fwiw a1 sd bench gives
73.9 read 51.1 write with the u3 card

As usual they don't seem to be able to clearly mark the speed of anything. I have a Sandisk Extreme Plus, rated at 95mb read, 90mb write. But it says U3 and V30 on it. Which according to that table can only do 30mb (except it DOES do 95/90), this is due to the quoted speeds for V30 etc being minimum speeds and not set speeds.
Most people also get confused over U3 speeds and UHS III bus type (which has a second row of pins to enable faster speeds but most devices do not support), the UHS III bus has only recently been agreed apparently (https://petapixel.com/2017/02/25/uhs-iii-sd-card-standard-announced-maxes-insane-624mbs/) and there are no cards out yet for it, so youll only get UHS II at best on the S8 and theres no way the S8 will support UHS III. Whether it even supports UHS II, I don't know, it really shouldn't be that hard to tell since it requires a whole extra row of pins but I have seen a dozen threads in forums asking the same question and not a single answer so far, someone even asked Samsung support and as expected, they were useless.
It's like the USB-C/USB3.0/USB3.1 all over again where you need to be a detective to work out whether you get usb 3.0 speeds, 3.1 gen1 speeds (5gbps) (which are often also referred to as 3.0) or 3.1 gen2 speeds (10gbps) (which are often referred to as just 3.1) from a particular cable or device. When these geniuses setting these standards are incapable of even getting the NAMING of these things right, you know we are in trouble!

That's because the naming is done by marketing committee. More concerned with fancy pointless marketing names than really conveying what the technology is capable of. The 'name by committee' factor is in full effect too.

Then they should all be sacked for being useless at their jobs. Marketing is pointless if you create endless confusion for consumers (not to mention the opportunity for scam sub standard products taking advantage of the stupid ambiguous naming). Rule number 1 should be crystal clarity on 'spec x = speed y' with no possible confusion between spec x y or z!

It's a minimum of 30MBps. you can probably hit 90MBps if you transferred 1 file that's over 90MB. It would be considerably slower if you transfered 90000 1kb files. Same with all storage mediums.
