SD to MICRO SD Converter Mod - Nexus One Accessories

Hi Everyone,
As it is taking so long to get real 32GB Micro SD's on the market I was wondering if anyone would be interested in buying a SD to MICRO SD converters.
This converters will not be just some wires solder together...but a converter that is nicely packaged.
Provide me with some feedback on the idea.

umm, how could that possibly work? you can't convert something so its smaller

Well maybe I did not state it correctly...
I mean a converter that will allow you to use a standard SD card into a micro sd slot...it will most likely be made of an external connector for the standard SD card then wire it down to a micro sd slot..
I work for an electronics manufacturing company and I may be able to convince my boss to do a test line of a couple...
But before I ask I wanted to see if there is any interest???
I have a Nexus one and really do not want to keep waiting for the 32GB Micro SD...then I do not want to pay $200.00 for it.
So i am thinking if people are interested a converter that can hold a standard SD that is no more that 4MM thick then you can shop around for a 32GB standard SD card for about $75.00 and have 32GB of storage for your nexus or other device...
Again just checking for input...

I'd would be interested, but I don't think there is going to be enough room to fit it and still put the back on!

Hi tomfreay I was was thinking about that...it may have to be something that mounts on the outside of the back cover...if it can be made to be flush against the back cover...I envision a small "bump" on the back...
I use a clear silicone case for my phone so I do not think it will look to bad....
Or I can buy a Seidio extended battery and case..this should allow me to hide the converter inside...but I think it may look worse than just having a little standard SD size bump on the back of the phone...
I will ask my boss to explore one then take pictures of the finished product and post...

Someone has done this already with one of the convertors already available

OK...so where can I buy one? And how much?

32GB Micro SD cards are available and have been for a month or two at least - check out http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=...esult_group&ct=title&resnum=3&ved=0CDgQrQQwAg
Can't see any kind of converter fitting well with the phone and still looking good. Also it would probably reduce transfer speeds to/from the card.
At this stage I can't say I'd recommend getting a 32GB Micro SD card for that matter. Better to stick with one that has a smaller capacity/higher data transfer speed if you don't want to slow down gallery/music apps etc - something between 4GB and 16GB.

DUDE. Seriously. How many times do people have to be told that a PHONE will not be able to saturate a Class 2 (which has a MINIMUM of 2MB/s NOT MAXIMUM) MicroSD card. Classes, DO NOT MATTER when the phone can only access the card as fast as the chipset can. I had a Class 6 with Apps2SD and a Class 2 16GB with Apps2SD and there was NO DIFFERENCE even with the biggest movie file I could play.
Why the crap would you think that less than 1 inch of copper would slow down the transfer rate to anything you can see?? GIVE. ME. A. BREAK. I have 2 METERS of USB cord AND a 2 inch USB cord hooked up to a portable harddrive, and they have IDENTICAL speeds with the same hardware, why would you be able to tell the difference on a phone where that is not even close to being a bottleneck.
Listen, this is important: SD Card Class will NEVER be a bottleneck for any media on our Nexus Ones.
Ya, true; my converter looks terrible, but it fits under a very nice looking Casemate Vroom Case perfectly I would totally recommend one if you're going to get a MicroSD to SD.

Hi Everyone,
I have posted some pictures of my SD to MicroSD Converter and how it looks once it is installed.

Not bad, would be tempted by it if I needed a lot of storage.

well, if we gonna make our n1 bigger.. is that possible to make raid of two 32GB SDHC cards?

Nice Job. DocRambone was going to try this with the 3200mAH battery and cover but I dont know if he was successful.
The custom back-cover that comes with it should have room for this.
ps: Can you post the pics in the OP so its easy to find, thanks.

Hi Britoso..I was think about putting out the money for the 3200mAH battery...but then I found the case for it was too big...
The mod that I did is something that I think a lot of people can live with..its not ugly..the crystal case fits...and the grip of the phone has changed a little..I find it feels a little better.
Forgive my ignorance I have been on this site for several years now and still do not know everything...what do you mean by "OP"..set me straight and I will place the pictures there..
To All...
Again with this mod the cover slides off like it should...I put a small slit in the cover for the flex cable...and placed protective tape on both sides of the flex cable to prevent damage.
So at the most I just have to buy a new back cover and return the phone to OEM condition.
Oh I did shaved the battery a little by the MicroSD slot area...
If anyone is really interested in this converter let me know...like I said...$200.00+ for a 32GB Mirco SD card...I have seen them selling for $395.00..no way I say.
This mod ran me $82.00 for the 32GB standard class 10 card and $35.00 in parts.. Grand total of $117.00 for massive storage...I say the little bump on the back is worth it..phone can quickly be restored to OEM..
Maybe in 1.5 years from now when 32GB MicroSD cards come down to earth....I will get one..then I will just use my 32GB Class 10 Standard SD in a HD camcorder...

If it fits inside the battery cover it will be safer from movement, dust, drops etc.
OP= Original Post, the first post
You can also Add "Mod" to the title, need to go into the advanced edit mode for that.

BTW, "class" on a (micro)sd card is for measuring _write_ speed only. Hence playing a video will test precisely nothing relating to it's class rating.
And yes, the N1 can saturate the write speed on a Class 2 card _very_ easily.

Anyone still looking for an adapter. I found this:

They sell this directly for around $24 + shipping.

Small downside to Touch Pro

MICROSD is UNDER the battery cover...how lame..almost like they are reverting back to oldschool smartphones aka htc tornado and such lol
on the other hand, as it's supposed to be a business phone, maybe it's designed to prevent spies from swapping cards too easily (to upload a virus or copy your contact data without you noticing) or avoid SDs from falling out in case of earthquakes, tornadoes, plane crashes...
Those HTC guys, they think of everything !!!
Lies! The HTC TOUCH PRO HAS NO DOWNSIDES!!
<sarcasm>
Yes. lol almost every phone has a downside that HTC makes. Otherwise, well, HTC wouldn't be HTC. I'd be surprised if HTC makes a phone that everyone likes. I want a iPhone with WM running on it. Now that would be kick-ass. Someone godly pro should get a ridiculous amout of money for doing that so he gets some motivation. I know someone can do it. And just to say, if the iPhone gets a hardware keyboard/externa memory version. We can all say bye bye to the WM market :[
hilarious!!
but wait im SURE people are gonna make aftermarket back covers that have a hole/slot so you dont have to hack it to pieces with a razor to get the ease of access lol
i am slightly concerned for the touch pro's music prowess.
I really like it that the microSD is now beneath the battery cover. I currently own a TyTN and here the microSD can be accessed from the outside and is easily ejected just by putting some pressure on it.
Sometimes it already happened, that I ejected the SD just by accident when I put it out of my pocket.
I do not swap my microSD very often because you can easy access it through ActiveSync, and for the few times I load a huge bunch of data to it, it's not a big deal just to remove the cover and put it out.
So my conclusion: Putting the microSD beneath the backcover, brings more protection to the microSD and more style to the phone. (the slot would "break" the stylish surface)
I agree. I have the same problem with my Tytn, it sometimes accidently comes out and on top of that a lot of dirt can get in the slot. And i'm not so fond of those fiddly little sd slot covers they put on other phones. They tend to break or loosen. So thumbs up for HTC that they put their sd card slot on the inside!
when does it come out??? i wanna sell my tytn ii for it. that wouldnt be much of a hastle . i usually bluetooth files to my phone aniways.
i presume there still isnt a 3.5mm jack on the touch pro?
No, there's not. Headphone/Headset is connected through the USB mini connector.
No 3.5mm jack!
That's the only down side I see with the touch pro.
But I do like that the Micro SD slot is hidden because I do not want my SD card popping out and me losing my music and files.
I don't think that's a downside at all. Like some people said, it is a lot safer there.
And think on the bright side, it could be under the battery itself, like it is on my phone, which really really sucks.

Despite what play.com syas Im sure the audio out is via the usual ext_usb socket, as is video out (with the correct adapter).
Even then I really think that to access the memory card one have to take the batt cover, is a downside, not big but a valid one.
I wonder with time if the cover will not get a bit loosely ...
"I want a iPhone with WM running on it. Now that would be kick-ass."
hehe that would solve the fact that one had to take out the batt to change sdcard pretty sufficiently
"I do not want my SD card popping out and me losing my music and files."
hhmm if you pop it back in they'd be back though
The only thing I am concerned about is the fact when I will actually be able to put a 16GB MircoSD card in the pro...
Announced in January, these "babies" are yet not available...
But HTC certainly wants us to use 16GB cards ... so where are those

Sandisk had orginally said they would be out in June but we have kinda missed that already. There a few pics on the net of Symbian phones with the a test 16GB card in and these have been around for ages.

Very dissapointing...
The last thing you want is a spring-loaded micro-SD ejecting across a crowded pub... they're *tiny* and real buggers to find if they escape. Sounds like a flaw, but maybe not. I'll put an 8Gb card in, then probably never swap it until I get a bigger card. Lack of a 3.5mm jack is a bigger pain, but I survive now with the stupid 2.5mm jack on my Prophet.

SD size

I was wondering what the Max SD card size (2 ,4 , or 8 gb)I can use on the touch pro
16 gig
But remember... its not size that counts, its how you use it
Actually, its been tested for up to 32gb.
Well, as long as it's MicroSD you can use any size. But I don't think 32gb is available yet.
If I haven't missed anything that is.
you can use adapter for conect normal SD 32gb to microSD port
Officially supports upto 32gb....but I wouldn't put anything larger than 16gb on it.

Yes. someones already done a sd to micro sd adapter hack to their touchpro and used a 32 gig sd card then. Too bad they cost 100 bucks for just a ribbon and card holder. id be tempted to use my spare back and make the same up.

you want Power? when I first got my Kaiser, I brought it back to Vietnam to show off... then I got kicked in the butt by my little cousin who own a Nokia Vertu Ferrari edition... The phone is not a touch screen, nor have all the functions as my Kaiser and he only have a 2GB card in it... but it cost him $11k
I really don't understand why 32GB... I only use 3GB on my 8GB microSD. if the phone graphic performance is as good as the Iphone, then I wouldn't mind having a big microSD card in it to play DVD movies... but not on this phone. The graphic drivers are just not good enough for it.
Well, I have a 16gb in my fuze, and everyone is impressed with the sliding KB, Tv-out, vga, BT Audio, gyrator2, scroll wheel, etc. Plus, I let my daughter at UNC-CH (Junior) take it for a few days, and it's a real guy-magnet, not that she really needs it, of course. (She normally uses a tilt)
BTW-- All in fun!!!!
32G for music and media man. That's why. My friend has an Iphone and thinks it's the jam. But my Fuze, once I find a 32G will put his Iclone to shame.
it doesnt matter if it got tested i have a 8 gb sandisk and my 4 gb get more pics and video then my 8 gb so idk wat to tell u

So I don't see how you think juxtaposing those quotes says anything about people not reading - other than yourself.
In response to your other question, I have 16GB on my phone, and wish that the phone had an easily accessible "external" microsd.
I use about half of the 16GB for work; the phone serves as a micro pc for short-term use. I also use it as a music-player. If there were a separate microsd it would be easy to interchange them for movies, music or other media.
I have a 16gb and it works fine. 32gb is the max.

True, but can never be too safe (Newegg's counterfeit CPU incident as well as Amazon). And you never really know till you benchmark the product as there has been some shady sites that have sold "authentic" but failed QA products. Meaning products that were suppose to be thrown away but have been hauled/stolen.
Nevertheless this is on slickdeals right now so it should be good.
But yeah pretty good card, benchmarked here:

Yeah I overlooked the 2nd benchmark because the Samsung Galaxy S3 paths things differently, so I'll try to upload another benchmark but they're pretty much 1~3mb/s lower in range. (USB Adapter being 20read/11write).
I'm on CM9 on the Skyrocket and /sdcard/ and /mnt/sdcard/ are the same thing showing the external storage for me and /emmc/ and /emmc/external_sd/ (embedded multi media card) shows the internal storage.
Not sure how ICS ROMs do it but under /sdcard/ I dont see an /external_sd/ and it just goes directly to the files so thats where it gets a little confusing. So the pathing of the ICS, CM9 and Galaxy S3 are a little different.
replaced my samsung 16gb class 6 with this card - just got it in the mail today.
first thing i noticed, was my phone took like a second to do the media scan (i have 14gb of data on it)
with my sandisk class6 card, it would take like 15 seconds.
this one was almost instant, it was crazy
Speed tests:
done almost 10 times:
write: 10mb/s almost ever time, maybe once it was 9.8

SD to MicroSD Converter : Use Regular SD card with Galaxy S4? [ REQ. FEEDBACK]

Converter:
http://dx.com/p/sd-to-microsd-transflash-card-converter-module-27001
Battery back to hold it in:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DM...5_QL70#ref=mp_s_a_1_14&qid=1393772453&sr=8-14
I figure you get the converter, then go out and back a back cover that will fit either just the stock battery and the converter...
Or get a little bit bigger one, and you might be able to fit a bigger battery in there too, I'm not sure if you can position both a battery that would take up all the space where it is, and try to fit the converter above it... cuz of the camera...
Anybody have any experience with this? I figure if your only interested in using bigger cards, This converter and a bigger back could have you with 256gb of storage on your device...I think it's worth the money to check out, I've seen a couple hard cases that would make room for this thing too.
There's images of it being 4.15 or 4.16 mm thick. So that's how much more room it'll be taking up underneath.
feedback?

I think it currently comes down to 2 things: How will Android be handling external storage in the future, and how feasible it is now that 128GB MicroSD cards are available. Definitely a big thanks for pointing this out though.
Yeah I looked into it a bit more. I didn't realize they were charging so much money for the 128 and 256 gb sd cards. Doesn't make it worth it at all really. If the 256 ended up being cheaper than the micro128gb , then it might be worth it. But the amount of money people want for a 256gb sdcard is outrageous.
I seriously disagree with how small these cards are still. I can't be the only one who wants and could use a half a terabyte of space on my device? Can I be?
It isn't that I've got that much stuff I need on hand all the time, I just wish I didn't have to worry about space all the time. I wish I didn't have to always delete things to make room for others.
Having 75gb on my dropbox helps, but what do I do in a year when my free time is up? I ain't paying all that money for online space. That's even more ridiculous that the sd cards. Considering you'll eventually have to buy done sort of physical media to put it all on one your service time is up, or keep paying into infinity....
With where technology is, there's no excuse why we don't have 64gb devices as a standard right now, with 256 or 512gb micro sd's fit expansion. I hate marketing. They suck every penny out of you.

I was just about to start a thread to ask this question. I'm interested in doing this mod. Just wondering if any one has else has and could you post some pics please. I seen the note 2 thread but the s4 it might be a tight fit. I've got the unu extended battery case but it doesn't have a lot of room underneath so think I might have to cut it.
There are a couple of issues you might run across though.. First being, wouldn't that just make the sd card read/write speeds wayyyyy too slow? And also, don't the phones have a limit on how much external storage they can use?
edit: oh jeez.. just saw how old the topic is... my apologies..
Thanks the reply. I thought sdxc supports upto 2tb. Thinking about sticking 512gb sd so I can carry round all my music. Thinking the sd might cover my flash though. I can't find anyone who's done this to an s4, only the note.

Question 2 Days in dealing with file transfer Hell

This is my first Android phone without a micro SD card, and it sucks trying to transfer large files. I'm coming from a Note 10+ with 256GB internal storage and a 512GB micro SD card. So, with a 512GB internal storage only, I'm already taking a step backwards. I've always kept most large files on my SD card and it was simple to place the SD card in the new phone. It's always made backups simple, ever since Android did away with USB Mass Storage. I know I'm old school, but I've also chosen the Note series because it's always been the Swiss Army Knife of cell phones. But, they constantly remove features to the point where there's very little differentiation from other phones. I wish I would've bought a Note 20 Ultra before Samsung stopped making them. But, who knew they would eliminate the micro SD completely. They did it with the Note 5 and apparently realized it was a mistake because they brought it back for the next 5 generations. I almost switched to the Xperia Pro or I III. Except Sony put 95% of their phone features into the camera. I run multiple businesses and I've always relied on the Note with the option of pulling the SD card for quick file transfer. We got minor upgrades in processor and battery, but I don't know if I can except the trade off for what's been omitted. This $1,300 phone might be going in the trash if I can't find some important trade-offs. So far, it seems like a downgrade to my 2019 premium phone.
In the US you can still buy new factory sealed N10+'s and N20U's.
I bought a new N10+ 4 months ago to serve as a backup for my first one. I don't think the N20U is as reliable and it's variable refresh rate display like all of the variable refresh rate displays doesn't have as good a color rendering index as the N10+. The cam hump and that lame lefty spen... idiots.
No SD card slot, no sale. Personally I like to have two 1tb SD card slots.
Screw Sammy for turning all Apple
Call Samsung up and share the wuv
I have had to do 2 factory resets to try and solve some issues. Smart Switch isn't cutting it. Samsung wants me to put in the code off of my other Galaxy device?! I have no other Galaxy device now.
This whole deal starting with the presale has been a disaster. The phone has not been what the specs were either.

The left handed S-pen seems retarded. I understand (but still not happy with) the constant rearrangement of the power/volume buttons. I've gotten used to everything being on the left side. But, my Tab S6 has right side buttons. So, if you're gonna switch sides, at least put the power button above or below the volume rocker to match other devices. My patience is running thin. I may be on the search for a new N20U. I still have my 10+, but the back screen's broken and the wifi antenna struggles to reconnect to existing wifi at times. Again, the brand alternatives are slim. I appreciate your point of view on tech.

You're not wrong here, pal. I am trading in a N20U for this new S22U that I just received yesterday and the one thing I do dread, is having to backup constantly. I am certainly NOT going to succumb to cloud storage and it sucks ass through a straw to know that every time I add new memes to my collection that stays on my phone, I have to sift through to find those that aren't already backed up. In addition, I can no longer factory reset without affecting the external SD card. If a factory reset is done, EVERYTHING goes bye bye. While this new phone is extremely fast and in a class of its own, it sucks that Samsung went the Apple way — pretty lame.

You still have patience with Samsung?
The rear cover for the N10+ is cheap. Replace the battery and anything else needed.
Get a rear cover seal and the seal or assembly for the cam cover if not included with the replacement.
I use the Zizo Bolt case as it gives good drop protection. Easy to hold and keep clean.
I think you should've done your research first since it was already advertised in the first place that it won't have an SD card slot. and before you pre-order, there are device specifications to look at. blaming won't Samsung will not help you, there's a lot of information leaking out before it was introduced to the public.
I came from being an avid user of microSD-cards as well, but as sadly most current phones don't support them any more I moved on....
What I use for file transfer is the app "Total Commander" together with the "Wifi Transfer" Plugin, then connect both phones via Wifi direct (is a bit faster than going over the Wifi router in my house which is used by the whole family) and then copy files over.... Oh, and don't forget to remove battery optimization for both TC and thw Wifi plugin.....

I did my research. There are a lot of us that have been discussing our frustration for months over the omission of the micro SD card slot. I still like a new premium phone every couple of years.
The truth is, unfortunately, these things are spy devices. We shouldn't be keeping personal files and data on these devices. Take your pics and videos and back them up off your device. I don't do the pathetic social media thing, too, so that helps and eliminates any need for personal pictures and videos having to stay on my device. I'm just giving a bit of perspective.
Coming from a note 10 plus with 256 internal and 512 sd card. Used smart switch through a cable and took around 2 hours to transfer 450 Gb of files. I do have the 1 tb model. Don't know if that makes a difference
Get a USB C style micro-sd adapter and plug it into the phone and an SD into that? At one point I am sure samsung were even shipping adapters with their first generation of USB C devices.
Something like this (this is just a quick google, I have not checked nor am I endorsing this particular product, or seller) - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/37378004...7779&msclkid=5a468d1beed019e9d88def02ff420f60
Edit: even trusted companies like kingston sell options, and it was compatible with the S21 Ultra, so should be fine on the S22 Ultra - https://www.mymemory.co.uk/kingston-mobilelite-duo-3c-microsd-card-reader.html
I dont know how this lack of mountable storage is such a big issue for people? Buy a phone with sufficient internal storage and call it a day. And as already mentioned, keeping your entire personal history on your phone is dumb.
I use my laptop to store my files and back them up to an external drive. Super easy to transfer what I need to my new phone.
I do a fresh install of my apps over a period of days priortizing by usage.
It is best to do a clean install. Using a file transfer app to move data and apps from one phone to another can lead to problems. I guess everyone wants an instantaneous process because they want quick and easy.

Yep, why I got a 1TB model. Also bought a Super Speed USB 3 cable and the transfers are lightning quick. The one that came with the phone is USB 2.0 speed.
Would you provide a link to the one you purchased?
I was in the exact same boat. I spent 2 days transferring files and it sucks.
It was two hours for me also. Bundled cable is 2.0 only? What's with all the high wattage cables being USB 2.0 only. Though honestly never really had high regards to Samsungs included cables, they fall apart within a couple month of just simple plug/replug (I don't manhandle devices or cables).
Anyone else go from 65% initial charge to ~ 20% in that span as well?

Don't trash it donate it to a charity for a good cause and stick with your Note 10+. YOU KNEW there was not gonna be an SD Card option but you bought it anyway. No SD Card and No Audio Jack is the future of phones. Without those it offers more space for the battery and better cooling solutions. If you have a 512 gb SD card why didn't you go with 512gb internal storage? It was only $100 more than 256gb which would have doubled your storage.

No SD card slot impacts chipset cooling options little. Most heat is dissipated through the display side and almost none through the frame rail.
Samsung better get their rabid gerbil dancing act together especially after their latest data breach atrocity.
Tired of Samsung telling the customer what they want and need. Screw that. Put out or get out Sammy.
My one N10+ is 512gb. It takes way too long to load that big a drive when you could simple slam in a loaded sd card and be good to go. That's what I did on my 2nd N10+, hit the ground running and setting it up.

They gonna do what they think is in the best interests of the majority of users and not the niche group (a few percentage) that actually fill up 512gb of storage. It's saves them money not having the SD card and increases their profits because they force you to buy a phone with more than the standard storage option. You got two choices. Accept it or buy a different brand.
