So many ROM's.... Which one? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

After work tonight I'm gonna dive in and unlock my HOX bootloader and dive in to some new ROM's. I see there are now a multitude of choices here, and I am wondering if I could get some feedback regarding which ones are viewed best. Fast, clean, best battery life, customizability... so many criteria I'm a bit confused. Any guidance here would be greatly appreciated.

This should be in Q&A but try clean ROM it's the best in my opinion.....now prepare to be flamed...

The second I clicked "post" I realized I put this in the wrong forum. I am SO sorry. I don't know how to move it. I hope the Mods move it for me. I don't want to be flamed! I'm really sorry.

FLAME!
i'm sure the mods will move this at some point.
personally, i like clean rom DE, sense is pretty, but it's such a huge resource hog still, aosp ICS is so much lighter on ram, even in its faux aosp iteration on our phones.

Duuude, you're sooo stooopid.
Just kidding.
Its not that hard. If you intend to flash the "typical" way using CWM, and not mess with desktop installers then that excludes Magnolia and Sirius (these were released before the bootloader was unlocked) . At least until they are updated to flash via CWM.
There is a stock deodexed 1.85 ROM, and a 1.88 ROM. But as the names tell you, they are just stock ROMs, just deodexed. Good if you want a base to do other mods (which often require deodex) but that's about it. And 1.88 is based on an Asian ROM, and it breaks AT&T LTE.
What you have left is only 3 custom ROMs. CleanROM DE has an AOSP look, if you are looking for that. If you like Sense, pick CleanROM or Nocturnal. CleanROM is somewhat close to stock, but with performance tweaks and other mods, and de-bloated. Nocturnal looks to have lots of customization options when you flash thanks to AROMA. I haven't personally tried Nocturnal. But I've used ROMs on a previous phone that utilize AROMA, and its very slick.
If you want to see the current ROMs listed in an organized fashion, have a look at my index thread (shameless self promotion):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
That's all there is to it, at least for now. Hopefully we'll have a lot more to choose from soon! That's one first world problem I would like to have . . .

Can't go wrong with cleanrom, I've been using his roms on a few phones, I love it.

Wrong section

For me I came to the HOX from my GNex so my assumption was I was going to want to get closer to AOSP / CM9 as soon as possible.
I was surprised to really enjoy a few different tweaks to Sense that HTC has done like the lock screen shortcuts which I use constantly.
For me I have been sticking with CleanROM since the 2.0 version. It has been very very stable and the little tweaks available by default are really everything I want.

I'm really enjoying CleanROM DE. Smooth and ASOP elements are sexy.

this is a test Gingerbread/Sense rom for the telus DHD, it has been rooted with SU and busybox installed. Inspire 4g users may want to install the TurboniumX Inspire Audio Fix if the call quality is bad(i havent had time to test it much yet). here are some screenshots....

Ill give it a whirl.
so far the only bug i have ran across is...of course...the sound lol. on my end of call there is quite a bit of static, but the people i have talked to say they can hear me fine. just installed the audio fix, seems like it has helped some but static is still there.

the sound fix? i use r1 that was in his first post, i didnt know there was r2 i have never had the need for it with the rooted stock rom hehe.
update...the sound is actually somewhat acceptable now, but not as good as the stock rom. this rom is actually pretty cool i am enjoying playing with it, but i will be flashing back my rooted stock rom before work tomorrow.

r2 was taken down, last I heard. It caused the mic to quit working.
Just flashed it, in call sound wasn't to horrible for me, so far it runs pretty smooth.
edit: To be honest the speaker is actually louder and clearer after flashing this, I haven't flashed the sound fix yet.
So far its pretty nice. I'm sure it will be fully developed in a week.
Thanks for the ROM, looked great, however the performance was 30% slower then a stock Inspire.

So is it just wishful thinking to ask whether this has the cool lock animation that the stock gingerbread or CM7 has. like the tube tv shutting off animation? Common sense tells me no but I thought I would ask.

Opinions on current jvb ROMS

Ive been hooked on MIUI for the past month and love the ui and ROM but I've been thinking about trying out a new jvb rom. I just want to know what peoples thoughts are on perception 2, gr-x, and continuum v5. That being said I know there is no best rom. I am just asking what everyone's favorite aspects/features are of each rom. And please don't say to flash them and find what works for me. I wont be able to flash for a week and have and opinion formulated.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
Read the features of each and decide for yourself. They are all fast and smooth.
So your choice comes down to which dev you like most basically!
Samsung Galaxy S i896 on Cezar's Continuum v5 GingerBread
gr-11 is fast beautiful and polishd but support for flac and maybe other codecs is missing, still trying to isolate the missing files. perception is very quick but the talon kernel breaks my gps. this is not typical. then there is c5 which is great all around but gr-11 has much cleaner and better looking implimentation of tw4. then there is subpression, i havent tried the v2 if this yet but it is very light and my sd card wouldnt mount to linux when i tried it. subpression also has touchwiz4 but on v1 which i tried it was that one with the ugly glass bubble icon and very slow.
At the moment I'm on GR-11. Great battery life, really stable.
It really depends on what you're looking for in a rom, though. MIUI and CM7 are going to give you a really custom experience, obviously. GR-X is going a fairly vanilla experience relatively.

ya i've only heard good stuff about gr-11, even DG has said its the best jvb rom out there. and i completely agree about miui and cm7. ive been on both and they're great but i can only stay on one rom for so long before wanting to test something else out.
not sure if we can but it would be sick if we could combine some of continuum's themes with gr-11. from what ive seen theyre sick.
and what to you guys think of tw 4.0? i find it kinda weird that everyone is so interested in it when almost everyone hated tw 3. maybe its just the latest and greatest and will pass over eventually
i like the stock implimentation of tw4. i also like tw3 so take that for what it is. the themed tw4 that is floating around is too slow and the icons dont match and features dont work. in gr11 tw4 (that's the stock one) is great, good looking and no slower than tw3 with the addition of support folders in the app drawer and easier editing with a way to pull icons into a blank page @ the bottom of the screen. also it has a widget picker similar to the way miui is implimented.
Im on Continuum and Im loving it. Im gonna wait another day or two for Phoenix to release something before trying Perception though
Just installed GR-11 and I gotta say I'm impressed. I know Quadrant scores don't mean much but check out the cpu score. This is on xcal kernel (the one that comes with GR) on RFS

Awesome work to the dev and thanks for posting. I'm going to go install it and report back =)
When I heared that Google stated that ICS should be executable on every GB device, I new that someone would do the port for the G1 ... Congrats!
I am quite sure that we will see quite soon a version which will perform more or less like GB on our G1, probably not with all features of ICS.

Just installed it! All I gotta say is WOW!
Wasn't expecting it to actually turn on lol, but it actually works pretty nice. Not lagging as much as I thought it would. The rotation problem isn't that big of a deal for me personally as I usually use my phone in landscape anyway, but I can see how it might be annoying for others.
It scrolls quite smooth through the menus; in the mtd partition i set the cache to 3mb instead of 2..not sure if that the reason for the extra smoothness..???
Quick Question..If I were to increase the cache size, would it run smoother?
Anyway, I'm really impressed with the overall ROM. I still haven't tested out any apps, the phone, messaging...or any of the other things people would use regularly. Will mess around with it a bit more...or maybe a lot =P
I'm so excited haha.
Thanks again for this amazing release!!!
Good job man!
Cool, now I want to see No-frills run on it ;-)

[Q] Rom Recommendation

Hey guys,
I've been out of the flashing game for some time now and looking for a fresh rom.
Some of the things I really look for are,
-solid battery life
-good camera interface (ive taken over 1600 photos since sep 2011)
-I hate a phone that freezes and WILL SACRIFICE bells and whistles for it
-I DIS-like the sense feature that allows the screens to rotate like a carosel (iv done it waay too many times on accident)
I will say I do prefer sense, for all the built in features that are very stable. But since the inspire has been out for a while maybe some of the alternates have STABLE features BUILT IN.
Here are a few that I really enjoyed
-Gingerbeast....can you say battery life and stability!!
-LeeDroid....the first rom i ever tried, good balance of features
-WCX_Sense....sense done beautifully! (not great battery life though)
and here are a couple roms that didn't fit my personality/desires
-virtuous unity 1.27
-original rumrunner
-ace miui
**I'm not a fan of adding a lot from the market** I usually find this slows the phone and adds to the stability issues
Open to try anything that you guys think would work well...even if its an updated version of something i didn't really like last time around
Thanks!

Coredroid is really good, its my preferred sense rom. lots of tweaking options within it.
WOW and removing apk's was pointless, (lmao). What one ROM may work great for one person may not work great for another. You have to try them out yourself. I love Redemption 4.0 has its small issues, but also Absolution 3.7 is very solid.

I did not ask what is the best rom, or what is your favorite, simply which current rom will fit MY listed preferences best.
Wasn't trying to make this a super generic newb post...
and with respect. this is a development site. its a collection of projects and hacks. this isnt a library where you ask about a genre of books and we take you to them. just download and try. best bet
Virtuous Affinity seems to be pretty solid for a sense ROM. RCMix3D Runny 4.0 was also pretty best. I use my phone heavily and haven't noticed many bugs on Virtuous Affinity so I would recommend it to you.

If you are looking for stability, no carosel, and the best battery life I have ever experienced give the Juicy R2 version ROM a try. The link is in my sig. It is Gingerbread 2.3.3 and Sense 2.5. No added mods, or bells and whistles. Seriously thinking of going back to it myself. Using WCX at the moment. It is a great ROM but I have to agree that it is not the best for battery life. I can do without the new weather app in 3.0 and 3.5.

Now for the OP see one of the biggest issues is that a rom could run 100% on my device but not on yours. That is the reason for the try them out yourself and see what works best for you.

Roms are very subjective as everybody has told you. I would recommend CoreDroid V9.4 that is truly awesome and battery life great. RCmix and WCX have been discontinued unfortunately, so I would just use a rom that is still supported. Anyway, all roms in here are great and very smooth and stable. In the end, it will depend on what you like....

hello there
i bought an atrix 2 and i want to flash custom roms on it,but as i see most of custom roms have xperia s's UI,can anyone help me to change it? i love motorola UI,and before flash roms i want to know how can i change the xperia's UI to moto's UI(moto switch or moto blur)
i really need to connect to motorola's servers to connect with facebook and other social networks...
thanks for guiding me friends
Try "the stock monster" in either the Themes or the Developers thread (don't remember which). It's been ripped apart and optimized, then reodexed for stability.
There are a couple of other ones around, especially cogeary's international roms, just be sure to read up on whichever you choose.
Just a question, if you want all of the stock stuff, then why do you want to flash a rom?
Romulus is a great modded ROM, odexed for stability, and uses normal motoblur UI.

That's a great question that I would like to know also! Can someone on another custom ROM type this in terminal emulator (or just go physically check the file with root explorer):
Code:
cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online
If it returns 0, then it's not on.
I became interested in this when I was messing with 0vermind's Speedy script, and checking if things were working. Turns out it was not putting cpu1 online. Even after I echo 1 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/online myself through terminal emulator, it still returns 0.
So, maybe someone who knows a bit more about this can shed some light..?
I'm on SCv6 and it returned 0 for me

That's what I figured - I know that has the Speedy v7 script also, which is supposed to put both cores online - but it looks like it doesn't work on our phones.
Then again, the System Panel app shows both cpu cores running...

The motoblur home is an apk just like anything else. It's just a preinstalled system app. If you have it on one ROM you can decompile the ROM, and move it to another. I don't have the apk handy though. :/

Yep, returned 0 for me on Supercharged v6 for me too.

From what I understand the second core only chimes in when the first core gets to a certain percentage of use. That would make sense that it does that to save on battery and allow it to perform seamless performance throughout. Try downloading something and checking while you're downloading.
