root hboot 2.00 after bootloader - HTC Desire S

hi im new at this sort of stuff and require help. i wish to root my desire s to put custom roms on but it is locked and is hboot 2.00, what is the best way? should i use htc dev's bootloader or downgrade my hboot then root?
thanks

Tried the search button?
Downgrade is the best option. Using the htcdev method will void your warranty.

Search for revolutionary and use that first and follow instructions to the letter worked first time on my desire s 4 months ago and on 2 nd Rom. Also this does invalidate warranty as soon as you root phone but u gain loads of stuff n extras.
Have fun and enjoy a new phone, make a mistake or have a prob help always found on xda

[Q] root without s-off

Ok I can't find where anyone has already asked this so here goes:
Is there a way to root the Sensation WITHOUT getting s-off as I don't want s-off
sounds weird but don't bother asking why I don't want s-off
Links would be much appreciated!
Simply... no. When we first got our phones teamwin had a temp root available before AlphaRev x gave us s-off. But HTC corrected the exploit quickly after that and no one really is deving a temp root anymore because s-off is the way to go. To gain root access you need either a security exploit (freevo by team win, which got corrected an no other has been found) or an unlocked boot loader (AlphaRev, s-off).

The official HTC method will unlock your bootloader without giving you s-off

OK i stand corrected. I have no experience w the HTC unlock method. But if you still want your warranty I advise against the HTC method. I don't know if they have came straight out and said it voids your warranty, but if you have a problem later I'd bet they'll see you used it and try to BS you.

'HTC desire s' not listed on htcdev.com

Hi all
Is it me, cuz im not seeing the 'desire s' listed on the htcdev.com as an option to unlock the boot loader?
All I want to do is root my stock Rom. Not interested in trying any other roms.

It's not listed but it works. Just select the bottom option "Other Supported Devices" and follow the procedure
Does this procedure get around s-on also ?
Concerns me why they haven't listed it.

No, your device will be s-on, but the bootloader will be unlocked. It's almost the same.
I have no clue why they haven't listed it either.....
Can you still root with s-on ?

After you unlock bootloader via htcdev.com, yes you can
Thanks for your help. One last question, how do you root the installed rom?

Click to collapse
Look for SuperOneClick in here, it will easily root your rom
Sent from somewhere around the globe using XDA app on my HTC Desire S
I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com (operation was OKAY).
SuperOneClick 2.2 hangs at step 7.
I'm guessing that you have a hboot 2.00...
When u used HTC.dev to unlock your HTC desire s you need to Install cwm or 4ext and then you can flash any Rom you like.
After flashing your HTC with the new Rom you need to fastboot the boot.img to your device cause your device is not S-off.
An other option would be downgrading. Do a few searches and you will be fine.
Otherwise post back and I'll help you out.

Hello,
Thank you for your help.
Yes I have the HBOOT 2.00.002 - Android 2.3.5
In the post : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390496
"dtronics" suggests 2 operations to do for s-offing for the Desire S :
1 - unlocking the bootloader (htcdev.com)
2 - using SuperOneClick 2.2
The second treatment hangs at 7th step.
Without downgrading the hboot (2.00.002):
If you have a link to a simple and complete documentation to doing s-OFF.
Thank you
Dos bootloader unlock deletes all personal apps, contacts, files or not?
Superoneclick 2.3.3 roots desire s?
Thx for help

I unlock bootloader and root, install recovery, then it deletes all contacts and file in internal storage, not delete file in sd card
In the drop down list choose other supported phones

What's better to do if I want to flash roms, htcdev unlock or S-OFF? I mean, do I have to do both, or just one, and what's better?
And what should I use, EXT4 recovery or ClockworkMod Recovery? Tnx
I would choose downgrading if necessary and S-OFF. The main disadvantages of the htcdev method are the loose of warranty and the need to flash manually the boot image every time you change the rom.
I personally like 4ext but CWM is also very good.
Next time you need some info gry to search the forum, this things were allready discussed.
As a mather of fact i don't think there's a thing left undiscussed in here.

You don't need to be S-OFF to root your phone. Those are 2 different things.
I rooted my HTC Desire a year ago, and just today decided to S-OFF.
I used unrevoked method, but nowadays you might be better served with Revolutionary.

[Q] Worries about rooting

Hi
I want to root me device.
I have ICS hboot 1.27.
I can go with htcdev bootloader unlock, the only thing that Im worried about is warranty. If the device will have a hardware defact, htc will repair it under warranty?
I can also go with the wire trick and s-off, but Im worried about the whole process.
Please advise.
Best regards
Uri
Once you unlock the bootloader with htcdev you will lose waranty.
About the wire trick a lot of people have done it successfully
But you can always return your device into completely situation by using ruu.exe for waranty purposes
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Go slow and take it step by step...you'll be fine. After a year or so, I have never had much faith in my warranty anyway.
Hi
Do u mean the method of the wire-trick with no htcdev?
TNX
Uri
Hi, I just wanted to say I think you will be very happy once your device is rooted and have a custom rom. It made such a great difference in my device! Before rooting I was getting a lot of freezing and reboots, after rooting that's all gone. It keeps my device fresh and alive not to mention all the customization that you will be able to do with s off and rooting! Don't worry take it slow, follow there guides and you will be good to go. Best wishes

Don't worry mate go ahead...
If u worried about warranty den there is method for s off without HTC dev unlocked...
But u need to accurate when doing wire trick
And for warranty purpose u need to s on again , but worry not , u can s on by flashing RUU and some fastboot command
Stock Rom on HTC sensation is crappy.
Lot of stable Rom available in dev section .. worth to try
