Hi guys,
This may not strictly be a Sensation question at all, but since I'm using a Sensation, and I'm baffled by this problem, I thought I'd ask if any of you have any idea what could be going wrong here. I've posted about this issue on Vodafone UK's forums but I can't post the link as I haven't posted enough yet, so I've copied what I wrote below;
Firstly I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, it's an odd problem and I'm not sure who to contact about it. I spend a lot of time abroad in the Czech Republic, so I have a Vodafone UK contract with the data traveller service included. This has worked brilliantly for months, however about a month or so ago I started to notice problems when connected through HSDPA, on ANY of the local networks here (Vodafone CZ, o2, T-Mobile).
What happens is data can be downloaded, but data can't be sent, meaning that virtually anything that requires data doesn't work as most things do require data to be sent. So for example, the Speedtest.net app will give a great download speed, but then it hangs on the upload speed. I use a piece of software called Pubtran to look up public transport times here, and this doesn't work now over HSDPA. I can't browse the internet over HSDPA, pages just time out. Facebook won't refresh, and exchange email won't sync, etc.
Now, if I force the phone onto a GSM type connection, so that the link is over EDGE instead, everything works perfectly. No issues whatsoever, so this is unfortunately the way I have to leave it just now. I've tried the same SIM in a different phone (my usual phone is an HTC Sensation, the test phone is an HTC Desire), and there's exactly the same issue. As stated above, this problem exists regardless of the network I'm connected to. It looks as though there could be a problem with Vodafone UK's APN, but then again it's working fine over EDGE, so it's most odd. I can't test with a different UK SIM unfortunately as I don't have one to try. Some of my friends here have Vodafone CZ SIMs, and these of course work perfectly over HSDPA.
Just to be clear, this problem only effects data over HSDPA, and it only started about a month or so ago. If I switch my phone to GSM, data works fine. This is repeatable on an HTC Desire that I have too. Does this sound like a network problem?
Thanks in advance
Why don't you just call Vodafone and ask

I am wanting to run one of these with a PAYG sim on 3UK Network, to benefit from the faster HSDPA broadband access via the phone and via a USB lead to a laptop (using the Orbit 2 as a modem). Is this likely to work OK? Anyone already doing this right now?
Also will the Orbit 2 work well with Skype, as my orbit 1 is poor and the audio breaks up (even when connected to 4mbit wifi connection). I hope the Orbit 2 has cured this problem.
I would appreciate comments on the above. Thanks a lot. Tony
I just came back from holiday in UK. My German Orbit2 used for roaming either O2 UK Network or TMobile and 3G worked fine on both networks. Is it that, what you were asking for?
About Skype I don't know anything, sorry.
Thanks for the reply, but no not exactly what I am looking for. I want to use the Orbit 2 on 3UK, which is another network (unless 3UK uses someone elses network). The 3UK Network is a new network provider in the UK.....
I basically want to know if the Orbit2 will work on 3UK with a PAYG sim (NOT ON A CONTRACT) for HSDPA internet access and to use as a normal phone.
I currently have an Orbit 1 on Orange PAYG, but want to use HSDPA (faster internet access with the Orbit 2), I also want to be able to use Skype as well using HSDPA.
Thanks anyway for the reply.
If you don't get help here, you should call the provider and ask.
Because I wanted to use my Orbit2 with a prepaid SIM of O2 UK with mobile internet. And they said, I can only use it for making calls and texts, not for internet. (They weren't able to provide internet settings for the device if not in a contract.) So I was able to use a prepaid SIM but only for calls and texts.
Anyway, good luck.

I think I understand what you're asking.
3 will not assist you because the Orbit 2 is not an 'approved' phone for 3's network.
However, there is a cab file that permits you to spoof 3's network that you are using a Nokia N95 which is an approved phone.
I know it works because we did this for a work colleague that was sick of his Nokia and went and bought a touch cruise and we installed the necessary file.
He's generally happy with the result but does report the occasional lag on 3's network.
If you want to know more and find a link to the file I suggest you read this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2229186
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.
Lom
Thanks a lot!!!!
It looks like you have sorted my problems... I will be getting the Orbit 2 in a couple of days and I will let you know how I get on. Thanks once again Lom.
ps. Any idea what the URL is for planet3 on the mobile???

Tony,
I'm not a 3 customer, but the thread I suggested you read claims this is the address for planet 3:

I've recently got a new 3G iphone. It came with a new SIM card that is suppose to be optimized for iphone. When I put this sim card into my Touch Cruise, I am unable to get 3G. There is signal bars but I cannot make or receive phone calls. The only way to make or receive phone calls is by disabling the 3G. The same applies for Data. I thought maybe the radio ROM was not working so I changed it to the Murata ROM but I am still having problems. I am on the Rogers network in Canada. Has anybody else having similar problems? Any help would be appreciated as I still find my Touch Cruise more useful than the 3G iphone.
Most probably is ur phone broken. U will have to send it to the service. Maaaaany users had/have/will have problems with calls, connections, signal strenght, bluetooth, camera, broken wheel etc. I had... Touch cruise is crapy.
If you know someone with a non-iPhone 3G sim, try theirs in your Cruise and see what happens

Actually, I did this today. Same thing happen. I would get a 3G signal but when I tried to make a call, I get no signal. But when I disable the 3G, edge works fine with voice and data.
Hi, I sufered the same problem until yesterday. I had the same problems. Yesterday I switched off the HSDPA switch in the software, after a soft reset the TC came back online. Probably worth trying?

I've tried both Murata radio roms. Both gives very good 3G signal but when I try to make a call or use data, I get no connection. I've tried the original radio ROM and some of the Kaiser ported radio Roms. They all give me no connection with 3G. In every case, when I disable the 3G, I can make calls and get data although it is only through edge and GPRS. I looked at my box for the TC and it is revision A. Do I need to send my TC for repair? I even went as far as calling my cell phone provider(Rogers) and they couldn't help me. The phone is functional but without 3G I am not getting very fast data speeds.
The problem started with my TC started after upgrading to Udk R6 and R7, after upgrading to R8 and a new radio version

Will give you an updated radio version what will have a good match with the Udk diamond R8 Rom.

just a question, I'm on ATT, and the sim card I use on my polaris came off the iPhone3G, and I get the H (the high speed thing) sign on the phone during data sessions. on some areas I'm only able to get E and sometimes even the G sign came on and off. so I guess, maybe wherever you are, the 3G signal isn't strong enough, so you can only get edge.
and as of the other person noted, polaris is kind of at the edge of getting broken, fast. I only uses mine exclusively for web browsing for a week when the phone goes crazy. sent it to repair and everything seems to be in "sane" mode now let's hope that my phone didn't try to go insane again

Guys, maybe a silly comment but did you check the following settings : phone/menu/options/band and check select network type to auto?
I have had problems before with 3G & HSDPA. Somtimes when your registered on HSDPA and you travell away from that mast/area into an area that only has 3G or even only Edge, then device does not re-register onto the other band and you will not be bale to make calls and will miss calls. This happened for days one time and i very nearly hard reset my device in frustration, i eventually found out it was a network problem.
Another work around is going to phone/menu/networks and manually select networks and hopefully it should bring up your 3G network.
Phone operators do not like telling you that their 3G or HSPDA networks do not have good coverage or intermittent quality of signal. My 3G network only has 70% coverage & 30 % of that is HSDPA, so i sometimes end up on EDGE and hence miss calls.
Try playing around with the setting above one at a time. When im stuck i manually set band to GSM (edge), then when travelling away reset back to auto. Most of the time however it is fine.
Hi, I'm from Argentina. I had the same problem with 3G after a trip to other country. Now my TC only works well in GSM Band. Unfortunatelly we don't have service support here so if anyone knows how to fix this will be highly appreciated.
I have the same problem in my Polaris. I tried almost every radio i could find, i tried with different sim cards, i tried with official wm6 and wm6.1 roms with no result. When 3G is enabled i can not make or receive calls. I think that the problem started when i first upgraded from WM6 to WM6.1. Now i keep band selection to GSM so at least i can use my polaris as a phone. There must be something that prevents gsm connection when 3G is active. I hope a registry tweak could be found for this. I' m just one step from sending my device to be serviced.
I have the same trouble with my virgin uk sim card and t-mobile which share the same network(need to turn off 3g),but no trouble with my asda sim which uses the vodaphone network. So if you try different sim cards make sure they dont share networks.Another thing i've noticed with my virgin sim is all my preferred networks are unchecked but my phone will still connect if my 3g is turned off?
Hello everyone ....
noob here so bear with me if I what I am asking has been discussed already... ran a search but did not find anything directly related so here goes...
I just got an HTC sensation from the UK (live in Malta).. My carrier uses only the HSDPA 2100 frequency as it uses only 3g... now the sensation does not want to connect to this carrier.... new sim, reset, etc,... but to no avail.
It works fine on the other carriers (they use other frequences in addition the one mentioned before)
I keep getting a message ""Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network'"
any idea why this is happening...
The set is going to the carrier tomorrow so its techs can have a look at it... and maybe fiddle with the settings a bit...
I have done all the usual things in the phone (GSM etc set to auto etc etc) but it never connects.... not even as a normal phone without data...
any ideas what could be the cause? hardward fault? though it works in the other two operators we have here..
I was actually thinking of a reflash or a custom rom if all fails....
it has my carrier a bit confused in fact..
spoke to HTC Uk and they told me to speak to the carrier
Phone has Vodafone branding on startup... but is unlocked as I tried with vodafone malta and another operator.... and both work... but not on 3g... did not try that..
could it be that 3g is locked and 2g is not? But i understand that an unlocked set is unlocked in its entirety...
My desire works fine with this carrier....
thanks
just a quick update...
partly solved through the testing menu and fettling with Cipher and radio toggle... I do have network and data access...
however, something funny cropped up... as soon as i activate GPS through a programme it cuts off GPRS and when i switch off GPS it does not come back on...
it requires a restart for it to come back on... or sometimes by toggling on and off aeroplane mode..
any idea before i flash the whole thing... or flush it down the loo.....
also got the locking ring touchscreen problem today....
not happy with my sensation at all today....
thanks...
I am having an identical problem with my sensation. Did you ever solve this?
Hi all,
I have searched the threads as best I can so I post this...apologies for the legnth...
It is assumed that the wifi adapter in the Sensation will connect to the strongest signal to give us all the best connection experience possible, however with the proliferation of open wifi signals now on offer in the UK (Openzone and BTFON etc) it is now causing havoc when I don't have BT as an ISP.
The problem:
Currently the priority of the Sensation's wifi radio software seems to be connecting to an open signal first. The strongest is second.
Unlike an alternative Apple product, I haven't found any settings to set a preference for remembered wireless networks and to only apply the other default rules AFTER those preferences.
The Apple product also never connects to a network without the okay from the user. The HTC/Android software connects irrespective. Finally the "forget network" option doesn't work either, as it rescans, picks it up again straight away and because it's "open" connects again.
This always happens in my home as the BTFON signal from next door's BT router is actually stronger at the front of my house that my own router signal from the back. Before anyone says "get another router or position it somewhere else", I can't without spending at least £60+ for a SKY ANYTIME+ wireless receiver (which I refuse to do).
Is there another hidden option for "stock" phones? or perhaps there is a ROM?
What I want it to do is:
1) control which discovered networks I allow my phone to connect to automatically.
2) set a flag to ignore other found wifi networks, regardless of signal strength.
I know these fly in the face of the original idea of the Sensation and HTC, which was to produce a phone that connects to any network as silently and quickly as possible. HTC's "Watch" app and service launched specifically with the Sensation wouldn't have been so great without it.
Has anyone else spotted this with BTFON signals out there or fixed it?
EtA
(Vodafone stock Sensation on 2.3.4)
I've got a stock O2 (2.3.3) Sensation and the Forget Network works with BT Openzone, which is good as I've never been able to get past the "enter your phone number" registration page with BT Openzone. Mine also doesn't automatically try to connect to open networks.
If BT wasn't such a scummy internet provider they wouldn't have their home broadband routers broadcasting as BT Openzone providers.
On stock as well and yes the phone automatically detects the network again after "forgetting" it, but does not auto connect unless I go and tell it to connect again. Not to sure why you're auto connecting after forgetting the network...
You know, this sounds like FUD to me. One post and a non-existent problem no one ever reported.
Forget network works just fine. The phone wont' connect to an open network at random.
If this is real it's got to be be user error.
More than likely just another PEBKAC error...

I'm laughing my socks off at your attempts to belittle me and my issue.
So you both think you are experts do you? How?..based on the number of posts or thanks you have received?
One post of a problem no one has heard of before is how a forum starts off.
Trying to be "clever" with acronyms is childish.
I have posted my issue to HTC and rec'd a sensible response. It is now being looked into.
But then you don't care because its just operator error.
I suppose you never knew that you couldn't input British postal codes into the 'people' app until the bug was spotted. I wonder you raised that first to HtC and then it got fixed...That's right...not you guys either. Too busy belittling members.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
Wish more Vodafone users had posted their experience, as I mentioned my O2 2.3.3 only auto connects to known networks and once connected to openzone I can't get past the page asking for my phone number
As an O2 customer don't you have free Cloud membership?
I used to with my iPhone...Go to McD's and whilst sitting inside connect...I'm sure it's still foc after popping in your phone number.
I thought I could use BTOpenzone as it is offered with Vodafone, but I have to pay seperately otherwise I can't get past the screen you mention either.
I do remember though that even with Cloud coverage my phone would at least download email. It was only browsing that would require passwords etc. Not sure wy this happened really though...seemed to be offering a cherry to tempt buying the cake I suppose.
BTW ...HTC have responded again saying that they are aware there are issues with Wi-Fi connectivity, specifically with baseband (radio) 10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M and software 1.45.161.1
They say they will issue "stability" fixes in the next release to vodafoneUK customers (and others UK carriers I presume) in the coming months...

Thanks for this.
Trouble is, that I don't have this application on my phone, although I confess I did at one time but that was two restores ago although it could I suppose have residual data on the SD card. I will check.
I have had a call from HTC Customer Support today as I gave my call experience a bad customer feedback score.
The issue will now be raised further for investigation the developers and they are going to inform me as to when the next update will come out...or at least that is what the guy said...I run a Helpdesk myself at work, so I realise the situation...but we'll see.
HTC have been honest and fair to me in the past so I have good expectations.
I'll report back...
BT Openzone issue
Had this problem myself. If you are on Vodafone then go to the "My Vodafone App", Click the WiFi Finder tab, press the menu key (next to the home button) and click settings. Untick "Enable BT Openzone" and your Sensation will properly "forget" BT Openzones.
Let me know if this helps.
@jengla Thank you very much! This worked perfectly. Been driving me crazy for months
Hi,
I have recently purchased a used OnePlus One 16GB Unlocked phone from CEX, and it looks and performs great. However, upon trying my SIM it shows No Service/emergency calls only.
Ironically enough emergency calls arent possible either. I'm with giffgaff, (O2's network) and it would not make/receive calls where I live (West-London). Tried a Lebara sim too, same results.
IMEI number is fine, checked with CheckMend. Faffed about with APN settings, manually connecting to the network, but while I'm home it could hardly find O2's network and even then it shows no service. (usually finds EE and Vodafone but I haven't got those sims.)
Took it to work today and it seems to be working "fine" at work. What I mean by "fine" is that I can make/receive calls, watch HD youtube videos no problem, but download speed from various websites and from the play store would be about 20kb/s and connection would drop every now and then. Switching between 3G and 4G makes no difference whatsoever. Also tried the *#*#4636 options but if I switch preferred modes it doesn't save, it defaults to whatever it wants to upon reboot.
It improves outside of work and it's pretty usable, but it drops just before I get home. This area does have bad O2 coverage but with my old Samsung Galaxy S2 and sh*tty Sony Xperia E1 I always get a decent signal even at home.
So originally when I thought it had a dead antenna, I thought I would return and get a replacement, but upon googling around I found that OnePlus is at war with O2s network on some devices, so I might have the same issue. Flashing isn't really an option as I've never done it and even though I'm within 30 days I don't think I should brick it.
At this point if I get a replacement I might have the same issue, if I change networks I might have the same issue. I have a hard time convincing anyone at work to lend me their sims for a day.
Any advice would be appreciated. :fingers-crossed:

Could be band issue, but as you say it works on work(outside home) then for sure the sim is compatible with OPO bands.
This issue can be fixed by changing firmware of the device.
I know it would be seem hard at first but it's worth the work.Flashing firmware can greatly increase your signal strength and likely to cop out any issues with data and calls.
But first you need to flash Custom Recovery Twrp and before that you need to unlock the bootloader of your device.
To start with,
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632
You don't need to do the root section, just the bootloader unlocking then flashing Twrp. Its easy.

Here's a firmware compilation thread just try them and use the one which suits your carrier the best.
Good luck
