browser scroll lag/smoothness - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

Hey guys,
I´m using the i9003 on 2.3.5. I recognize lags with the stock browser when I pinch or scroll. Using the opera browser it is so much smoother.
Compared to a i9000, the i9000 using the stock browser is smoother, too. The same compared to a i9100 (here even the menu tab scrolling is much smoother).
Is this normal? What can I do about it?

Why dont you consider downloading dolphin browser and set it as default?

No it's not normal, at least for me, doesn't lag on both stock middle eastern version and CM9 by dhiru.

ok so CM9 may be a solution. Does the stock browser lag using stock firmware?

i faced scroll lag on dolphin with stock rom and only on this site (xda developers)
but CM9 is just smooth....its the first visible difference i noticed on CM9...scrolling on this site seems really smooth....

Yep

Wow it lags in stock? That means the i9001 is clearly better than the i9003 since it doe not lag.

Not really.
It has a 1.4 Ghz Processor = Better (kinda, we can OC).
But we beat it in RAM, they can only use around 300~ RAM..
They have AMOLED we have SLCD screens..
Really depends, price here in qatar is the same, i took the I9003, the guy there told me it lasts longer (charge).

but I don´t get why the i9003 stock browser lags and the i9000 stock browser doesn´t!

how bout this...throw your phone on the wall and then check....you can try throwing it outside the window too(it worked for me)
dude..why are you comparing phones with different processors/gpu

Because everyone says there is no noticeable difference between the i9001 and i9003. It´s only the screen.
But obviously there is a huge difference! The i9003 lags, the i9001 doesn´t!

i9000 or i9001? i9000 has better screen, btr CPU, btr gpu and obviously will be smoother.

pretty interesting fact. Now I´ve got the i9001 and there is no lag. I cannot believe that there is such a big difference.

Look, it all depends on what ROM you are using and how the browser is tweaked, samsung released crap stock roms for the i9003.
Use CM9 and you will know how it is untouched by retarded samsung developers.

Desire Z or Nexus S??

Should I trade in my Desire Z for the Nexus S?
I'm mostly after browser speed and everyday performance
What happened to the nexus sense port? I had a galaxy S before and it was always slower to the original desire but with ginger on the NS it just might do the trick.
Are you guys satisfied with the NS especially coming from other android devices?
If browsing speed is your priority, I would suggest you wait a bit. Currently the stock browser is rather laggy.
Laggy even with overclock, custom roms (cyanogen, nscollab and infinity) ?
Does cyanogen have the auto text reflow function?
I use my Nexus S since 3 months. It's fabulous.
Choose the right ROM and Kernel! It will be smoothest!
Great experience during 2 days without any charge or FC.
GNS is a very nice device. Buy GNS and flash CM, then enjoy)
Nexus S all the way. Desire Z is old news. I'd rather choose Desire S
Personally it was a bad idea to ask for an advice in a nexus s forum . lol.
anyway, a fair answer for me would be, there is no big deal of a difference between the 2 phones. If you were to buy one of these, then i would have said nexus s but since you already possess the dz, then no need to make the change. speedwise they are the same. the difference maybe comes from the gpu but you said you are only for browsing experience. i think you should stick to the dz until you get something better.
you do have amazing devs back there... i am sure finding a good custom rom is not a problem.
Just 3 hours ago, SuperAOSP Rom created by SUPERTAMEL, has changed the whole browser system
No more lagging issue, just pure enjoyment of browsing
I guess, you come to Nexus S in the right time
Development on the Desire Z has pretty much stalled with the keyboard being the biggest limitation. Even the Desire has better roms for gingerbread. I've owned a SGS before and the browser was indeed a little slow so I should expect performance to be on par to that. The SGS wasn't that bad but I switched to the Z mainly because of the LED flash which is very important to me as a flashlight
What ever happened to the NS sense port? I was looking at some vids over at youtube and they looked really smooth with some minor issues and non working features but nevertheless usable! Was the 0.3 build the one that caused the problem with the IMEI? What exactly happened?
What's the difference in real life performance between SuperAOSP, INfinity and Cyan?
Netarchy is the best kernal option available right? In layman's terms, what does proton voltage do and how do I know what settings to use?
Thanks for helping a NS noobie

Well, sadly that Samsung has put the most important file "EFS" at a very insecure place. And, we never realise that until we find that Nexus Sense has "wiped" the whole EFS data too, making all the IMEI number being the same
So far everyone is trying to get it fix, not a single news yet, but soon

SUperAOSP, is the rom created with extra setting known as SupSetup
Infinity is created by Jonathan Griggs where he is very keen in ANdroid and added lots of different features.
Cyan 7 is the nightly build where different bugs and fixes are keep updated and fixed.
Kang's Cyan is the lighter and better version of Cyan 7.
Muiu is the Iphone version of Android (Use this rom if you like iOS interface)

Netarchy or Trinity. Both are equally good.
Both has OC and UV kernel.
Proton voltage let you customize the voltage you wanna set for each frequency and it's only usable for Netarchy kernel.

I come from a desire and i am very much dissapointed in the browsing experience of this phone. It's not hardware accelerated so rendering flash content or bigger images is a pain. If your only looking for that, better stick with the desire z. I've tried all roms btw and I always end up using opera mobile.

So no real difference in performance between cm7, kangs, infinity and superaosp except preference? What's the best rom for me if I need BLN and vibrate on call answer?
How do I know the best settings for photon? Or can I just use default?
Finally got my phone and this thing is wicked fast! I've never experienced a phone out of the box this good! Screen is yellowish as usual though Speakerphone volume is excellent as well!
Browser seems to be very good, not super fluid but good enough. Not as stuttery as my old SGS. Mighty tempted not to flash a custom rom because it's already very good!
Cm7 is recommended, it will change the experience totally and it has text reflow after zoom. I personally use the nightlies a lot but it's up to you, they might be laggy sometimes.

Or you can use mine too.
I tested and using it for 3 weeks haven had any reboots or lag.
-100mv for 100,200,400,800mhz

1400mv for 1300
1450mv for 1400

Thanks for the help guys really really big help I really really appreciate it!
The browser on superaosp is much smoother but I encountered some instances wherein it just would not scroll the page even after swiping the screen multiple times. Perhaps it's the way I swiped the screen? switching to my left hand which was holding the phone made it much better.
BLN and vibrate on answer working perfectly!

Im pretty satisfied with this phone at the moment, with my headphones on this thing can produce way better audio than any HTC phone I have tried. Bass is booming and vocals are rich.
My only quip is the battery which never reaches 100 percent like my old SGS. A calibration should do the trick..I hope.

best i9003 rom like i9000

hi there,
im lookin for best rom for i9003 which is smooth as i9000. i used xxkb3, xeke1, jpke1,xxkp9, xxkp7 and xxkpe. non of them smooth like i9000. i used lagfix and also usin ext4 fs now. but still its not smooth. any suggest appreciate. thnx.
edit.correction.i9003->i9000
Try out XXKPH, If you are looking for a GB version and XXKB3 for Froyo..They are most stable versions..You do not need lagfix on KPH! It is pretty fast!!!
Isn't this a more general topic than a dev?

What about removing Maps, It eats up quite alot of RAM. Any noticable glitches with it removed?
I have removed many applications like swype, aldiko , layar and replaced music player with the latest miui player and 3d gallery with the motion 3d gallery and many more
hi again,
@Misledz,
i know it is not dev topic but there is no general page for i9003. thats why i write here, im sorry.
i use maps and i think it has to run smooth with those programs, it has 1ghz cpu.
guys those two phones have same cpu and i really dont understand how is that difference. my friend has i9000, he doesnt install any custom-new roms, lagfix, battery saver, ram cleaner etc. still no has lag.
but my i9003 has ext4, same cpu, battery saver, ram cleaner and still has lag.
im really tired to try roms, installin programs again and again.
Mine's stock - no root, no ext4, etc. and i'm not experiencing any lag on XXKPH. Get rid of the "battery saver" and "RAM cleaner" and see how you go i guess.

Very true, those battery saver and clean up thingos drain battery and eat RAM and therefore slow your device down. Just keep a close eye on what you have running in the background (make running service shortcut on homescreen and stop apps you dont need at the time for example), have a simple taskkiller (i use advanced task killer) that autokills apps at user defined time intervals and close apps properly (using back-key and not homekey).
Should help a lot with the lag and increase batter time significantly.

[Q] Lag with new 4.0.4 ICS?

I'm suffering lag on my Nexus S i9020a after the OTA update to ICS. Most of the time the launcher lags when switching from page to page. However sometimes it will be completely fluid. It's strange... It goes away after boot but then it comes back again. I noticed that I don't get lag on the stock wallpapers..? Anyways, it's very frustrating. For example, right now my phone is running smoothly, but in a matter of minutes it will start to lag again..
Also I was rooted before the update and when I updated I lost root but still had the superuser app.. Could that have something to do with the lag or something?
Any help would be GREATLYappreciated.
THANKS
Anyone?? Please??
I never noticed stock 4.0.4 is smoother than 4.0.3 ... And 4.0.4 potentiolly slower a bit .... But for sure 4.0.3 was god damn smooth for me and no lag at all...BTW I don't keep too much stuffs and apps because I don like slow systems ... A reset to factory and wipe everything can be useful ...
And to tell you the truth , I am started to feel that this Nexus S is dying for me for its very inferior data capability , rediculus 200-300ms pings and awful DL and UL speed compaired to SII or the T mobile blaze 4G

I did a reset twice and deleted the superuser app and it's much smoother. I also stopped killing processes and that helped a lot too. (when you hold down the home button and swipe to get rid of the task)
From my research, I concluded that killing tasks actually slows down the phone in the long run.

Hi! Android has a method to kill processes when it's necesary but installing programmes like "Task Killers" just slow down the system much more (because it stays open in the background) and contradict with the method of Android!

I didn't download a task killer, however I used the built in task viewer to kill the apps and instantly I received lag. Had to reset my whole phone because the lag wouldn't go away.
Frankly I think it's an ICS thing, I get a bit more lag with ICS on the screensaver and such for a brief second or two. It tends to go away pretty quickly though, and scrolling is usually pretty smooth.

Here I'm using Steve Garon's kernel, for my phone was the best choice. I'm also switched the original launcher to Apex, there is no lag when tapping the apps drawer and you can set landscape mode in homescreen, I really like it!

Yeah hopefully.. hopefully it's not my phone acting up or anything. The worst lag I receive is when I open the app drawer. It's such a pain. It lags intensely for a couple of seconds and scrolling through the app drawer is a pain for the first few seconds. Hope this will be fixed in updates.
Try Apex launcher, quicker than stock and comes with tons of settings. I'm a perfectionist too and the lags when oppening the drawer and scrooling menus where gone.

Everything smooth except browsing

So I got myself a Galaxy Tab 2 7" after so much self convincing that I had the money for one. My first impression was not great though. The system menus were juddery and browsing on stock browser, Opera Mobile and Chrome were even worse.
After I compared my tab to a friend's same model I realised that this was as good as it would get. Curses Samsung and their bloat! What the heck have they done here?
So after two days I flashed to CM9 and saw the improvements immediately. System menus were rapid like I expected from a 1ghz dual core device and NOVA 3 basked in slippery wet graphics that turned a corner of my mouth into a defiant smirk.
But browsing? No.
There was a slight improvement to the fluidity in browsing with the stock browser, Opera Mobile and Chrome. But the experience can be annoying at times as the judder is still not acceptable. Okay, its more prominent when the webpage is still loading, but even when it's finished and there's another webpage loading in the background, the judder is still the same.
Some desktop sites force you to stop swiping until the device can catch its breath, that's after everything's loaded and flash and scripts are turned off. It doesn't make sense. Surely this little powerhouse can render HTML better than this?
Does anybody else see the same as I do and if so, is there a fix or work around for it? Its 1ghz of dual core power, for heaven's sake!
Try latest build of cm9 9.1 or try cm10 with project butter work good in this tab
Also try disable addons in browser setting (flash will not work) and see results you could return again and enable them
Also try in developer options force gpu rendering ticked
Also try metallice overclocked kernel you could flash cm again and remove it overwrite if you want

Which build are you using? CM9, CM9.1 or CM10? Do you get the experience I get?
I don't use addons as I am a minimalist and I tried Force GPU Rendering to no effect. Overclocking for me is a no-no as I just stick to stock CM.
Question is:- Does anybody else experience the same as me. Surely overclocking is a bit overkill when everything else is pucker?
I use cm10 latest build from www.teamhacksung.org for 5100 tab 2 and use overclocking kernel of cm10 just flashed the kernel it overclocks gpu a little and you could flash it and not overclock at all (only gpu not cpu) set cpu speed to 1008 mhz in setting/performance a little overclock not hurt much if device is hot will reboot

I think it's something to do with ICS.I noticed something like this on my overclocked wildfire s,but I attributed it to the phone being low-end.O/ced Gingerbread works fine, but ICS isn't too smooth.Try going back to Gingerbread for some time, and see how it works out.
