[Q&A] LTE Toggle Manually - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Good afternoon,
(ROGERS only) Thx to redpoint73 for pointing it out.
I've been seeing a lot of people wondering if LTE can be toggled off. In fact you can do it manually within the service menu.
To access the Service Menu from your HOX go to your dialer press
*#*#4636#*#*
This will bring up a selection of 4 choices. The one that were interested in is the first one called "Phone information", select it.
If you scroll down gently and go to the section called "Set Preferred network type" this will allow you to select the network type you want. In this case it should currently be set to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto" which enabled the LTE by default. Since I wanted to simply be on the most available Network (4G) I selected WCDMA preferred.
There you have it I've now toggle LTE off entirely.
Cheers!

It should be noted that this only works on the Rogers version. AT&T has their One X locked to "auto".

I unlocked my AT&T One X, and it appears I now have the ability to select which band. I have a T-Mobile sim in it now, and when I selected "LTE Only", I don't get service and can't make calls(obviously).

[THINK TANK] Turning off 3g allow only edge.

Okay i see on Samsung or ATT for some reason is only allowing 3g connections. When i had my nexus one i was able to use gsm only or gsm auto (prl) etc..
Wondering if anyone successfully been able to change the settings when you dial:

Off-topic, but: which clock/weather widget are you using? (sorry! But I love sense and just had to ask!)

could possibly be beautiful widgets
edit - it was fancy widgets
i would love to know where you got your wallpaper
Would love a solution. The standard *##info##** pulls up the admin (or whatever) menu but I access band selection it says access restricted. The menue where you can select WCDMA only or GSM/CDMA auto etc is accessible, but the change doesn't stick. I selected GSM only and then backed out but nothing happened. Killed radio and turn on again. Still on 3G. I tried the *#*#197328640#*#* as well with no luck.
If anyone can figure out how, by any means, lock the phone to GSM or enable manual band selection it would be much appreciated.

I found out that if you go into the dialer and type in *#*#197328640#*#* that it will take you into a menu that will allow you to change it. From the main menu of the ServiceMode screen, select DEBUG SCREEN, then PHONE CONTROL at the bottom, then UE STATE CONTROL. From there select CHANGE RAT TO WCDMA to enable 3G only, and select CHANGE RAT TO GSM for 2G only.
Click to collapse
This works, Just have to re do every time you reboot
I would also love to find a better solution to the switching- since I am now locked to a non-unlimited data plan!

A possible (temporary) fix to 3G toggle...

Saw this on the AT&T forums, not sure if it works though.

please excuse my ignorance, but what would be the purpose of this?
so that it dosent jump around from 3g 2g if its auto and your not using data it automatically defaults to 2g i think to save battery then switches to 3g oir hsdpa 3.5g or what att calls 4g on demand this keeps it locked on wcdma or 4g to my knowledge

seems like it reverts back to auto after a reboot
This makes the phone work on Verizon, right?

See that's what I thought too. ATT = GSM, Verizon/Sprint = CDMA.

Mine goes back to auto as soon as I back out of the menu. Am I doing something wrong by using the back button?
wouldn't this, by locking it, render the phone useless when traveling out of area that support that network?

I found this here in the forum someone posted and it worked for me thanks for him.

Here's an alternate method I puzzled out (and then afterward discovered it was already posted in thread 751237. It's a bit faster and has the advantage of surviving flight mode; still gets reset upon restart.
Dial *#*#2263#*#* (mnemonic: *#*#BAND#*#*).
This brings up the Band selection menu which you can also access from the above method by dialing *#*#197328640#*#* then going into DEBUG SCREEN > PHONE CONTROL > NETWORK CONTROL.
Select [3] GSM BAND
Select [1] GSM ALL
Select "Select GSM All Bands"
Menu key > END
To switch back, go to *#*#2263#*#* and select [1] AUTOMATIC > Select GSM &WCDMA All Bands > Menu key > END.
Something else I'm trying out is switching the acquisition order so when it is in "dual" mode, it'll try GSM first. Even so, it will still switch to 3g if there's enough signal. Seems to help keep it on 2G though, when it would otherwise cling to a faint 3g signal with 0-1 bars.
To do that, go into the NETWORK CONTROL menu (see above) then
Select [4] AQUISITION ORDER (yes they misspelled it)
Select [2] GSM->UMTS
Select "Select ACQ_ORDER_GSM_FIRST" (at least they abbreviated it correctly)
Menu key > END
This option does not get reset upon phone restart.

I did this and now my sms or text messaging don't work help
I had this happen too, but I didn't use the above method. Don't know what happened, but when I checked message settings, I had no number under "Message Center" did a quick google search and found an ATT number "+13123149810"...now it works again.
Did u call the number
Never mind i fixed it.but now in my network type it says umts is that faster then hsdpa and are there any other number sequences i can use to tweak my phone
I'm getting RAT restricted, which I got on my Vibrant but never my Captivate...
How can I change to show the different bands?
Sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G
wcdma and cdma have nothing to do with each other. wcdma is also known as umts, the base part of 3g (and 4g when hspa+). hspa is a protocol that runs on top of this cell technology providing higher data speeds. gprs (known as edge, and some times called gsm) is 2g. you can turn one or another off so the phone does not seek and connect to both services, which could save battery life. even though ive yet to see my phone find less than 3g/4g in houston, i still dont turn it off, just in case.

AT&T HTC ONE X - 4g setting disabled

Hello,
I recently bought a At&t HTX one X. It has a Unlocked Bootloader and i have also unlocked it so that i can use it with other Service Providers. But i found out that the 4g is always on and when i go into the network setting, the option Data Roaming is disabled.
I am loosing a lot of money because of this.
Under the mobile Network Settings i can only see 3 options .
1. Data Roaming [This option is disabled]
2. Access Point Names
3.Network operators
Can somebody please help me with finding a solution to get 4g disabled?
Thanks in advance
Go to dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*. Go to phone information, and pick wcdma preferred.
Sent from my One XL
ok cool.. now i see 4 options
1. Phone information
2. Battery information
3. Usage statistics
4. Wifi information
I went to phone information : - set the preferred network type as GSM only
Now i can see the 4g symbol disabled... great
But now i see the "E" symbol on.
How do i get rid of that ?
"GSM only" is this the right option i selected ?
more info
WCDMA preferred option is keeping the 4g active. i am a GSM user so tried GSM only and it worked. but the E symbol is still on.
4g = hspa (3.5g) 4g LTE = LTE
So wcdma preferred = cell and 3g
GSM/wcdma/lte = cell, 3g, LTE

This doesn't work on the AT&T version (and stock ROM), it will just go back to the default setting.
Only way to really shut it off is to flash a ROM with the LTE toggle.
thanks redpoint. can u suggest me a link where i can get step by step instructions to the rom you are referring to.
this has to get asked atleast 5 times a week since the phone came out

Enter *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer, tap Phone Information, scroll down to "Set preferred network type:", and make sure "LTE/GSM auto (PRL)" is selected. (If you're in the US)
Toggle to 3G and then back to LTE after you make sure your APN is correct. I had to do that on mine to get it to grab LTE initially, it's been fine ever since.
