Google Translator update 2.4 no longer works as a dictionary???? - Android Apps and Games

Today I installed the Google Translator 2.4 update (released yesterday 30 May) and... it's ****ing ****!!
I don't like the new UI but that's not the problem, the problem is that the definitions found for any given word searched are MUCH LESS detailed!! And the most important issue is that it seems to no longer works as a dictionary!!!!
Example: (I am Italian) if I search the English word "house" it's translated into the Italian "casa", if I set both the source and destination languages to English it used to give me a detailed definition (in English) of the word "house". No more!!!!
Unless I am doing something wrong Goggle Translator has just gone from one of the best online Translator (the one I used on both my Note and my Galaxy Tab 10.1) to an almost useless piece of crap!!
Waiting for what happens next, I have restored my backed up old version of Google Translator...
Any thoughts anyone?

I cant see any difference...everything is same like before update,exp.UI. Or I don't know what do you mean...
See scrn.

Yeah, except for the holo theme, I can't feel any difference either. Or maybe I just don't use it as a dictionary.

The old version has a setting (which translated from the Italian sounds like "Complete Dictionary") which was not checked, by default. You both probably hadn't that checked (and the new version has not this setting anymore) and I think this is why you are not seeing any differences.
Look what comes up translating from English to English the word "house". Try it on the new version, all you will get is... "house".

german keyboard, french os

Hi everyone
First of all, great forum here, I know it since some time and I'm also using a custom ROM for my Kaiser, but I think this is actually the first time I'm posting.
Let me explain my situation I am from Switzerland (and so is my company, where I am the Cell Phone Fleet Manager). Believe it or not, but in Switzerland, there are four official languages (German, French, Italian, and something called Romantsch which noone speaks).
Problem is that we're going to open an office in the French part of Switzerland (me and the rest of the company are located in the German part). And the employees there obviously would like to have phones.
Now, although they do speak French, they're not using a French AZERTY-Keyboard but a German QWERTZ-Keyboard. However, they want a French OS, and even worse, they want to be able to type all their freaky accents (é, à, è, ç, ...).
Now I checked back with HTC and they do not offer such a phone combinations. I also checked with our cell phone network providers, and they only offer the English phones in the French part... which leads me into trouble. What kinds of phones should i get them?
My idea is to buy German phones (that way I have the QUERTZ-Keyboad layout printed on the phone). Then load the French ROM and then load the German Keyboard driver back onto the French ROM. Question is: Is that possible?
Or do you have any better ideas?
Thanks
final
anyone ... ?

Any ideas how you can get accents to work on a FUZE keyboard? Someone developed an application that would do what i need, however I don't know how to re-map the SYM key to another one... I don't have it in my keyboard as a standalone key...
not quite sure if it will help.
I just overread the whole thread, but maybe you'll find somthing in there.

Onscripter for android (Visual Novel)

Here's a link for an onscripter port
http://forum.androidcentral.com/and...1-onscripter-android-visual-novel-engine.html
i tested it out with Narcissu, it works great!
but the text seems to bug, probably a problem of it being a port of the japanese onscripter.
Had a go at porting onscripter EN but its way over my head, couldn't get the NDK to compile properly.
It works!
This is so great!
Thank you a lot for this post!
I tested it just now on my HTC Desire (Gingerbread) and it works!
But I have also problems with the text... Any solutions?
It's a Japanese port, and was designed to work with Japanese.
Due to the difference in how Japanese and English are being used in computers (and obviously, our smartphones as well) it's impossible to use the original port.
For more information, search "Japanese language and computers" on wikipedia.
There seems to be an updated apk for english translations on this site.
You are ONScripter on Anroid
i try this one...thank you
humm, I've tried the most recent apk before and it worked. But to my opinion it was unusable because it garbled up the text.
This english version could proof to be a fix, I'll try this when I got some spare time.
What makes it different seems to be "ENABLE_1BYTE_CHAR" and "FORCE_1BYTE_CHAR" being enabled. If this is the only change, and it proves to be working, we could compile the latest version with these arguments.
I hope to see some progress on this, I like visual-novels a lot

How to add native language support?

Hi guys, this is my first thread in XDA!
Been lurking around a bit though the past couple of weeks and let me point out how amazing this community is!
OK so here is my query (sorry if this has been posted here before):
I'm a Swede, living in Sweden. I've ordered the SNS (my first android device so bare with me) from the USA and it should arrive sometime next week.
I know that the phone doesn't come with any support for the Swedish language. My guess is that they just want to make it harder for retailers to grey import the phone to a region where it shouldn't be sold (even though it will be sold in Sweden soon...).
So, is it possible to add support for the Swedish language somehow? (Keyboard, dictionary, system language...etc).
If so, how do I do it? I've seen some keyboard apps (pre-Gingerbread keyboard) for the Swedish language on the market but some of them don't work with Gingerbread and most of them seem to come with a lot of bugs (except for Swype). Also, I would need a dictionary, and the system language is nice but not crucial.
Isn't there a better way?
Thanks in advance guys!

Hi, a swede with the NSN here as well
To my knowledge, there are no way to get native swedish language support on the stock rom. The "nödlösning", that actualy works quite well is to use a third party keybord. I'm using Swiftkey, that has a swedish dictionary and swedish text prediction.
But if someone know about a way to get a swedish stock gingerbread keyboard, I would be delighted to hear.
Thanks for the reply
I guess I'll have to use either Swiftkey or Swype. If anyone knows another solution I would be happy to hear it

[Q] Language Problems with Motoman234 EVO Black&Blue Remix

Ok, though I am a relative noob, I managed to successfully install the Motoman234 EVO Black&Blue Remix (SD ROM) to my HTC HD2 and it is light years beyond WinMo 6.5.
The only thing that I have found is that, on setup, there is no option for English (US), the closest available is English (UK), which is what I selected. Just noticed that the barcode application is only bringing up results from the google.com/uk site though and all prices are in pounds. Are these tied together (cause/effect?) and if so, how do I resolve? I went back over the developer thread and did not see anything noting a language difference. Also searched the boards and don't see a solve out there (though I could have missed it)
Dev thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847631
Anyone have ideas?
well, should've continued to look for just a bit longer...just found this:
"Go to the Market and add MoreLocale2. It will add the additional English (United States) to your phone."
I applied the fix and all appears to be well.

[Q] European Stock Image for US WiFi Xoom

Hi all,
I have bought a WiFi Xoom in US but it's a gift for someone who doesn't speak English. Does anyone know where to download the stock image that contains Italian?
Many thanks!
Max
Bad news, not available and might not become available.
Two options: install a free kernel and add 0.5 language pack (major event)
or
use more locale app and change manually to "it US".
All apps will be in Italian, just the system will still be in English.

thanks hdtvpower!
nice app, I installed it, though for someone that does not speak one word in English and is new to technology in general (and not that young anymore ) even just the system settings in English could be a big issue. I guess I better return this device and get a European one.
thanks for your help.
