Sorry to hear it. the only program I know of that I can look at texts without the phone knowing is cerberus & that's only the least 8-10.
How does that work

Can't you see the to/from on your bill? I'm sprint and I can see this --not actual words but texts to/from numbers
Then use reverse lookup to get info, or google

it's actually an app that tracks your phone, can show call logs/texts, & what not. I use it in case my phone is ever stolen & it's way better than HTC's htcsense.com site.
for your case, you'd need to install it on her phone & then you can do with it what you want. There's a 7 day trial for it. If you send the command to get texts the phone doesn't know it. Also, you can make it hide the program from the app drawer so that it doesn't look like it's installed.
I know this isn't the intended use, but it may help you out

What can I do? Am I stuck with my current Rom for good? I like to switch back and forth to roms but now I only have 2 more left wth. Are you worried about your limit now?
Sent from my Sensation using XDA
https://play.google.com/music/ Click the gear in the upper right corner and goto settings and deactivate your old roms/devices.
You can only deactivat 4 devices a year now

Do you think someone will figure out a way around this?

Whaaaaa? When? How did you hear this?

I just deleted 6 about a week ago. I would be amazed if google, what with previously being fairly public about wanting manufacturers to leave their roms unlocked, would impose a limit per year unless they made a way for those new roms to be detected as the same device...
IMEI? or is there some range of privacy concerns or technical issues related to this?
I heard this news yesterday and tried it out myself, I was able to deactivate 6 devices no problem, so either they switched it back or they haven't changed my account's limit yet, but try to deactivate them now, there's no downside. Either they haven't changed your account yet, or they have and you are using up your four now, as opposed to when you need to.

so for the moment - http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2621412&topic=1663424&ctx=topic
hopefully either they will abandon this strategy (and not make it go the way of google movies) or they'll come up with a very clever way of getting around it.
I personally re-downloaded my entire collection and am back to storing them on my microSD card - less data to use, and no more worrying about activating/deactivating too many devices.

If it is grayed out then your not gonna be able to do anything..... the developer of the rom you are using had greyed it out because its not working probably.... my best suggestion (though I am not a sensation user) is to see if there is another rom available with this feature working if it is important to you

The facial recognition is overrated in my opinion anyways. the concept is cool, however most of the time it can't recognize you based on lighting, so you wait for a while then end up enter a pin code anyways.
Are you using something that requires credential storage, ie VPN, 802.1x? That would force you to enable stricter security (no facelock)
I'm on stock, no VPN settings.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
may not work
it unlocks sometimes when my brother uses his face but i use ordroid so that is one way to get it
This means your ROM doesn't have that feature yet, and so I suggest changing ROM, I am currently running Virtuous Inquisition, and couldn't be more happy with it.

Some applications disable the face-unlock feature. For instance, if you area connected to a Microsoft Exchange Server and the administrator has turned on security settings it automatically locks out face recognition and screen patterns.
Settings -> Security -> Device Administrators
That will tell you if there are any other device admins / policies attached to your phone
This is a widespread issue among thunderbolt users, but I haven't seen a thread here yet.
I haven't accepted the OTA update from earlier this week, but last night my phone booted with what I assume was a update. Now, any URL can only be directed to the Web browser, not an individual app (for example, Google play links link to the play website, not the app. Same with youtube links). There's not too much out there about it, but from what I've seen, this is due to a new patent lawsuit from apple directed at HTC. Apparently HTC laid down and just removed the function. This is terrible and pretty much ruins the phones functionality.
As of right now the only work around I've heard of is custom roms. Personally I don't have that option as this is a corporate phone. Has anyone heard anything or does anyone have any ideas for a work around? I imagine what would work would be a fake "browser" that you would set as the default and just would reroute to apps, but I certainly don't have the developing know-how to make such a thing.

With the HTC One series, there's a new "App Associations" menu that allows you to assign what apps will be used for various link types... is there no equivalent in the new OTA update for the Thunderbolt?
After the update there is that setting in the applications menu under settings
Sent from my HTC Mecha using XDA
This is frustrating.
I updated to the software update and regret it to the fullest extent. Now NO videos of Youtube open in the app. This is a headache.
There is a new "apps association" menu in settings now, under Applications menu. But there is NO option to set YOUTUBE as a default like it used to be with ease.
Anybody here have a way around this??
What I found is using Opera Mini helps this by making it one less step to open videos in the app. But still miss the old direct way.
Help people!!
This is due to the patent judgment against HTC by Apple. The same judgment that recently delayed the release of the One X and the EVO 4G LTE. This feature will be removed in all future HTC releases.

I went with browser swap, but that doesn't really help with YouTube links. Maybe someone will stand up and code an app?

You can't. Apple patented the tech, all they will do is go after a new developer of such an app. Your best bet is to root, run titanium backup, and flash a custom rom that is based on an older Thunderbolt ROM if you want the feature back.

Unlocked, yes. Able to be rooted without an exploit, yes. With root enabled, no. I no longer log in on a admin account on my laptop for security reasons. The "default"use account should not have root

That's not exactly some HTC key/core feature. It's in every Android phone and part of the Android source itself. Even the Galaxy Nexus does it. It's not even a phone specific feature. PCs have done it for years using file://some-local-filesystem-point and using sockets to link apps to other apps. That's all Android does pretty much. Since everyone should be rooted on here (the thunderbolt is painful if you don't), it doesn't affect anyone.
Also I see no source links in your post. Means nothing if you can't link to something verifiable.

Apple said they should be the only one to make a smartphone and they are using the patent system to their advantage. I don't like it anymore then anyone else. Perhaps we should all send a letter to waz for him to become.the.next apple ceo and chairmen. He also uses android

I just bit the bullet and entered all my shifts into Google Calendar. My shift pattern repeats after 10 weeks, so although it took me a little while to get those first ten entered, the "repeat every xx...." function in Calendar means I never have to mess around with it again.
Also, having it in my calendar means that Google Now can give me reminders when to leave for work early if, for instance, the traffic is bad that day.
Plus, if I ever move away from Android (unlikely) then my Calendar can come with me, no issues - rather than facing the same problem which you have now.
To actually display my calendar I like Calendar Pad's widget. Also I have Calendar Status Pro in my notification shade, which is handy because I have a constant reminder of calendar appointments every time I pull down the shade.
I'm always interested in trying out new solutions if they can provide better functionality though, so I'd be interested to hear what other people use too
That's an idea I had already contemplated but my shifts change every 5 weeks. I used an app on the iPhone called 'Shift worker' made by a company called production shed. I've emailed them to see if they have the same app available for android but I highly doubt it! Shame a dev couldn't come up with something that we could really make great use of! All the apps I've saw just look mega complicated. Might need to resort to Google calendar though and integrate it with Google now.
