you have over a thousand posts and youre asking that? lol. but no. it wont. Theyre two separate phones and the exploit probably is patched in d2
Wow I'm dumb...besides being 2 completely separate phones, the d2 is froyo. That's like asking if the Droid 1 or Droid incredible root method would work.
I hope it gets rooted soon. Im planning on getting it September or October , but It will be hard for me switching from a fully rooted and s-off Droid Incredible.

I'm thinking the same thing... I currently love my rooted Incredible but at the same time I wouldn't mind a Droid 2 with Game Gripper for awesome nostalgic gaming on the go!
My DInc w/custom ROM is the better phone overall, but I'm keeping the D2 most likely, because I love the keyboard.

It has the aiccucs ROM. Tried SkyRaider and CM6, found aiccucs to be most stable.
I hope that eventually I'll be able to try some custom ROMs on my Droid 2.

Hey everyone! I have recently obtained an EVO Shift and will be making lots of how to videos for it! I do see there are a lot of written guides, but no videos. I did make many how to videos for the Samsung Epic and I got such a wonderful response from everyone, I figured I would expand to different devices.
Please post suggestions to future videos in this thread, or PM me!
I will be posting more how to videos very soon

I believe one of the recent prl updates lost 3G data when roaming. Only reason I see to swap prl, at least for me..

Well with sprint they have 2 separate PRL lines, being able to go to the business prl or an older national one is pretty nice. Especially since sprint roaming currently sucks

Currently there is only temporary root for 2.3... that means when you reboot you will lose root access.

I am looking to get a new phone this weekend, and I'm leaning toward the Shift. Any advice for a new owner? I saw a thread that there is an OTA Gingerbread update, but that there is only "temp root" (not familiar with that - I guess maybe root that only lasts until you reboot??). Should I try to get them not to update my phone in the store so that I'm still on FroYo? Anything else I should know as a prospective Shift owner?
Yes temp root will only last till you reboot. Then you have to do it all over again . As to where to go to get your Shift, try to go to a place that doesn't sell a lot of them. That way you have a better chance of getting one that is on Froyo. Also make sure you have them power it up, and check for yourself that it reallly is 2.2 ( Froyo ) . Then tell them not to update it. If whatever place you choose says they have to update it, just say no thanks. They do not have to. The places so far that I've seen that you have a better chance are Wallmart, Target, Costco, and Sams Club. Hope that helps .
Well, unfortunately, I'll be going to Best Buy, since they have it for free with upgrade right now. Is the temp root complicated and involved?

I assume your talking about GB Temp Root. Haven't had occasion to try the Temp Root method for 2.3 yet. But you can try this thread.
It's not just that with 2.3 you'll only have temp root and have to reroot upon reboot. You also won't be able to flash any custom ROMs.
^ Shift Faced
Don't buy it unless it has 2.2.
what version of sense does the new 2.3 ROM have on the shift?

Stock 2.3 has Sense 2.1 out the box. If your using one of the custom Sense Gingerbread ROMs, most of them are Sense 2.1 with some Sense 3.0 aspects.

HUH ?????
I don't see what was confusing about what that guy wrote. He suggested that I go to Radio Shack so I could get a Shift with 2.2, and if I wanted, I could get full root on it. He, however, went ahead and took the update to 2.3 because he is willing to wait for root on that. I'm confused by your confusion.

The confusion comes in where he says he took the ota and will wait for it to be rooted. There's absolutely no advantage to rooting Gingerbread over froyo. There are stock rooted ROMs that if flashed would be exactly like running a rooted stock Gingerbread. He's free to do whatever he wants, just seems pointless to me.

You should've posted this in Q&A or General. This is the dev forum. (Just saying it before hand everyone else does)
But there are root methods. Since he just picked one up, it probably has 2.3 Gingerbread on there.
You will have to follow the Downgrade to froyo method. Then root using the GUI Tool. That's the only method for gingerbread.

well if it is the new Evo Design 4g aka Kingdom that was release oct 23rd then it is a locked down phone with a signed bootloader. You will need to get into contact with these gentlemen http://revolutionary.io/ as they will be your only chance of getting true root
You might want to check this thread [UTIL][ROOT] KingdomScriptv1.0 Root and more for the Evo Design 4g
I know this isn't the lg mytouch thread, but there isn't one. I ordered 2 of these phones as a test order I couldn't cancel, but was pleasantly surprised at the solidness of the device. Very thin and light, and solid enough build quality. Screen is AMOLED sharp.
I need to use the hotspot therefore I need root. But it doesn't look like people even acknowledge the phone's existence.
any Ideas?
Which OS version is it running, to begin with?
If the bootloader isn't locked - you have a shot by using one of the temp-root methods and pushing Superuser.apk+su.
If the bootloader is preventing write access to /system partition - you'll need to wait until someone creates a method to unprotect the /system. And it might take a lot of time...

I am kinda new to this but would this work on totally different phone I mean yes the original HTC Glacier AKA MyTouch 4G and HTC Vision AKA G2 were kinda the same both made by HTC but these phones the LG MyTouch and LG MyTouch Q are totally different and besides the LG MyTouch do not have a 2.2.1 rom out there, also I do read this thread so I do thank you for the help earlier but I just want to clarify if it will work on ANY 2.3.4 rom thanks again
It can't be said for sure - since nobody tried it yet. But it works on other chipsets - fr3vo was originally made for Evo 3D and Sensation. So, since no harm can be done by trying it (the worst you can get is having to reboot the phone), why not to try?
Instructions for rooting the LG MyTouch and MyTouch Q can be found here:

Lol. You posted these same questions on Android Central. At least that was in the right forum.
Without a custom kernel there aren't a lot of options with setcpu to save battery. What are your available governors?
One thing you might do to save battery while the phone is asleep is make a sleep profile that locks the max somewhere between 300 and 400 mhz (if possible).
