I know this isn't the lg mytouch thread, but there isn't one. I ordered 2 of these phones as a test order I couldn't cancel, but was pleasantly surprised at the solidness of the device. Very thin and light, and solid enough build quality. Screen is AMOLED sharp.
I need to use the hotspot therefore I need root. But it doesn't look like people even acknowledge the phone's existence.
any Ideas?
Which OS version is it running, to begin with?
If the bootloader isn't locked - you have a shot by using one of the temp-root methods and pushing Superuser.apk+su.
If the bootloader is preventing write access to /system partition - you'll need to wait until someone creates a method to unprotect the /system. And it might take a lot of time...
Runs 2.3.4
No way really to tell if it's unlocked bootloader. Superoneclick and gingerbreak didn't work
Sent from my LG-E739 using XDA App
2.3.4 can only be temp-rooted by fr3vo.

If no bootloader lock, then it might be enough.
Now I'm out of this thread.

I am kinda new to this but would this work on totally different phone I mean yes the original HTC Glacier AKA MyTouch 4G and HTC Vision AKA G2 were kinda the same both made by HTC but these phones the LG MyTouch and LG MyTouch Q are totally different and besides the LG MyTouch do not have a 2.2.1 rom out there, also I do read this thread so I do thank you for the help earlier but I just want to clarify if it will work on ANY 2.3.4 rom thanks again
It can't be said for sure - since nobody tried it yet. But it works on other chipsets - fr3vo was originally made for Evo 3D and Sensation. So, since no harm can be done by trying it (the worst you can get is having to reboot the phone), why not to try?
Instructions for rooting the LG MyTouch and MyTouch Q can be found here:

Lol. You posted these same questions on Android Central. At least that was in the right forum.
Without a custom kernel there aren't a lot of options with setcpu to save battery. What are your available governors?
One thing you might do to save battery while the phone is asleep is make a sleep profile that locks the max somewhere between 300 and 400 mhz (if possible).

hello
i have a new stock inspire 4g and i was thinking of rooting not sure yet. i used to have a samsung vibrant which had unknown sources option available thats pretty much all i would root the phone for im not interested in flashing or anything i would just like to use amazon market and some other apps. using a sideloading app would not work beacuse i wouldnt be able to install from amazon. i was reading and wanted to know if it where posible without making a goldcard using attn1 step 2 script (hackerize-ace setup-downgrade which if im not mistaken it will give you temp root until u reboot without having to actually downgrade) just imput in cmd prompt something to enable unknown sources? i dont need the option to be available in applications just want it to be enabled. if this is not possible and my only choice is to root then ive been reading some issues on rooting and wanted to make sure. if i use bubby's method would i loose sound like on attn1's method? im not planning on flashing anything after that so i will not lose hsupa? at the end of the rooting process what will i have the stock rom rooted with all att apps or the downgraded desire rom? and last how do i unroot and/or return to stock after this? again asuming i use bubby's method. thanks for all help in advance and sorry for all these questions i have done some reading on this great forum and wanted to make sure i understood correctly before doing anything

Check out my guide, it has a side loading apps section. You cannot root and s-off with out making a gold card. You can use bubby's GUI but its the same process essentially. If you haven't rooted you don't hsupa anyways, and only "some" people loose hsupa. After you root you will have a stock rooted inspire rom with att bloatware still installed. Also in the guide as well.
I like you didn't really want to root this phone... I had a captivate prior to this and never really bothered installing different roms. Basically just used andromeda.
But seriously, rooting this phone is much easier than it looks. It's just takes a min
There are also some pretty sweet roms floating around.

You'll need to flash a custom rom/kernel for the volume fix unless there's a Froyo version of something like this floating around somewhere that you'd just be able to sideload.

It's a great phone out-of-the-box, no doubt about it, and there's nothing wrong with waiting a while before rooting.
Learn how the phone behaves normally, make sure there's no manufacturing flaws, etc.
Chances are, though, seeing as you have already identified the limitation of being unable to side-load, you will eventually root.
It's a piece of cake, as long as you have your head clear and follow the process to the letter.

You need to read mudknot's stickied guide front to back several times. The best advice anyone can give you on it is read, read, read, and read some more. The process is not complicated, but is not easy by no means. It will happen if you read, be patient, don't rush, and follow the steps precisely.

Everyone is correct. Reading first will help things go a lot smoother. I would recommend attn1 hack kit. You have a lot of roms to choose from. Just take your time. If you really get stuck or don't understand then ask.
I agree. Read and one click

Root password?
Im trying to follow the Ace Hack Kit (v11), but when I try to run the hack-ace.sh code, it asks me for the root password, which I don't know and can;t find anywhere online. I feel like an idiot for asking, but what is it? Ive been searching for hours.
Im running OS X 10.6.6, and the phone is Kernel version 2.6.32.21-g6a5ff14 [email protected] #1, if that helps at all.
Im new to rooting, Ive been a Jailbreaker until I just switched to Android. I understand everything in the hack guide, just cant get past the simplest step it feels like. Someone help me out?
And sorry for putting this on someone else's thread... it wouldnt let me post an original for some reason.

Lol. Man the keyboard really had it in for you on that one.
I like "blowy" though. It's a refreshing change.
I have had two inspires and on my first one I used Bubby's rooting program only because it did not require the use of command prompt as much as the Hack kit did at the time, but on my second inspire I used the hack kit because that has truly been turned into a fool proof way of rooting and it seem's that bubby has abandoned his rooting program because it has not been updated for sometime. The hack kit does it all for you all you have to do is tell it what you want done by entering either a 1,2 or a 3 and it does the rest.
As for rom's I use the Coredroid because it is closer to the HTC stock sense and Surgio keeps up on the updates and the bugs also.
I'm on my first Android with the Inspire and rooted a few days ago using the hack kit... it was very simple and all went well. I've gone through a few roms already, probably didn't give each enough time but wanted to find something I liked and now ended up with GingerBeast. There is a problem with GPS though with Gingerbread but if you look for gingerbread gps fix it can be taken care of easily.
You should give each rom at least a week to see how it works, there is a wierd thing with rom's they need a couple of days to settle in to the phone and to see how the battery and everything else work with that certain rom, that is why I have chosen one rom and have stuck with it through two inspires, I have found coredroid to be the best rom for my purposes and none other fit the bill.
I am also new to Rooting of my inspire, but not a noob to android by anymeans. I searched and searched through and through the thread with the simple one click root. I understand what it is that i need to do.
But for the life of me, i cannot get the simple one click root application to download and install on my computer. I have my antivirus and all off, firewall turned off. I download the file, it starts extracting and unziping. Then it goes to installation. The green bar at the bottom gets up to about 90% full, then the entire screen just closes by itself and thats it.
Restarted my computer 4 times and tried it again 4 times last night with the same results. SO i guess my question is not going to be how to root, i think i got a grasp on that one, but can someone point me in the direction of a different link for the one click app or lend some advice of how i can get it installed.

I had the same problem with my old XP laptop. I studied for a month, was sure I had my PC set up correctly. And Bubby's just would not run on my PC. Ended up using the hack kit which worked. One thing they do say to make sure you have the latest .FrameworkNet and Java consoles installed, for something to check.
Thanks for the response. It is appreciated. I did do those updates amd still no luck. Guess its the hack kit for me.

You only need the first page - the rest is just random posts.
Google 'flash a custom ROM on Android' to get more info on the actual flashing procedure but I wouldn't do ANYTHING until you understand what it is you're doing
If you need to ask if you need to flash a certain rom then the answer is NO, you do not need to flash.
There's a learning curve on how to do it, and do it correctly, learning how to go back to stock, and also upkeep of the rom (flashing everytime it's updated)
What's wrong with your phone right now that you want to put a ROM?
Don't feel like you need to put a ROM just because other people are doing it.
Your rooted and S-off already right?
I flashed my tmobile to revolution hd the first day I got it. This site is really helpful with all its guides. I did the whole thing in less then 24 hours and before this phone I knew next to nothing about android an s-off etc. If you read the guides properly I dont think its possible for you to screw up.
P.S I use mine in Canada with mobilicity, but I am guessing u r with tmobile.
Have to ask, but why did you root your phone? Did you actually have a reason to or did you do cause everyone else did and it 'looked cool'?
I'm not having a go but rooting actually isn't needed. The Sensation out the box is a great handset. The ONLY reason I did was to remove the bloat I don't use (including most of HTC's widgets). If HTC were to release a phone that allowed this without root I'd have no reason to - even if I could

Im not going to lie but i did it cause everyone else was doing it and seemed like the thing to do... Since doing that I have actually learned a lot... Its the greatest thing when you can take a phone and COMPLETELY make it your own from the rom that you have on there to the splash screen and the boot and down animation... Knowing its there because thats what YOU want there not what HTC or your carrier wants there is the greatest gift... Its YOURS.
See, there you go. Not a good example for a 'should I root' question
Fair enough, you've learnt now but you'd look like a bit of a tit if you'd bricked your phone without knowing how to reverse it.
Word to the OP - READ EVERYTHING
Do not attempt to do anything until you know what you're doing. OK, there are some things you can only learn having done a few things but for the most part build up your confidence by understanding everything the guide(s) tell you
I agree with mr. burglar I did it because of all the modification options. I just like things different. If I could change the rom in my toaster I would.
Well I have had a fair amount of experience jailbreaking iphones... I know that its nothing like rooting a droid... I did not root blindly either... I came about doing myself cause I did some research I saw that the evo was being rooted and they said it was the same for the Sensation... I found a really great detailed video in two parts on you tube of how to do this step by step so there was going to be no error... Not only that there are lots of people on craigslist i could have paid to root... I took the chance... well no some a chance but I was certain that I would have no problems with doing this it was a 15 minute or so journey that came out just fine
I wanted to try flashing my Rom because I have read that after flashing with android revolution made their phone faster and battery last longer.

well cant argue against trimming the extra fat which is kinda slowing down the phone. Nothing like a lean mean calling machine.
Without root, you can't get rid of Sense. CM7 is so fast! Add a Faux kernel and see everyone else including the SGSII in the rearview mirror.
This was the video that i used to root my HTC Sensation... The video is for the Evo 3d but it also works for Sensation too... Watch first and decide wether or not you want to proceed

i rooted my phone just to get rid of the bloatware. i like play around with the stock rom first than move on to a custom rom.
if you are serious about rooting i sugest you read the guide several times before you continue. if you have any questions there are many here that will help you. i also like to add that it would be a good idea to check what rom you are using now and download the .ruu for it and keep it in a safe place. i have seen several questions here of someone trying to return their phone back to stock for warranty, exchange, or what ever reason they want to return back to stock but they dont know what rom they had before flashing. so download this ruu first before trying to flash a different rom. it will save you the hastle.

Hey Guys, my girlfriend loves her Evo Shift 4g but her mother wouldnt pay the sprint bill so she moved to MetroPCs.
I mean she really loves her phone and she wanted me to check if I could flash it over to MetroPCs.
I've browsed through and search many times through many forums for a way to find a proper tutorial for me to flash it.
I did find one: HTC Evo 4G MetroPCS HOW TO!
This link is for the Evo 4g. I would like to know if I could use this same tutorial for Evo Shift 4g.
Also currently the phone is deactivated, since Its bill wasnt payed and its been around 2 months, will this phone be properly shifted to MetroPCs? Incase of a bad ESN or such?
I have fully Rooted the Evo Shift 4g down to 2.2 S-off.
Could someone provide any help? I will provide any other information needed.

Themomo, its not as simple as Vicodan said. MetroPCS doesnt want any phones that are from other carriers on their service. I'm pretty sure that if you go to a MetroPCS store, one of the associates will tell you this "I can try to flash the phone for you, but the only things that will be working is talk and text" then after a few mins, the lame brain associate will tell you that they couldn't put it on their database. What you need to do is go on craigslist and find someone who can flash phones to metro, they will charge you about 60-70 dollars and everything will be working except mms. After your phone is flashed to metro, you will need to fix your mms issue, use this guide and everything will be working http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332625 . I should know, my shift is on Metro

Thanks a lot Vicodan. I'll look into getting those done and posting my progress.
Also You noted on your tutorial that when you've finished rooting you should be on 1.07 which is fine. After I update the Radio, should i also update the Wimax to 27240?
Just taking precautions. I might just update to it anyways.

27243 is for Evo not the Shift, flash 1.08.01.0111/27243, fastboot will skip 27243
So Vicodan, Should i be worried about the wimax 27243? Since it skips it im not sure.
Also Its fully setup on newSense RC2. Pretty neat. So now should i head over to MetroPCs and ask for a Metro Flash?

No don't worry about 27243. HTC screwed up when they released the OTA and included the Evo Wimax radio. It's fine that it skips it. The latest Wimax radio for the Evo Shift is 27240. 27243 is for the Evo 4G.
So cellular: 1.08.01.0111
Wimax: 27240
Are latest for Shift.
And I would read through some of the MetroPCS guides on here and then go to the MetroPCS store.
DO NOT pay more than $10 for a flash.
Themomo, if you do get your phone flashed to Metro for $10 or less, do let me know. It cost me $50 to get mine to metropcs by tricking the guy who did mine.

I can imagine me running into incompetent people. So Also should go ahead and pre use this tutorial to go ahead with my phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8395950#post8395950
or should i walk into a MetroPCs store and let them take care of it (Hopefully)
@Xbugzx I will post how the deal goes.

You should READ the multiple threads about Metro PCS on here, the posts by other people in this thread and then go in to the Metro store. Keyword here is READ so you can educate yourself before going in to the store to prevent any problems.

Moving to Q&A
Ok, so having transferred back to Sprint after an arduous ordeal with Verizon, I now have my new LG LS840 'Viper'[A.os v2.3.3] and have rooted the system. This was definitely not my preferred choice (I wanted the HTC Evo LTE), but it seems like you all got to them first. Now having said this, I find it alarming how few (if I manage to find any @ all) posts there are about the above mentioned LG.
I have run into a few problems. As in things like; I have root and su# capability. System apps. which require root seem to work fine(i.e. mem. optimizers and CPU controls etc.). That is until I try Clockwork Recovery which sends the device into reboot. Also, trying to access the bootloader in the common android fashion (Pwr+Vol.Dn) does nothing more than send me to a 'Factory Data Reset' option.
Now please understand that I am new to LG, as all my experience is with HTC, both at Sprint prev.(HTC EVO 4G wi-max) and at Verizon (HTC Thunderbolt LTE) I think I simply got conned into this fone.
So, If any one reading this post has any experience with the LG Viper, or any other LG device, or both (preferably), Please, give me the run down on how these devices work or any input on the above listed issues.
Also, any links to information (etc.) will be highly appreciated.
Thank You, JLM
p.s.
I should also probably mention that I rooted the device using the SuperOneClick method listed @ Androidcentral.com
I have LG P509 Optimus T to access recovery home, volume up and power. I'm using AmonRa 3.0.6 but same button combination for Clockworkmod recovery.

Have you installed a cutom recovery yet? You will need it to flash rom's and make backups.

Not yet. I thought that S1C would load it. I have currently found a user program that is supposed to work with LG viper. I have yet to try and run it. Here is the url address http://d-h.st/GFZ. with a little more time maybe I can have it worked out.

Perhaps I should mention that the SuperOneClick version I used successfully was v.1.7 and not the v.2.3.3 that is listed in the Androidcentral Forum. With v.2.3.3 it always froze trying to load Superuser.apk
I jut got one of these todays. Cannot figure out how to get to the boot-loader yet.

^^ boss
LG
LG is a good brand was thinknig of getting it
I've had this phone for about 6-8 weeks now and still cannot find any roms to flash.
Jelly Bean release
I get the feeling the Viper is suffering because of LG's decision to release it with GB when ICS had been available for so long. Maybe there's some light at the end of the tunnel. I did find at least one rumor saying it will get a Jelly Bean Update in the Sept/Oct time frame. It might be enough to get some interest back into the device. Without some interest on the part of Devs, this isn't going to move much at all. It might already be past a critical adoption time too.
Since I'm a noob, I can't post a link, but go ahead and Google:
List of AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile Phones that will get Jelly Bean
Its actually a pretty slick little device for the price. Can't beat free

I'm quite disappointed with this phone and the lack of development. It's been a great phone despite the fact that something fried inside my first one, and now my 2nd may be suffering from the same thing. I might keep this phone as a spare and upgrade to something better soon.
I'll have to agree with earlier, this little thing (my main is a SII Epic 4g Touch) is not bad. My girl had got one, said she was having problems so I switched, giving her my Photon 4g, but since I've had it, and rooted it, I haven't had a lick of problem out of it. One thing that has surprised me is also the what has seemed an extreme lack of support on it (I've had a custom rom on every one of my phones since my first cappy 3 years ago). Another is the external speaker....my goodness!! this thing is twice as loud as my SII....of course LG has been slowing falling off the bandwagon, but somehow holding on in the android race. And tho I'm a Galaxy S freak, this phone is alright. For free, a hell of a deal.

from what ive found on the internet the only way to have custom roms on the lg viper is to flash back to GB with the lg flashtool and then flash a rom. I think the bootloader is locked and that's why you cant do anything with it. I haven't tried to unlock with any programs or anything cause I don't think im that advanced but if you want to try go ahead. this is all just info ive gathered from the internet though. I have managed to root ics zvk though. just don't freeze or uninstall google play movies and tv. it gives a security error.
if you want to root zvk follow these steps though;
1) install lg flashtool and flash phone to zvi
2) root with Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v15
3) install ota root keeper(voodoo ota rootkeeper)
4)temp unroot in ota rootkeeper
5)install update to zvk
6)restore root in ota rootkeeper
7)enjoy!!!
It's late, but I'm playing with it. I'm using a thread to summarize what I find.
