you have over a thousand posts and youre asking that? lol. but no. it wont. Theyre two separate phones and the exploit probably is patched in d2

Wow I'm dumb...besides being 2 completely separate phones, the d2 is froyo. That's like asking if the Droid 1 or Droid incredible root method would work.
I hope it gets rooted soon. Im planning on getting it September or October , but It will be hard for me switching from a fully rooted and s-off Droid Incredible.

I'm thinking the same thing... I currently love my rooted Incredible but at the same time I wouldn't mind a Droid 2 with Game Gripper for awesome nostalgic gaming on the go!

My DInc w/custom ROM is the better phone overall, but I'm keeping the D2 most likely, because I love the keyboard.

not dumb at all, EasyRoot app works on the Original Droid even with the froyo update. But yes it has been patched

It has the aiccucs ROM. Tried SkyRaider and CM6, found aiccucs to be most stable.
I hope that eventually I'll be able to try some custom ROMs on my Droid 2.

Does this phone have an encrypted bootloader like the Milestone and the Droid X?
Yes, hopefully with the Droid2 and DroidX being the same way as the milestone, more people will try to open them up. The milestone had a lack of support thanks to the droid being open
yes the d2 has an encrypted bootloader & efuse same as the dx

Will the "one click" root for DroidX work on the Droid 2 as well?
Thanks
i would think not considering the Droid 2 is 2.2
Can confirm that universal androot and easyroot do not work for Droid 2, tried them today and they failed, won't brick you though. But yes those exploits were patched with Froyo.
thx for that

Thanks for that, you saved me 15 minutes. But let me try too.
don't use one click method instead try cmd and make changes as you go along
once they get custom roms on the X there will most likely be roms on the D2.
rootable does not equal free bootloader!
A encrypted bootloader = no custom roms!!
know your stuff people..

Encrypted bootloader = no custom kernels. Custom roms with stock kernels aren't out of the question.
dont you think we can flash a different bootloader on these things? i'd like to think that we can do it if we put our mind to it.
one of the reasons i love my droid1 (or Droid OG if you like) is that i can overclock it and keep it top of the line. i would hate to see this eliminated.
but i am confident we will find a way! there is a will so.....

So does the D2 having Froyo effect the recovery image? Could a fake OTA method be used similar to the HTC devices with the 2e recovery? I'm just thinking here please don't clown me.

that is a rom you want to flash. we are talking about the bootloader which would allow us to install custom kernels.

Possibly not....i have an incredible and i am looking into switching and i doubt our method will work fpr you guys....from what i understand, the bootloader can ONLY FLASH MOTOROLA SIGNED ZIPS. I guess there is noexception for that rule.....i would check out if the dx exploit is or is not patched in the d2........then it will be smooth sailing from there!

Milestone guys been looking for that solution for like a 1yr now? so im asuming someone gave up somewhere along the road...
So chances are like 1 in a million trillion chances, that the private keys gets public, so we can sign the bootloader ourself... its like having a smart card for Sky1 and extracts all the keys, which happened once as the employee went to the competitor, so i guess a Motorola employee has to go to HTC so we can get the keys lol
and hacking the key is like waiting for Milestone 53 coming out in 2025...

why wouldn't you just root your evo? 2.3 has been out for a while, I'm using it on my sprint hero.. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for sprint to update to 2.3
I might be kicking a dead horse but I don't really like the design of the Echo; the idea is cool but the actual functionality might be lacking; for me anyway.
Having two screens will have a bigger rain on the battery and reviews have stated that the phone slows down a bit when simultaneously using different applications.

See I would root my evo but there is just so much work involved in acctualy getting to the point of flashing rom's and I don't know much about what I would have to do inorder to do it. Also I've only had it since December 1st and don't want to risk bricking it. Also from what I heard the GB roms are pretty unstable...

No, rooting is easy as pie, and CM7 is extremely stable.

It's almost impossible to brick an Evo, and I mean that. All you do to root is go to Unrevoked.com and download the application and run it with your phone connected. It's not hard at all. Flashing a ROM is as easy as downloading a ZIP file and putting it on your memory card, and then going into the recovery menu and choosing it. There's even protection built in that checks the integrity of the ZIP before flashing it, so if there's something wrong with it, it won't flash.
Anyways, when your run Unrevoked, it will root your phone and add a custom recovery image, but it won't flash a different ROM, so you have nothing to worry about.
unrevoked took 10 min on my phone, been flashing zips since jan 1
I got my Evo on September 1st, which I think was before Unrevoked was released (or at least before I knew about it). I did it the hard way. But after going through a bunch of replacement Evos, I've been using Unrevoked. I love how you can flash any recovery image you want with it.
Ok ill give it a shot but what do you guys recommend? Unrevoked forever or unrevoked 3? I don't know the difference... also how do you get clockwork recovery or whatever? Or is it not needed. Any help is very much appreciated.

Just download Unrevoked. Unrevoked Forever is included and is just the portion that sets your bootloader to S-OFF (allows you to flash other ROMS). It's completely reversible in case you need to take your phone in for repair or exchange. I'm saying this from experience.
After Unrevoked, download ROM Manger from the Market and go to town.

It only works if you have downgraded your ROM to the DHD rom first.
Ok will see what transpires with this thing. Hopefully things move along like the captivate forums.

Cuustom ROMs for a rooted Droid 2 running Gingerbread?

Ok, so I just installed Gingerbread on my Droid 2 and rooted it. I really like Gingerbread so far, and I'm starting to realize that all those months I was running Froyo, I was missing out.
Anyway, all the custom Droid 2 ROMs I see on here and elsewhere seem to be only for phones that are running Froyo. Are there any here or anywhere else for rooted Droid 2s running Gingerbread (preferably with Blur)?

With the release of GB being on a couple weeks old, I'm sure there are plenty of devs working on GB ROMs. Just have to have patience.

The leak is an official leak, meaning it was from Verizon, but rejected for some bugs.
Verizon has already started rolling out a GB OTA for the DX, which means we should be next, and soon.

Which method should I use to root?

Received my Galaxy S2 Skrocket last week and absolutely. Really fast, and the screen is absolutely amazing. I have been lurking on the forums looking at all the different methods in rooting. The phone shipped with 2.3.5 and kernel version 2.3.6. Haven't been able to do an OTA update either to 2.3.6 so I am just thinking about rooting. Anyone know which one I should use?
Root | CWM | ODIN | SGH-I727 and SGH I727R Skyrocket?
Root [ACS] Skyrocket Easy Root - Windows/Mac/Linux
SuperOneClick v2.3.1 (using zergRush)
S2 Roto v1.5.1 - One click root and UnRoot solution for all Samsung Devices
or DoomLords Easy Rooting Toolkit
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
IF its 2.3.5 do one click root its the best.
