I suggest you first flash your phone using Odin to XXKPE firmware. Then flash to XXKPQ/KPU (more stable). Download the root file for the installed firmware. You should be ok

No, thats not true. The only ones with bugs are the older roms. XXKPE is old but it's very stable with no bugs. Where did you hear that "XX series" roms are experimental? The "XX" or "DD" letters only indicate the region of the release. In this case "XX" roms are for europe while "DD" roms are for around India and some parts of Asia. However, you can still use roms like XXKPQ and XXKPU world-wide.
For your Rooting problem
Have you tried SuperOneClick? If not, just download the latest version and install. Then make sure debugging mode is ticked on your phone, open superoneclick and connect your phone. Just click Root and wait for phone to restart.
If you've already tried SuperOneClick, Then your best option is to install XXKPE with .pit file. Just follow the steps on this site and upgrade to DDKP3 or XXKPU, then try rooting your phone.

Hi
Not sure if you're issue is fixed so I'll give my 2 cents.
Try cleaning the information of your USB devices using Drive Cleanup [use google ] assuming you have a Windows PC.
Then install latest Kies for latest USB drivers or if your PC is set to get drivers directly from the internet then updated drivers will be installed automatically once you attach your phone.
Hope this helps

Im having the same issue. My cel is a Galaxy Fit GT S5670L notice that the L is for latin america. i previously bricked another same phone because i didn't read the warning about using ROM MANAGER on this phone... but back to my issue i bought another one cheap and lightly used. so i decided to install a custom rom from here. First i updated the 2.2 Froyo to 2.3.6 Gingerbread with ODIN, everything fine till there. Then installed the clockwork recovery 5 with ODIN too, and finally the ROM wich i decided to install the Cyanogenmod-7.2-Stable-GBSV4XDA-FVT, pretty cool rom BTW. Everything is working PERFECT with the rom EXCEPT that it is not working with my provider... the first hours after the installation was working perfect the after a few hours everybody was saying that they called me and just voicemail no ring at all... i looked at my phone and the signal was OK, Provider name and everything good but nothing. Then i tried this switched to Plane Mode On and Off to disconnect any connection and worked for a few minutes and the problem started again...
So i decided to try another ROM i decided for the Cyanogenmod_avibidz_v1.0 and like the last ROM everything worked fine for a few hours and the same issue again exactly the same.
So i got sick of it so i decided to switch back the stock ROM that thank god i found on the web but now the BIG ISSUE,,, i CONNECT the phone to the PC and says USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED... so i was like WTF!!
I hope you experts could help me find the issue plz i miss my phone... Thanks in advance

Run it as Administrator.
Shotdown mobile, press buttons Home, Up and Power. Wait a little while to appear yellow triangle. Connect the cable to the USB on the PC. In the Odin click on Start and wait until it is all over.

OK i finally installed the stock ROM now its working at 100% aparently will try it for the next couple of days to see if anything fails. But damn this means that theres no Custom ROM i can install on my phone that doesnt give me any problems with my provider.
Does anybody can explain me why this happens?? is there any config or something that the ROM can be modified to make it work with my provider?? Because the STOCK ROM really sucks!!

Most safest/recommended way to root?

Hi,
I have the Galaxy SL i9003 phone and have decided to root it.
I'm quite a novice when it comes to these things so please bear with me.
Could anyone advise me on the safest and most recommended way to root my phone?
I've heard horror stories of phones being "bricked" after rooting :crying:
I would like to use a program that will let me "un-root" a phone also if need be.
Thanks.
If you probably could find the one-click root method for your device, it'd be best. Or if you're running below gingerbread version then install the Z4-root app for rooting/unrooting your device.

@skatylup after downloading (Be sure you have kies already) then follow the guide here pal, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1133787 just follow carefully. The latona.pit is in XXKPE folder. Its an easy step by step process. Once in XXKPQ, Root it with this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1351056 download bagaria.tar then flash in odin via PDA. (should be in download mode again.)
After doing above instructions, Go to Recovery mode w/c is volume up + home +power. Then wipe cache and dalvik cache. Then your good to go. Your now rooted and can try different custom roms.

i recommend you use ODIN.. from the very first day i was a total noob in android, i've always used odin..
relatively, you can search your firmware here and MATCH it to whatever CF Root available
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1331253
also, you can use amit.bagaria's Root.
i attached.
if you use amit.bagaria's root (it's universal, meaning you can flash this root to ANY gb firmware)
all you need is Odin and your usb cable and COMMON SENSE
1. go to settings>applications>usb debugging
2. go to download mode: turn off phone>volume down+home button+power off button (hold them all at the same time until it goes to download mode)
3. connect phone with usb to pc
4. open odin
5. see if odin recognizes your phone (at the upper left, there's a yellow box)
6. click PDA and choose the file amit.bagaria (the one i attached)
7. click start
8. DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING UNTIL THE ROOTING FINISHES
9. wait for the phone to restart
10. congrats, you just successfully rooted your phone
if anything goes wrong, you did something stupid. lol, im just a buddy trying to help you out
**all credits go to the devs for this
snap. i forgot you're on froyo XD

Yes it'd brick it if you mess up.
But according to what I experience. I don't think you'd brick it if you keep your phone plugged without doing anything to it. Dude, chill. It won't do any damage

google odin like bro brian said. afterward it's all straight forward process, and yes,you don't need to be rooted.
off ur phone>press power+home+vol down, then when download mode comes, press vol up to confirm.
then open your odin, makes sure repartition untick(default shoud be unticked),select your firmware via PDA,connect your phone(make sure u installed samsung driver to be detected),see the blue light, then can click start and wait till it's green light and reboot itself.
don't take all my word for it,search some info in general section before you flash it,if you done everything properly,it shouldn't be any problem.

dude no offence but...just believe in us
3.04 is working flawlessly
a firmware for a specific country means the default language is set that way, and English is definitely included.
if you follow the outside link, i'm not saying there'd definitely be errors, but it's better to follow instructions given by us
download odin 3.04
download the firmware
put your phone into download mode
kill all KIES process (your computer)
Run odin as admin
connect phone to PC
choose your firmware on the tab: PDA
click start
wait until it reboots
DONE
be brave and simply click start. don't even touch your computer while the process is still going (just in case)
thanks!!

Connect your phone when it's still turned on. Drivers should install now automatically. Which you don't have to click anything and it'd install something. Then when it says it's fully done. Boot to download mode.
Connect it but don't open Odin first. It will install some drivers again. Also automatically. When it's done. Right click on the Odin icon. Choose run as admin (window 7 or up).
If it says connected.
Choose your firmware and click start.
Before you click anything relating to starting the process in Odin. Even if you were in the download mode. If you weren't flashing anything yet, it's gonna be okay
Hope I helped.
If you need any further help. Keep asking. It's fine to answer

flash it using odin via above method..
Thanks . Works without any problem .
Waste of time
I tried this Rom (Cosmic) no success at all!
The changebands trick did not work either, never could make a single phone call. Wasted like three or four hours triying to make this work but I could not.
Thanks anyway. I guess I will have to be stuck on the boring stock rom.
In case anyone manages to make this work on S duos Latin America version please let me know how!!

Try installing a full stock BMJ1 a clean install.
Than try Cosmic 2.0 over it check if works.. than 2.5 update.
Make sure you are following steps right..
If still not, try another baseband. just baseband.

Hello everybody !
Sorry if there already is a thread about this but could not find it for the GT-I8160.
Rooting, installing custom roms etc. feels too difficult to me at least for now so i have decided that i go back to GB ( i had updated to JB using KIES).
Do you guys know a good tutorial how to do the downgrade ?

@pedroleon99 thanks for the right link !
Sorry for my stupid questions but i dont want to break my first android phone.
Found this link also http://www.ibnewsline.com/index.php...om-android-412-jelly-bean-to-gingerbreadguide and there it says that you also need to Download and install USB Driver and to make sure that USB Debugging Mode is enabled on the phone to attach it with the PC and use android SDK with it.
So, before i follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141930 i will first install the usb drivers and download android SDK ?
You already have kies so drivers are installed.
@nusko_x thanks again !
Couple questions more. I will do this :

2. Turn off the phone and boot it into Download/Odin mode

Hello,
Run into problem.
Odin doesnt detect my device, the ID:COM port at Odins doesnt turn yellow, its blue all the time ? I have Odin3 v.3.04 version and no problem getting into download mode but there it stops (i run all these steps as administrator)
I suspect it has to do with the usb drivers although i have KIES installed. The only thing i have done with the KIES is searching for the JB upgrade (which i should never have installed) .
Just in case, how can i check that the drivers are installed ?
