[Q]Remove Number Separator in Dialer - AKOP & CM - HTC Desire S

Hi,
Most of the CM7,CM9 and AKOP ports are having some separator in the Dialer.
The number will be formatted something like XXX-XXX-XXX
Is there any method available to remove the separator from the number.
I need to get the number like XXXXXXXXX (without hyphen)
Thanks in Advance

The way of displaying a number is particular for a language. If you change the language, the phone numbers will be displayed in a different way, as it is normal for that culture. So basically, if you use US English, the phone numbers will be displayed as they would be in US, thought maybe you phone numbers don't have the same amount of digits. This will make reading the number harder.
Some ROM's allow the user to set the culture and the language separately, you might try and see if your ROM supports that.

Also in my case the ROM removes the prefix like +X(XXX) and show just next 7 digits. It's not the big problem but a little bit unuse

Go to Contacts -> then Menu -> Options then area code. but this almost seems like a very US centric setting, again maybe due to regional settings.
So I understand your problem correctly, for a Kuwait number
+965-555-1234 you want to be able to just use 555-1234 without the country code? I don't think there are area codes in Kuwait just country codes correct.

[APP] [REQUEST] Need an APP to assign Unknown Caller ringtone?

Hi tried posting this in Q&A thread and got no response. So thought I'd try again here in the Apps section.
Is there a way set a discrete ringtone to unknown callers. I do not believe there is a way to do this right now. I think I need an application to do it for me.
Apparently there are three different types of unknown calls:
1. Calls from number-withheld callers.
2. Calls from a public telephone.
3. Calls from the environment where you are unable to notify the number.
It is not possible to treat the three separately.
No problems here... All I want is for my phone to use a specific ringtone for these calls, that is different to the default one I assign to contacts or calls from non withheld numbers.
I do not want to block or divert or silence them, which is what the current "unknown number" Applications do.
I do not want a different ringtone for callers not in contacts. So don't confuse my request as a requirement for this.
I get a lot of legitimate calls from a single "unknown caller" who is is fact my employer. They use number-withheld to mask who is calling. So I want my phone to ring differently when they call. Seems a pretty simple request to me.
The Nexus call log does not let you add Unknown calls in the history to contacts, which I have read in another forum as a suggested solution.
Simply want the phone to realise caller ID is unknown and because of this fact use a dedicated ringtone.
Any ideas? Perhaps for you programmer types, it is a simple app waiting to be made, that no one has thougt of yet
You could even call it "Unknown Tone". That rhymes and has a certain ring to it. pardon the pun
Alright - so no one is at all interested in this app. I can live with that.
But a simple favour. Could someone at least tell me if an app to do this seemingly simple task would be relatively easy to make?

Its 6am here in the US and your post is 4 hours old. Wait a bit and you will get answers
Do you have access to google voice? It lets you screen unknown callers.
Thanks for the reply. I recall a lack of interest back when I had a WinMo phone a couple of years ago too. Just not something most people need.
Don't have google voice as I am in Australia. If I new how to program, I would have a crack at it. On the face of it, it sounds so simple. Wonder if it would be a simple utility that I could do as a way of learning something about programming with the SDK.
So no one nows if a app to set a dedicated ringtone for unknown callers is possible?
I have installed Eclipse and the android SDK, naively thinking I might be able to make this app myself. Hello World is about the limit of what I can do. I have NFI where to start programming this thing.
Funny thing is on the face of it it seems such an easy thing to do.
If phone rings AND caller ID = unknown, assign ringtone X.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=666894
It's dedicated to ROM development, I think...but, maybe you can get some help there on coding...
OK thanks will give it a try. It is such a simple idea after all.
Unknown caller answer
Hi
Just had the same issue...Go into your call history and find one of the "unknown" or "private" numbers with no phone number attached and save it as a contact and then assign your ringtone....I have a htc hero and can do this. Just did it for Private and Unknown, they can be no number attached to it, otherwise it will only work for that particular num.
NO app needed.
Good Luck

Not the case I am afraid.
Hero must run an earlier version of the android OS that the Nexus One. Because what you suggested was the very thing I first tried before starting this thread. Android 2.1 is smart enough or stupid enough (depending on your point of view) to prevent adding "Unknown" numbers to contact.
Normal number in call history, long press gives:
Call 1234567890
Edit number before call
Send text message
Add to Contacts
Remove from Call log
Unknown number in call history, long press gives:
Remove from Call log
So as you can see the lack of an "Add to Contacts" choice means I am currently snookered. What android is on your Hero and do you get the same list of options as shown above when you long press an unknown number?
Perhaps the functionality you described was removed without thought to unintended consequences in OS2.1 . They might put it back in with OS2.2 with any luck.

Yes I heard you the first time. I just tried to suggest an easy way to get rid of the unknown calls because I figured why would anyone want to here an annoying ringtone for a call that he probably doesn't want to pick up! This is why I have such few posts but I have been a member here for a lot longer than most people! You sound really angry there bud ^_^
Nah not angry bud. Just pointing out that your suggestion (for which I thanked you) does not assign ringtones to unknown callers and therefore is not a solution for me. Will be interesting to see if Froyo does this any differently. I am guessing not.
I would like to know an answer to this as well. I just upgraded to nexus one from treo 680. IN the Treo it was a simple matter to assign a particular ringtone to unknown numbers, in fact it was a menu option in call settings.
Isn't it interesting how the Treo has it as a Menu option. Where as for all intensive purposes it is not possible in the Android OS.
I now have Android OS 2.2 on my N1 and it remains unchanged. Still no obvious way to assign a discrete ring tone to an Unknown caller. Plenty off apps to block/kill Unknown/Private calls. But no way to simply give them a discrete ringtone.
Just to add that I've also wanted this since I first got my Hero - it should be possible without having to resort to using an app, though i'd be grateful for an app if it existed
You guys should request it for CyanogenMod or ask WYSIE if it's possible to add to his Contact.apk mod.
Here's a stupid question though... have you tried first going into the options for contacts and UN-checking "only contacts with phones" and then see if you can have a contact that doesn't have a phone number attached named "Unknown" ? I realize it's a long shot, but maybe you were only trying to add it when that option was checked....
Not sure if this can be setup to achieve what the OP needed?

[Q] How can I change 'My phone number' in Status - phone settings

Can anyone help me change 'My phone number' in 'Settings' - 'About Phone' - 'Status' - 'My phone number?
It is showing the original number of the sim card rather than my ported actual number.
Thanks in advance

You can't. It will always show the phone number attached to the SIM Card.
When your port is complete(and your new old number is attached to the SIM card), restart your phone and it should update accordingly. I had this issue when I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile.
this is data from the SIM.
i believe is is part of the protected data where general card reader cannot change. they can only read.
if you want to edit, you would need something like below.

I think that the phone number on the SIM can be edited with an iPhone.
shrivelfig is right, some phones can edit this number. Mine was showing "Unknown", so I put my sim card in an iPhone eek, and I could set my number by going to the Settings -> Phone menu. I did some research for the possibility to edit it from Android (with the help of an external app for ex) but didn't find a solution
OK - thanks for all your replies.
My wife has my old iphone so I'll try and put the sim in there and edit the number as it doesn't pick up the number when i've turned off and back on my Nexus.
Cheers

How do you know so much about what the point of this phone is? Do you work at Google? Are you Jesus? Or perhaps just his father?
And while we're on the subject of knowledge: the correct expression is "couldn't care less".

I DO know that it takes about the same amount of time to root & install a modded rom and fix the OP's issue as it does to write your little rant there.
Go into Contacts -> [Menu] -> More -> Settings -> Own numbers -> [Menu] -> Create and type your phone number into the Number field, now Save.
Then switch your phone off and on again, and it should show the correct number (or whatever number you entered) in the status now.

Hey man, don't forget the Nexus S is meant to be the flagship "pure" Google/Android device so many, many people keep it stock for that reason. Not everyone here wants to trade the stability and consistency of the stock Android experience for a bunch of hacker mods. Sure hacking can be great fun but surely you realize its not the "point" of this phone.

Smart dial functionality realization and need to dramatically improve it !

It is very necassary to add narrowing down / picking out / taking persons from contacts and dialing list starting from even one figure but which is / are in any place of numbers, not only in the begginning of it, such as in Sony Xperia dialer app.
There will be talking about tuning / changing / improving of stock dialer app for the stock firmware, or default dialer app for non stock firmwares, but not about some additional addons to dialer or dialer substitutes.
Who knows, how is it possible that smart dial function can act as in Sony Xperia smartphones or how is to switch such behavior or how and which way can tune phone app / firmware to or where is to write to HTC or how can do the following, looks like Xperia smart dial behavior.
So, I press figure 3 in dialer line and all persons from contacts as from dialing list (all, incoming, outgoiong, missed) who's numbers have 3 figure are displayed, and this figure is marked in got numbers,
then I add figure 9 to 3, there is 39 in dialer line and persons from contacts and dialing list is narrowed down to person who's numbers has 39, and 39 is marked in got numbers also, then I add 1 and get 391 in dialer line and persons are narrowed down more, according to pressed 391 figures and so on.
And it is not important or it doesn' t depend on where are searching figures placed, in the begginning of picking out numbers or in ANY place of it.
Who can may be add such functionality or where can I find andswer ?
I have German HTC One XL 32 Gb version.
But the same situation for all HTC One, including S, X, XL, unlike of Xperia P, S, Acro S.
Come again? The smart dialer works perfectly for me just the way it is. All I have to do is start dialing someone's name and they pop up. Don't see how that can be improved upon.
Esp chip integration. Will automatically call once you decide your going to make the call. With proper engineering you could even carry on the coversation without having to speak
Also, cross-posting is not going to improve it either.

Forv you may be. For me and others there is big missing in smart dial moreover we talk about top model.
I wrote, and you can look at Sony Xperia phone app smart dial realization and propably will understand what need to improve.
Some time I needed to call to person I didn' t remember its completed number, I didn' t remember even the begginning of the number, but I remembered some figures which was located in the middle of the number but closer to an end of that, for example there is number +79213457866? I remembered 786 only, LG 2x could find, Sony Xperia Acros could find, LG 4X could find, but HTC One XL couldn' t.
And in need to take into account that searching number could be as in contacts as in dialin list that is you couldn' t be succeed in searching by name.

Esp chip integration, sounds good. Can you make so or not ?
For anyone not quite understanding what the OP is talking about, I want to try to explain quickly. The Sense dialer only searches phone numbers if you type the beginning of the phone number. For example, take two contacts, 123-456-7890 and 890-756-1234. If you dial "89", only the second contact will come up. If you dial "123", only the first contact will come up. He is asking for functionality where both numbers would show up under both situations, searching for the string in the entire number and not just the beginning of the number.
Dialer One, free in the Play Store, offers this functionality, so I don't think there's any need to modify the Sense dialer.

Well, I guess people really do things differently.
I can't remember any part of any of my contacts phone numbers. It seems like it would be much easier to just enter a person's name, not random parts of their phone number.

I can understand why it might be useful to have the phone search in the way you describe, I don't think it is a pressing issue for most users. The way our smart dial is implemented is mostly to search for contact names and the numbers you know by heart already. I save all of my contacts with names, and you won't catch me trying to search for loose numbers. Perhaps try re-evaluating your search and contact organization methods?

Copy caller Blacklist from my previous phone to OnePlus

I was using Galaxy S4 before switching to OnePlus. I have blacklisted several annoying telemarketer phone numbers using the "blacklist" feature available on CyanogenMod.
How do I bring those over to OnePlus so that I do not need to start over again?
Isn't this feature built in? It should be under Settings -> Privacy -> Blacklist... I'm on a custom rOM so the option may be hiding in one of the menus. The feature is there though.

The feature is there. My question is, I have blacklisted a bunch of phone numbers on my old phone. I do not want to restart that process all over again with OnePlus.
For example, if I had already blacklisted a number, lets say XXX-XXX-XXXX. When I start using OnePlus, that caller will still be able to call me as that number won't be in the blacklisted numbers on OnePlus
If I am missing something please let me know.

You'd have to manually add those numbers in to be blocked. The method you're blocking their numbers is done by software, not by carrier.

I know it is done by software. That information is already stored somewhere on my Galaxy S4. My question - is there a way to export these numbers and then import them in the Blacklist on OnePlus. Please let me know even if it means me manually exporting/importing those numbers. I do not know where they are stored else I would have tried it.

No there is no way to export/import them using the stock Blacklist. Insert them manually as I mentioned previously.
If you have a lot of numbers blocked, maybe its time for you to change your number.

Well I guess in that case, you should be able to carry it from ROM to ROM on your Galaxy S4 as well. For example, if you went from 1 ROM to the next ROM, you'd be asking yourself the same question. Could I export/import blacklisted numbers?
Alternatively, you can use a app to "block" numbers which will carry the data over. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mrnumber.blocker is one of them.
The Cyanogen profile will transfer the list automatically.
