[Q] Re arrange gallery image display? (Sort images) - HTC One S

Hey guys, I was just wondering if it is possible to re arrange the sort of which our device displays images in folders in the stock gallery? I think it would only make sense if it showed the newest images first as opposed to what it is now, last. I have tried checking settings and everything, seems there is no way to change the sort order. Any one else have issues with this or know how to change it? Preferably, not by using a 3rd party gallery app. Thanks.

[Request] - Stock 3D Gallery and DeskClock

So I will try to organize this thread so most important stuff (request) is on top, and my rant/explanation of why I want this done will follow. Warning: I know I tend to use a lot of run-on sentences...I'm just long winded
Attached are two stock (I presume) .apk's that I pulled out of Cyanogen's ROM that I have installed on my stock 2.1 ROM. I prefer these two apps vs. the HTC versions, but each have one small issue.
1) - DeskClock.apk will FC if you hit the Music shortcut. I am assuming that this is something simple, like it's trying to call up the wrong program? Can this be written to launch the HTC Music App, hopefully eliminating the FC?
2) - Gallery3D will FC if you try to launch the camera from within the app. I am once again assuming (more hoping, really) that it's trying to launch a camera app that doesn't exist in the stock ROM. Can this be written to launch the HTC Camera app, hopefully eliminating the FC?
I would try myself, but after downloading and installing Eclipse, JRE and the Android plug-in, I still feel like this is over my head at this point, as all I have is very limited Visual Basic experience. Would someone mind doing me a favor and updating those apps are reposting them in this thread so that myself and other like me can use those on our stock 2.1 ROMs? It would be much appreciated
Now for the rant:
I see a lot of people with differing opinions on HTC's Sense. Personally, this is my first Android phone, and I have found that I actually like SOME of the Sense apps. I dont really have a problem with the launcher (though I have replaeced it with ADW.Launcher), and I feel that apps such as People, Camera, and Phone are somewhat superior to what I presume are the stock Contacts, Camera and Phone apps, respectively. And then I wonder why HTC created some of the other apps they did that seem somewhat....lacking.
1) The "Photos" app is very boring and plain. I mean, I appreciate the Flickr and Facebook integration (which would be useful IF I used them), but why could they not have just added this functionality to the already awesome 3D Gallery? I would rather use the stock Gallery app, and even though the file I attached (see:Gallery3D.apk) doesn't have a functioning camera botton, I still prefer it to the Photo app. Plus, it pulls in my Picasa photo albums
2) The DeskClock app HTC included on the incredible is fine for the most part, but I don't like the small clock font and the fact that it takes FOREVER to launch, whereas the stock DeskClock.apk is instant to load, has a much larger font, and does other things I like better; like keeping my wallpaper visible, and is softer to the eye. Once again, I appreciate the added features of HTC's clock (Worldclock, Stopwatch, Timer), but I don't use them enough to make me like this program more than the stock one.
So that is why I am asking for those to be edited so they'll run on my stock ROM. At least until we start seeing some FroYo love
Also, if anybody knows, why did HTC replace the Messages app with one that exchanges the ability to set conversation limits (e.g. 200 messages, then auto delete) with one that uses Facebook for contact icons? I still use the HTC Messages app cause I like the pictures transferring over from Facebook (or the People app, which is updated by Facebook, and hence why the People app I like BETTER than stock), but why leave out any message bulk control? Anything over two or three hundred and my phone really starts taking a long time to open the conversation...
Alternately, once CyanogenMod's ROM becomes more stable, I would love to switch to it if I could bring some of the Sense apps along. Those would be:
1) People - with fully functioning updates and photo shortcuts to Facebook and Flickr
2) Camera - I like the added features...and the fact that it already supports 8MP, whereas (as of CM5.0.8 Test1, anyway), the camera app would only do 3MP
3) Phone - again, with correctly synchronizing contact pictures and speed dial, just like in our stock ROM.
I haven't actually tried pulling these out of the stock ROM and installing them in CM5, but I'm assuming I'd run into issues with the Facebook/Flickr sync...

attached is a gallery apk that doesn't have the camera issue. and also I attached the stock music apk that is need for deskclock.
Anything from Sense requires the htc framework which you are not going to find in any Cyanogen or vanilla ROM and there is no work around.
The vanilla DeskClock apk (with working music button) and 3D Gallery (with working camera button) already exist in other threads in this forum. Just search for them. You will also find both of those apps in any plain vanilla or cyanogen rom that is made.
As for the phone and contacts, the vanilla ones are much better imo than sense. You will not miss the lag.

Thanks jitajt! Those fixed my problems. Im getting to the point where I'm fairly satisfied with everything about the phone. Just got Hydra's OCUV+N kernel installed and it's working great.
I have the opposite request of this thread actually; I need the HTC DeskClock files from a stock 2.1 sense ROM. Would anyone be able to post it please? Thank you in advance!
I miss having the timer and stop watch functionality that comes with it. My laundry always winds up sitting in the washer and dryer far too long without me setting a timer
Hello. I did a search for AOSP DeskClock and this is the only promising thread I found. I'm using an HTC CDMA Hero. Does anyone know if this is or isn't safe for me to use?
Also, do I just push to /system/app?
I don't know about you guys.. but the sense gallery loads up MUCH FASTER than this gallery 3D. UNINSTALLED
I have both apps in my rom and are runing fine

Camera FC
Hey Thanks jitajt!
I've been trying to get this to work on my samsung spica for a few days now.
But now the camera button (upper right) is giving me an FC error. It's because the camer app I have is SamsungCamera.apk NOT the stock camera app.
Could you provide the stock camera.apk for android 2.1?
Thanks.

[Q] Restore Homescreen Widgets Quickly

Hello,
I like a installing new roms and such, but I know this messes up widgets but was wondering if anyone knew of a quick way to restore them?
I like using multicon and have whole screen full of the these so lots of apps assigned. Is there a quick way to get these back? as its a pain remaking all the time.
Thanks
Alistair
I will sure like to know this. With LP i always have to recreate mine and it is a pain in the you know what.

ICS Stock Launcher Rotate?

I would like the ability for the stock ICS launcher to rotate based on the phone orientation. Obviously the launcher supports it because it will go landscape when used in any of the various docks.
Back on the Atrix OG, the NoattachTrix4G ROM had the install-time option to make the stock launcher rotate based on orientation, so there must be a way to modify something that allows the launcher to rotate without having to be in a dock. Has anyone looked into that and knows how to do it? In the worst case, I can try to find time to look at the NoattachTrix install script to see what it does (or, if it is just installing a new framework or whatever, get that file and see what was changed).
In the meantime, I was just wondering if anyone else may have already looked into it.
Yup. In GB it was a simple edit in the BlurHome2.apk's AndroidManifest.xml. I think it's the same in ICS, but in the homescreen.apk.
Look for this line and change "nosensor" to "sensor":
Code:
android:screenOrientation="nosensor"
The problem is signatures. You could probably edit your own and push it back to your phone without signing w/ no issues.. maybe. But, really a bunch of system apks need to be re-signed with the same key if you change one AndroidManifest.. so it would have to be included in a rom, or a big zip package to replace all of the re-signed apks..

Can't the signing issues be resolved by using Eclipse?

I'm currently looking through all the info on how to do this (but I'm not in any hurry)...I've installed Eclipse on my Ubuntu system, looking through the other threads and tools. I have dragged my feet on doing this now for the past year because I know how I am with all this and it has the potential to take more time away from my necessary activities.
Ok, I starting learning how to do all this. I decompiled the apk, made the change, recompiled, but didn't want to take the time to make it work.
So, while reading an article on the Nexus 7, I came across two apps that allow the homescreen to rotate without mods:
Ultimate Rotation Control ($2.99): I tried it but thought I would try the free one first
Rotation Locker (Free): Using this one now. Doesn't restart with the phone. Make sure you are using the background method (long press "Auto").
Both of the above applications let the Moto homescreen rotate as well as any other apps that insist on being in portrait mode, but I'm trying the free on first to see if any issues show up.

[Q] Weird wallpaper issue

Hi,
Device : Nexus 5 international version (LG-D821) 16 Gb.
System : Stock 4.4.2/KOT49H, unrooted, locked (updated from original 4.4 via OTA)
My problem is the following: I can't set the wallpaper using the regular way (tapping screen/wallpaper/select picture/picking any picture from any folder) and get a error message at the bottom (even before actually setting it) which says 'Can't load picture'.
I get this message on any picture (camera pictures, my own wallpaper folder, downloaded pictures, whatever) anywhere.
So, right now I'm forced to use the gallery app and the "use as wallpaper" function (and 100% of all the pictures I have work fine).
I'm not sure it's a 4.4.2 related issue, I can't remember if I changed the wallpaper using the very same way right after the OTA. What I do remember is it worked perfectly on 4.4.
So I wonder if it's a known 4.4.2 issue/bug.
It doesn't seem related to the files or folders themselves since it used to work on 4.4 and still work through the gallery.
Anyway, any help appreciated.
Thank you for reading

I thought that the "regular" way you describe in your first paragraph is in fact a function of the gallery app.

Are you able to set the stock wallpapers through the regular way or is that only related to you picking pictures that you have downloaded or copied to your phone?
It might be due to format, file size etc... If it is the latter.

I can pick stock wallpapers (have no idea where they are located btw) that way but no picture of any kind (except when running Gallery and 'using them as wallaper'). I haven't messed up with the folders or the files and it works fine anyway, again, from the Gallery app.

Upload one of the pictures you're trying to use as a wallpaper. I'll try to recreate this on my phone and see if I end up with the same issues.

[Q] Setting any image without cropping

Hey,
Can any one tell me how can I save a picture in the default wallpaper folder of my android device??
As every time I set any picture that is not a default picture of my set I've to crop it. I'm using 2 different android devices, one of them is Samsung galaxy star pro, this one is rooted. I've been searching the net for this issue and found that it's packed with the launcher.apk, if it is true then is there any way by which I can set my images without cropping and without using any apps(like image2wallpaper and all)????
I've also tried different kinds of apps, but the results are not satisfactory, in many cases the images is zoomed or some other problem.
So it would be much easier if I can simply put my photos directly into the default WP folder, then I wont have to use any app.

As far as i know size must be horizontal x 2 + vertical x1
Like if you have 720*1280 screen, wallpaper must be 1440*1280
İ am not so sure tho.
I've noticed this too. Part of the cropping 'problem' is due to they way Android is made. As Android is used on both devices that work in portrait (like phones) and landscape (most larger tablets), the OS is made to encompass both. Your default launcher on the other hand may restrict your orientation but the Android OS still has to take in account for the other orientation. This can make finding a wallpaper that works well difficult. The general rule is to find a square image that matches your screens height. This will result in the best, centered, crop.
As for where the default wallpapers are stored, I don't know. I poked around my device for a bit and didn't find any of them. My assumption is they are stored in a system app or archive.

even if I maintain the aspect ratio the scrolling won't work with any images except the default ones. Do you have any suggestions for that ?

That is most likely a restriction of your devices' launcher. An aftermarket launcher like Nova will give you that scrolling effect no problem.
Try CM11 kitkat. It donT really crop the image.
