[Q] Can I go back to 1.73 or 1.82? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I am on stock unrooted and locked 1.85 with my AT&T HOX. I've been waiting
for a root method for 1.85.
I've asked this a couple of different ways, but I'm still confused.
Is there a way for me to get back to 1.82 or 1.73 using the HTC Boot menu Recovery - or any other way for that matter?
I can't use the RUU, because I am already on 1.85, and if I run the RUU for 1.73 or 1.82, it fails with a bootloader error.
If I can get back to 1.82 or 1.73, then I can follow the proper steps to get a rooted 1.85 back on my phone.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks, gunnyman, I appreciate the help. I'll just have to be patient and wait for root for 1.85.

well... there is 0.000001% chance your device may came with s-off...
check that in bootloader....if it is s-off...then yes you can...if it is s-on...
then you need to wait for a way to get root.

Noob Question about the correct RUU I need...

So I've tried about 5 different RUU's to get my phone back to 2.2 with no luck.
Either a signature error or bootload mismatch or something or another.
I have a Sprint HTC Evo with 2.3.3.
Can someone help me get this thing back and running on 2.2?
I recently tried to use Unrevoked on it...which caused some issues with the bootloader .
Thanks, guys/gals
If you aren't s-off then you can't run an RUU for an older version. If you are s-off, just flash a rooted stock 2.2 rom. You can try a different RUU if you're already s-off, just make sure that you follow the directions closely.
If you're trying to root by downgrading, it won't work unless the phone is already s-off. If the phone is s-off and you're trying to gain root access, just flash a PC36IMG of a recovery then flash a rooted rom from there.
If you're taking it in for repair, keep s-off so you can re-root if you get the phone back (if you're already rooted and want to stay that way).

Hey, thanks for the reply .
I'm not sure what you mean by S-OFF/S-ON however .
Also, I've tried probably five or six different RUU's, none of them want to run.

Stock AT&T One X /EVITA/ Recovery Image?

Looking for the stock evita recovery image so i can update my unlocked, rooted One X to 1.85 (yes i have ota rootkeeper). I don't want to flash the RUU or use a custom rom as I did that already and felt that stock rom was the best for me.
TIA!

RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility. Running the RUU, be it 1.73, 1.82 or 1.85 will return your phone to bone stock of that firmware. Be sure to re lock your bootloader before running the RUU.
Yeah just re-lock the bootloader, flash the 1.85 RUU, unlock it then push a recovery and root.

Yep that's what I did. I just wanted a way to be unlocked and have the stock recovery.

[Q] Update path question

I'm rooted on 1.73 and want to get to 1.85 rooted and bl unlocked.
Should I -
OTA to 1.85>root>bl unlock
or
1.73>unlock>relock>1.85>root>re unlock

As of today you can do the first option, so you might as well since there are less steps involved.
Use OTA Rootkeeper to store a copy of SU, then take the update. After taking the update open Rootkeeper and restore root.
If you are going to unlock then I would just do it now and flash a ROM, though.

In the event that root doesn't work on 1.85 he might get stuck unrooted. If OP is going to unlock BL anyway, I'd recommend doing that first, than update to 1.85. This is the safer bet.

[Q] RUU after S-OFF?

Hi everyone.
I've been having very bad problems with by battery life lately (I mean BAD) across nearly virtually all ROMs and configurations... so I'm thinking it's time to RUU and see if it solves the problem before sending my phone off.
Currently, I'm bootloader unlocked, SuperCID, S-OFF, rooted, custom recovery, etc.
I've done an RUU before, before I got S-OFF, and I know that if you have an unlocked bootloader you have to 're-lock' it before running the RUU.
Since I'm S-OFF, are there any other prerequisites to RUUing?
Can I simply re-lock my bootloader, RUU, then unlock my bootloader, root, and I'll be good?
And will I remain S-OFF throughout the RUU? Will my S-OFF mess anything up?

From what i understand, you don't even need to relock your bootloader, while S-OFF, but I did it anyway when I RUU'd.
RUUing will not mess with S-OFF or anything.
After RUUing, I also Took the latest OTA from Telus (I'm with Telus, you may not be) And I noticed ROMs using a 3.17 base run much smoother and with less bugs. I did not, however, notice much difference in battery life with AOSP roms.
Hope this helps ya

OK, so you mean that after RUUing, you took the OTA, and Sense 3.17 ROMs ran smoother and better than before you took the OTA?
I'm thinking about using the 3.18 RUU. Since I'm S-OFF, am I safe to use any RUU I want since I can revert easily?
As in, I can safely use the 3.18 RUU (which is currently regarded unrootable), and if it turns out to be bad I can just go back to an older RUU?
Basically, will using the 3.18 OTA/RUU mess anything up if I'm S-OFF?

Yes, I did find Viper and clean rom both ran much better than they did previously.
I'm sorry, I don't know about the 3.18 OTA... Hopefully someone else here can shed more light?
Theoretically, Since you're S-OFF, you should be able to update just fine. I haven't seen anyone actually do it yet though. I would test if I could.
I didn't relock I just ruu'd and after the process was done I just pushed twrp to my phone in fastboot and flashed viper. Only took a few mins top

If I decide to update to a complete 3.18 base, is it better to use a 3.18 RUU or OTA? And if I use the OTA, how exactly do I 'flash' it (it's a ZIP file). Do I just put it on the top level of my internal storage, and boot into recovery, and select 'update' or whatever?

I used the ruu for 3.18 and haven't regretted it yet. My battery life has gotten much better.

OTA just downloads through the phone. IE: Go to settings about phone, check for updates and it updates. You don't have to do anything else, it prompts you and updates for you.
If there was already a 3.18 RUU that would be the fastest way. Telus is slow with releasing RUU's so I had to use ICS myself. Neither way should give you trouble.
Here's to hoping my phone doesn't brick. Running the RUU as we speak (bootloader unlocked, s-off, super-cid)...
Well it worked. Twrp 2.2.2.0 doesn't though. Ugh, 2.3x is so ugly.

If you're hellbent on TWRP 2.2.2.0, downgrade the touchscreen firmware.

Yeah I did. Maybe I'll look into downgrading the touchscreen firmware.

If I'm S-OFF and use the 3.18 RUU, in order to use AOSP-based 4.2.2 ROMs, will I have to downgrade my touchscreen firmware?

If I use the 3.18 RUU, how will I obtain root afterwards?
I'm already S-OFF and bootloader unlocked BTW.
And since I'm S-OFF, can I easily revert back to an older RUU without any extra steps?

Yes.
Just an update. I successfully ruu'd to 3.18, downgraded hboot to 1.09, downgraded the touchscreen firmware, installed twrp 2.2.2.0 and all is well.
I'm sort of back where I started but maybe something good has come of it.
