Yes, it is possible to revert back to 1.85.
We just havent figured out exactly how at this point

I am on stock unrooted and locked 1.85 with my AT&T HOX. I've been waiting
for a root method for 1.85.
I've asked this a couple of different ways, but I'm still confused.
Is there a way for me to get back to 1.82 or 1.73 using the HTC Boot menu Recovery - or any other way for that matter?
I can't use the RUU, because I am already on 1.85, and if I run the RUU for 1.73 or 1.82, it fails with a bootloader error.
If I can get back to 1.82 or 1.73, then I can follow the proper steps to get a rooted 1.85 back on my phone.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks, gunnyman, I appreciate the help. I'll just have to be patient and wait for root for 1.85.

well... there is 0.000001% chance your device may came with s-off...
check that in bootloader....if it is s-off...then yes you can...if it is s-on...
then you need to wait for a way to get root.
Looking for the stock evita recovery image so i can update my unlocked, rooted One X to 1.85 (yes i have ota rootkeeper). I don't want to flash the RUU or use a custom rom as I did that already and felt that stock rom was the best for me.
TIA!

RUU = ROM Upgrade Utility. Running the RUU, be it 1.73, 1.82 or 1.85 will return your phone to bone stock of that firmware. Be sure to re lock your bootloader before running the RUU.
Yeah just re-lock the bootloader, flash the 1.85 RUU, unlock it then push a recovery and root.

Yep that's what I did. I just wanted a way to be unlocked and have the stock recovery.

i unlocked bootloader, changed CID to generic.. and directly flashed CLean rom.. it installed just fine.. then why should we re-lock it? since CID is generic now.. and is this the ruu 1.88.707.2 CL64928 release keys(built number)?
why should i downgrade to 1.85 if i am on 1.88 .. rogers model by the way
There is no need to re-lock it. I did the same thing you did and have left it unlocked.
Its easier to leave it unlock. The only reason I know of to relock it is if you need to use an ruu and go back to "stock".
I need to restore my One X to complete AT&T factory firmware and settings as I need to send in the phone to be replaced. What would be the best way to go about this ? Would just running the 2.20 RUU work? I am not sure as KingCobra 1.4.1 is based on the 2.29 RUU. Any help would be appreciated.

First you lock the bootloader and flash stock ruu to send it back

Are you on the 2.20 Hboot, or something previous? If its still on the "old" Hboot, I'd just run the 1.73 or 1.85 RUU and leave it at that. I'd really avoid running the 2.20 RUU unless you absolutely have to. I think there is a small possibility you will actually get your old phone back repaired instead of a refurb (if you are over the first 30 days).
What ROM you are presently on makes no difference when running the RUU. As long as the bootloader is relocked, the right RUU (for your CID, in this case any should work since you are SuperCID) will just wipe everything anyway.
adb reboot bootloader
fasboot oem lock
Then flash ruu of choice
Ok so I have unlocked rooted an it is hboot 1.09 from the hboot downgrade
If I wanted to restore to stock with out upgrading the hboot what would be the best ruu to use I know 2.20 has 1.14 but I'm not sure about 1.85 an 1.73
Also if I use the ruu to go to stock would it be like I was never on 2.20 hboot 1.14
Thanks for any help

You can use the 1.85 or 1.73 ruu but 1.85 is usually recommended and yes now that you've downgraded you have nothing left over from 2.20 basically
alright thanks alot just wanted to make sure first i love trying things i havent before so i figures returning to stock an rooted again might be some fun
just tryed 1.85 and came back with error 140 boot loader version wroung so im trying 1.73 now
You have to Relock your bootloader before running an ruu
i relocked my boot loader and didnt work thats the first thing i did was relock it after i ran the 1.85 i ran the 1.73 an nether worked an it had me stuck in boot loader with security warning an couldnt go anywhere else no recovery nothing so i restored with 2.20
does 1.85 an 1.73 att/cingular for sure have the 1.09 hboot
If you didn't change your main version then that's why the ruu failed. Instructions on how to do so are on the first page of the JET thread.
Edit: it's post 4 in the JET thread to be exact, posted by grim.
