Hi,
i have the Desire S and a while ago (where HBOOT > 2.00.00 could not be turned S-OFF) i downgraded to 0.98 and S-Offed using revolutionary. I wanted to flash a Sense 3 ROM now and there is always said, it wont work with HBOOT 0.98. Is that true? How can i upgrade the HBOOT and keeping the device S-OFFed?
Thanks for your answers!

use a eng-hboot
See index thread for details
Which hboot is best for sense 4 roms? and is it recommended to upgrade radio too than?
The hboot for sense 4.0 roms is 2.00....
If you see the hboot thread you will see modified 2.000... and also the process to upgrade boot loader.
I had S-off and I was on 0.98 and now upgrade to 2.00 and still s-off

Ok, one more quick question...
In one of the rom ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1677252 )
the developer gave thes einstructions on how to get hboot on your phone:
Reboot to recovery and
Open Cmd (command prompt) and run following commands (press enter after each command)
adb devices
adb shell
su
Make sure that you device appear in the list. (eg. HT********)
After running these commands you will see
~#
start flashing my rom with recovery then
type this
dd if=/sdcard/hboot.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
Reboot to your bootloader and check your hboot version it must be something like this
*** LOCKED ***
SAGA PVT ENG S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.00.2002 (PG8810000)
.....e.t.c.....
How does this work with cmd? I think recovery on phone doesnt have cmd to write this commands in, so i assume you have to connect phone with usb and than do this, i really don't see any other way to do this the way he say?
I think you must use this with fastboot commands while in bootloader mode

Fastboot commands are issued via the command prompt, on your 'puter.
So... First of all you have to install "ADB" (Android Debug Bridge) on your computer.
Here's a good windows guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272595
In short, you have to download adb and place it on your harddrive, and then edit the path to match.
After this is done you can write all sorts of commands...
For example:
adb /help gives you a list of all the available commands.
adb reboot recovery restarts your phone in recovery mode
adb reboot bootloader restarts your phone in bootloader (to see hboot version)
One thing tho - don't forget to mount your sdcard when booted into recovery.
You'll find a menu choice to do this somewhere.
Hope this helps!

As the first command says "adb devices" it should be done with adb, phone booted or in recovery mode. Not with fastboot.

It has to be in "usb-fastboot" OR "fastboot usb". Again, please read the thread for further clarification

wouldn't really recommend "dd commands"/adb to noobs straightway

Btw, weren't you asking around for help with your own hboot just a few days ago? Or am I confusing you with somebody else?
Don't take this the wrong way, I think guides in general are a great tool for beginners. I've followed quite a few of them myself

Yes, I was and I noticed that there was no unified solution in a single thread.
So, I made one so that others who are confused and flash their phones in a hurry don't brick theirs which to me would've hurt..as a developer myself (though am new to Android world)
I agree, the hboot threads can be somewhat confusing for a beginner.

I'm a noob of Android and I begin yesterday to read this forum and find some solution.
I bought this new phone HTC EDIT: "Desire S" from a friend of mine, but the version installed is very strange:
Android 2.3.3
HTC Sense 2.1
Radio 20.26.30.084AU _38.03.00.03_M
Build 1.21 .0.0 CL18158 test-keys
Software 1.21.0.0
I have installed "root check" app and it say that I have the root access and I haven't do nothing.
I would like to install the official rom (I found the verision on this post ) to resolve some bugs that are present in my phone, but I don't know if the device will work well.
I need first to backup all the rom and in case of problem re-install.
I install ROM Manager and try to install ClockworkMod but it give me an error about privileged. The problem could be the S-ON, but I'm not sure.
Now the question:
how to make a S-Off without risk?
If I install a official rom, do the ClockworkMod, root access and S-OFF remain installed?
If I reach my goal, I will created a guide that collect the steps of installing a rom for noob as me
1) desire or desire s?
2) test keys? if u got a s-off bootloader, don't update your rom, WE NEED YOUR BOOTLOADER!
1. It is Desire S.
2. I will not update in this case. How I can be sure that is it S-off? In that case how can I give you my bootloader?
Thanks
Hold [volume-down] and [power] when the phone's turned off.
That last bit's the tricky part - because of a feature called fast boot the DS does not really turn off when you shut it down but just hibernates. So you have to either turn off fast boot (in Settings -> Power) or pull the battery before attempting to enter recovery.
Check the Hboot at the top to see if it's Ship S-ON or S-OFF or ENG
I just made what you say.
SAGA PVT ENG S-OFF
HBOOT-0.98.2000 (PG8810000)
RADIO-38.03.00.03M
eMMC-boot
Then there is menu with some command.
My phone is S-OFF
Can this be usefully for you?

EXCELLENT we have an ENG S-OFF Desire-S, anyone of the Developers can help us with this if it's useful by any means?!
We need you to dump the Hboot, and upload it here please
1. Download adb zip (http://www.mediafire.com/?5d0v316g9bg97) and extract to c:\
2. Launch Windows console (cmd) and go to the adb folder cd c:\adb
3. "adb devices" <- Is your device detected? If not, install HTC Sync // Of course, before you have to plug your device in.. (sync mode)
4. "adb shell"
5. run "dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/sdcard/hboot.img"
6. Conect your phone in usb mode and Upload to multiupload or Mediafire

I will do it later because I'm not at home now.
This procedure will save personal data, in the sense that is better first to restore default settings of the phone?
What does it means ENG?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
it won't save any data from you, only your bootloader, not your rom
eng = engineering
it's a bootloader, s-off and with more functions (like fastboot to flash new radios)
If we can just get RUU for SAGA same as Asd0rs version 1.21.0.0 won't we be able to flash it to our S-ON devices & get S-OFF
OMFG !!!!!!!!!! Finally an ENG S-OFF !!!!!!!!!! This is the same case with the sensation. Hopefully, they'll find a way to push this into our S-On phones. Also, can you please take a pic of your bootloader screen and post it here? Proof's always good. Also, plzz don't do something like the guy with ENG S-OFF Sensation did. DO NOT FLASH ANY ROM, OR YOU MIGHT LOSE YOUR ENG S-OFF, and we'll be screwed. Thanks !!!
EDIT: It seems like HTC is dropping these on purpose

Check if you are doing this:
1. Connect your phone through USB, enable USB debugging
2. Run command prompt, change directory to adb
3. Check if your device serial is shown by running adb devices
4. Once you see your device serial shown correctly, type adb reboot-bootloader
5. Device will reboot into fastboot and you would see Fastboot USB on phone screen
6. Once there , type fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
7. Next type fastboot reboot-bootloader
8. After you type the last line, you should see S-On at the top of the bootloader screen. If so, you are all set.
let me know if this helped

Hi I recently obtained a bunch of free smart phones via my job at t-mobile and people upgrading and just not wanting their old smart phones. One of them was a HTC sensation. I have rooted many phones for years now but this one wants to give me issues. I rooted it, got super user installed and CWM recovery and installed jellybean. When it boots into CM10 it never gets past the boot screen. In HBOOT it says son rl HBOOT 1.27.0000. I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong. I did a full wipe and everything. Lucky for me this is a play phone but I still would like to get it up and running. If anyone could please help me figure this out. Thank you
First, please do not post questions in the dev section.
Second, you're s-on so you have to flash your boot.img through fastboot. The boot partition is protected with s-on...
And where do I obtain the boot.img? Sorry for posting here I guess nobody had a problem with it in the DINC forums.

First get familiar with fastboot commands: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Fastboot
You'll need adb and fastboot setup on your computer and you'll use the following command from terminal or cmd prompt:
Code:
fastboot flash boot /path/to/<boot>.img
Your other option is to flash a rom that uses the stock boot image. There are two TMOUS based roms to choose from: mine, or ARHD.
Have you update to Firmwaer 3.33?

Hello guys, i hope someone can help me. This is my situation:
At the begining i had a stock rom 4.1.1 from AT&T. I succesfully did S-OFF and installed Super CID 1111111. Everything went great but my goal was to install the Germany T-Mobile 4.2.2, so, the next step i did was to follow a tutorial wich guided me to install team win recovery. I copied the rom i mentioned to the sd card and when i tried to flash it failed. So, i did a wipe (Im so stupid ) and now i had no OS. after that, i tried to install ClockWorkMod to follow another tutorial and fix that. I did it using adb but when i tried to reboot in recovery it got stuck in a black screen and i need to push the three buttons for a long time to power it off. Since that, i turn it on, put it in fastboot mode but the console don't even recognize it when i try to use adb (It find no adb devices). So, i did a mess with my phone and i cant find a solution.
Can anyone help me please? Thank you so much guys.
PD: If you need any other details i can let you know anything.
I'm gonna need your bootloader details please. Also, what error did you receive in recovery when trying to flash the T-Mobile ROM?
The reason adb commands aren't working is because you need to use fastboot commands when connected in fastboot mode. I'd suggest flashing TWRP recovery back into the phone, mount the storage, copy a ROM across and flash it.

Is that usefull?
I really dont rememeber exactly, but all i can remember was a Failure red legend in the TWRP. and as i said, i cant get the console to recognize the phone by adb :/
EDIT: i succesfully installed again Team Win Recovery. I moved the EVITA_UL_JB_50_S_TMO_DE_5.08.111.2_By_Turge ROM to the sdcard and try to flash but i it fails in the "Updating partition details...", i cant get any further. No OS.
Yeah that's exactly what I needed to see. Like I said, adb isn't going to work, you need to use fastboot commands. So use fastboot to flash TWRP recovery back onto the phone and try flashing a ROM. If that doesn't work I'd suggest running an RUU.

EDIT: i succesfully installed again Team Win Recovery. I moved the EVITA_UL_JB_50_S_TMO_DE_5.08.111.2_By_Turge ROM to the sdcard and try to flash but i it fails in the "Updating partition details...", i cant get any further. No OS.
Which version of TWRP are you using? Did you check the md5 of the ROM?

Hello timmaaa, i really appreciate your help. I did check the md5 checksum and the rom seems to be ok. As i mentioned before, the problems shows up when the flashing process steps to the partition detail "something" process. If you are ok with that, i can let you get into my computer by Teamviewer or some other remote control software so that way you can see anything you need by yourself. I don't know the Team Win Recovery version installed and i'm in my work right know and i didn't bring the htc with me, i'll let you know the version as soon as i get home.
I don't have a PC at the moment so Teamviewer isn't a possibility, just post the TWRP version when you can.

Ok, no problem. The version of TWRP is v2.5.0.0
That's your problem, 2.5 is full of bugs. Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone and try again.

If you have done your research then you must have found the thread [GUIDE][6 OCT] Non-Sony Screen Panel Desire S Users Lounge + How-To which gives you everything you can ever possibly need.

Yes. If ur s-on u must always flash boot.img via fastboot commands straight after u flash the rom.

It won't show up in odin, that's for Samsung devices.
You'll need adb and fastboot set up on your computer.
Look at the steps in tutorials in the desire s general section for the correct procedure for flashing the boot.img.

You don't "click" on ADB. You need to open a command line window and run the relevant ADB command from there. Search, there is a very good ADB guide somewhere on XDA with everything you will ever need.

Ok i think iv figured out fastboot can run commands and stuff on it seems cool.
But The problem I have now is that my usb dosent show the phone it charges but dosent recognize it in the bottom corner?
Iv installed drivers for it etc
Is that coz i messed up the rom ?
Fasboot isnt picking it up
Is your phone in fastboot mode? (reboot to bootloader, should say fastboot USB at the top)
UPDATE
Ok so now I have a laptop that will recognise it and drivers installed I tried RUU official 4.0 stock or ROM update Utility 1.0.6.2012 . It finds phone fine and gets through all the steps but when it is updating signature it cuts off and i get ERROR 155 : UNKMOWN ERROR.
Is this the right RUU stock?
It said it was updating image version 13 ( bunch of number) to 14( bunch of numbers)
Anyone know a RUU STOCK Rom that would work ?

why do you want installing stock RUU..?, or do you want your phone to return to the stock..?, what do you wanted exactly..?
if you wanna installing custom rom..then you just need find a custom rom you want (find the right custom rom that are still had compatible kernel for hitachi or mddi panel)..then flashing it through TWRP recovery..after that..you must flashing boot.img (the kernel is already included in this boot.img) that are extracted from the custom rom.zip that you're already installed..flashing it through FASTBOOT mode..with fastboot command "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
hopefully this can help...
