Insecure kernel - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I am on the Odin one click UCLE2 leak. I am rooted with busybox installed and of course cwm touch. I am wanting to flash a insecure kernel so I can change boot animations etc etc.. I found a insecure UCLE2 kernel from the one stop for all things ics post in sticky on the dev section so I have a few questions if someone would be so kind to answer.
1. Does just flashing the kernel only in cwm will it wipe my data? Apps pics music etc etc??
2. Will I lose root???
3. Will I lose cwm touch?
4. With what app can I back up just my kernel and zip it in case I want to flash it back in cwm?
5. What is meant by insecure kernel?
Thanks ahead of time. I've been a flashaholic for a long time now but I have not ever just flashed the kernel only its been either rom thru cwm or or firmware or recovery image in Odin so I'm not real sure if data will be lost. Better safe than sorry.

1) No
2) No
3) No
4) Don't know, never used an app for that. You can extract the stock kernel from the rom, or I have the stock kernel if you need it.
5) Allows different boot animations and a couple other things
All you do is wipe cache and dalvik cache and then flash the kernel. I flash a kernel, wait 30 seconds, flash it again, and wait another 30 seconds before reboot to ensure it sticks correctly.

5. It means that ro.secure=0 is set in default.prop and adb daemon that supports it is installed so that adb shell has root privileges at first login.

Help Please!!!

Alright, I rooted my Nexus S 4G this guide. My phone was running 2.3.5 but I figured that these steps in Terminal wouldn't really change. When I flashed the "recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img" it didn't install properly (I assume because it was out of date/wrong version) Anyway, I flashed this instead with no problems.
In my euphoria over solving my clockwork problem, I forgot to flash the "su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip" and flashed the current version of MIUI. I am now stuck in a bootloop and I cannot enter recovery by using power+volume. I cannot turn the phone off. I can load the bootloader screen using Terminal while I plug it into my computer, but I don't know what to flash to fix the phone, and start over/end up with a Nexus running MIUI.
i dont know much about macs but you can flash the img files through fastboot.

I can handle the mac part if you can show me which files to flash in which order to make my phone work again.
Okay this will take your phone back to stock. Download the grj22 image files. When you open it up it should have like 4 or 5 img files. After that open up cmd and type in the commands buglesspete has in his first post. It should be under "return to stock" or sometime like that.

Just a general hint... if oyu own a Nexus S 4G, Crespo isn't the right codename to look for.. it's crespo4g. Get the cwm recovery from here and flash the 4G version via "fastboot flash recovery <recoveryname>.img": http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988686

I have no experience with the 4G version of this phone but I can tell your that bootloops are usually caused by failing permissions (fix permissions in cwm rec) or missing wipes before isntalling the actual rom.
So I'd go back to start, flash the 4g recovery, wipe everything (including "mount and storage"'s /boot and then flash MIUI for 4g from here afterwards.
Basically, that MIUI (and most other custom roms) includes superuser.zip aka root. No need to root the devices before, all you need is an unlocked bootloader.

What he said, I always wipe 3x everything just to make sure it is a clean install. And some people will also suggest to let the rom boot up normally before flashing a different kernel.

wiping 3 times is senseless! and the kernel should be flashed right after the rom install!
oh and wiping the dalvik cache and chache after a rom-update is also senseless! the updater-script do this automatic!

your assuming that the devs took the time to make sure to include that

GB OTA manual update.zip-leaked!

Thanks to spjetrovic we have the update.zip for the GB update for your use now
http://www.multiupload.com/HAG3RFTBY6
1. Follow imnuts instructions for preparing for OTA found here http://rootzwiki.com/topic/10202-how-to-prepare-for-the-gb-ota/
2. place file on root of SD card and rename to update.zip
3. boot to stock recovery and select apply update.zip from sd card
It takes a while to complete, so be patient. Make sure you have plenty of battery.
ps. No one is responsible for what you do to your phone except you. This has been tested by at least a dozen people in IRC and works flawlessly when you follow the directions.
pss. this build is 4 days newer than "EP4P" regardless of what the numbering scheme may be.
This belongs in the dev section, also what is included? ROM, KERNEL, RADIO?

GOS,
It is the OTA update that will roll out later next week. It contains all the changes from EE4 to EP4 rom/kernel/recovery/ect.. It is just changes, by no way a stand-alone flash.
And I didn't post in Development, because I didn't develop it. It can be moved if the mods think it belongs there.
Did any of you successfully rooted this?
Just in case no one completely reads the post by Imnuts because I know most people don't.....
You HAVE to flash imoseyon's kernel or you recovery will NOT stick!

you can't let the phone boot after you flash CWM. unselect auto-reboot and then boot straight to recovery after flash
Here are my instructions for getting all this to work:
BEFORE YOU ODIN BACK TO EE4, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SU FLASHABLE ZIP, THE OTA UPDATE AND IMOSEYON'S KERNEL ON YOUR SDCARD!
Make sure the update file is renamed to "update" and that it's on the root of your sdcard. (not in any folders or anything)
Odin back to EE4. Reboot normally.
Turn the phone off, then reboot into Stock Recovery and run the update.
Once the update finishes and the phone boots regularly. Reboot into Download Mode and plug the phone into the computer.
Start Odin, Uncheck "Auto Reboot", select PDA, NOT PHONE!
Click on the PDA tab and find your recovery file then click "start."
Once it is done and you see the word "PASS" on Odin, unplug the usb cable and press down all three buttons to boot into recovery (volume up, home, power)
Once in recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, mount /system and flash the SU flashable zip.
Go back and wipe cache and dalvik again, mount /system again and flash the kernel.
After that, your recovery will stick and you're good to go. You are now rooted and running on EP4D.

You will only get this OTA or be able to use this update if you are on stock, unrooted EE4. You can't get there from any other point.
You can also wait a bit (probably less than a week) and someone will publish full Odins of EP4D. I'm personally not leaving EP4P until we have a deodexed version of EP4D and some themes.
Ah hell..that is a pain in the ass. I'll wait to see if they fixed the crackling on incoming calls before I go through the hassel.

You gain video and hdmi back. You may have to make a slight change to one of the void files if you lose access to your CD card.
I see. Thank you for the help! I was told about this file before, but when I tried editing it last time I messed it up... don't you edit the last value to a different number or something? Do you know what number that is? Thank you guys for the help, I really do appreciate it, what with all these awesome leaks. :]

You will also lose your voodoo filesystem optimizations, init scripting support and the charginghacks/undervolt capabilities (if you like Entropy's kernel).

used sgs kernel flasher to flash the kernel

Flashing a kernel

Can anyone point me in the direction of a step-by-step process for flashing a new kernel into a ROM?
I want to try the new Matrix 4.0.3 kernel.
Download kernel put on SD card. Go into recovery. (Power plus volume up choose recovery hit power) wipe cache partition go to advance menu wipe dalvik. Go back install zip from SD card. Choose zip. Look for your kernel hit install reboot system. Enjoy.

Hello.
The step to flash your kernel is simple. Donwload the last version compatible ICS and put to SDCARD. Restart your phone to recovery mod : Install zip from sdcard.
Warning choose a compatible kernel.. I have try Glados V2.0.

Dont flash anything yet.. Mathkid is re-releasing do to errors
I personally always use rom manager... Flash cwm.... Pick the nexus u curently have... Once it loads.. Flash rom from sd.... Locate the file ... Wipe dalvik and cache... Ok!
It might just send u to fastboot mode... Just reboot and follow the same steps... Should get it the second time
-Google Galaxy Tab
That easy, huh? I've had ICS on since yesterday, should I flash it again THEN do the kernel, or can I just flash the kernel now and see how it goes?
And with glados, what's the difference between the BFS and CFS versions?

Install new Eclipse ROM over existing ROM

Hey, not sure of what I need to do. I have read things for clean installs, then things to unbrick your phone. I haven't seen anything for installing a newer rom.
I have the GingerBread unbloated root ROM. Nothing crazy. I want to install the newest Eclipse ROM. I downloaded the eclipse file. However, not 100% sure how to install this. When I installed my previous rom i did it with Odin. Can anybody point me in the right direction?
Isn't there an Odin for eclipse? If not you need to Odin cwm and then flash eclipse through that. Portip: you need to go into cwm on the first reboot or you will have to start over

Go here to install CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106608 Once you have CWM save whatever you need to save in Titanium Backup or Google or however u save ur stuff; make sure the ROM u want is on ur SD card (kernel too, i suggest PJB if u dont have it already) and power off ur phone. then boot into CWM (Vol up, home, and power together until u see the samsung logo, then let go of power button but hold the other two until you see the text this is CWM)
You dont HAVE to do a wipe data/factory reset, but it is highly suggested. wipe cache. go to advanced and wipe dalvik. Then just choose flash file from sd card, choose ur ROM and ur done.

Yes, that's exactly what I did. I installed the newest CWM first (You can find the thread in the development section) and then I installed eclipse v1.4 over the debloated/deodexed EP4D. Wipe data, cache, and Dalvik cache of course before installing the new ROM. Reboot and then go back into recovery and install PBJ 0130 kernel and you'll be good to go. Also, if you run into superuser problems, like losing root access, just reinstall the newest superuser in CWM.

I'm sure this is a noob question, but where/how do I plug SuperUser in through CWM. I assume there is a zip that I can load once i'm up in CWM recovery. If so, would you be kind enough to point in the right direction to get it? (I know, search is my friend, but I'm on a tight clock today.)

I also Found a SuperUser Pack that is a .Zip file over at Tom's world that's flashable through CWM. I didn't use it, but I did download it.
