Install new Eclipse ROM over existing ROM - Verizon Droid Charge

Hey, not sure of what I need to do. I have read things for clean installs, then things to unbrick your phone. I haven't seen anything for installing a newer rom.
I have the GingerBread unbloated root ROM. Nothing crazy. I want to install the newest Eclipse ROM. I downloaded the eclipse file. However, not 100% sure how to install this. When I installed my previous rom i did it with Odin. Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Isn't there an Odin for eclipse? If not you need to Odin cwm and then flash eclipse through that. Portip: you need to go into cwm on the first reboot or you will have to start over
Charged up post!

Go here to install CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106608 Once you have CWM save whatever you need to save in Titanium Backup or Google or however u save ur stuff; make sure the ROM u want is on ur SD card (kernel too, i suggest PJB if u dont have it already) and power off ur phone. then boot into CWM (Vol up, home, and power together until u see the samsung logo, then let go of power button but hold the other two until you see the text this is CWM)
You dont HAVE to do a wipe data/factory reset, but it is highly suggested. wipe cache. go to advanced and wipe dalvik. Then just choose flash file from sd card, choose ur ROM and ur done.

If you're coming from another Rom, it is highly recommended to do full wipe. Factory data, cache, dalvik. Mount system first, then flash Rom.

Where is this PJB kernel?

Can I follow this procedure coming from deodexed EP4D debloated running Imnuts kernel (4.0. something) and EXT4?

Yes, that's exactly what I did. I installed the newest CWM first (You can find the thread in the development section) and then I installed eclipse v1.4 over the debloated/deodexed EP4D. Wipe data, cache, and Dalvik cache of course before installing the new ROM. Reboot and then go back into recovery and install PBJ 0130 kernel and you'll be good to go. Also, if you run into superuser problems, like losing root access, just reinstall the newest superuser in CWM.

So get the newest version of CWM, get PBJT, use odin to put on CWM, flash the PBJT kernel, Wipe data, davik, cahce, then flash the eclipse rom?

Yes but I flashed the new ROM first after wiping everything and then installed the new kernel (0130 PBJ) after first full boot on the new ROM.

That procedure worked like champ. .... except:
as you suggested, Superuser lost root access.
I'm sure this is a noob question, but where/how do I plug SuperUser in through CWM. I assume there is a zip that I can load once i'm up in CWM recovery. If so, would you be kind enough to point in the right direction to get it? (I know, search is my friend, but I'm on a tight clock today.)
[EDIT] - I ran "Fix permissions" in CWM. Rebooted, and it had SU working properly.
I also Found a SuperUser Pack that is a .Zip file over at Tom's world that's flashable through CWM. I didn't use it, but I did download it.
Many thanks. You got me on Eclipse in a record amount of time.

flashed bionix frost rom stuck on galaxy s screen

Ok so im new and I flashed my SGS4G using these directions to a T!
i would start with krylon final cwm. his directions are pretty straightforward. i used root explorer to move the file where it needed to be.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1099374
i am assuming you downloaded the rom already from the CWM rom section in the bible. its up to you. im biased towards bionix frost, but black ice is just as amazing.
i would also dl the ext converter and bali 3.1 kernel as well. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1123039) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1080871). place all of the zip files you download into the root of your sd card....which means that if you connect your phone to the computer and open it using windows explorer, it is that first window, which lists all of the folders. dont put these files in folders or anything.
once that is done, i restarted my phone in recovery shutting down fully and pressing the power+volume up+volume down. once there, i went to reinstall packages to get into cwm.
then when this loads, i wiped the system/factory reset and wiped the cache. then i went to mounts and storage and mounted my system. (the final mounting output should be: unmount, mount, mount, unmount). i then scrolled to "go back"
i choose install zip file from sd card. choose zip file, which should be the second option if my memory serves me right. scroll of ext converter and install that one. then when that is done, go back to install file from sd card, choose black ice or frost (i LOVE frost) and install that one. then when that is done, i flash my bali 3.1 uv kernel. when that is flashed, i click go back and choose reboot system. once that is done, you will see the galaxy s screen for like 5 min or so followed by the team whiskey logo. once you see this, it will take another minute or so to load up. once you see that the rom loads up...LET THE PHONE SIT FOR 10 minutes. i know it seems long, but just let it sit.
after 10 min or so, i would go into your about phone options and check and see that you have bali3.1 and that the rom is correct.
do these tweaks as well
fugu (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1127069)
init.d (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ghlight=init.d)
you can flash a modem too (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1117331) using the same process as flashing any other zip file.
remember, the first option in choosing a zip file is update.zip from krylons final cwm. do not flash this after the rom/ext/whatever. im not sure if this has been addressed (im still a noob), but everytime i did that, i bricked my phone. lol. so just to answer your question before you wonder...cause i always wondered whether i should flash that or not. lol.
But after all this I get stuck at the galaxy S screen for more than 5minutes although it will let me back into recovery mode. Its called the "CwM voodoo lagfix recovery v3.0.2.8x" and then gives me a list of options. WHAT SHOULD I DO???
I would ODIN back to KD1 and redo it, but really make sure you have the mounts correct (I know you checked this already, but check it again.) If it still does not work, then I would still go back to KD1 and then try it again by re-downloading all the zip files again. That's what I had to do.
Those were my directions! Was my fault. Ext4 needs a supported kernel. You have one now. Go back into cwm and retry everything starting from wiping the cache and system. sorry about that.
Check your mounts after the ext4 converter just to be safe.

Yeah haha well im just gld i was able to fix it without odin. thats sounds like a pain... Any Jager555 i noticed youre running Bali 3.1 UV voodoo I downloaded the bail v3.1 voodoo is that why it didnt work?

No, it didn't work cause you were coming off of stock. The ext4 converter needs a compatible kernel...which you didn't have. Now that you have that red cwm, you are running a compatible kernel. So everything should work now. Reflash everything like I started before after you wipe everything. It should work ok. Like I said it was my fault for not mentioning that, not something you did.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
If you are no longer on the bali kernel, flash bionix, so you have bali 2.1, and then flash everything according to my directions. Ext4 will only work if you have the compatible kernel.

wipe the data and cache. check mounts. flash ext4. check mounts. flash bionix. flash 3.1. go back. reboot system from cwm. wait. let me know how it goes. i'll be online.

Flashing a kernel

Can anyone point me in the direction of a step-by-step process for flashing a new kernel into a ROM?
I want to try the new Matrix 4.0.3 kernel.
Download kernel put on SD card. Go into recovery. (Power plus volume up choose recovery hit power) wipe cache partition go to advance menu wipe dalvik. Go back install zip from SD card. Choose zip. Look for your kernel hit install reboot system. Enjoy.

Hello.
The step to flash your kernel is simple. Donwload the last version compatible ICS and put to SDCARD. Restart your phone to recovery mod : Install zip from sdcard.
Warning choose a compatible kernel.. I have try Glados V2.0.

Dont flash anything yet.. Mathkid is re-releasing do to errors
I personally always use rom manager... Flash cwm.... Pick the nexus u curently have... Once it loads.. Flash rom from sd.... Locate the file ... Wipe dalvik and cache... Ok!
It might just send u to fastboot mode... Just reboot and follow the same steps... Should get it the second time
-Google Galaxy Tab
That easy, huh? I've had ICS on since yesterday, should I flash it again THEN do the kernel, or can I just flash the kernel now and see how it goes?
And with glados, what's the difference between the BFS and CFS versions?

[Q] Stuck on "Performing factory data reset"

I removed the ICS build and use ODIN to return back to stock build.
Still having some problem so i did a data reset. It keep getting stuck there and i already done it three times.
Any suggestions?
So you flashed GB stock.tar through Odin? Do you mean factory/data reset in clockwork recovery? Flashing back to stock should take away your root so you would have to flash CWM again, make a nandroid backup, and flash superuser zip again.
What problems where you having before and after the ICS build?
Explain a bit further exactly what you did.
I installed STOCK Tar using ODIN.
It is booting up fine except i keep getting errors like "android.process.acore" has stopped unexpectedly. Most of the android apps is not working, like phone, contacts, calendars, etc.
I try to do a factory reset and it keep stopping halfway and hangs.
Your going to have to flash the kj2 modem. I had the same problem. I saw that the ucalc4 was still there, its on its own partition so it doesn't get changed when you flash stock tar. What I did...
1. Flash cwm in Odin
2. Boot into cwm (do backup)
3. Flash kj2 modem (I did it twice)
4. Reboot
5. Check baseband (should be uckj2)
This made the FC's go away. It seemed to me that the stock tar doesn't like that baseband, I can't explain why though. Didn't make sense to me but I fixed it. Also I found the ICS leak doesn't like stock recovery. Fyi

Build is one thing, baseband is different. When you flash stock your build will be uckj2, you say your on it. OK good. Now check your baseband, will probably still be the ICS baseband ucalc4, that is your modem. You need to flash the uckj2 modem in cwm. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20157930
Once you flash that your baseband will be uckj2. That should fix your fc's. Did for me. If not, you may need to try something else which I will explain if need be that will clean things up.

OK. What you need to do then is clean things up. There are two ways that I use but I prefer #1.
1. Flash darkside superwipe in cwm. Do a battery pull. Go into Odin and flash k0nanes tar.
OR
2. Flash stock recovery. Wipe data/factory reset. Do a battery pull. Go into Odin and flash k0nanes tar.

G2X can't load custom roms, freezes at flash screen

No matter what custom rom I try to load on my G2X, it will go through, install the rom, and then when it reboots past the LG screen, it gets to whatever custom boot screen in on the rom, and just locks up. The only way I can get it to boot after that point is to NVFlash back to stock.
Tried searching through this site and google, but can't find a solution.
You need to say what the process is that you attempted to do. Wipes and what not.

Rooted phone, added Clockwork, booted into CW recovery, did data and cache wipes, installed CM7 from SD card, rebooted, phone froze at custom boot screen. Reboot, still frozen. Would not boot at all.
Used NVFlash to reinstall stock image on phone, rooted phone, CW recovery, data and cache wipes, installed a different rom for my phone model, same result. Back to stock using same process, tried a third rom using same process, same result, frozen phone that won't go beyond boot screen.
Using this same process on my old T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, it worked perfectly on several different roms.
It sounds like you may have a ROM for a different model phone. Can you send a link to the ROM that you downloaded for us to see?
Also, is your phone a T-Mobile G2x or an LG Optimus 2x (O2x).

The CM7 link was straight from the CM7 site, it wasn't an experimental mod or anything, it was the stable one listed under the G2X.

Considering cm roms are supposed to wipe system prior to flash, I couldn't imagine what is going on. Try wiping system just in case and after that, try installing from internal as well. Other options would be download other ways, like on PC or from phone transfer the files differently. Other then that can't really help you.

The last time I pulled it directly on my phone, the other times I downloaded via my PC and then copied the file. Had been via external so I tried internal that last time too. I'm close to madness, but I'm also too stubborn to give up.
I was thinking maybe I need to replace the kernel, but I'm not sure whether that's the problem or which Kernel to try if I did need to.
I had a similar issue on a tablet of mine. What version of CWM are you using? Are you using the touch version? The touch version has had some boot problems. Did you try partition the SDCard in the advanced settings? I forget which I used on my phone. Has anyone else partitioned theirs?
Well, not knowing which peice is broken let me just recap my process for you and see how it works:
1. Use OneClick NVFlash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 and select Flash CWM 5.0.2.0
2. Boot to CWM
3. format cache
4. format data
5. format system
6. format Dalvik cache
7. flash ROM from external/internal memory
8. flash kernel (optional, not required unless doing kernel testing)
9. flash gapps-package
10. fix permissions
11. reboot
I have not had this process screw up once for me so far. If this process does not work for you then you leave me really be scratching my skull...

2. Boot to CWM
3. format cache
4. format data
5. format system
6. format Dalvik cache
7. flash ROM from external/internal memory
8. flash kernel (optional, not required unless doing kernel testing)
9. flash gapps-package
10. fix permissions
11. reboot
I have not had this process screw up once for me so far. If this process does not work for you then you leave me really be scratching my skull...

[Q] Changing Rom

I am currently running CM 10 and I want to switch roms but I am not sure how... I have 4EXT recovery and I'm not sure how to re-flash the rom.. Can someone help me?
Put the ROM zip to SD card. Go to recovery and do a factory reset. Then select the ROM zip and flash it.

You said you are running cm10 so its not the
first time that you change your rom. So you can flash the ROM without any problem.
But if your device is s-on you must flash
The rom with smartflash method. You can choose it in recovery. Sry for my bad English.

No.
Do not do a factory reset. This will just delete your user data. It will not delete the system data so if you try to install a new ROM overtop of an existing one that's different things could get messy. You want to do a full wipe, not just a factory reset.
The FIRST step is to make a backup of your currenr ROM. That way you can easily revert back to it as if you never left. This is valuable for many reasons. You may decide you don't like your new rom. Your new rom may have problems and not work properly and you'll want to go back to a working phone quickly. You may forget to back something up and will want to be able to extra some data from the backup (That's easy to do, but only if you have a backup). The list goes on and on.
Backing up your rom is super easy with 4EXT. You just tell it to back up your ROM and it will do the rest. It takes about 5 minutes.
Then you'll want to back up certain data that you'll want to use on your new ROM. Contacts, wifi access points, app data, text messages, etc etc etc. Whatever you want. Use Titanium Backup. It's super easy to use and works great. It will let you take all your apps and data off one ROM and put it onto another.
After you back up your rom, boot into recovery and do a full wipe using "format all partitions (except SD card)". The option is written exactly like that in the menu. You can't miss it. This will format the data and system files so you'll have a blank slate to install a new ROM from.
NOW flash the new rom. Then flash GApps if required. Boot the phone.
Download Titanium Backup from teh Play Store and use it to restore apps and data you want. (Your saves Titanium data will be ready to use when you install Titanium on the new ROM)
Enjoy your new ROM.

Hello
ust to confirm, instead of using 4EXT im using CWM recovery. I have read that 4EXT and CWM actually does the same job(recovery) so using CWM does not affect the subsequent steps right? (ie using Titanium Backup to back up messages and contacts and doing a full wipe). it will be the same process just using different recovery tool right?

In theory, yes. But some roms don't install properly from cwm and some absolutely require 4ext due to the use of aroma installer.
Just switch to 4ext. Takes 2 seconds to switch. The app doss all the work to install the recovery.

In my opinion 4ext is better than cmw but cmw show the aroma installer and install everything. But 4ext is better at all.

You don't even have to do all that if you're willing to buy the $3 4EXT app.
The guide you'll find will have to flash 4EXT with a PM58IMG file in the bootloader. It's easy enough. But you'll lack the app that goes with it that lets you manage your backups, control the recovery module, and update the recovery quickly and easily when new versions are available.
Just buy the 4EXT app on the play store, then from within the app tell it to install the 4EXT recovery module and it'll install the recovery for you quickly and easily.
Plus you're giving $3 to a developer who made a REALLY fantastic recovery and app for you.
