G2X can't load custom roms, freezes at flash screen - T-Mobile LG G2x

No matter what custom rom I try to load on my G2X, it will go through, install the rom, and then when it reboots past the LG screen, it gets to whatever custom boot screen in on the rom, and just locks up. The only way I can get it to boot after that point is to NVFlash back to stock.
Tried searching through this site and google, but can't find a solution.

You need to say what the process is that you attempted to do. Wipes and what not.

Rooted phone, added Clockwork, booted into CW recovery, did data and cache wipes, installed CM7 from SD card, rebooted, phone froze at custom boot screen. Reboot, still frozen. Would not boot at all.
Used NVFlash to reinstall stock image on phone, rooted phone, CW recovery, data and cache wipes, installed a different rom for my phone model, same result. Back to stock using same process, tried a third rom using same process, same result, frozen phone that won't go beyond boot screen.
Using this same process on my old T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, it worked perfectly on several different roms.

It sounds like you may have a ROM for a different model phone. Can you send a link to the ROM that you downloaded for us to see?
Also, is your phone a T-Mobile G2x or an LG Optimus 2x (O2x).

It is a T-mobile G2X, LG-P999DW.
The CM7 link was straight from the CM7 site, it wasn't an experimental mod or anything, it was the stable one listed under the G2X.

Considering cm roms are supposed to wipe system prior to flash, I couldn't imagine what is going on. Try wiping system just in case and after that, try installing from internal as well. Other options would be download other ways, like on PC or from phone transfer the files differently. Other then that can't really help you.

The last time I pulled it directly on my phone, the other times I downloaded via my PC and then copied the file. Had been via external so I tried internal that last time too. I'm close to madness, but I'm also too stubborn to give up.
I was thinking maybe I need to replace the kernel, but I'm not sure whether that's the problem or which Kernel to try if I did need to.

I had a similar issue on a tablet of mine. What version of CWM are you using? Are you using the touch version? The touch version has had some boot problems. Did you try partition the SDCard in the advanced settings? I forget which I used on my phone. Has anyone else partitioned theirs?

Well, not knowing which peice is broken let me just recap my process for you and see how it works:
1. Use OneClick NVFlash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 and select Flash CWM 5.0.2.0
2. Boot to CWM
3. format cache
4. format data
5. format system
6. format Dalvik cache
7. flash ROM from external/internal memory
8. flash kernel (optional, not required unless doing kernel testing)
9. flash gapps-package
10. fix permissions
11. reboot
I have not had this process screw up once for me so far. If this process does not work for you then you leave me really be scratching my skull...

Fix Vibrant 4G Clockword recovery Mod and use ROM Manager for Backup and ROM Flashing

I am modifying this post removing some steps:
Note that you can always go back to orignal Odin ROM using Vibrant Download Mode in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978836
You should know what you are doing, otherwise I am not reponsible for any device brick.
1- Use SuperOneClick 1.7 to gain root (USB debugging enabled).
Open SuperOneClick and run Shell Root with your phone plugged in.
Use Rage option, then once done, reboot the phone and verify root using "Root Checker" from the Market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Download "3e_recovery_installer.zip" from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
run the 3e Recovery Installer. When finished, close.
3. Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery via ROM Manager from market by selecting "Vibrant" when asked for phone type. Then reboot into recovery. (You may need to reboot your phone if you get stuck on the ROM Manager "Reboot to Recovery" screen) (Just reboot, then attempt to reboot into recovery again)
At the blue recovery select "reinstall packages". The first time will fail, run it once more, and you should now have the green CWM Recovery menu.
4. Install Kernel Flasher from the Market and backup the kernel.
5. use Rom Manager to flash Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox with data to SD update.zip to fix Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox from below link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655
6- When finshed you should be able to backup and restore the ROM using Rom Mananger.

I guess I'm the first casualty of this. I did everything to the letter in the post up to step five. Once i flashed 4g_sd-fix_New in rom manager it the phone rebooted and did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do. It no factory reset my phone and neither the sd card nor the internal storage mount.
Any help would be appreciated here.

I tried using Odin to flash to stock and I'm still unable to get data connection unless I connect to Wifi.
I sure hope you modified the SD Fix.....
That fix was created by Eugene and I to fix mounting for the Vibrant. If flashed to a 4G, it'll break.
I wouldn't recommend this method at all, this looks risky. Just wait for krylon or koush to come out with a proper release of cwm. I have offered to lend my phone to either of them and im sure as soon as either one has the time they will get it going.
I don't like doing things half ass, and while the work is appreciated i wouldn't recommend this guide to the average user as i lost my first 4g to a similar guide.

Yes, Step 5 was created by us to allow both Internal and External SD to auto mount to the phone and PC on the VIBRANT.
We had to modify the stock 4G files to allow this due to the 4G only having a external SD.
For now, I'm reporting this thread due to it being just like the last "CWM for Vibrant works on the 4G" thread which caused bricks, which resulted in me having to create the ODIN image for everyone.
Please do not jump the gun. Be patient.

Help Please!!!

Alright, I rooted my Nexus S 4G this guide. My phone was running 2.3.5 but I figured that these steps in Terminal wouldn't really change. When I flashed the "recovery-clockwork-3.0.0.5-crespo.img" it didn't install properly (I assume because it was out of date/wrong version) Anyway, I flashed this instead with no problems.
In my euphoria over solving my clockwork problem, I forgot to flash the "su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip" and flashed the current version of MIUI. I am now stuck in a bootloop and I cannot enter recovery by using power+volume. I cannot turn the phone off. I can load the bootloader screen using Terminal while I plug it into my computer, but I don't know what to flash to fix the phone, and start over/end up with a Nexus running MIUI.
i dont know much about macs but you can flash the img files through fastboot.

I can handle the mac part if you can show me which files to flash in which order to make my phone work again.
Okay this will take your phone back to stock. Download the grj22 image files. When you open it up it should have like 4 or 5 img files. After that open up cmd and type in the commands buglesspete has in his first post. It should be under "return to stock" or sometime like that.

I have no experience with the 4G version of this phone but I can tell your that bootloops are usually caused by failing permissions (fix permissions in cwm rec) or missing wipes before isntalling the actual rom.
So I'd go back to start, flash the 4g recovery, wipe everything (including "mount and storage"'s /boot and then flash MIUI for 4g from here afterwards.
Basically, that MIUI (and most other custom roms) includes superuser.zip aka root. No need to root the devices before, all you need is an unlocked bootloader.

I Think It's Time To Start Loading Roms...

Well I rooted my inspire a couple days ago and I love how fast the speeds increased after I overclocked it as the speeds were pretty horrible before I did it. I'm using the stock rom and I'm also using Go Launcher EX, which I was using before I rooted it as well.
I would liketo get off the launchers now that I'm rooted and start loading other roms but I'm not very knowledgeable on getting started with it. I've downloaded ROM Manager so I could get started with loading other roms but I knew I had to do some research on it instead of jumping into it likethat.
After some research, I found that ROM Manager wouldn't be the best thing for me to start flashing or loading other roms with, as alot of people don't recommend it. Now, everyone is saying it's better to use ClockWorkMod but doesn't ROM Manager work with CWM? AS you can see I'm pretty confused with the way this works and I would appreciate some assistance on how to easily or safely load different roms without all the confusion.
I'm also using Titanium Backup Pro so I guess I'm set to start loading different roms...
Thanks in advance.
I apologize for not finishing the title since I posted this through the xda application and I cannot edit it. If any mods could please change it.
Edit: Thread is fixed.

This is a newb at rom flash so better to set him up right the first time than have him run into problems and never try again - thus ending what could become a awesome developer.
my method:
have md5 checked rom on pc
battery fully charged (check with something like current widget or battery calibration from market)
I use 4ext touch recovery
phone connected to pc
wipe data/factory reset
format all except sd
.(if coming from stock or changing from gb to ics vice/versa)
.mount usb storage
.backup sd card to pc
.un-mount usb
.format sd (if rom supports it I will partition a ext for apps and a swap)
mount usb
transfer rom
unmout usb
unplug from pc
flash rom
reboot
enjoy!
(please follow directions from developer on restoring apps/data)
Thanks for the details.
So would ROM Manager be safe to use on the inspire? I've seen people complain about it, is it only because it's not supported for their devices?

+1, I hardly use CWM all use, mainly use 4ext Touch Recovery and most ROMs will have that built-in, IMHO..I prefer 4ext Touch Recovery over CWM for flashing ROMs, interface is clean and easy to use

Essentially, it cleans your phone to a blank state (to put it very simply). Once it's finished cleaning, it flashes CWM. Then, you can use CWM to flash a ROM.
So, yes, it means no rom at first.
So what you need to do is put whatever ROM you want (as well as any additional files the dev says to use: Gapps, baseband fix, etc...) on your SD card, use the Batch Cleanup tool, then flash the ROM in CWM.
Remember, if you're using an Android 4.+ ROM (CM9, ICS, JB, etc...), you need to flash any GB-based ROM (CM7, Hellfire Phoenix, etc...) first, then flash the new ROM.
Also, here's the link to the Batch Cleanup tool's forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1590523

Ok so I've plugged my phone into the computer and the APX drivers aren't installing nor am I able to find them via windows update. Any suggestions?
Make sure you're putting the phone into apx mode. You should have the battery out and holding both power buttons down then plug in your USB cable.
Better yet here are the exact instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566681
As well, have you tried to flash any other ROM or kernel since that? You may want to flash a ROM then flash say, Faux' kernel, it uses a different method of writing the boot.img and may solve your problem. On a hunch I am thinking you're boot partition may be partly corrupt.
