I know we don't have NFC but what if we use another format of communication system?
S beam uses NFC for initial authentication contact then switches to wifi.
So we just need to switch the initial authentication system. There is another app already that uses ultrasonic waves from phone speakers to authenticate so this is very possible.

That's weird, we have NFC in the AT&T Galaxy Note i717.

Smart Stay will not work because it does not have the sensors required like the S3 does. Same applies to S Beam, as the International Note does not have NFC.

{NFC} Best NFC app for Skyrocket!

What are the goodies found in Market by my fellow users?
Is anyone used nfc yet?
Has anyone used nfc to pay in stores?
What apps do you use for nfc and why?
Pros Cons!
to my understanding the phone does in fact have NFC but it is disabled. Who knows when it will be enabled via official software/firmware updates.
so just pretend it does not have NFC, as, it doesn't.. yet..
Devs are implementing the ability to turn nfc on and off in custom roms. Custom roms with this will have the setting. In menu settings wireless and networks. The cm7 rom has this

If the Rogers version has it enabled, how hard would it be to enable it on AT&T's based on the Rogers version?
I am using BoneSTOCKeteer rom by playin4sheezy on my AT&T version, and you can enable/disable NFC. I didnt do any more than check to see if it could be done though.

Yeah that one is based off of the Rogers ROM. I've already tested the NFC feature and it works fine so it should work for you guys too if you're using BoneStocketeer

how did you test it?
On my Rogers phone, I saw the option to turn it on so I did. Never really tested it until one day my phone kept beeping. I looked at it and it scanned something. I realized it was scanning the chip on my credit card since I put my phone on top of my wallet.
I've turned it off since. I don't really know what else I can scan at this point.
The Galaxy Nexus demos of ICS showed NFC being used between those phones. I am sure this will become active for us Yanks once the official ICS firmware becomes available, if you are stock that is.

How to utilize the NFC chip in the Skyrocket

How do you utilize the NFC chip in the Skyrocket?
On the battery it says it is in there, and the phone shows the services are running but when I try to use the NFC service it says the phone is not equipped with NFC.
I tried to use it with the Paypal App.

If you have custom ROMs than you can enable it from setting but the att has locked NFC. Some BS.
Any custom roms you would recommend? I haven't found one that enables this feature.
I tried alien and melvin roms.

If your using CM9 or 10, this works great: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823701
yes
I was sick and tired of trying to find a straight answer, and ended up buying one without knowing.
Here's your answer : YES
The samsung galaxy tab 7 plus (the version with 3g, NOT the wifi only version) can be used as a normal phone to make calls and send sms WITHOUT any additional software.

That's interesting. I wouldn't have thought so. I believe the other responses on this thread are about the wi-fi only version of the Tab. I know mine is. The OP didn't specify which version, leaving everyone free to make assumptions. :silly:

I could get it working with my LG G2 with full notification by installing the following APK of Gear

Everything works but S health, Weather and some other touchwiz stuff. But notifications work great.

Any good app that unlocks phone when smartwatch is connected?

Hi!
I´m looking for a good (and preferable free) app that keeps the phone unlocked when the SW2 is connected via bluetooth.
Thank´s for any advice!
Try skiplock.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benhirashima.skiplock
Not affiliated with this app...I use it with my home WiFi and smartwatch 1... Have to enter pin once... And as long as smartwatch stays connected you don't need to enter pin again
sent from my S3.
I use tasker, disable screen security when watch is connected

Yeah skiplock works well but unfortunately is a bit expensive. I was debating whether to buy it but I'm hoping for a cheaper or free alternative
Just use tasker, I have had it working for ages

Problem with this software or the tasker BTNear function, is the battery consumption it requires to track the device.
Here is an alternative solution i made here that take virtually no battery, and root is not needed.
The trick is that it will not track the device itselft, but the notification Android make when the device is connected/disconnected.
here's a step-by-step mini guide to use tasker and smart connect to enable/disable lockscreen
hope it helps
cheers

Nice idea, however smart connect refuse to add action with low energy Bluetooth devices (Sony smartband for example)
A bit stupid because it is smart connect that notifies me if my smartband is connected or not.
