Questions about translating WP7 apps - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Greetings every one
First I have some information i need to know about translating WP7 apps
What I understood (Correct me if I was wrong) is:
1) The main language of any App is : English
2) The English Strings are available in a "DLL" file
3) The other languages are brought out from resources DLL files
4) The Translation will be triggered only if the phone is configured for the language of its country, ex: The German language will appear only if the phone settings are set for that.
If the above is true:
1) Could the English language be in a resource DLL file?
2) Could the main language of the App be Null?
If the above is possible:
So It is possible to translate any App for any unsupported language in the WP7 Phones with only one condition that the Phone support reading it.
If the above is correct:
Please i would like to translate your App into Arabic to unleash the capability of translating Apps in my Cultured language.
If the above is some kind possible:
My Idea is to make the English strings to be read from outside resource file then replace it with an Arabic resource file then Deploy the software in a Windows Phone and Voila.. it is in Arabic
I appreciate professional developer answers and the software developer to consider this and try to figure this out, it will help a lot of people with other languages that are not supported in WP7.
Best Regards
Azdy

Languange settings > SHARP W-ZERO3

Hi,
I guess I have three questions here and I guess this would be the best place to ask. I am a K-JAM user.
1. I am planning to get Sharp W-ZERO3 but it is in Japanese language. Does anyone one know how to change the language on WM5.0 system?
2. How does the WM5.0 language interface work? Is it embedded in the ROM? Hopefully someone can point me to a "Understanding the language interface of WM5.0 101" .
3. Is the method of changing the language of WM5.0 system the same across all devices?
Thanks.
Hi lamlamz!
Unfortunately changing language of any Windows Mobile device is not a simple matter.
There are two ways of changing the interface:
1. Get an English ROM image for your device (if there are any) and reflash. It's just like updating, and you can find instructions in the WiKi.
2. Get English MUIs. These are files that contain the interface resources (everything you see on the screen). If you can get a set of those, copy them to the windows directory of the device then set regional settings to English you will have an English speaking device.
There is a catch though: these files are exe and DLL files that only have resources (string, menus etc.) and no code, but to work on WM5 they still have to be signed.
I am not familiar with W-ZERO3 so I am not sure if you can find English ROM or MUIs for it. If you have some background in programming or just know how to edit resources you may be able to create some your self.
Here's how it works:
Let's say you have a file word.exe. You want it's interface in English so you take all the resources from it and put them in a file called word.exe.0409.mui (0409 is hex language code for English).
Good luck.
Thank you
Hi Levenum,
Thanks for your kind reply. Appreciate it.
I am not programmer but a an adventurous tech user.
I guess I will have to wait for English version to come out.
Thanks again.

Spellcheck in other languages?

Is there a way to change the language for the dictonary/spellcheck?
I live in Sweden and would like to be able to text in swedish and have the spellcheck enabled for Swedish language! Would also be nice if I could use the special characters on the keyboard!
Can someone help me please, is there a file that I have to replace or what do I have to do?
Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I'm from Poland and some smart people here just found that all required files for T9 PL settings are already on Touch Pro.
They just change some available languages on T9 (registry settings) and it works like hell Afair their exchange Italian for Polish. There is CAB file and steb by step guide to change settings for Polish language but I belive it can be easly adopted for other languages.
Link for this thread is here:

Is not impossible but it requires a lot of work....search for kitchen and wwe ROMs.
Thank you
But please put Link to this page so I can reach it easily
For the Vox, frauhottelmann has created wonderful multi-language ROMs and he has released a VOX kitchen, too. So you should just play with this kitchen and learn. The basics are:
1.) Applications (also of the OS) usually have dedicated language resource files (*.mui.<nn>) where <nn> indicates the language code.
2.) Settings / control panel translation is very difficult and adaptation usually depends on the availability of a matching lang.vol file
3.) T9 language dependent libraries are independent of above and are the easiest part to add for other languages. There are even installable versions for that.
1+2 are also linked to some simple registry changes.
You can lookup any thread for Windows Mobile dealing with translating ROMs - there are no differences between devices.

[Q] HTC Smartphone for localization - anyone interested ?

Anyone interested in HTC smartphone ? Built in WM6.5, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, microSD, etc...
In return need POLISH localization for smartphone (polish language). Actually phone has only english support.
We need POLISH POLSKI 0415 MUI files.
All the details will send to someone who is interested (phone model, original ROM WM6.5 to translate, this is non-touch screen device).
Thanks
Is it the same hTC Ozone that you were trying to translate a couple of months ago?
If so - I can try it.

HTC Ozone is almost fully translated by one person ... I have more phones to translate.
try you're looking for at melgurth or find at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1586293&postcount=73
I have listed a complete set of activities that you need to do for localization at the end of Beginners Guide to Windows Mobile (prepare for cooking). The various task's efforts vary quite much depending on the perfection of adaptation you want to achieve.
Especially the Settings Menu is very hard to translate due to its dependency on the system's generic provisioning handler (and related database entries for menu items).
Post is still OPEN
If anyone is interested in creating just CAB file with translated MUI files and registry entries of WM6.5 to PL POLISH POLSKI just let me know. In return will send smartphone.
I will send You the phone model to translate.
