What's the throttled speed?

When I got throttled, I was taken down to about 300kbps. It sucked.

What do you do to use that much data.. I only have 2 GB and I barely use it all up

Well if it makes you feel any better, those were my speeds with Sprint on a good day. But yeah, that sucks for sure, especially cause we pay more for ATT

After 3 weeks of usage I'm at 100mb of data, since I have a 300mb plan.
I use my phone a crapload.
But I have Wifi nearly everywhere, except in the car.
At my high school we have the Wifi passwords so I hook up to it when I'm in school, and I use my home Wifi network at home.

Damn, good money saving skills my man. I average 100mb a day, which puts me at 3gb of 5gb plan I have, therefore I can go tethering nuts the last couple days question though, I'm new to att, when and if I go over my 5gb cap does data shut off or just throttled. Any extra charges?

They charge you $10 for an extra gb wether you use all that one or not. Well that's how mine works I have the 3gb plan went over once by 462mb they just added $10 to my bill for 1 extra gb. With your 5gb plan it may be a little more than 10 not sure,
I didn't notice any speed reduction

On the tiered plans, there is no throttling. You just get charged $10/gb (rounded up, of course).

Of course you would, that would mean unlimited data, which they are trying to not give us, because it is better.

Anybody think a petition would be useful to say that we would rather be throttled (even aggressively, I'll let y'all decide what that means) than to be charged an extra $10 per gb. What about giving us an option between the two when we sign our contract?

Yes they still work for what it's worth. AT&T changed me to a different unlimited plan for LTE. The whole throttling data after 3GB on an unlimited plan bugs me. If they are going to throttle "unlimited" plans it should be at the point you exceed their highest tier plan which is 5GB at this time.

I just got the dreaded text from t-mo and was immediately throttled to .006mbps. Seriously, FML. I have like 20 days left in my cycle. ARRRRGGHHHH
I even was desperate enough to try the (now defunct) alternative APN internet1.voicestream.com. I even tried internets 2 and 3!!!

The way to get around data throttling is to have a friend that works at TMO and use their unused $5 employee data only plan. I now effectively have 5 more GB on a spare SIM card. Once I get throttled on my MT4G I start tethering on my MT3G.

6GB Already! - Tell Me Im Not Alone...

Hey gang, new TB owner here, previously a AT&T customer for 7+ years. With my Inspire it was nearly impossible to get to 5GB of data because my data speeds were dreadful so I mostly stayed on WiFi. With the TB I get insane speeds and I use 4G a "decent" amount but switch to WiFi when I'm home. I'm on day 19 of my billing cycle and have already used 6GB, WTF!!! I didn't see that coming. What are you guys averaging a month? I know we have unlimted data but don't want to draw any attention to myself.
Running BAMF 1.7 Stripped (not that it matters).
I'm on a revolution, got it on day 1. In the 11 days I had it for that billing cycle that ended the 6th I used 12gb with generous 4g and upto now now I've used 14gb so far with the same usage, I know what you mean lol

Am at 1.8 GB on day 7 of billing cycle. Runrate for about 8 GB in 30 days. With LTE being faster than most people's WIFI, I don't think you are alone...
6gb isn't too much actually compared to others. No worry Verizon isn't really into throttling everyones service contrary to the belief of some Verizon really is interested in keeping their costumers happy.
I hit 5gb before the billing rolled over. Iy happens when you download 10 Roms a month and stream music and video.
Cool. Glad to I'm not alone, when average over 20mb dl its easy to rip through data. LTE is the truth!

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with any tweaks to beat this damn 60kbps throttle from tmobile. I have tried the patch that was created for the froyo roms but it didn't work for me. There is no way around the cap. It is done of T-Mobiles servers and linked to your SIM card. Many people have tried to get around it without any luck.

I can dig what you're saying but I'd like to think of it as being resourceful rather than cheap. After all it is android, several exploits and loopholes exist for other devices already. Ill keep fishing and maybe I can figure it out. Maybe IP/MAC spoofing would work to avoid the asshats at T-Mobile.

thats what i did lol theres your throttle fix.
It's not a work-around to the T-Mobile cap exactly. But by fine tuning when and how your installed apps use data, can keep you under the cap. For example instead of streaming podcast with Mediafly I installed DogCatcher. I set the download permissions for the application to only update when connected to WiFi and plugged in.
That alone has cut my data usage in half. Fine tuning other settings in apps like email, facebook and twitter have also cut down my data usage. I went from always bumping the data cap to moving to the next lowest data rate plan.
Something to consider!

im not being cheap at all!! but is it possible i can up to the 10GB/ month? i just started a 2 yr contract 2 months ago and i get capped everymonth so far to 56k speeds...i pay 100 dollars a month and i think thats alot already! thats no fun when i dont get access to wifi everywhete like most of you.
If you change your phone number & get a new SIM chip it resets yer data usage. Setup google voice, get 5GIG plan - wait 2 weeks & spend $15 to have phone number changed and get another 5Gig. Two more weeks, billing cycle starts over, another 5GIG. Wait 2 more weeks and change phone number again - 5 more gig. Repeat every month. If you use google voice then everyone will still have your phone number. I think to get the 10gig plan it's 30 bucks so this saves you 15 bucks a month. Of course its also a huge pain in the ass for 15 bucks.
Lol that's actually pretty damn clever. A huge undertaking, but still clever. Well done.

I saw an article somewhere I think it was gizmodo, where its bad for you to use data when you have poor signal because....
1. The carrier measures what data they send, not what your phone receives.
2. If you have poor signal, there is definitely a loss of data from the tower to your phone so your getting charged regardless if your phone receives all of what is being sent.
So I may have hit over 4gb but my phone measurements was at 3.7gb

Netflix works quite well even at throttled speed.
Here's my beef with netflix. When I'm not throttled it streams FULL HD, killing my data.
When I'm throttle, it seems to use LESS data as it probably streams lower quality.
BUT I CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE ON MY PHONE.
Wish I could always stream lower quality to save data.

Yeah, everyone's situation is different. If you have access to WiFi at home and work, your network data usage can be close to nothing. I have a friend that still has a 1st gen iPhone, has WiFi at home and school, and his network data usage since first buying the phone 5 years ago is only a few gig!
Personally, I'm on WiFi at home, and don't typically have time to be streaming and other data hungry activities while out of the house. Other people don't even have any type of data connection at home, aside from their phone, and use the phone for everything.
I pulled a 60gb month from at&t 4-5 months ago

I have grandfathered in "unlimited" data like I'm sure a lot of people in this thread do. When you hit 5gb they usually throttle you to .5 mb download.. I'm sure there will be a class action lawsuit before too long about this.
