how much data have you used? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I am on grandfathered unlimited and used 10gb last month. Is that using too much? Will verizon notice Im tethering? Also for ppl that use wifi tether, is it the download or upload it shows in the app how much data im using?

I used 15 without tethering. I don't know when the alarm goes off or if it even does.

I use about 20gb a month watching netflix

I'm always using more than 7Gb,and sometimes more a month

I doubt they would notice... For the past year and a half since I had my thunderbolt and then DROID razr I was using wifi tether heavily since I didn't have home internet service. And since my 4G speed was great I was playing battlefield online. I was averaging between 120gb and 140gb a month and they never said nothing... So I think your safe... 10 gb is nothing...

6GB Already! - Tell Me Im Not Alone...

Hey gang, new TB owner here, previously a AT&T customer for 7+ years. With my Inspire it was nearly impossible to get to 5GB of data because my data speeds were dreadful so I mostly stayed on WiFi. With the TB I get insane speeds and I use 4G a "decent" amount but switch to WiFi when I'm home. I'm on day 19 of my billing cycle and have already used 6GB, WTF!!! I didn't see that coming. What are you guys averaging a month? I know we have unlimted data but don't want to draw any attention to myself.
Running BAMF 1.7 Stripped (not that it matters).
I'm on a revolution, got it on day 1. In the 11 days I had it for that billing cycle that ended the 6th I used 12gb with generous 4g and upto now now I've used 14gb so far with the same usage, I know what you mean lol

Am at 1.8 GB on day 7 of billing cycle. Runrate for about 8 GB in 30 days. With LTE being faster than most people's WIFI, I don't think you are alone...
6gb isn't too much actually compared to others. No worry Verizon isn't really into throttling everyones service contrary to the belief of some Verizon really is interested in keeping their costumers happy.
I hit 5gb before the billing rolled over. Iy happens when you download 10 Roms a month and stream music and video.
Cool. Glad to I'm not alone, when average over 20mb dl its easy to rip through data. LTE is the truth!

Are there any ways to work around the data cap/throttle?

Just wondering if anyone can help me out with any tweaks to beat this damn 60kbps throttle from tmobile. I have tried the patch that was created for the froyo roms but it didn't work for me. There is no way around the cap. It is done of T-Mobiles servers and linked to your SIM card. Many people have tried to get around it without any luck.

I can dig what you're saying but I'd like to think of it as being resourceful rather than cheap. After all it is android, several exploits and loopholes exist for other devices already. Ill keep fishing and maybe I can figure it out. Maybe IP/MAC spoofing would work to avoid the asshats at T-Mobile.

thats what i did lol theres your throttle fix.
It's not a work-around to the T-Mobile cap exactly. But by fine tuning when and how your installed apps use data, can keep you under the cap. For example instead of streaming podcast with Mediafly I installed DogCatcher. I set the download permissions for the application to only update when connected to WiFi and plugged in.
That alone has cut my data usage in half. Fine tuning other settings in apps like email, facebook and twitter have also cut down my data usage. I went from always bumping the data cap to moving to the next lowest data rate plan.
Something to consider!

im not being cheap at all!! but is it possible i can up to the 10GB/ month? i just started a 2 yr contract 2 months ago and i get capped everymonth so far to 56k speeds...i pay 100 dollars a month and i think thats alot already! thats no fun when i dont get access to wifi everywhete like most of you.
If you change your phone number & get a new SIM chip it resets yer data usage. Setup google voice, get 5GIG plan - wait 2 weeks & spend $15 to have phone number changed and get another 5Gig. Two more weeks, billing cycle starts over, another 5GIG. Wait 2 more weeks and change phone number again - 5 more gig. Repeat every month. If you use google voice then everyone will still have your phone number. I think to get the 10gig plan it's 30 bucks so this saves you 15 bucks a month. Of course its also a huge pain in the ass for 15 bucks.
Lol that's actually pretty damn clever. A huge undertaking, but still clever. Well done.

I have three lines on a 5 gig"unlimited"plan. I stream pandora most of the day and so does my wife, My sister in law never gets off facebook, plus skype with my parents on weekends. We have never gone over 3 gigs and not much wifi use involved. I think you have to be tethering our doing some insane downloading to peak out a plan.
It's not really a plan you just per mb you use
Sent from my galaxy s 4g using XDA app
I think I'm gonna go with the 200 mb plan just so I can use the web more
Sent from my galaxy s 4g using XDA app
I'm on the 2gig 4G plan and thinking about dropping down, actually. Using the net and downloading aps/games/books I've never gone over 400megs in a month even tethering. Unless you're downloading movies or the like you don't really use a ton of bandwidth.
Twitter shouldn't really have much of an impact.
If you have wifi access most or all the time than a 200mb plan is surely enough but if your not but just checking twitter and maybe a couple of other things than your fine. I personally do alot of google maps, pandora, market, netflix, xda, games that require data, and more but im on a 5gig plan and i usually dont ever go over that even if i tether just to check my online mmorpg's hehe
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
the problem with the 200mb plan is it will no longer be unlimited like the other plans where your speed is throttled. tmobile is going to start charging overage fees on that plan. (i dont know the date that it starts though)
I'm thinking 200 mb should definitely be enough. When I goto add that plan I have to call customer service right??

Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Why would we get flagged? We have unlimited data. We chose not to buy a phone subsidized by Verizon so that we can keep unlimited data.
I am the IT guy for a church and school and I've upgraded 10 users to 4G phones through eBay and Craigslist. One of our staff members uses 40GB a month, I use about 15 GB. All of us go well over 2 GB, but what does it matter? We have unlimited data!
It would stand to reason that AT&T users with grandfathered unlimited plans are more abundant than us since they can still upgrade through AT&T and keep unlimited data.
I don't see why anyone would get flagged. The number of unlimited data VZW users will only decrease over time. Verizon makes more money than anyone. They add towers practically every week.
I say, sit back, and soak up the data!

im with you... I've tried everything imaginable... at least when verizon had unlimited, it was truly unlimited. I'll never forget a couple years ago when 3G/LTE went down in the Savanahh, GA area when I was stationed at Fort Stewart, I called Verizon and said "Im not getting data, do you throttle services?" Rep said "We shouldn't unless you're in the top 5% of subscribers, let me check your account"... clickety click click click of the keyboard "...oh my. I have to say, that is the highest useage I've ever personally seen. You're at 33 GB of LTE used.". I was only 12 days into my billing period at the time
There is a company called telcel America I used them for 4 months they had unlimited service for 45 a month no throttling whatsoever to the best of my knowledge they ran on on tmobiles network I used 5 gig a month 10 MBS down 2 up 2 weeks ago they stopped but they still have the $60 plan that you get unlimited talking to mexico I think sorry do the badly written post in a rush will update later

That's what I like about the $30 Monthly4G plan, I haven't hit the 5gb soft cap yet. And vonage mobile works great for extra free minutes.
I used to have the T-Mobile Unlimited 3G plan when I had a BlackBerry, and I would regularly break 20-30GB data on it when I was still going to school and still be able to maintain 3G speeds.
When I upgraded to the Blaze I was forced to switch to their new "Unlimited" plan, which seems to choke the speeds down around 5-6GB. Although this month I'm already around 7GB and I still pull in decent H+ speeds between 8 and 12Mbps, so maybe they only restrict the speeds during peak hours or something.
I have been doing research(ugh. feels like school lol) and I stumbled upon this. Since I've been using the UVMC Radio from the Hercules I think this should work. Note. It says to do these methods before getting throttled. I don't know if it works because I am getting throttled already..
