Hi,
Any tool to unlock this phone or I have to pay to my phone company ?
Thanks
Your cell phone provider usually gives you the unlock code for free, or you can look on eBay they charge you but it's faster then waiting a week.

All they ask for is the imei number. You don't even have to purchase the phone from them, I got mine on ebay and they still gave me an unlock code.
If you don't want to go through T-Mobile or eBay send me a minimum of a $2.00 donation and then PM me your IMEI number. I will send you the unlock code for your phone via PM.

lol..jboxer is a good guy IMO, don't know him personally but ever since I found out about XDA when I got my g2x trying to google for fixes I've seen many threads of him helping out people and I followed a guide by him in order to initially get my phone flashed and rooted
Jboxer is a trust source. Don't worry kiddo.
jboxer has been around a long while. He has produced and posted several ROMs that is still being used today. He sold his G2x and moved on to another phone to Dev for.
+1 for boxer.
@boxer- any other phones you can unlock?
Sent from a phone... do you really need to know more?
I would vouch for jboxer nothing but help from him.
I too am curious tho jboxer you unlock any phone?
Pin it to Win it.

What do I look for? Its rooted already the guy said he's had it like 40 days and only reason for getting rid of it is because it don't support his work email? Anything I should know to look for? Or if its stolen how do I find out?

You could always call into att customer service and see if the imei has been reported stolen before you buy it. I'm sure he wouldn't mind if you did that before giving him the cash. I've had people ask me if they could call in to make sure it was legit before they bought off me. Also, make sure its not water damaged in any way.

Yeah I had just email him and asked for that. Was getting back on here to say I asked for the imei number lol beat me too it. Is there only the two spots on the inspire for water damage? Under battery door and under sim cover piece?
IMEI checked out. So probably picking it up tomorrow if everything else checks out

Will do. Yeah, once I figure it all out.
So i bought myself a brand spanking new tablet from B&H in New York. I was looking for a tablet that has 4g and that i would be able to unlock and use on other providers around the world (canada mainly).
Anyways, turns out this tablet is not unlockable according to both ASUS and AT&T customer service reps. They said there is an exclusive agreement between them that makes it impossible to request an unlock code.
I was just wondering if other have had this problem, or whether others have been able to get this tablet unlocked, and if yes, how.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. This tablet has dug a deep hole in my pocket and i would really like to get my moneys worth
Thanks in advance.

I have read a thread in the past where two users contacted AT&T and were given the code to unlock. Sorry but I can't find the thread at the moment. The unlock code was not supplied in the post.
Maybe another AT&T contact requesting help and no reference to your previous info from AT&T or Asus. Just a poor soul lost and needing help.
Good Luck!

Yeah I saw a few posts about people suggesting to call up AT&T, however I never saw anyone confirm they were able to get it unlocked.
So far every customer service rep I've spoken to said its impossible to unlock through them because of some sort of agreement.
Just wondering if anyone has had any luck any other way.

I'm sorry but I haven't seen much posted.
I know for the US there is a new law that just went into effect that may cause problems in this area.
I posted a link in general but it was blocked due the fact one person had no interest in TF300TG or TF300TL.
Here is the link to that post.
And the link to the location I found the information.

But I think its different for tablets.
Weird thing is, I havent been able to come across any 3rd parties who unlock them either. Might just give up and get the wifi only one. Not worth the extra $100 if im gonna be locked to AT&T for life.
But if anyone comes up with a way to unlock it, it would still be greatly appreciated

I don't believe they will. They lock tabs and phones because they want you to use their services and pay them. Tell a guy who wants to sell it to you to unlock it first and then sell to you. This way you won't buy not unlockable tab.
So I bricked My Verizon S3 recently and now stuck with a dead S3 so I decide to do research and find what to do. (International Rom)
So I learned about JTAG and purchased a JTAG service on Ebay for $29.95
(Sent it out, received conformation on receiving the item, day later recive email that
"Hi,
I was able successfully flash the bootchain and repair the bootloader, but the phone does not boot to download mode. The phone may have hardware defect preventing it booting. I will ship the phone back to you and process a refund. you will receive your return tracking number via Ebay shipping. Sorry your phone could not be fixed."
So got it back and sent it to Samsung and got BER (Beyond Economical Repair)
Got it today
What should I do?
Should I send it to mobiletechvideos even though It's already been JTAGED and also the fact that there refund policy is very iffy since I'm spending about $90 for service and if there unable to fix it I get $60 back
Sorry for the long post but really need help on what to do Please and thank you
Oh man sorry to hear that. If it was me id take the chance on losing $30 and send it in, only because id want a 2nd opinion. worse case you part it out on ebay.

Not sure what more you're expecting anyone to suggest besides sending it into Mobile Tech. I guess you could email them and ask for their input on what the previous failed JTAG attempt stated. Wouldn't hurt I suppose. Mobile Tech Videos is usually the service I see folks send their GSIII into.

If it doesn't boot at all you can always take it to the Verizon store you bought it at and tell them that it's broken and wont turn on anymore. I'm not sure how long their warranty is good for.
If I buy an unlocked Nexus 5 from someone on craigslist. (The person bought it directly from google. Im gonna use this phone on Tmobile.) Is there anyway he can later report it lost or stolen and I get stuck with a blacklisted imei phone that i cannot use?
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Absolutely is. It happens all the time.
Edit, if you go thru with the purchase I'd meet at the t-mobile store and have them transfer the emei to you and your account. If the seller is not willing to do that then you'll know what his or her intentions are.
Take a photo of him handing you the phone.

I strongly suggest that next time, just buy it off the carrier or an official store like BestBuy. You may not be scammed now but you never know what will happen the next time.
Also Nexus 5 is already unlocked...
I bought my N5 off someone from Craigslist without any issues, I have also bought many phones off Craigslist. Just meet at a cell store of your choice and before you purchase make sure it can be activated on your account.

I believe even if u meet at a store to check if it can be activate it without any issues, they can report it lost at a later time and get it blacklisted anyways.

What you can do with it is file a claim for fraud with local authorities. With email traffic, and a picture of the person's government issued identification, it is a cut and dry case. Just the fear of a case will keep most people honest to their deal.

If you immediately activate that phone on your account then that phone is now yours (pretty sure that is the case), I do not think anything after that point can affect your phone. This has been my experience on Sprint, I am not sure on other carriers.

No. This is why I suggested a picture of him handing the phone over. That is more security. A picture of the licence plate proves nothing except identity (if that) and certainly does not prove the op didn't steal the phone

Hmm..maybe a little bit of misunderstanding due to the geographical differences. When you say license in the USA, you are talking about a drivers license. He took a picture of his identification with his name and address on it. Having a name, address, email traffic discussing the transaction, and the phone in question would be more than enough evidence to charge someone with fraud.
Ok, then what? Dont be naive. If Sprint or Tmobile does not believe you that you bought that phone, you gonna hire a lawyer and pay thousands of dollars to prove that you have bought it? You really are in mercy of the phone representative you get on the phone. I've bought tons of phones on Craigslist and resold them on Ebay. If Craigslist seller wants to screw you, nothing will help you out, because its a cash transaction.. Even if you have clear evidence on your hands police wont do ****, simply because its not worth wasting their resources for one phone.
But yes, if he let you make the picture of his license, then most likely he wont try to report it lost/stolen. But then again, if he got it from Tmobile for $50 and did not pay the bill, Tmobile will block the phone, like Sprint and Verizon always have done and you still can be screwed even if the phone is not stolen.
So I bought a moto g 16gb unlocked on ebay. It was case open, but practically unused, and it was £20 cheaper so I bought it. There was an issue with the SIM, it wouldn't even detect it so I thought the pins were broken. Took it in for repair, turns out the IMEI is blacklisted and phone most likely stolen, so my question is, is it possible to change the IMEI and still make it work? Or get the IMEI unlocked? Is there any workaround for this or am I permanently screwed with this phone?
You are screw imei. Tampering is highly illegal, except this was done over ebay which means PayPal was in play bring it up with them. You may get your cash back also check the disscription make sure it wasn't buried in their

Okay, well I'm about done with drama, I know this guy is a scammer, I had some arguments and he's a total scammer and I can't be bothered to mess with paypal legal team and whatnot. I was just wondering if there's an alternative way to get it fixed, guess not though. I might just give it to a relative as an ipod touch.

You'd be pretty pissed off if someone stole your Moto G, fixed the IMEI blacklist then was able to sell it... unless you stole it joking
Seriously though bring it up with Paypal.
Re-read the Ebay listing and make sure it is NOT listed ANYWHERE in the description about being blacklisted.
Then, as everyone is suggesting, at least bring it to the attention of PayPal and eBay.
A blacklisted phone by IMEI can't be recovered ever again, because [Corrections allowed] when somebody calls to it's carrier to block their stolen phone by IMEI, they block/blacklist it and that wouldn't be suposed to turn on, or at least that's what i've read weeks ago. That blacklist would make that not even another countries carrier SIM cards work on that phone. :/
Technically that Moto G is now an iPod Touch. :/
I don't know 'that' well those online shopping sites (ebay, mercadolibre, amazon, etc.) but you could be able to report or, (corrections) take legal actions against the user that sold you that.
Just saying.

if you can't return it to the seller, or get a refund from PayPal/eBay, you better try to resell it to somewhere abroad

That's pretty low man.
Unless in the description he states in huge writing right at the top "BLACKLISTED DEVICE", which is what the first guy should have done.

no. his device is blacklisted only in his country. users abroad can use it
Did not know that...
So if I were to purchase a device online that has been blacklisted in, say, Europe, I could use it here in North America?
I just thought the IMEI be blocked everywhere.
Blacklisting is available only in the UK afaik, besides you should get a refund from eBay/PP/Seller, it's quite easy.
Otherwise it can be used in any other country w/o a problem.
Also there is a way to unblock it if you got the original box. Probably the idiot sold it and then reported it stolen.
Some time ago I was looking for American iPhones but some were black listed and I've been told that you can't use them here in Europe

Paypal protection is there for this sort of thing and is pretty easy to make a claim, why someone can't be bothered is a mystery indeed, unless there's more to this than has been told.
EBay Buyer Protection is a wondrous thing. Also for phones just go to swappa.com.

there is a way but you wont find it here because there are some ppl that want to unblacklist their hard days work of stealing phones. I feel what you are going through and you need to serch google as there are plenty of sites offering the service.... I had one done over the web on a telus note 2 and worked flawlessly. and yes I got scammed too... on ebay.
