Screen Resolution - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

So I'm considering getting the Skyrocket and I currently have an Atrix but I'm worried about the screen resolution on the Skyrocket since it's 800X480. Will this make a big difference coming from Atrix (540X960)? I also heard about screen burn in on the Skyrocket, how true is this?

Everything is pretty big, i used to hate it but i got used to the resolution and now its fine. you can always change it too. 180-200 looks really nice.
And i don't notice any burn in, but when my whole screen turns black i notice faint marks... they aren't really a problem and it has never affected me when the screen is showing something.

I hate it when everything is big and takes up half the screen. I don't have this problem with the Atrix and this is the only thing that's preventing me from getting the Skyrocket.

190-210 that's what I use with skyics

Knowing that I can change the dpi is very good but what about screen burn in? This seems to happen over a few months from what I have read. How many pepper have this problem?

I haven't seen one mention of it around here

If you Google "sgs2 screen burn in" or "super amoled plus burn in" you will that a lot of people have this problem. The only reason why I'm asking is because one of my friends said they degrade very quickly over short period of time.

I hate the atrix, it's way too small and it overheats like crazy and has a crappy camera. Does the skyrocket overheat at stock speed?

Oh, well if you hate the atrix, nevermind. No the rocket does not overheat. Most of the time I run it underclocked, though. But when I run games and stuff I am usually OC to over 1700mhz. I run more for battery life than intensive games most of the time. It gets warm if you're running the charger and playing games or running gps.

I guess I should mention the "screen lines" issue. If you turn the brightness way down some have vertical lines. Some have it worse than others. Mine is very faint.
There's not much I dislike about it. I am patiently waiting for A final build of AOKP, CM9. We have very good dev support, not as much as the international gs2, but I am pleased with our forum.
Some can't seem to get very good battery life, but I run 24 hours+ no problem with over 5 hours screen on time. This all comes down to your ability to tweak custom kernels and how you let apps run.
GPS is good, bluetooth could be better but I don't use it, speaker phone is good, battery is great for me, music playback apparently doesn't cut for "audiophiles" but I'm perfectly happy with it. Thats all I got for now

I must not be thinking of the same "screen burn in" I've had my skyrocket since release and its always had the artifacts when the screen is totally black. There not that noticeable. I haven't noticed any burn in though.

190 didn't work too well, couldn't see half my apps. 200 is awesome though, exactly what I wanted the phone to look like. The huge icons really bothered me. However, Play Store, gmail, both load just fine without any issues. Do I even need to do any market fix?

[Q] How's that HTC Inspire?

I have the Atrix 4G and am having too many issues with it. So I was thinking of transferring over to the Inspire.
Few questions:
-Hows the battery?
-Are the data speeds any better than the Atrix?
-Does the UI and the OS run smoothly?
UI is solid and runs well. Battery is good if you treat it nicely as far as wifi, data and brightness. Can't tell you anything about data speeds vs. Atrix. What kind of issues are you having with the Atrix?

HSPA+ wont be deployed til next month.
Just picked mine up today. LOVE it so far. Noticed that it seems to charge much faster than my friend's Incredible and doesn't seem to drain as quickly. This phone is infinitely better than the Captivate I returned. The only thing I miss at all is Swype. Gonna install that later today.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
there are people installing swype and they are saying it works well. I personally have never got to the point where I liked it. It just made me have to think too much when trying to compose anything but to each thier own...
I've had the Inspire for almost a week now.
Hows the battery?
- The battery isn't as bad as I thought. You still have to babysit it, though. Turning the desplay down and staying on top of Bluetooth and Wifi usage will help. I can get through the day with only 1 charge. 1 Push email, 2 other emails @ 30 min. syncs, half dozen calls, moderate texting, and moderate web browsing.
Are the data speeds any better than the Atrix?
- Don't have the Atrix to test. There are reviews on the web that have tried and tested both. It'd be best if you try to find those to make a conclusion. Keep in mind though, data speeds are only as could as the carrier. In this case, we're dealing with the Death Star. Read into that what you may.
Does the UI and the OS run smoothly?
- The US and OS run as smooth as warm butter over toast. Many reviews online also report the same. I see no lags. The 2nd generation Snapdragon processor definitely helps. You won't be disappointed in OS speed.
As for switching between the Atrix, you may need to look into battery life depending on how you use your phone. As far as data speeds, do a little research as I don't know the answer. You won't be disappointed with the Inspire though. I LOVE the phone!
I exchanged my inspire and got the atrix; big mistake. I had to go back to radio shack to get my inspire back. The atrix is not for me. I like HTC and sense.

I've never used the Atrix, but the Inspire is amazing. I took my phone off the charger this morning at ten and still have 48% left. This is with moderate texting, web browsing, market, and just messing around with the operating system, so the small battery doesnt affect me that much.
I'd go with it.

The Inspire "only" has a 1230 mAh battery, but it's also a single-core, extremely efficient CPU. Talk time is rated about the same for both phones, but the standby on the Atrix is much, much lower (372 vs 250 hours, according to gsmarena). What does that mean? I suspect it means the Inspire is much kinder to it's battery.
Having said that, I rebooted my (mostly) stock phone today, and noticed the battery life was much, much worse. Loading Advanced Task Killer** I saw there were about 30 running apps, with about 111mb free. Killed the non-essentials, and things seem better now.
** I don't advocate task killers, and I never use them in automatic mode-- they are useful occasionally, though.

Ok, I was asking because its the same with me. I really prefer a keyboard but I dont really think I want the LG Quantum (I have an upgrade coming up and I think im gonna go with the Inspire) so the inspire is the phone I'm considering, but I was never big on touch screen keyboards because of response and ease of use. Plus, all of my recent phones have been windows phones, but I wanna try an Android powered phone. As long as I can sync my contacts from Outlook and create word docs im fine.
i have the inspire and love it

I really enjoy the Inspire. My battery life was ok until I loaded CM7 on it. Once I did that, my battery life improved astronomically. I'm torn between my iPhone 4 and Inspire. I wish there was a way to cross them because there are aspects I truly love about both.
Task killers are gay, they don't anything helpful. Not with Android 2.1 and up... they're useless. Android operating system.knows what processes to keep and kill when needed... freeing up RAM on an Android OS is not necessarily a "good" thing. Just saying.

Desire Z or Nexus S??

Should I trade in my Desire Z for the Nexus S?
I'm mostly after browser speed and everyday performance
What happened to the nexus sense port? I had a galaxy S before and it was always slower to the original desire but with ginger on the NS it just might do the trick.
Are you guys satisfied with the NS especially coming from other android devices?
If browsing speed is your priority, I would suggest you wait a bit. Currently the stock browser is rather laggy.
Laggy even with overclock, custom roms (cyanogen, nscollab and infinity) ?
Does cyanogen have the auto text reflow function?
I use my Nexus S since 3 months. It's fabulous.
Choose the right ROM and Kernel! It will be smoothest!
Great experience during 2 days without any charge or FC.
GNS is a very nice device. Buy GNS and flash CM, then enjoy)
Nexus S all the way. Desire Z is old news. I'd rather choose Desire S
Personally it was a bad idea to ask for an advice in a nexus s forum . lol.
anyway, a fair answer for me would be, there is no big deal of a difference between the 2 phones. If you were to buy one of these, then i would have said nexus s but since you already possess the dz, then no need to make the change. speedwise they are the same. the difference maybe comes from the gpu but you said you are only for browsing experience. i think you should stick to the dz until you get something better.
you do have amazing devs back there... i am sure finding a good custom rom is not a problem.
Just 3 hours ago, SuperAOSP Rom created by SUPERTAMEL, has changed the whole browser system
No more lagging issue, just pure enjoyment of browsing
I guess, you come to Nexus S in the right time
Development on the Desire Z has pretty much stalled with the keyboard being the biggest limitation. Even the Desire has better roms for gingerbread. I've owned a SGS before and the browser was indeed a little slow so I should expect performance to be on par to that. The SGS wasn't that bad but I switched to the Z mainly because of the LED flash which is very important to me as a flashlight
What ever happened to the NS sense port? I was looking at some vids over at youtube and they looked really smooth with some minor issues and non working features but nevertheless usable! Was the 0.3 build the one that caused the problem with the IMEI? What exactly happened?
What's the difference in real life performance between SuperAOSP, INfinity and Cyan?
Netarchy is the best kernal option available right? In layman's terms, what does proton voltage do and how do I know what settings to use?
Thanks for helping a NS noobie

Well, sadly that Samsung has put the most important file "EFS" at a very insecure place. And, we never realise that until we find that Nexus Sense has "wiped" the whole EFS data too, making all the IMEI number being the same

Infinity is created by Jonathan Griggs where he is very keen in ANdroid and added lots of different features.
Cyan 7 is the nightly build where different bugs and fixes are keep updated and fixed.
Kang's Cyan is the lighter and better version of Cyan 7.
Muiu is the Iphone version of Android (Use this rom if you like iOS interface)

Netarchy or Trinity. Both are equally good.
Both has OC and UV kernel.
Proton voltage let you customize the voltage you wanna set for each frequency and it's only usable for Netarchy kernel.

How do I know the best settings for photon? Or can I just use default?
Finally got my phone and this thing is wicked fast! I've never experienced a phone out of the box this good! Screen is yellowish as usual though Speakerphone volume is excellent as well!
Browser seems to be very good, not super fluid but good enough. Not as stuttery as my old SGS. Mighty tempted not to flash a custom rom because it's already very good!
Cm7 is recommended, it will change the experience totally and it has text reflow after zoom. I personally use the nightlies a lot but it's up to you, they might be laggy sometimes.

Im pretty satisfied with this phone at the moment, with my headphones on this thing can produce way better audio than any HTC phone I have tried. Bass is booming and vocals are rich.
My only quip is the battery which never reaches 100 percent like my old SGS. A calibration should do the trick..I hope.

Juice Defender feedback vote needed

To all G2x community,
I am having problems with juice defender, to be more specific whenever I hang up from a phone call there is a delay in the hang up process, usually takes 5 to 10 seconds after I press end call. The issue is posted on the Juice Defender feedback forum, and I just wanted to call on you guys to pump up the vote tally for this issue. So if you can, just click on the link and give it the max 3 votes I'd appreciate it.

Edit: Whoops.
I get the same problem, I also have a problem with WiFi calling constantly polling my phone as traffic even with WiFi disabled with the phone set as WiFi Calling on Enable/Screen Off.
I always wondered why there was a delay on hangup... Never knew it was a JD thing though. Hope they address it quickly
I don't use these types of apps, but a while back I noticed a new similar app in the market. I'm curious as to how it compares to Juice Defender, has anyone tried it? It's called Go Power Master (by the same devs who made GoSMS and Go Keyboard etc.)

Looks like the same idea... I may give it a shot as I use go launcher already and like their products (some of them)
Edit: That app is nowhere close to as customizable as juice defender and its ui is really ugly hahaa defiantly sticking with jd
Pin it to Win it.
Are you using a specific rom or just stock? I have ran into this issue with or without jd on certain roms (can't recall exactly such ones atm) but it may be a conflict also. I run jd on tsugi right now and use the 2g/3g since it still doesn't work radio wise with that version. But I have jd ultimate for the wifi capabilities, and have on all other roms for the past year and a half.
I have used certain roms along with certain kertain kernals without jd and had that issue though. I understand when its disabled things goto normal, so I guess are you running froyo, gb, 2.3.7 or ics?

JD is pointless, all it does is turn off data when the screen turns off and on when the screen is on. This can be done by the touch of a button easy.

Thing is i WANT the data to stay on even during screen off, its not like i have a lot of traffic going on 24/7 anyways, its gonna update stuff like facebook, messenger, email twitter etc only, which uses very little traffic anyways.
I tried to set it updating everything whenever i turn screen on and all it did was cause some minor lag whenever i unlock screen.....not a very good idea to me lol
And to the OP, juice defender actually made my battery WORSE.......it kept trying to close some background stuff for me and ended up using a lot more power than it should be. All you need to do is flash a better rom/kernel, underclock (and undervolt if your hardware allows it, mine doesnt but its good enough so it is fine on stock voltage underclocked).
I did a test recenly, exactly 20 hours and my battery stayed at 97% with very little activity, which I consider as very nice. The next day I used my pone for about an hour on talking, roughly 30minutes on games, and probably an hour for web browsing, and i still have 59% left at the end of the day
Regular battery too, i did not buy a powerful battery replacement.
So yeah SCREW JUICE DEFENDER!!!!
If you wanted data to stay on all the time, JD is completely useless to you. Seriously.
Sent from my amazing G2x running EaglesBlood and Faux.
I've used JD Plus for well over a year. I'm really starting to think the app is hype. I see no major difference with it or with out it. Pointless.
If you read back some threads before on JD, you would find out that JD off the market (at least it still is) does not work on the G2X for some reason. You have to install a beta version of it that was linked on these forums a while back and use that.
The market version was not able to shut off data at all whereas the beta version does.
I was able to get about 27 hours before my battery depleted just on a new ROM and not having to UV/OC any settings. I still use it on my GB ROMs. Doesn't really work on the ICS ROMs.
I have had it for a long time, and noticed quite a bit of difference compared to without it. GB did change that until the beta. And with ics, it does work for me. I use it for the data shutoff + automated wifi enable/ disable. If I really need an email that I'm waiting for and can't miss that extra 5 min of duration that it takes, I turn it off. That's where I notice the major difference, especially with the newer kernels for ics builds. But obviously it doesn't seem to work as well for some people, or some people just don't like it. That's why theirs different versions of everything.

I'm giving this thing the bump!... I'm impressed with the votes, the vote total is in triple digits. We need some more votes to get this thing pushed through. It's the only thing that bugs me about JD right now, and I'm sure there are alot of people in the same boat.

Don't use it, it doesn't help.
For me the battery life on my settings was so good it decreased it due to my phone being woken up every 30 minutes.
This is my battery life on stock battery without JD

With JD I probably would've only gotten 18 hours.

I don't know if JD does drain battery a lot or not. But I always have trouble with it connecting to Mobile Data quickly. I unlock the screen, it shows the 4g icon plus the four white bars, but it's usually connected only when the bars turn blue. And it takes forever for the bars to turn blue, like a 10 second delay, any way to fix it?

Have you tried going back to stock with Odin?
Not sure if your issue is the same as mine, but after I went back to stock it seems to have corrected the issue. It still seems to warm up a little when I'm using it a lot (playing a game, looking at the LOL Droid app, but not, oddly, playing a video) but the battery issue seems to have been solved.
I know that using the phone is going to make the processor run faster, and that faster processor speeds can definitely contribute to heat build up. Do you have a case? If so, take it off. If not, maybe give the phone a break every now and then? I don't know.

I had a over heating issue a while back... Turned out to be a run away wake lock. Media scanner. I had to Odin back to stock and rebuild back to the custom rom to totally get rid of it.

You never know...it could be the weather around here
I would install Better Battery Stats (if you don't already have it installed) and monitor it for wakelocks to see if something is preventing the phone from deep sleeping.

Agreed az is known for pure heat not humidity thank god lol but I will check my wake locks again again and try to find what's cause media scanner only runns once at boot otherwise doesn't need to run. But I think I might switch back to stock and see if it does it on rot stock
thanks guys

Overall speed

Would you say that the Google Pixel 2 XL is "fast" in day-to-day use? A higher rating indicates that you think the Google Pixel 2 XL exhibits fantastic performance. Like, is it as fast as your tears when you watch The Titanic?
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Blazing fast phone. Scrolling is buttery smooth, with none of the lag from the bad old Samsung Touchwiz days. I am coming from Nexus 6P, which was no slouch, but this one is super fast.
fastest, smoothest phone
We have two Pixel 2's and also my Pixel 2 XL -- these are spectacularly fast and smooth -- lag free.
Faster than a speeding bullet ? or greased lightening
Super fast! Love it!
Fastest android phone to date i love it, come from the Nexus 6P and One plus 3T which i still own but the pixel xl 2 is just superior.

Super smooth and fast.. esp with animations set to .5s in developer options!!
Has anyone else noticed a sudden perfomance boost as of today? Not only does my 2XL feel much more snappy, also battery life seems to have increased a lot! The phone has never been a slouch to begin with, I don't know why but the little frame drops I have felt since the beginning of owning the phone are completely eliminated . It's like having a new phone I have to say and it feels so relieving haha. I kind of can rule out an app causing the phone to drop frames since I factory resetted it so many times by now and running with basically no apps. I have no idea which update caused to boost my Pixel but I'm so happy haha
Edit: Even my Nexus 6P feels much snappier, lol
Hi, it's not just you I have the same Feeling today and surprise I go to development options and I don't know how but I found animations speed set to 0.5x I certainly did not change anything myself.

Same, it feels like it's been getting better overall since the November update. Or at least more consistent if nothing else. I'm definitely happy about it!

I've hope Google will do something with RAM management with next update.

I see people bring that up a lot, I haven't noticed much of problem. But I also don't heavily multi-task. Tbh I'm also not sure I know exactly what people are experiencing...

The main point is that when I use the camera application, most of my background applications are stopped. Spotify stops playing music, accubattery resets statistics and most applications when recalling them from the last open list loads as if they were first opened.
I have app refreshes but I've never had something in the background like Google Play Music or YouTube close out on me. Although, I literally never take pictures while having either in the background and I do know the camera uses a lot of RAM especially when rendering somthing like a portrait photo.

Wow that's actually pretty terrible, I don't think I've ever experienced it that bad. But I did just test what you said with the camera and it's definitely clearing some ram from my other apps but they are reloading back to where I left off which is probably why I've never noticed it, but music didn't stop for me.

I bet it does have mostly to do with all the features the app has, it probably needs all the ram it can get now.

Just messing with the December update tonight and seem like it's handling RAM management a lot better.

I agree, I was pretty surprised when I seen they finally tried to sort it out. Tho it took long enough... We will see how it feels in the long term.

Yeah only took people complaining about it on the Pixel 3 and 3 XL for them to want to deal with it. [emoji2359]
