To all G2x community,
I am having problems with juice defender, to be more specific whenever I hang up from a phone call there is a delay in the hang up process, usually takes 5 to 10 seconds after I press end call. The issue is posted on the Juice Defender feedback forum, and I just wanted to call on you guys to pump up the vote tally for this issue. So if you can, just click on the link and give it the max 3 votes I'd appreciate it.
http://feedback.latedroid.com/forum...ns/2257272-no-data-connection-while-on-phone-
Edit: Whoops.
I get the same problem, I also have a problem with WiFi calling constantly polling my phone as traffic even with WiFi disabled with the phone set as WiFi Calling on Enable/Screen Off.
I always wondered why there was a delay on hangup... Never knew it was a JD thing though. Hope they address it quickly
I don't use these types of apps, but a while back I noticed a new similar app in the market. I'm curious as to how it compares to Juice Defender, has anyone tried it? It's called Go Power Master (by the same devs who made GoSMS and Go Keyboard etc.)
Sorry if this is a thread hijack

Looks like the same idea... I may give it a shot as I use go launcher already and like their products (some of them)
Edit: That app is nowhere close to as customizable as juice defender and its ui is really ugly hahaa defiantly sticking with jd
Pin it to Win it.
Are you using a specific rom or just stock? I have ran into this issue with or without jd on certain roms (can't recall exactly such ones atm) but it may be a conflict also. I run jd on tsugi right now and use the 2g/3g since it still doesn't work radio wise with that version. But I have jd ultimate for the wifi capabilities, and have on all other roms for the past year and a half.
I have used certain roms along with certain kertain kernals without jd and had that issue though. I understand when its disabled things goto normal, so I guess are you running froyo, gb, 2.3.7 or ics?

I'm running Weapon G2x 3.0_R1 ROM with the stock kernel and using Juice Defender Plus.
I'm running stock firmware non-rooted with JD plus and getting delayed hangup.
JD is pointless, all it does is turn off data when the screen turns off and on when the screen is on. This can be done by the touch of a button easy.

Thing is i WANT the data to stay on even during screen off, its not like i have a lot of traffic going on 24/7 anyways, its gonna update stuff like facebook, messenger, email twitter etc only, which uses very little traffic anyways.
I tried to set it updating everything whenever i turn screen on and all it did was cause some minor lag whenever i unlock screen.....not a very good idea to me lol
And to the OP, juice defender actually made my battery WORSE.......it kept trying to close some background stuff for me and ended up using a lot more power than it should be. All you need to do is flash a better rom/kernel, underclock (and undervolt if your hardware allows it, mine doesnt but its good enough so it is fine on stock voltage underclocked).
I did a test recenly, exactly 20 hours and my battery stayed at 97% with very little activity, which I consider as very nice. The next day I used my pone for about an hour on talking, roughly 30minutes on games, and probably an hour for web browsing, and i still have 59% left at the end of the day
Regular battery too, i did not buy a powerful battery replacement.
So yeah SCREW JUICE DEFENDER!!!!
If you wanted data to stay on all the time, JD is completely useless to you. Seriously.

I've used JD Plus for well over a year. I'm really starting to think the app is hype. I see no major difference with it or with out it. Pointless.
If you read back some threads before on JD, you would find out that JD off the market (at least it still is) does not work on the G2X for some reason. You have to install a beta version of it that was linked on these forums a while back and use that.
The market version was not able to shut off data at all whereas the beta version does.
I was able to get about 27 hours before my battery depleted just on a new ROM and not having to UV/OC any settings. I still use it on my GB ROMs. Doesn't really work on the ICS ROMs.
I have had it for a long time, and noticed quite a bit of difference compared to without it. GB did change that until the beta. And with ics, it does work for me. I use it for the data shutoff + automated wifi enable/ disable. If I really need an email that I'm waiting for and can't miss that extra 5 min of duration that it takes, I turn it off. That's where I notice the major difference, especially with the newer kernels for ics builds. But obviously it doesn't seem to work as well for some people, or some people just don't like it. That's why theirs different versions of everything.

I'm giving this thing the bump!... I'm impressed with the votes, the vote total is in triple digits. We need some more votes to get this thing pushed through. It's the only thing that bugs me about JD right now, and I'm sure there are alot of people in the same boat.
http://feedback.latedroid.com/forum...ns/2257272-no-data-connection-while-on-phone-
Don't use it, it doesn't help.
For me the battery life on my settings was so good it decreased it due to my phone being woken up every 30 minutes.
This is my battery life on stock battery without JD
http://db.tt/5BIfrIAd
With JD I probably would've only gotten 18 hours.

I don't know if JD does drain battery a lot or not. But I always have trouble with it connecting to Mobile Data quickly. I unlock the screen, it shows the 4g icon plus the four white bars, but it's usually connected only when the bars turn blue. And it takes forever for the bars to turn blue, like a 10 second delay, any way to fix it?

So, with all this talk of over clocked/undervolt kernals, smartass gov, setcpu, and juicedefender, I was wondering what the definitive way to optimize battery is (without doing a bump charge).
I dont need any crazy quadrant scores or anything. I just need a phone that can play the occasional game here and there, surf the web, and text message; all while being lag free.
I have done all the "normal" battery savings like turning off 4g (live in 3g only area anyways), backlight lowered, no live wallpaper, ect. My question is what is the "best" method for squeezing out the most juice?
I know there are MANY opinions as to what the best is, but I thought I would poll the masses here and get their 2 cents on the subject.
Well, I pay attention to my current widget. There's certain areas where battery drain is a problem with mobile data turned on. I turn off mobile data when I'm in those areas. Being mindful of that has been the #1 battery saver for me. In fact, I even run with automatic brightness instead of a very low brightness setting and I get better battery life now than before.
I seem to get better battery on lower, mainly because when I do auto, it goes full blast most of the time, and likes to switch about 20 times from high to low while im texting.
My main question here is out of the more detailed methods (new kernal, setcpu, ect.) works best. I know kernals seem to give better performance and battery to some, but I read some of the kernal builds have some hiccups still.
Just wondering what you guys have found is best and most stable of the "detailed" methods.

Of course, I do as well. I was just saying that turning off mobile data in the areas that tend to cause my phone to draw 700+mA saves a significant more amount of power than turning the screen to low.
I'm currently planning to try out setting Tasker to automatically turn off mobile data when connected to problematic towers.

Well, I'm running BAMF 1.3 with the smartass governor. It saves quite a bit of power and has very little setup (you don't have to set up profiles with setcpu).
The newest Tasker adds CPU frequency control support... it doesn't currently work on the ROM I'm running ... but I'd imagine when we get CM7, it'll work. Presumably you could use that to always scale down the CPU until you open up specific apps that benefit from additional clockspeed. It could save a bit of power.

Yours sounds ideal for some areas I go to. Please remember to share the Tasker profile you come up with for that functionality.

Hello guys, Im coming over from the eris/custom rom to TB this past week. I was wondering what kind of life you are experiencing with the custom roms here like BAMF. I haven't rooted it yet but am planning to since the current battery life is not acceptable in my daily life. I love the phone but need to figure out if I can keep it or not by helping my battery life. I have 4g disabled since it is not even avail in my area yet but still only getting 6-7 hrs. Thanks for any help, opinions, or redirects.
hehe...
This is great. Reminds me of hypermiling with my car/hybrid to get the most gas out of it. Well...it's about that time again with fuel costs going up.
So what is the equivalent term of hypermiling for handhelds/phones? Hyper-???

6-7 hours? Jeez. I have a fairly stock rom (perfect storm, which is more or less just bloat free) with 4G off, backlight to around 35%, only one gps running - the google one for the HTC weather, I use wifi when at home, I have nothing that pushes except my main gmail and the htc weather, do texting all day, and about an hour of internet a day. With this setup after 16 hours I have always had over 50% battery.
How many things do you have pushing data? Facebook or twitter? And if so what is the interval? Also, how much on the net are you, and how often do you game?

Never game, 2 gmail accounts, fb few times a day, no twitter, net 2-3 times a day. This is stock sense on the phone though. Thats why I was looking into the dif roms to see what battery life was like with dif kernel on it. I will prob root and toss a rom on there to see if it gets me better life (which im sure it will), but considering waiting until the 16th (rumor out that fairly big update coming and want to see if that may help at all).

This really is the best way to save battery at the moment.
I made my battery last the whole day after I installed Automatic Task Killer from the market. It kills selected processes as long as the screen is off. I get home after 9 hours at work and I still have ~40% battery left. Before I installed Automatic Task Killer my TB was dead after 9 hours.
There is so much random bloatware on the TB from vzw that it eats the battery fast. I just need to root I had a Eris on a custom ROM before the TB and I could go 2 days easy without a charge.
This seems to be a fix for the time being. Too bad there is no way for developers to make a one click root like on the Eris. I will have to bite the bullet and do it the old fashioned way.

I found this but I can't find this setting on MUMI.
If you want to turn off the LED notifications, tap the search button and then the menu button and hit settings. Scroll down and enable search of the system settings. Hit back and then search either LED or notification and the LED notification settings should show up in the results. You can turn off the LED notifications there.

Do yourself a favor and ditch jd.
I've heard mixed things about JD. Some people like it, others say it doesn't work.
On GB, I was getting 2.0-2.2x.
On ICS, I only use it for the schedules right now, I may test it out to see if it helps or not.

Only if you set it to make it dumb. JD doesn't block of my functionality just sorts some stuff like turning off wifi if there's no network around and check for an open network every now and then. Claims to be around X2.02 on mhx superlite 5.

You can't be bothered to use the quick toggle and push a button to shut off wifi when you leave home or work? Apps like that just prevent a smartphone from being a smartphone. That's cool if you wanna use it, but shutting off radios and preventing data is sort of lame on a smartphone. There are other ways of saving power and still having a working smartphone.

I agree. I had it keep wifi enabled when connected all the time, turn data off during the work day and only check it every hour (I'm on a PC, I can get email instantly). I had it turn off data/wifi when I was playing a game. I had it turn wifi off when I left home and re-turn on wifi when I got home (location based). And I used the brightness feature (this was pretty poor...).
I still use it for schedule (I have it turn off sound and data/wifi at night) on ICS.

My data is always on regardless it just makes sure my phone wont waste power by searching for wifi when there is none, also if I get to a place with good wifi and I know its there I'll use the quick toggle.
And jd is also useful in case I forget the bluetooth on it will turn it off after 5 minutes.

These are things you can do without jd, except the forgetting bt thing. JD requires power to run, so consider that.
I've found that I get as good or better battery life by simply enabling System Power Saving then with JD. Your mileage may vary.
* edit *
JD showed about 1.7 on my device.
I'm running seanz GB Sky ICS and have always used JD. With or without JD, my battery blows. I wouldn't dare leave home without a charger. I've found that JD definitely helps, mostly for reasons previously mentioned in this thread. However, the JD ratios seem inflated and highly volatile. I never trust them. I know JD helps me a little bit but I never know exactly how much.
Based on feedback from seanz 4.0 rom, I doubt I'll need JD once I flash it. I just need some damn free time to sit down, get smart, do the downloads, and flash my way to freedom haha. Hopefully I'll make it happen tomorrow night.
Overall though, I am a fan of JD Pro.
***Edit***
Shame on me for not answering the op questions. Normally my ratio is somewhere between 1.7 and 2.0. I've noticed that if I run jd for 4-5 days then the ratio slowly goes down to 1.25 which is odd. Then, if I disable it for 18-24 hours, my jd ratio for the next few days is insane: 2.5 to 2.9.

Simple kernel tweaks can save far more juice, and doesn't consume power like JD does by running in the background.
The issue is there is still no kernel source for ics anyway.
I'm pleased with my battery so I got no reason to turn of JD and check how it's effecting it, I'm not that much of a heavy user.

That's because it's a leak with no source. I got off the ics bandwagon and went back to stability. If you're not a heavy user why do you need JD? I'm just trying to help you make your phone better, if you wanna use it, that's fine.
this weekend I should have similar phone pattern, I'll check it with or without and let you know. Tho I'll be home only so I guess it will only show how much jd is draining instead of helping but that's also something.
Also im using ICS due to the correct hebrew alignment which is really annoying in GB.

Already running at 1.18
I'm getting 2.26 with custom settings on Sky ICS 4.2D-10.
In my view, there are two important factors in JD's usefulness: (1) Like the app itself says, it is most effective when you're not using the phone. If you're a heavy user, you're not likely to see an improvement, because most of what it does relates to turning radios on/off. (2) Whether or not you're good at micromanaging settings. If you reliably remember to turn off BT, or to turn off syncing when you're asleep, etc. then it may not be of value. Depending on where you are on those two points, it may be great, it may be more of a drain than it saves.
With JD and with my phone largely sitting on the desk, I can get out past three days on a charge. JD is allowing sync to occur every 30 mins during the day and not at all at night. I'm honestly not sure how easily I can set my phone up to do roughly the same without JD (although I'm trying to work on that).
1.8 - 2.2 on ICS Stock Deodexed. I don't need an alert for email every second I get one, keeps me unfocused at work. When I unlock the screen I get them anyway, so JD is perfect for me. My battery goes 32 hours on moderate use.

OK we get your point... but some of us have limited data plans and I find it very frustrating when the phone goes off and self-initiates a 64mb transfer of what-I-don't-know - out of my 200mb plan. I don't need a phone that smart. ATT isn't good about providing any details what-so-ever about that data usage so am looking for other means to control power and radio usage and to actually get through the whole day without having to charge twice in the same day and without having to remember to help my smartphone to be smart.
If you're going to include statistics, PLEASE also try to include your SCREEN ON TIME, BRIGHTNESS, general use, wifi and lte would be good too.
I'm currently on CleanROM 3.0 and love it but thinking of switching to Lite version. worth it for battery savings? halp?
"BEST OF" Threads are not allowed on XDA. It sucks, I know. Because it'd be nice if there could be a place for some discussion... a "this rom is nice but that rom has better battery life" kind of thing
CleanROM is a good ROM, and Scott is an active developer here in the forums. Not sure how much better battery life you'll get from the lite version. I would imagine it'd be a lot because bloatware never helps battery life.

i'm confused, i'm not allowed to ask people for recommendations on what ROM has given them these supposed 5-hours screen-on times? I get 2-3 hours and my brightness is at 20% with wifi on on cleanrom 3.0 and im worried I have a defective battery. what's wrong with this question?
Unfortunately XDA Rules don't allow us to say what is the "best" in a specific area. You can ask for what ROM people are running and what screen on time they are getting so that you can determine it yourself.
Even though I'm all for following the rules I'm kinda confused why this rule was ever passed. In the real world there are always "best" of things. It seems this is just an ego protecting type of rule. However it would cause people to fight and say "No I have the best" and etc. People can't handle freedom!

I slightly want to kill you, mostly out of jealousy but also for not mentioning your brightness level, LTE on/unavailable, SYNC on/off, usage etc.
But this is enough to make me flash lite tonight after a total discharge. i'm at 44% with 1 hour 30 minutes screen on time. 10 hours 30 mins normal time at 2/10 brightness. (one notch above lowest setting)
is it possible i have a defective battery? or is Lite really that much different?
What's the procedure for switching from Standard to Lite? Backup all apps with titanium, flash dalvik and data cache, install via clockworkmod, then perform a battery calibration?

It is possible on CleanRom, I have so many other apps running at the moment that I get no where near that anymore. When you look at what he is running in his screenshots besides the screen he hasnt used much else (3% talk time for example). Now I switched between all three of the cleanRoms through the earlier development and did not notice a huge drop from DE to Lite. I went back to DE because I like it stripped of sense and their is still the debloating. I use FB and twitter so I wasnt going to stay on Lite for long.
I get roughly 8-9 hours a day on 25% brightness 3hrs of screentime but as I said I generally have a lot of other apps running that drain my battery that you may not run. (WiFi on most of the time and in an LTE area). My main drain comes from commuting to work in NYC when the service keeps dropping, which i read drains your battery quicker and it def appears this way. pansi (text messaging app) tends to use a fair amount of cpu power which helps drain my battery as does Defender II (a game).
Personally unless you are going to flash the lite version it wont make that big of a difference, it will depend more on what apps/screen brightness you are going to use.

Your correct,I don't set my screen brightness it's auto,I also don't use social apps like Facebook, etc. I do quite a bit of browsing and flashing. I've made some backups and flashed some mods and some of the apps I use don't even show up, why they don't I have no clue. I don't play mobile games though, which probably take up a lot of usage. I've had so many phones and roms over the years tell a lite ROM fits my agenda. It's still to each own. Just know I'm not just sitting and looking at my screen for over 5 hour of use lol. I'm also in and have LTE which shows in screenshots.

I am running sick-sense ROM while using the performance battery profile on cpu editor. I have LTE, and auto sync on the whole time while doing some browsing, a couple of hours of tune in radio, 8 mins of calls, some txts via google voice, and a bit of music.
I'm back with more lol My settings are still the same from previous post.

any web browsing... it doesnt really show any usage, aside the screen has been on?
Yes,I just flashed the new 2.0 radio as well. I've even listen to some music. It seems that if the app hasn't used a lot of cpu power then it doesn't show up.I

I found the cleanroms have really great battery life. I gave up Samsung skyrocket because of the poor battery life but with this phone and with that rom in particular I was very impressed. With a full charge I can last all day with a good amount of use (phone calls, texts, auto syncing, and email) and still have 40% or so at days end.

Have you tried any of the other settings (performance/battery, batterysaver)? I'm currently using cleanrom DE, but I'm a little underwhelmed by the battery life. It could be that I wiped everything and spotify/chrome/redditnews is downloading everything fresh (they have been using quite a bit of data). I guess my usage these past two days have been a little out of the ordinary.
I'm very interested with sick sense though. The battery carrot is very enticing. I'm a bit worried about the journaling though. Will it make it difficult if I want to switch back to another rom?

I haven't tried the other profiles yet. I wanted to start off with this profile to see what this rom can really offer under the highest settings. Based on what others have said about the other profiles, the battery saver profile is where it's at if you want maximum battery life out of your phone. As far as flashing other roms and journaling, I don't have any experience doing that because this is my first rom. Also, I don't know if the disabled journaling on this rom impacts flashing other roms and am curious to know as well. Anybody knows if the disabled journaling will keep me from switching roms? I am new to this stuff so bear with me here....

Well, in lieu of other responses, what have you found with your current settings? Everything about the same? I have mean, thats pretty good for high performance setting and heavy use, yes?
I've noticed with at least my Infuse that whenever I have my Wifi on I have significantly lower battery drain than when I have it off. I'm currently running Aeon 1.4 with Entropy's kernel but have noticed this with other kernels and ROMs that I've used. Screenshot attached showing that pretty much as soon as the wireless is turned off the battery usage takes a sudden drop and continues until it comes back on. Is there an issue with my phone or are there some settings that I should be aware of and try changing to remedy the issue?
I tried searching around before I made this thread and couldn't find anything that had the same issues I've been having. Any input would be appreciated.

I see what you are talking about, however I think the issue is less with your wifi being off as it is with your cell signal being low. Looking at the cap you provided I can see where in the second wifi off period you could think that the wifi was your problem, but look at the first. you have the same drain with the wifi off as you do with it turned on (practically). Change the modem. Find one that works great in your area, because with the modems for the infuse newer is not always better. Also you can try one of those little RF booster things that go on your phone behind the battery to boost signal. I know they seem like a scam, but they do sometimes give just enough boost to keep a phone from searching for signal when it should have great signal. But try flashing a new modem first.

I'll have to start looking around for a new modem, currently I'm on UCLB3; my only concern is this is the only modem to provide me with a quick GPS lock and I don't want to lose that ability. Thanks for the suggestion
Check the modem thread. I had some great luck with an older one (k1 I think it was). I have since passed on my infuse to my son, and I can ping his location within 15 yards in under 2 minutes. I have a post over there where I got 5 days of battery life and it should tell you the modem I was using as well as rom and other info about the setup I had.

Thanks for the link, I'm actually using ADW Launcher Ex right now and by the looks of it I shouldn't. Though I don't think I'm ready to spend the money on esf shell; are there any other recommendations for launchers that aren't as much of battery hogs?

If you have an ics based rom apex is nice. Launcher pro plus for gb is good IF you don't use the LPP included widgets.

Giving FTL Launcher Lite a shot, if it doesn't work out or if it's not recommended I'll try out Launcher Pro, thanks again!
I tried it for a couple days, was not my cup of tea. But it had outstanding reviews so I gave it a shot. I think I ended up going to LPP or ADW with the infuse.
A few other things to check are: Make sure your phone is not always scanning for wifi networks.
If you are in an area of low cell signal and don't need your phone to call people, flip on airplane mode.
Turn off auto brightness... use the power widget (or the 17 notification toggle tweak) to change your brightness between 10% (low light) 20% (medium light) and full (when in bright daylight conditions).
There is somewhere a tweak to turn off H+ and 3G when not in those service areas, find it, use it. (Google *#*#4636#*#* or is it *#*#3646#*#*... idfk one of those...
Check your sns sync schedule for short times. Set them to a longer interval or off. You should check ALL sync schedules for this, calendar is a major culprit of this, even if you don't have one setup.
Install "badass battery monitor" use it to check wake locks and battery voltage and temp. It has a great "battery sucker" feature that will tell you what is draining your battery.
NEVER USE AUTO APP KILLERS! They do more harm than good. Hold home and open the task manager and kill the apps yourself. It will take 15 seconds and if you do it for 3 days a few times a day, it becomes a habit. Don't be all grrr and do it 60000000 times a day. Just every now and then.
If you have installed a few apps and launchers that didn't work out for you, I would say booting into recovery and clearing the cache or a reset are in order. Uninstalls rarely remove everything they should and leave behind bits of code that will suck your battery like a hidden mosquito you can never swat.
Probably the most helpful tidbit anyone can give you is to not stress over the battery life constantly. You have a wonderful device that you have spent a lot of time customizing to look the way you want it to look. The more you stress over the battery the more you will check it, turning on that big beautiful screen sucking even more life from it. Making user error the major battery sucker in the equation... You wanted that beautiful beast, enjoy it.
Sorry so long, but trying to be thorough and helpful. These are the major tips I used to get 5 days from my phone. But honestly after day 2 or 3 I started really cracking the whip and refused to use my phone for anything other than texting.

Its been about the same, possibly a bit better. I've been using the battery app you mentioned to find what's causing the drain and kinda working with it from there. However I was in an area with roaming for a week so I can't give an accurate conclusion.
The BCM4330's standby drain is extremely low. In addition, when active, it requires FAR less energy per byte of data transferred than the cell radio.
OF COURSE background syncs are going to use less power over wifi than over the cell radio.
The whole "turn your wifi off" to save power became invalid over a year ago. (Exception: If the wifi chip misbehaves, such as the infamous BT-AMP bug, but I haven't seen that in many months.)
Here a couple of threads I found regarding this mystery drain.
From the past:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1224052&highlight=battery
Here is the i9000 battery drain issue I was refering to:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1039696
The last few pages hinted that the problem may have been fixed in later gb builds.
Our custom kernels was based of Roger's 2.3.3.
Would the bug be still in it?
Could this be why we (at least me anyway) are still seeing this?
