Three undocumented functions of the sensation - HTC Sensation

I say they are undocumented because I have not found any reference to them in the sensation user manual or on any of several android forums. All these were found and documented using ICS 4.03 so I don't know it they work on other versions, but it won't hurt to try.
The first is "Safe Mode" this is like safe mode on a windows PC. It loads the OS without loading any low level apps and allows one to load apps one at a time to see which is causing a problem.
Power off -> power on -> when the htc logo appears hold the volume down key down until the device completely boots. There will be a "Safe Mode" notification in the lower left of the screen.
The second is power on without touching the power on button. With the screen off touch the home screen icon and swipe to the search icon - and voila the screen comes on.
The Third is taking a screenshot in a new way. The normal method of taking a screenshot is to depress the power button then hit the home screen icon. The hidden function is to tap the search icon and swipe to the home screen icon - and voila a new screenshot.

Nope, what ROM/Kernel are you running?

I'm pretty sure the last two swipe features are not things that are present in a stock ROM, as they are features in a custom ROM.

If the OP's signature is up to date, then they are running the stock ROM. Notice the quote below.

This is kernel function, sleep2awake to be more precise.

I have a stock XE non rooted on v4.0.4. I tried the swipe functions and they don't work, would be cool though.
In UK on 3

You can press both power button and volume down button for a screenshot too.

Since no one else can duplicate those I guess they are due to the ROM I just flashed which is ARHD 1.1.0 T-Mobile US. I need to update my signature file.

sleep2wake is kernel function and has absolutley nothing to do with ROM.
Unless ROM uses kernel that has support for it...

ADHD comes with Faux's kernel which also supports sleep2wake by swiping your fingers across the buttons. So this is obviously a misunderstanding.

That's pretty cool and nifty, especially the screenshot one. They all workes for me on leedroid.

[REQ] Mod to remap personalize button...

Please? I sooooooo want to make it useful, like Browser or Msgs.
Thumbs up for that request
Like buttons remapper ?

This would be great. This was one of the first things I did to my MT4G.
+1. You can long press on the screen to get to the Personalize menu; why have it as a button as well?
ui build.prop
i know when i had the mytouch 4g you could remap the "g" button by editing the UI/Mapkey file something like that. will try and find the thread
edit: ok found the thread, but dont know if it also possible on sensation or not....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=836702
update: pretty sure it not the same thing since it was a hardware button the was remaped. just trying to help
I know this was done in at least one ROM on the MT4G, and there are MODS in the Desire Z / HD/ G2 forum

What, not on any of the homescreens? Long press and the Personalize menu comes up?
It's a core Android feature; they wouldn't remove it.

Nope. If I long press on a blank or empty part of any screen nothing happens. Its a UK T Mobile

Weird. What ROM you on?
Stock t mobile rom
I`ve since discovered that I can get to the personalize screen by long pressing the screen if there is an empty space for a shortcut icon. Previously all my homescreens were full so obviously I had to remove a shortcut to be able to then personalize that screen.
Sorry, my mistake but in my defence it is my first Android phone and I`m slowly finding my way around it.

Hi, maybe try this disabling the snapshot by : Edit your build.prop file in /sytem and change: From true to ---->
ro.htc.framework.screencapture = false
if still no fix... flash another rom
Hope I helped you
This seems to be a very frequent problem in some of the newer roms. I believe the screen shot should occur if you hold the power and home button together however the phone thinks the power button is pressed at times and so takes a screen shot when you press home. Try holding the power and home button and taking a few screen shots and it should stop it from taking a screen shot with just home button for a while. If not then change the rom. I haven't used the particular rom you're using so I'm not sure if it here is a option to turn off the screen shot. I would suggest trying coredroid...love the rom and you can turn off the screen shot feature if it starts to act up..

[KERNEL] Slide to Unlock

So I came across this in the EVO 3D forums. How hard do you think it will be to port this to our device?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1346760
It is in development already. See bricked kernel thread for more info.
Sent from my Sensation
Anyway to enable this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269247
And gnex has it
Both Bricked and TamCore have this feature.
Bricked: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269247
TamCore: http://files.tamcore.eu/android/?dir=tamcore-kernel
Bricked gives you an option to enable it during installation, while TamCore requires you to flash a zip to enable it, which you can get on the same page, under the name "sweep2wake_enable.zip".
A few kernels already have it.
I am already using it...
Already using it on bricked!
It's nice because you don't have to constantly use your power button to turn on device ! I really love it! It's so easy.

Is there any way to make it more efficient when locking the device? I find that it closes the current application and goes to the home screen (as you swipe the back and home keys when locking your device).
This is quite annoying when using an app like gmote when I may need to immediately unlock my phone again to pause/play adjust volume etc, as I find that the app has been terminated when putting the device to sleep.
I really like the idea of not having to mash my power button any more than necessary, so using the sweep to lock would be ideal. I also noticed that even in the demo video of sweep to wake, the menu button gets pressed as the phone is locked (you can see the launcher menu appear for a second before the device locks).
Any suggestions would be appreciated, but I wanted to get some guidance before posting any sort of feature requests in the dev forum.
Thanks guys!

Sometimes it will pull up the power window, it will go back, back out of an app...instead of posting here...post in show-p threads.
It's a good feature, the bricked & faux kernels have it as far as I know!

Brilliant idea! This actually works as desired, and it doesn't seem to activate the home button in the sweep/swipe either. Now I just need to get in the habit of skipping the back key.

There's a thanks button.
However, I don't see how this is practical much. I only lock using sweep because it's a good shortcut to exit current app, go to home & luck.

"No Power Button" Project

Okay so im having a little project to get rid of using power button, cuz mine is really "soft" and i believe someday it will stop responding...
Im currently using few apps&tricks:
Turning off screen:
Screen Off & Lock
Turning on the screen:
Volume key wake
or as in most roms now, its enable-able in settings/tweaks
Rebooting, entering recovery or bootloader:
Quick Boot (Reboot)
And recovery:
4EXT Recovery Touch
Im currently running cm7mod rom and i am trying to find a code or good replacement to open "cm7 power button menu or advanced boot menu" if its called that, to open from shortcut or different key then long press power button. And another one for now is taking a screen shot from different combo then "power button+home" I know there is some apps to take screenshots but i would prefer to edit some files myself to make it happen.
Hope this helps somebody with same issues and maybe someone can give me some pointers!
PEACE
Thanks for the tips.
I'm sure this will come in handy for people who're wearing out their power button (like me!!)

Hey, thanks for that video. Makes for an interesting party trick!!
But the problem with this is phone unlocking inside your pocket, and secondly, continuous polling of the proximity sensor is going to gobble your battery up pretty fast. But i'll have to try it out for atleast a day to support that theory.
Thanks for the info anyway.
Did anyone try to use warranty because of the power button? mine is going softer every week...

Good news coming for your project in the next couple of days. Need some finetuning, but it's looking promising.
You won't be able to simply edit stuff to make it work on other roms, but Reaper will have it.
Cheers

Yummy, more mischief from the chef!!
I've always used Screen off apps on all my devices !
Even since the days of WinMo there was such app
One of the first apps I install on my phone when I load a New ROM is screen off and lock
I don't need the volume wake though - that would just wear out the volume buttons when I already use it for music control

Home key results in nothing

Last night, my AT&T HOX discharged completely. I'm thinking it might have reset and went into a constant bootloop, but I'm only guessing. So I plugged up to the charger and let it get charged about 10% before really messing with it. So rebooting the phone led me to a "frozen" screen. At first I thought it was the Picture Password Lockscreen app so I uninstalled it. No change.
I then realized it wasn't a frozen screen (although the slow start up continue after each reboot, but the home key would not function. Menu button will function, so would the back button. Only problem was that despite having the haptic response from the keys, I couldn't get to the home screen. It was just a white screen at and the notification bar at the top. The only way I was able to get a launcher to open was due to the Play Store notification that allowed me to open my ADW launcher from the app list. I installed a home switcher, but still, could not get the home button to work. The hepatic response was back, but it would not yield going directly to ADW as my default launcher, nor select one once I cleared defaults. So I dirty flashed my ROM (Venom XL 3.2.6) and again got the slow start and the inability fort he home key to bring me to the homescreen (or the option to select). I then thought the perhaps it was an issue with the kernel, but still the same thing occurs after flashing the stock kernel. I get the haptic response and the screen does a quick flash. Nothing else.
Has anyone encountered this before or have any idea what controls this function and how to fix it?
From launcher, check your hone button settings, preferences-gesture settings. Check Home key - it should say that it is set to Show home screen. If that doesnt work check to see if in pocket detection is enabled. If it is, try disabling.
