i know this is totally off topic but i noticed you use dev host for sharing files is that a better alternative as opposed to dropbox? if so is dev host free or relativley inexpensive? drop box is ok but really limits the amount you can upload. but what i do like about dropbox is i can access my files 24/7 from anywhere with a internet connection and they have an android app which makes uploading files very easy...

I use both. I use dev-host for things that I upload that will possibly have more traffic, as dropbox can't handle it. I use dropbox for personal stuff that I'm not uploading for the community. Dev-host has free hosting

Can this be flashed in Odin?
I know, noob type question. But I was wondering if that is how this file was meant to be flashed. I need to put my Skyrocket back to stock.

I have a question. I updated to ICS VIA odin and now my camera wont work. I tried every possible idea, wiping and flash back to stock 2.3.5 from another file in the stickie section but no luck. Will this file get my camera back up? How does it differ from the TAR file on the stickie section? Any help will be gladly appriciated

You don't need the pit with the tar file.

This is a full Odin .tar -- no pit file needed.
Question: I had DK17 with Quantum ROM 1.5...I just flashed the .tar in Odin. No PIT file. I also unchecked F.Reset Time (I think thats what it said). I flashed correctly, right? I have 100% stock DK28 now, correct.
Also, is this the official Froyo build?
Everything seems to be working correctly. Rotation is still a tad slow though. Lock screen lag is 100% gone.

I'm less annoyed now I guess since people have already posted rooted versions etc. As long as the stuff gets to the users, in the end I'm happy. I'm giving up on getting a response from the mod, I think - this here is turning into a good thread so let's go with it.

Sorry guys, didn't seen any other thread with the .tar (because it was deleted I guess). Got mine from a source and posted it. Didn't know anyone else posted it. This one is a little different anyway, because it doesn't require the victory .pit to work.
OP can you please remind the users that they will BREAK ROOT and recovery if they flash this.... They will also not be able to install Themes........
Thank you

[Tester Needed] kb2 odin package

So I asked a question in q&a (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262729) about a way to get back to kb2 since my replacement came preloaded with it and if I ever had to send it back I wanted it to go back with the stock rom. After failing to find one I found a way to back the stock rom into a odin package.
According to the instructions there shouldn't be any bootloaders that could hard brick a phone. I would try this myself but if in the process I get soft bricked then I don't think I have a way to get back to kb2 stock. Therefore if anyone has already flashed a rom and can tell me if this works i would be greatly appreciated. If anyone know a little dev work and can tell me if I need to change anything that would be great too.
Link for stock rom will be posted as soon as filesonic upload is complete. Thanks for anyone willing.

Which file is right?
So I searched around and found this thread while looking for the community kernel (old I know). But when I'm flashing this kernel, which of the files am I supposed to choose? I see a cert.sf, cert.rsa, manifest.mf, update-binary, updater-script, and then in the other folder a redbend_ua, and zImage...I'm kind of new to this Thanks for the help!
EDIT: I managed to figure out it was the zImage file. But my problem is that when I try to flash that, it takes a little while before it just tells me it failed to verify kernel (something along those lines) and then it doesn't flash it. Am I doing something brutally wrong? I already have CWM installed as per the video linked by the "Super Everything" thread on XDA. Could somebody maybe re-upload this kernel please?
Also, if I were to flash a different ROM, like say Serendipity VII, then do I still need to flash a kernel before hand? Or can I just download the ROM to my sdcard and install it with CWM? Thanks for the help!

I ran Serendipity as my first ROM, and ran it on my cappy also, to include my boys cappys
http://serendipityinfuse.weebly.com/index.html
Just follow the instructions on the above.
But if you want to try another ROM, you will have to go back to stock, well I had but I do on a regular bases...use this below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Do not unzip the PDA_Community_Voodoo_Kernel_v8.tar.md5 file. Use Odin and because the file name starts with PDA, load it in the PDA slot and flash.
Bigjoe: So just to confirm, I can go straight from UCKH1 with cwm and rom manager and NO community kernel flashed to serendipity? All I have to do is put the file onto my phone and boot into CWM(mine usually goes into blue then I click reinstall packages and then it goes to green) and then wipe data and cache and then install the file from my sdcard? He isn't very clear in his instructions when he says just flash the rom as one step haha
Also, on the original topic, the file that was uploaded on minus at the to of this thread isn't a PDA tar file. It's the community kernel zip. So I was trying to flash it with sgs kernel flasher. Is that wrong?

[Q] WANTED: Rogers I727R Stock Android ROM

I have been searching (the forums, the google, and more) for the SGH-I727R_RWC_I727RUXKJ7_I727RRWCKJ7_I727RUXKJ7 stock Rogers ROM.
I want to have a fail-safe in the event of a soft-brick, and it looks like all previous uploads and other freely accessible methods of obtaining this ROM have turned into dead or deleted links. RapidShare, Hotfile, and MegaUpload (obviously) have all ceased to host this ROM.
Letitbit, a Russian filehost, seems to be the only place still hosting it, and each time I attempt to download it from them the archive gets corrupted at a different point during the download(thanks CRC Check).
I really want try out some of these ICS ROMS, but I'd like to be able to return to stock if everything goes wrong, or I don't like it.
Does anyone out there have the SGH-I727R_RWC_I727RUXKJ7_I727RRWCKJ7_I727RUXKJ7 ROM, and are willing to upload it?
Much Thanks.

YEs it is . use the link that i posted to take you to rootzwiki and download it there.
what is this talk of .RPM on touchwiz jellybean? i have searched and found little info... sorry op not trying to hijack your thread!
Here's a couple posts I found earlier today about rpm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33187381&postcount=4155
and this latter one is more descriptive about what changes with OTA's and apparently only the rpm is of consequence...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=32538851&postcount=3532
and finalement, here's a post with the JB leak's rpm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33557322&postcount=260
Now I still don't know what this does other than exist.
yea im trying to figure out its purpose and if i need to add it too my guide. thx for those links!

I'm still new to Samsung, so someone correct me if I'm way off-base, but the gist I got was that when a new rom (or leak) comes from verizon, it includes rom+kernel+rpm+modem... which on an HTC device we called rom+kernel+firmware+radio. So my understanding is that if you just flash the new radios without the new firmware that matches up with what your dev used as a base, there could be compatibility issues.
(Much more knowledgeable people discussed this in the Cleanrom thread as in those links above).
i understand all of that...just trying to figure out what exactly is rpm. thx !

In simple terms if I understand correctly it installs files that you don't get in flashing a ROM. Gives you an option if you don't want to go back to stock via Odin and OTA back up to current version.

RIL files and Power Managment files to coincide with ROM and Modem version to avoid possible conflicts and issues?

ahh ok now were getting somewhere! thx!!
So does an odin back to stock undo whatever this file does or does another rpm file need to be flashed to undo it?

If you Odin to a prior version of stock, it should be included in the zip which simultaneously changes the modem. The reason an rpm is being discussed is because when flashing custom roms and modems, this isn't updated. Think of an Odin flash of older images as "reversing an update," all those same files are added when you accept an OTA, so they'll be changed if you Odin an older stock image.
If I'm wrong, I'll gladly redact my comment but that's what I understand from this discussion.

Thanks, it's starting to make more sense to me. I'm not unfamiliar with root but typically only do so to eliminate bloat, otherwise I'm happy with stock builds. The JB leak changed things a little so I want to get a better handle on what I'm installing and why.
stable
Why can't this just be simple.....I just want a good stable everything and then leave it alone.....Will that ever happen?

flash back to stock and leave your device alone...pretty simple.
So if we revert to a ROM backup, do we need to manually turn back the rpm as well, like we do with the modem? Sounds like we need vrali5 for jb leak. I will play around with jb for awhile though go back to ICS for everyday stability use, until I find a jb I like. Do I need to revert the rpm when I restore ICS? Where do I find older rpms. Thanks.
