After over a year why does microsoft refuse to give us an authorized app that can change tile colors from the basic 10? Seriously is there a good answer? The best I can come up with is because that app would have to have registry access to be able to give us custom colors. However why make it an app? Why not just build it into the OS like a hot fix in settings or something..
their reason is probably design related. They chose colors that are clearly readable in both themes, light and dark. If they allowed custom colors, people would be able to, for example, create white tiles. Match that with the light theme, white text and white pictograms and the phone would be unusable. This goes for a lot of colors where text or pictograms simply become undistiguinshable or unreadable. It's simply a way to prevent this from happening and I don't see what the big fuzz is. Surely amongst these 10 colors should be at least one color you like, I myself switch around with 4 of the accents.

Personally only the Nokia Blue color is just not god awful to look at. I have tried every combination both light and dark and the Nokia Blue is the only one that when you take the phone out to show it off just doesn't scream ugly. Some of us like other colors of the spectrum besides the primaries. Particularly the darker spectrum. On my HTC I set it to a very nice shade of dark grey and it looked so buttery smooth and sleek. As to the design concept I can see that but a simple fix would be a basic if/else If theme = light (insert spectrum here not allowed) like white on white. I can see that idea as one reason but it's such a simple fix I can't see why they couldn't think of more colors.
Personally it's the only feature I miss from my HTC Surround was Advanced Config. Change tile color to match my mood that day and set a custom SMS tone. (Still not sure why this functionality has not been implemented yet after almost 2 years...)
Agreed, the color choices are pretty lame. And there should be an official tool to add colors. I understand someone may choose a color that can't be seen properly, but then hell, just change it back At some point, the hand holding has to be pulled back just a little and allow people to learn something on their own. And some of the colors are completely unusable for a guy that is not into Magenta, Purple, etc. But Brown! Who the hell ever uses that? I haven't seen not one SS or post from someone saying that was a color they used on their phone. It should've at least been replaced by a Grey seeing as how that's a more modern color! I've never seen Brown used in a Modern setting.

Lol, you guys jelly? And I think the some of the default colors are pretty cool actually.. Magenta is cool, blue is cool, lime is cool, blue is cool, red is cool, purple is cool. The other colors are ok except for nokia blue and brown..
Maybe I'm just a fanboy.

As to hardcoded accents there is actually a microsoft article on development that teaches developers NOT to use hardcoded accents in their apps. So that argument is right out.

I still say it would be a simple app / inclusion to the OS to have a color wheel or something that allows more colors. Or if custom colors for whatever reason was totally out then at least add say 30 accents?

regarding your first point: I think you're misinterpreting my statement wrong or that article . The article highlights that app developers should respect the accent of the user and not hardcode the accent itself into the app (meaning: it should use the color value provided in the system, not simply take the color value #FF1BA1E2 and slap it in there). My point was, that often developers use a second color in their apps, that go along nicely with the chosen accent. Some are hardcoded to look nice, others simply take the complementary color (weave comes to mind) which can result in weird/ugly color combinations.
as to your second post: I agree with the second part of that point: MS should add more accents in their system. I myself do not favour a color wheel approach of allowing users to use *any color they want*. If they'd provide 25-30 accents, surely no one could claim that their heterosexual lifestyle could be threatened by the colors of their phone :-D.

Perhaps custom colors are not allowed because they're edited at the registry level and that's currently a WP7 no-no. My device is dev unlocked and I still don't have access to create accent colors either directly or via apps. I hope that this is addressed in WP8.

number one: I see what you did there, nice one . But magenta on cyan? doesn't that look horrible? :-D
I don't think registry level is what's standing in our way. After all, adding or assigning a custom ringtone also requires access to the registry, as does changing the current theme. And surely MS would be able to allow such an app or setting not to be abused freely for our pleasure, they'd only need to allow access to the appropriate keys. I really think the main concern is design related: preventing people from using horrible color schemes that could deter first time users (for example, magenta on cyan ) and/or design issues with apps.

I was getting bored with not liking Nokia Blue on this device and not having a Cyan match. Magenta is just funky as all get out. I really don't like many of the accent colors. Can't wait for options!

I just tested this out on my black lumia and it's just too intense. Looks more like a rad pink than magenta. I still say they should just add more colors if not give us the color wheel option. Definitely very intense on the black Lumia. The cyan body changes the way the display looks in its intensity. That's why can get away with it. Were I to own the black, I'd go for blue theme. I agree... More options!!!!

Many of the colors carry a pastel tone. I think if they added a dark tone version for the ones that are there it would be a good set to choose from. Maybe a light/dark color selector as well as light/dark background.

I don't think it's why "can't" MSFT, but why "hasn't" MSFT.
Not sure there's really much point to this question anymore until we know the details of WP8. If custom/customizable themes are not present there... then hell hath no fury like that of a Windows Phone user stuck with pink.

Blue text on keyboard is from a mod I made with other theme. I thought I took that out but if u long press in text field an option will pop up select input method. Then choose second android keyboard. That has the red keys in pic on first post. BTW I hardly get any lag from this keyboard.

Hey boss, phenomenal work ... in my opinion, this theme is even better than Blue Echo. I did notice a couple of things, thought it might help ...
1) The "application selection" bubble is blue (the bubble that appears when you press on an application, forgive the noobocity but I don't know the official name). I had a feeling it could be a remnant of a different theme in the same light as the "blue keyboard".
2) The lock pattern color is the stock green. Its a small thing, but considering the astounding thoroughness of the color changes (remarkable, really, how detail-oriented you are) it stood out.
3) Finally ... and just an idea ... is it possible to make the addressbook names white instead of black? I realize it may seem a bit athematic, but it would improve the legibility substantially.
I don't mean to sound critical because, in my humble opinion, this is the best theme I've ever seen. The detail is astounding, really well done. I just thought maybe I could help with ideas for V3.
Keep it up boss!

Hey thanks for the input.
I'm working on changing the text to white but its proving to be a pain in the ass. Also the blue bubble thing and keyboard will be fixed in next version
I will look and see what I can do about lock pattern. Trying to upgrade both this theme and blue echo at same time but expect something soon.
BTW if u long press in text field and choose input method and select second android keyboard ull love it.
Also if any one knows a way to change text to white in HTC contacts please help. I can change it globally throughout phone but really just want it changed in the one place.
white lines in clock
I was wondering if you have fixed the lines through the clock. This theme kicks all kinds of a$$, but that is kinda bothering me.
I love the Theme! I have been using it now for about a week.
I have a little feed back to help make the theme better. I know we can switch to the red keyboard by long pressing in the text field (thanks to your quick reply to a previous post), but when I switched to the red keyboard, I was dissapointed to see that there was no speech to text mic button anywhere on that keyboard. Is there a reason that it is not on the red keyboard, but is on the blue keyboard?

This would look fantastic on any desktop. wish I was a coder too.
it would be simple to take that image and make it into a clock but I dont think theres any way of making the calendar actually work....
it would be purely aesthetic....
theres also the issue of the person who created it...
I wouldn't really be comfortable using it without permission....
I dont think you would be able to get the digital clock inside the circle either.....
As I am a fan of conventional watch gears, I was wondering how to replicate this effect on the Sense Clock. Thus I had the idea of concentric rings. As with all ideas, I googled to see what was out and lo and behold I found something similar.
Due to limited space on our devices the clock should only consist of 3 rings
Inner Ring - Hours 24 segments. (12 in white, 12 in black for AM/PM)
Middle Ring - Minutes 60 segments
Outer Ring - Seconds 60 segments
The time would be shown @ the 3'Oclock position so we could read the time conventionally.
For increased visual appeal, the 3 rings could be programmed to move in opposite directions. E.G Hours move CCW (counter clockwise), minutes move CW and seconds move CCW.

Permission granted. Basic Design would be something similar to this:
Inner Ring (BLUE) - Hours 24 segments. (12 in white, 12 in black for AM/PM).
Middle Ring (GREEN) - Minutes 60 segments
Outer Ring (RED)- Seconds 60 segments
Time Display Box (Black)- Displays Time. Most likely in Larger Font than on the wheel to make it easier to read.

Make it more like the original clock, the display in the centre and the present values marked by a line (at 12 or 3 position). For the scripts and the mode9 file the files by mncessna can be used. But I would advice against too colorful picture. Make instead a black/white version for day and a lumen version for night. You have to do three pictures (6 for day/night) for the "hands", which are really 256x256 pixel pictures with transparent background and the 24/60/60 in the start position (red line in the original clock). The centre with time and date can be transparent. For the scripts and the mode9 file I can help.
somebody give me an update on this?
i'd like to create this clock. is that ok?
i've attached a picture of a clock i made of concentric rings. it's an appealing picture to watch....for some reason, i enjoy watching the wheels turn...by the way, the cover for this clock has a rectangular opening on the right side. it has rounded corners. this is where the current time is displayed. i intended to make the cover only 10% transparent, just enough to let the wheels moving behind it show up a little....sort of add to the mystique of it. but i made it 100% transparent for now so i could debug it. i think i like it this way
i've also posted a clock of concentric circles i made. it's a neat one too. it has a weekday function, a moving second hand ball, ampm indicator, and 2 green balls surrounding the current hour. the current minute is indicated by a small blue ball.
SlimBrown asked me to help him with this clock. i told him i'd like to do that.
so, is it ok to proceed? i've sort of been working on it already but thought i'd better ask before doing to much more.

yeah, that's a "feature" of the lua script that drives all the motion and text displays.
every second, the seconds wheel is rotated and the minutes wheel is rotated.
there is a "calendar" function that gets called routinely, but not every second, that updates the time text.
i wanted the snapshot to be with the second hand at the top centered position. i should've waited until the calendar function had updated the time text.

I had some strange issues creating a transparent background for the red and blue version, so they have a full screen black background. Also, by not having transparency, I can save in jpeg format which is *MUCH* smaller, and noticeably snappier. (UOT who has this converted it to png)

Hmm, it runs almost perfect on mine. For a 'normal' boot cycle (after the rom has been loaded, and dalvik all set up), it runs for one complete cycle slower, then on the subsequent cycles it speeds up. It's 112 frames long, which is certainly within a normal range for a boot animation. Just turned my phone off/on and it ran through a good 4 cycles.
Now if I stop the core to push a file into the system partition, it gets chopped when I start core again, but that's different.
Nice one, fits perfect for flavoured ice dark cherry theme on Enoms rom

You're right it is easy to do a simple hue change. However, where I ran into difficulties was in the black background. Had similar problems with the red version. I think it has something to do with how I changed the background, as I never really had too many problems with the original version. But since you got me started on it, I'll try to get it finished
Nice Work! looks good fellow Tulsan!!
I really like this. Keep up the good work. Would be awesome to have the green version in a black background.

Thanks. The green is my personal fav, too..I think it shows his texture, and 3D like qualities better.
Ideally I'd rather have a transparent background, which I would think would show as black. But having him on a transparency like that would make it easier to do other things later. I just haven't learned my way around the image editing stuff very well...but I'm learning.
I've got a couple other sections of video I *think* I might be able to isolate with some work. Some of this stuff if pretty tedious though (for me anyway). That android guy I put in for an avatar earlier... I had to reconstruct the right 1/3 of his head as it was covered by something else on the screen. And as long as I spent on it, I'm still not near as good as what the original creators did.
i just pushed the green version with white bg, it woulda been fine but then now the top 1/3 and bottom 1/3 of screen is black and the mid part is white

Oops, my bad...I guess I didn't really explain that. Yes, that's the correct display. The area of video that the base work was lifted from was a 16:9 aspect ratio, and our phones are like a 9:15 aspect ratio the other way. As that was my initial piece, I was more concerned with getting the animation smooth sized right. But after seeing it on the phone, I actually kinda like it the way it is.
I'll update the op so that folks are aware ahead of time. Work is planned for the green guy for sure...
and when everything smooth out you should add strobe lights for the robot to dance to or music notes... something in the background.. idk.. lol
am I the only one having issues installing this bootani?
I tried with AmonRa (1.8.0.1) with error "no installation script" or something like this.
Then I copied the bootanimation.zip file directly into /data/local
both 2 methods didnt work for me...
help me please...

Well, I'm not sure what to tell you. What rom are you running? I know one of the desire ports is putting it in /system/customize/ or something similar..can't remember.
Try pushing the file to your /system/media/ folder and see if that works...
Ths is really cool!
Thank you!

Please do NOT post these themes or link back to it anywhere else. Anything you find wrong should be posted in this thread. Please leave feedback or let me know if I missed/messed something up.
So @andybones approached me about helping him get a fully inverted, clean looking stock green theme, to go with the Sense 6 Green color. After it was made, I felt we should just make use of the built in theme engine of Sense 6 to give you 12 color choices. Not only does this change what it does in the normal themes, but it changes then consistently so you don't have mixed colors throughout the apps. This took a very long time to accomplish, we hope you like it as much as we do.
WE SPENT A LOT OF TIME ON THIS, SO WE RESERVE OUR RIGHT TO EXCLUSIVITY.

This is a stock-like greyyy inverted theme that I have had in my head ever since HTC Sense 3.6 - check out my old work from a few years back!
When Sense 6 came out I knew right away I wanted to dig this up and bring it back to life. The new green works really well with a dark background.
I got about 40% done with the theme when I realized.. I'm not a themer.. I need some help. I asked my friend @icedventimocha if he would assist me in making the theme, I was currently on the M7, but I ported what I had done to my Bonestock M8 ROM so that he could see what I wanted and also so that he is no longer working blind. We both put in many hours into this theme to make it as bug-free as possible. Given that it is an inverted theme this is quite difficult, and I think we did a great job (with the help of some amazing tutorials, and also Icedventimochas all around knowledge) we were able to get, I'd say 99% of the clashes (a clash being, say a white text on white background, some of these backgrounds are hidden deep within the smali code, and is extremely difficult to find). I am very OCD and extremely picky so I know that it isn't a walk-in-the-park to work with me, so I really appreciate Icedventimocha sticking with me throughout this journey.

PLEASE DO NOT USE ANY PART OF THIS THEME!
So this is where it all started, a whole all out sense 6 theme using the default green, but everything is green and grey, even the android framework. If you're using the green theme this is definitely worth checking out.

frikKing rad Boss!!
Outstanding guys great work! So very much appreciated. Love them all. I can't begin to understand all the time, effort and work that goes into making these themes but from what I have seen it is huge. I have a list I need to make donations to, I made 3 donations so far since I got my M8 a month or so ago and I have 3-4 more I need to show my respect to, icedventimocha, andyBones and buckmarble. you all have really set our great phones off! I really hope others continue to show their appreciation as well! I would like to add one thing, as I love all these colors I also love inverted orange. It's no big deal and I may be alone on this so ignore me if no one else much cares for orange but I feel it would be a great addition. Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication all of your themes are awesome and always fast and on time, they are really great to look forward to and to me a vital part of any great ROM. :good:
Amazing looking theme. This is exactly the type of set up I am always looking for. Wish themes on the M8 were universal between roms, because this would be one of the first things I flashed before testing. But I can't complain that much, because Bonestock is an amazing rom. Thanks for all of your hard work.
Have always been partial to the darker themes, dating all the way back to my Incredible (anyone remember Magnolia?)
Really happy to see all the white go away with these. Thanks!
Looks FABULOUS. Stupid question, though. How do I change colors once the zip is flashed?

I had tried that. On my handset, only the 4 HTC themes appear. The handset defaulted to the green theme without my actually changing any themes in settings. I thought maybe there was something in the zip file but I don't see it. Are there multiple zips, one for each color? (There wasn't when I downloaded it.....)

Were working on finding the images to change.
EDIT: ok.. figured it out, will require to re-download and re-flash theme. Needed to add something to the updater-script to remove the current images so that our new ones would take.

Shrunk the shot. Sorry 'bout that. Looking forward to the change (but everything works now, as long as you know which one is which.)

all good man! - Thank you very much for the donation!
yea wasn't too big of a deal about the images, but def helps to see which one is which. was an easy fix so no biggie.

this will fix a few white bg clashes until incedvenimocha gets the next release out with the fixes.
settings > call
settings > mobile data
that's what the above fixes (makes it black bg, not grey, but better than white.) edit thanks to icedvientimocha this will be grey like it should be
Now that we have the previews working I'm gonna unlock and add 8 more themes

Nope. Not when I flashed it. Went back to recovery and wiped cache/dalvik like initial install script does, then reflashed and still didn't make any difference (in the settings --> call or settings --> mobile data).
Hi all.
I am very glad to see asus has kept a notification LED, as some other phones have dropped this option.
Question, is it multicoloured?, i have only seen it light up RED when charging in videos.

Nice, I see a green and a red there!
Oh my, I'm so tempted by this phone. The only thing I'm wondering about is whether I'd miss not having an AMOLED screen.... The rest of the specs are of high appeal!
not having an amoled screen is not a problem for me , as you can read in my signature
Great thats another tick
Can someone who owns this phone confirm what colours the LED supports and whether its possible to assign different colours to different apps? On my Samsung S5 I have blue set for email, green for Facebook messenger and white for WhatsApp among others. I want to know if its possible to replicate this configuration on the Zenfone 6. Thanks.
If it is an RGB LED use Light manager, im using on my S8+ and its excellent.

I used Light Flow on all my phones with notification LED. You can not only assign different colors to different apps, but also different colors/pulse patterns to different notifications of the same app, based on the notification text/subject. It's great.
I'm aware of the versatility of Light Flow / Light Manager however I want to know what colours the physical LED can support. Guess I'll have to wait until more forum members buy the phone as there don't seem to be many at the moment.
I had significant problems with lightflow, it used to be ok, then started crashing and playing up constantly, hence i switched to light manager, i suggest try both.
+1 for the main OP

Red, green and yellow.
no blue , didnt get it to work when I tried very quickly .
in Zenui there is no built-in support to adjust the LED color but maybe using Light flow or whatever apps it can be done.. although for me I am not interested at all in this so havent really tinkered with it.

There's no Always On Display, though, so a customisable LED becomes more useful. (I don't think there's any AOD, anyway?)

Shame there is no blue. Makes me wonder what the cost difference would be between an RG and RGB LED. Still nice to have one and hope at least 3rd party app customisation will work. Odd they are one of the few who bothered to include it yet they didn't put any effort into making it more effective.

Yeah who knows but I think the real reason is they just kept the led they used before and found a way to include it in Zenfone 6, rather than swap it out.

Ah didn't know they had used the 2-colour previously. Makes sense if they've already got a previous deal planned out and spare stock etc.

There is another aspect: Bicolor LED could have the better visibility than tricolor one.
