Need new download links for the gt-i9020a uncapped radio's - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The posts for new radio's for the 3g version of the nexus S all seem to be dead can someone please upload and link some new radios or even just let me know a good rom that comes with a solid radio because this new nexus S i aquired seems to need a new radio flashed to it.
EDIT: there was a suggestion to flash an old version of android from the 2.3.6 "OTA" bla bla whatever that means. basically this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445621 is full of dead links but looks like it was the most extensive and comprehensive solution for bad radio flashes. but anyways I'm starting to think that this site here needs to start hosting .torrents of all of these files because im running into dead links everywhere its painful.
Either way I need a copy of an working radio still and no progress has been made I have a second nexus S for which I may just simply make a nandroid or w/e backup from recovery and than transfer it over to the new broken device.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884

Thanks that post is much better. I dont even know how I didnt manage to find it over the one i did. I applied the radio and did everything I needed to directly from the Clockwork Recovery.

Flashing the Radio for Noobs

I keep seeing on this and other forums that noobs are unsure about how to flash radio versions. They also don't know about the double reboot, and think they bricked their phone when it loads the radio. I am posting this thread to answer those questions, hoping that it will stop a lot of the same question over and over again in the other threads.
1. To flash your radio, rename the file to update.zip, or just update if your computer doesn't show file extensions.
2. Put the file onto the root of your SD card. (If you have a different update.zip on there, you will have to remove or overwrite the old update.zip).
3. Boot into recovery and hit alt S
4. Reboot your phone. It will reboot twice. The first time, you will see the recovery page for a split second, then you will see a strange screen. The screen will stay on for a minute or two while it writes the radio image, so don't freak out, then your phone will reboot normally.
5. You can upgrade the radio either after, or before you flash the firmware, it doesn't matter which you do first.
6. Yes, if you are going to a completely new firmware version, for example, 1.0 - 1.1 - 1.5, you will have to change your radio to the compatible version, or you will have problems. The same is true for downgrading. You will probably have to downgrade your radio if going back to an older version of firmware.
7. No, you don't have to change radio versions if staying on the same version, example RC33 1.1 to ADP 1.1, or 1.5 H to 1.5 G.
Those are the only questions I can think of at the moment. If i screwed something up, or forgot to add something, let me know!
Looks like this is good info (Was unsure myself, so this helps), not sure why no one else would say thanks.
Thanks .
Thanks for leting me know it helped! It quickly disappeared into the depths of unanswered threads, so I figured nobody would ever see it.
thanks
This helped me also, thanks for breaking it down so well.

Since you will only be flashing the radio when you flash the rom, you should use the radio specified on the page where you got your rom.
Since there are so many versions of Android out now, and they only work correctly with the radio which was built for that version, I didn't want to post links and have people downloading the wrong version, then wondering why they have so many problems.
do i hear music with his radio update?

Rephrase that...?
No, no music. The radio update has something to do with connecting to a signal. (I'm not really up on all of this technology, so I can't give you a more detailed explanation). I do know that many times, if you have the wrong radio version, you won't be able to stay connected though.

[Q] XXXKB1 Radio?

Does anyone have a link to just the update zip radio for XXXKB1. I flashed XB3 and didn't see much difference, maybe even slightly worse reception. I foolishly didn't make a backup prior to flashing the XB3 radio only becasue I thought the link for the XB1 radio on the same page would work. It didn't. File is corrupt. I have searched all over these forums for a good link to the download. Downloaded numerious times at different links. No good file.
I would like to avoid reflashing a stock ROM just to get XB1 back.
Thanks in advance.
Im pretty sure the thread is still open.. but here is a CWM flashable..

Awesome thanks. Yeah I know the thread is open, but my non-existant posting count prevents me from posting there.
I appreciate the help.

[Q] How do I flash new radio using ace hack kit

Im running Android Revolution and now I would like to flash the recomended radio. However i do not have eng s off so fastboot flash radio radio.img does not work for me.
After reading the effen manual, what i understand is that to flash a new radio I need to
1. rename the desired radio zip file to rom.zip
2. place it in the romzip folder
3. open hack ace cmd menu and select to install my own radio
Heres where im confused. When I follow the link provided to here the instructions seem to conflict each other.
Ive studied this as much as I can over the past two days but havent found much solid info.
I also tried using visionary b4 I even flashed the AR ROM but it did not work.
Could someone confirm that it is as easy as stated above or if im wrong please help a brother out. I just need to flash the recommended radio and havent found a solution im confident with. Please and Thanks to anyone who can help me out.
I personally go by the instructions from the link you provided. Just rename the zip, put it in the root of.your SD card, and flash via hboot. And that's it.

no no no
this is how it's done for me, minus the links needed to flash the radio, as they are not mine.
You should also flash the matching RIL file (radio interface layer) that HTC pushed out with this new radio. Here are the steps to do all of this:
Below is a link to my dropbox folder containing the P98IMG.zip file containing the new radio. Download this file to your computer. Now we need to check to make sure the file didn't get corrupted during the download process (extremely slight chance of this happening, but we don't want to flash a corrupt file to your phone and risk bricking it). Download md5.exe from below and run it, and browse to the P98IMG.zip you downloaded. The MD5 hash it displays should match this number exactly:
33BAEBAD8B1E7A20F4603AFF0BA66468
You can paste this number into the MD5 program so you can compare them.
Now that we've verified the file is good, copy this file to the root of your SD card and reboot your phone into bootloader mode. Once you're in the hboot/bootloader screen, select bootloader and wait a few seconds and it will automatically find the .zip file and then prompt you to proceed. This process is what flashes the new radio, it takes about 20 seconds or less. Once it's done, reboot into your ROM like normal. Go into settings>>about phone and check your radio version; it should now show 26.06.06.30.
Now we need to flash the matching RIL file. Download the file below and copy it to your SD card. Don't worry about checking the MD5 hash. Reboot your phone into clockwork recovery mode, and then select install zip from sdcard>>choose zip from sdcard then select the RIL .zip file and flash it. Reboot back into your ROM. We are done! Let me how it works for you. You might give it a few days before making any decisions, it seems like some ROMs need to adjust to new radios/RIL files before the battery life settles down to normal (that is my experience anyway).

My goal is to flash the radio recommended for AR HD. I did so by moving it to root of sd and hboot. But i dont think it took becasue baseband does not match up. It stayed the same after two tries. I would really like to follow the devs instructions for the radio. However I cant seem to successfuly flash it.
NARRRRRRRRRRR did you even read what i typed?
direct instructions
Dude my bad man. Is this the radio for AR HD...radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 ? the numbers did not match up. I dont see a link for your dropbox though? I really apologize for being dense if i am and I really appreciate your quick reply and patience. thank you
We are going to need more specifics on what you did. But following wdkingerys instructions are exactly what you need to do
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
What I did was
1.rename the radio 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 (radio recommended by dev) to PD98IMG.zip
2.boot into hboot it found it i got the progress bar on the right had side it took about 5 seconds or so
3. Then i went into fastboot to select power down and then i turned it back on
I want to follow your directions but I dont see the dropbox links. Like i said earlier I really appreciate your patience
Ok I checked out the AT hd thread and yes 12.54. Is the recommended radio. Wdkingery mentioned the stock ATT radio. When you check the radio/baseball in about phone what does it say? It should match to what your trying to flash
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
Thats what I thought but it doesnt. I went in the IRC (dont remember which) and have gotten a copy of everything wdkingery said and will follow his instructions. It currently says baseband# 12.28b.60.140eP_26.03.02.26
-i think the problem was that the AR HD recommended radio is for a DHD not sure
I've flashed dhd radios, so that shouldn't be the problem. Though in my case the dhd radios were never as good as stock. Again that was me as plenty of others have gotten better results with other radios. It more of a trial an error in my opinion and flashing radio does have its risks so I tend to stay away.
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
I think your right, apparently that radio required eng s off and again thank you.
Im now rockin 06.06.30 and about to load the RIL. Will follow up with results
Got the RIL installed and im good to go speedtest.net app shows 3 down 1 up. Not great but im gonna bet thats more to do with the tornados that just came through here. The network has been iffy throughout the city anyways. Also ill follow the advice given to wait a couple days b4 makin any real judgments. Thank you again to both of you guys. I think ive managed to get my head wrapped around this a little better.
Glad I could help . I think I might have figured it out . I downloaded the 12.54 radio and compared it to my stock zip. The AR ZIP does not contain Android Info text file. This is the first time I've ever looked I.side the zip, so.this is new to me. I believe this file is needed in the zip. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.
So from reading the flashing radio thread. They state to replace the radio images (with the one you want)so the txt file is probably important and hence it not working for you.
You should try out the stock like you said, and see if it works for you. If not I with this new Info, we should be able to get you on 12.54
On a slightly different note. Eng s-off is not needed. And is even riskier than hboot, trays why many devs prefer the hboot method
Sent from my TARDIS using XDA App
Great thank you. I might still want to try 12.54 in the future so ill keep that in mind. I would like to know exactly why one radio is better than the other anyways so for now im happy with this one. I was in the AR HD irc for a while but couldnt get anyone. Ill get to the bottom of it sooner or later. Thanks again

[Q] Help Radio Dump

hello community !
i have a problem that on my SD card i see RADIO DUMP files
from what i have read it means my modem crashes sometimes is that true?
i have MIUI rom running all is working well except these weird dump files that get created from time to time.
as far as i understood i need to flash a different modem if i got it right that will solve the problem?
the thing is i have no idea wich modem i need where i should download it and how to install it
for example i have a Galaxy S also running Miui and i flashed a Modem called JV4 wich is recommended for Orange Israel strait from recovery.
can i use the same file on my nexus s ?
if not could some one please point me for the right modem for me for Orange Israel
and is installation simply from recovery too (install zip from sd) ?
thnx allot in advanced i sure hope the solution for this is easy
theres no fix to it. its just completely random, you're more than free to delete the files.
but yeah, if you want.. you can flash other radios (its not modems) via flashable zips using clockwork recovery. refer to the android dev forums for the RADIO thread and download the radios corresponding to your phone model
you can verify your current radio by going to menu -> about phone -> look for baseband version
hey thnx allot for the quick replay
is the radio has to do something with signal and stuff ?
and when u mean random u mean like its not a problem at all ?
and basiclly flashing a new radio wont solve the issue of the dump files ?
im gonna head over and check wich radio suits me
ive searched for the radio thread but theres so many of them hehe im lost
ok so i found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884&highlight=Radio
but it does not say wich radio is for what area

Yes it does. Find out what model of nexus s you have and download a radio corresponding to your model. You can check your baseband (radio) as I listed before. Reread what I said previously. Everything you need to know is in there.
Or you can just delete the dumps, they're nothing.
I used to get a lot when I fest got the phone and then try mysteriously stopped showing up.

I don't understand what you're asking for.
The DUMPS being dumped into your sdcard are GARBAGE. They happen MYSTERIOUSLY. just delete them. Is there a fix? No. Do we know why that happen? Not 100%, if you want to really find out. Use the search feature and find it. There is a thread about radio dumps in the past, you might find something there. But my solution is to just delete it. It'll happen again but it's not like its going to use up all the space on your phone.
Updating the radio will not help anything. Is there a chance it could? It's possible. But the main reason why you update the radio is to see if it improves your signals. The latest version doesn't necessarily mean its better. It varies between location.
If you have I9020T... download the ones for that. These radios are not based on location, they are based on your PHONE MODEL. It is a global radio and doesn't matter. As long as its respective to the phone model that you have, you're fine. You're making it more complicated than what it really is.
These radios are not based on location, they are based on your PHONE MODEL. It is a global radio and doesn't matter
NOW that makes everything more clear to me !!!
in galaxy s when i had radio dumps i changed radio and it helped this is why i asked for a different radio
but since u said there is really no use of changing a radio and it wont stop the dumps on the nexus s unlike the galaxy so i wont even bother flashing a different one
thnx u so so much for all your help and for making everything clear to me on how it works
thnx !

The only use of changing the radios is to see which of them gives you the best result. If you're that bored, you could go through each of them and see which gives you the best performance. I personally use KB3. KD1 has a bug where it says "3G" instead of "H" at various times and it bugs me.
You're welcome.
well as u said since those dumps wont go even if i flash a different radio then Fu$#*)( it
i dont really feel any poor signal in wifi 3g phone reception etc...
thnx again for everything it works different with the nexus s and galaxy s the radio thingy so now all cleared for me
im not that bored to start checking heheh you answered me perfectly now that i got it

Radio download links?

Hey all, I'm sorry if this seems an odd question, but I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around the process of how the One S gets different features flashed to the device.
I don't have my One S yet (Hopefully it'll arrive later today, 7/27) but I wanted to be prepared when it arrives.
It seems the links are broken in this post and it's stating that this thread is outdated.
If I'm going to flash a new ROM on the device, are the radios generally included in that ROM already? I see that you often times need to manually flash BOOT.IMG on a per-ROM basis due to not having s-off? I'm comfortable with all of that, I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything, and unfortunately it seems as though there is little information in some of the threads on XDA that clearly answer my question.
Call it a personality defect, I just like to 100% understand something in every possible way before being able to attempt it. Unfortunately when I don't have the device in front of me, it prevents me from being able to do that, but that's what forums are for, right?
Cheers all, I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer my question.

The latest radio with android 4.0.4 rom is said to be much better in terms of performace of wifi and cellular data signal then all previous versions, unfortunately buying a phone at this stage means that you probably will have a later hboot version 1.13 and this hboot doesnt allow flashing radio from recovery like the previous versions. You can find out more info about the radio in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781033
To answer your other question the radio has to be flashed separately from the ROM. Hopefully your phone comes with a lower hboot so flashing wont be a problem, make sure you dont accept the ota update out of the box like i did so u dont accidently get an upgraded hboot. Makes life more diificult ;p.
Its a used phone and is already running CM9, so I'm hoping its the older boot. I already made sure it was the S4, but I just realized that the unlocked phones don't support TMOUS bands, so I'm a bit screwed at the moment.
I don't know what the next step is for me, so I may be forced to move to Straight Talk until I can get another 100% compatible TMOUS phone. I saw it has 2100 HSPA radio frequencies so I had assumed it would work on TMOUS. Needless to say I feel pretty stupid now.
Thanks again for the links, they were exactly what I was looking for!
