[Q] XXXKB1 Radio? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone have a link to just the update zip radio for XXXKB1. I flashed XB3 and didn't see much difference, maybe even slightly worse reception. I foolishly didn't make a backup prior to flashing the XB3 radio only becasue I thought the link for the XB1 radio on the same page would work. It didn't. File is corrupt. I have searched all over these forums for a good link to the download. Downloaded numerious times at different links. No good file.
I would like to avoid reflashing a stock ROM just to get XB1 back.
Thanks in advance.

Im pretty sure the thread is still open.. but here is a CWM flashable..

Awesome thanks. Yeah I know the thread is open, but my non-existant posting count prevents me from posting there.
I appreciate the help.

Flashing the Radio for Noobs

I keep seeing on this and other forums that noobs are unsure about how to flash radio versions. They also don't know about the double reboot, and think they bricked their phone when it loads the radio. I am posting this thread to answer those questions, hoping that it will stop a lot of the same question over and over again in the other threads.
1. To flash your radio, rename the file to update.zip, or just update if your computer doesn't show file extensions.
2. Put the file onto the root of your SD card. (If you have a different update.zip on there, you will have to remove or overwrite the old update.zip).
3. Boot into recovery and hit alt S
4. Reboot your phone. It will reboot twice. The first time, you will see the recovery page for a split second, then you will see a strange screen. The screen will stay on for a minute or two while it writes the radio image, so don't freak out, then your phone will reboot normally.
5. You can upgrade the radio either after, or before you flash the firmware, it doesn't matter which you do first.
6. Yes, if you are going to a completely new firmware version, for example, 1.0 - 1.1 - 1.5, you will have to change your radio to the compatible version, or you will have problems. The same is true for downgrading. You will probably have to downgrade your radio if going back to an older version of firmware.
7. No, you don't have to change radio versions if staying on the same version, example RC33 1.1 to ADP 1.1, or 1.5 H to 1.5 G.
Those are the only questions I can think of at the moment. If i screwed something up, or forgot to add something, let me know!
Looks like this is good info (Was unsure myself, so this helps), not sure why no one else would say thanks.
Thanks .
Thanks for leting me know it helped! It quickly disappeared into the depths of unanswered threads, so I figured nobody would ever see it.
thanks
This helped me also, thanks for breaking it down so well.

Since you will only be flashing the radio when you flash the rom, you should use the radio specified on the page where you got your rom.
Since there are so many versions of Android out now, and they only work correctly with the radio which was built for that version, I didn't want to post links and have people downloading the wrong version, then wondering why they have so many problems.
do i hear music with his radio update?

Rephrase that...?
No, no music. The radio update has something to do with connecting to a signal. (I'm not really up on all of this technology, so I can't give you a more detailed explanation). I do know that many times, if you have the wrong radio version, you won't be able to stay connected though.

[Q] Stuck trying to flash radio

Hello,
I'm new to android and have had my Inspire 4g for about 6 months and was finally ready to root it last night using attn1's hack kit. Everything went without a hitch!
I was wanting to update the radio on it, but cannot seem to get it to work, I've tried 2 different radio files and when I try to install the zip file it opens it then cancels the installation. I just tried the radio and instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106324
I'm running Android 2.3.4
Kernel Version: [email protected] #2
Build number: GRJ22-GingerBeast 2.1.2
My main reason for updating the radio is that my GPS isn't really working, it only zeros in when connected to Wi-Fi.
I've been doing a ton of reading, but cannot seem to find the answer I'm looking for to get this installed.
Thanks for any help!
How exactly are you trying to flash the PD98IMG zip file? Are you doing it through CWM? It is supposed to be flashed through H Boot. Put the PD98IMG zip file on your SD card. Do not rename it, extract it, or put it inside any other folders. Power off phone, before doing so make sure fastboot is unchecked. When you power the phone back up press and hold the volume down button and press the power button. the phone will boot up into H Boot and search for a PD98IMG file. If it finds one it will ask you if you want to update and you would press the volume up key to select yes. It will then install the update, (radio files).
Then I was probably forgetting to disable fastboot. I did exactly as you said otherwise, and it never just recognized the file to give me that option to upgrade it.
I've just flashed Revolution to my phone to give that a shot too. This is going to drive me nuts though... I'll never be able to stop trying to perfect my phone now. I never should have rooted.
OK, I'm still stuck. I've tried the above method but it never sees the file. I also tried using "Radio Flash" but I get the error "Failed: remote not allowed" So, I followed the steps and installed Visionary but while it was granted root access, didn't seem to do anything. I tried Radio Flash again and still got the same message.
I'm now running CoreDroid HD V7.0 on LeeDroid 3.15 and I really like it, but I also need my gps/navigation to work properly. I know roms are subjective, but is there something that might work better for me? I tried looking for an updated LeeDroid kernel, but I really don't know what I'm looking for yet.
Thanks again.

If you still have that PD98IMG.zip on your SD card, I would delete it and then re-download the file, put it on the root of your SD card, verify the MD5 checksum, then ensure that Fastboot is unchecked, and power down the phone. Then reboot into HBOOT as Wolf_2 instructed. Make sure you're grabbing the PD98IMG.zip from tribalartgod's thread HERE
I'm thinking that you had a bad download. If you've downloaded a previous file that is also named PD98IMG.zip to your PC, then downloading another file named the same will cause the new file to have a (1) after the name. In this case, if it was put onto the SD card named as such, HBOOT won't flash the file due to the file needs to be named exactly PD98IMG.zip. I've made this mistake before. Clear any/all PD98IMG files off your PC, delete them from your phone's SD card, and just redownload, transer to phone, verify MD5, and if all is well....flash away
Also, have you tried clearing data from the GPS Status app? (if that's what you're using). I've had a few instances where wiping the app's data, clearing cache, toggling airplane mode, and then reopening the app has cured my ills.
Try what dyne said and let us know what happened.
I appreciate your help! I did however find a fix for the GPS on another thread which involved getting RootExplorer and adding a few system files. Works like a charm now. So apparently I was wrong thinking it was the radio that was messing up... what can I say, I've only been rooted for 2 days now.
Last night I tried running the hack kit again to see if I could enable s-off and that hosed my phone so I'm back to GingerBeast again from a restore. Now that I've got the GPS working, it looks like I'll be sticking with this ROM for longer than 4 hours! I need to chillax a bit, this has been very a rewarding but nerve wracking experience.
Thanks again!
If you ran the hack kit originally to get rooted, then you are already S-Off. You do not need to run the kit again. I have tested every version of the hack kit and I never had a problem with it. (The newest attn1 hack kit version is too darn easy.) Something must have happened. Were all anti virus and spyware software turned off? If you were able to restore then you should be fine. As long as you have a back up you can always flash another rom through CWM after you wipe everything to make sure there are no problems.
I had turned off TrendMicro but noticed it was back on again sometime after the rooting process, and never had clicked on it to turn it on. So maybe something triggered it and it screwed up the rooting process? Windows defender was disabled, and I don't have anything else running for spyware/malware.
Just for kicks, if I wanted to go back and re-root, all I'd have to do is start over from step one with the goldcard etc?
The radios I downloaded were from XDA threads, so I felt they were good, but didn't check the MD5 (I know, stupid on my part). I did try about 3 different radios and none would work. Also, I was very careful to make sure I had the name of the zip file correct, so there's no (2) or anything after the name.
The only bummer about the radio is that I'm pretty sure I'm running the stock radio that came with the hack kit, so I'm unable to test others to see if I get better signals or battery life out of another. But this one is doing pretty well, I got 4651kpbs down and 1678up last night... which is good for my house.
Yes, you should be able to just run the hack kit again from the gold card. I always skip that step because I have my gold card image saved so I just put it in the right folder and continue from there. I would also suggest turning off all anti malware software and downloading the whole hack kit again because it may have been corrupted.
Install this RILInfos.apk program on your phone, (created by ZikyHD). It is an easy way to check your radio, Ril, and network settings. The second program you can run on a Windows computer and it is an easy way to check MD5 sums. Go to the radio thread link I provided and you can download the radios and Rils from there. The radios are flashed through HBoot and the Rils are flashed through CWM. Just make sure you don't have any other PD98IMG zip files on your sd card. This thread will give you information on how to do it and it is really easy. Just make sure to follow the directions and check MD5 sums before you flash to make sure you have a good download.
Checking MD5 sums is verifying that the downloaded file is intact and not corrupted. Very important for radios. You don't want anything to go wrong when flashing these. It is also good to check roms also. You can always get a corrupted download and never know it is missing stuff inside or corrupted until it is too late.
One last thing, whenever you flash a new radio and Ril, give it a few days to settle in and then you can start testing to see how it performs.

Just thought I'd throw you a thanks, there wolf_2, you really are an asset to this community, and I admire your seemingly endless supply of patience and willingness to help.
I try, but I don't have as much tolerance as you, and am often times quick to jump on people. I know it, but some days are harder than others...
Thank you, I appreciate it. That's very kind of you to say. You are correct, it's not always easy, but if they are nice, I can be nice also. The opposite can also apply, but I try not to let internet posturing get to me. You are a great asset to the community also. Sometimes you need to be a little strict or else things run rampant. You have provided a great deal of information to people and directed them where they needed to go. (Whether they liked it or not.) Thanks for being around.
I don't know how the saying goes, but I know it works with my kids.... something about having to hear the same thing over a few times before you actually get it.
It friggen worked!
I did everything as mentioned and it installed just fine. I think what I was missing before is I wasn't hitting the BOOTLOADER option.
Many thanks!
You are very welcome. I am glad it finally worked. (Repetition is the mother of learning.)

Thanks back.
Indeed, tone matters. I'm much more likely to help someone without preconditions if they are at least courteous and not demanding, and have shown a least a little effort to try to figure out something on their own first before asking.
I have zero tolerance for 5 new threads within 3 hours asking for answers to stuff that could easily have been found had they just browsed back a page or two in a section, or read the stickied threads.
Very true indeed.

[Q] I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find my current radio? Or..

possibly how to back up my current radio??
My current radio is as follows.. if anyone has an idea where to find it, I would be greatly appreciative.
10.56.9035.00P_10.14.9035.01_M
Sorry if this is already in a thread, but I've searched and have came up empty handed so far. Many thanks!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178143
Didn't search enough
Yeah, I seen that thread, but I'm kind of unsure as to which one that I need. I'm afraid of trying to flash the wrong one and possibly bricking my phone.(if bricking is possible via flashing a new radio) I'm still a bit green on all of this, but I'm always finding myself thumbing through these threads learning all that I can. I'm thankful for the xda forums.. I've learned a lot, up until now as to how to choose the right radio(baseband) for my phone. I want to flash another, but before doing so, I would like to make sure that I have an exact backup of my current radio.

Need new download links for the gt-i9020a uncapped radio's

The posts for new radio's for the 3g version of the nexus S all seem to be dead can someone please upload and link some new radios or even just let me know a good rom that comes with a solid radio because this new nexus S i aquired seems to need a new radio flashed to it.
EDIT: there was a suggestion to flash an old version of android from the 2.3.6 "OTA" bla bla whatever that means. basically this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445621 is full of dead links but looks like it was the most extensive and comprehensive solution for bad radio flashes. but anyways I'm starting to think that this site here needs to start hosting .torrents of all of these files because im running into dead links everywhere its painful.
Either way I need a copy of an working radio still and no progress has been made I have a second nexus S for which I may just simply make a nandroid or w/e backup from recovery and than transfer it over to the new broken device.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1116884
Thanks that post is much better. I dont even know how I didnt manage to find it over the one i did. I applied the radio and did everything I needed to directly from the Clockwork Recovery.

Radio download links?

Hey all, I'm sorry if this seems an odd question, but I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around the process of how the One S gets different features flashed to the device.
I don't have my One S yet (Hopefully it'll arrive later today, 7/27) but I wanted to be prepared when it arrives.
It seems the links are broken in this post and it's stating that this thread is outdated.
If I'm going to flash a new ROM on the device, are the radios generally included in that ROM already? I see that you often times need to manually flash BOOT.IMG on a per-ROM basis due to not having s-off? I'm comfortable with all of that, I just want to make sure that I'm not missing anything, and unfortunately it seems as though there is little information in some of the threads on XDA that clearly answer my question.
Call it a personality defect, I just like to 100% understand something in every possible way before being able to attempt it. Unfortunately when I don't have the device in front of me, it prevents me from being able to do that, but that's what forums are for, right?
Cheers all, I appreciate anyone taking the time to answer my question.

The latest radio with android 4.0.4 rom is said to be much better in terms of performace of wifi and cellular data signal then all previous versions, unfortunately buying a phone at this stage means that you probably will have a later hboot version 1.13 and this hboot doesnt allow flashing radio from recovery like the previous versions. You can find out more info about the radio in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781033
To answer your other question the radio has to be flashed separately from the ROM. Hopefully your phone comes with a lower hboot so flashing wont be a problem, make sure you dont accept the ota update out of the box like i did so u dont accidently get an upgraded hboot. Makes life more diificult ;p.
Its a used phone and is already running CM9, so I'm hoping its the older boot. I already made sure it was the S4, but I just realized that the unlocked phones don't support TMOUS bands, so I'm a bit screwed at the moment.
I don't know what the next step is for me, so I may be forced to move to Straight Talk until I can get another 100% compatible TMOUS phone. I saw it has 2100 HSPA radio frequencies so I had assumed it would work on TMOUS. Needless to say I feel pretty stupid now.
Thanks again for the links, they were exactly what I was looking for!

If you want to get this new radio, the only way to do it at this moment is to change to SuperCID and follow the steps from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781033
