Hi,
today my friend got ICS update in his phone. So I thought I should root my phone and get ICS. I had my phone rooted and then I tried to go to the Odin download mode but I couldn't get it to work and suddenly the phone stopped working. Now it won't turn on AT ALL. I have tried holding the V+ and V- button with the power button. Nothing seems to work. Any ideas?
The only thing that is working is when I plug in the phone I hear a sound.
Thanks

I just returned my phone to Rogers for repair.
Now I got to wait 2 weeks
lets hope the official ICS comes out by then.

Wasn't it the general consensus that the Rogers Galaxy S2 LTE couldn't flash the Odin TAR SKYROCKET ICS leaks? I think that's how it was for UCLD2 and UCLC4(UCLA4?)
Well at least Rogers took the phone back

I wouldn't worry too much. If you didn't tell them you rooted your phone and were flashing custom roms they may not even be able to tell. Sounds like you hard bricked, meaning they'd have to do a jtag which, as I understand it, would overwrite whatever firmware you had on there.

I had a similar thing just happen to me where I tried an Odin One Click which hung then my phone was just dead. I had no sound, video, nothing. The only thing that seemed to be happening was Windows trying to install drivers but failing. I took the phone to an ATT depot and they swapped no questions asked because the phone was DEAD.

u r one lucky person...same thing happened to me and i am trying to get my cappy recognized but with no luck...
Hi,
I just bought a captivate (rogers) 2h ago and was trying to put my phone ready for customization and I had the same long/no moving message under odin.
I removed the phone, and now I have the phone/warning/pc icon and nothing more.
And odin doesn't recognize it at all...
Is it bricked?

use jig...it will go in download mode and u can use Odin3 v1.7 after that
Actually I used this method (from xda) :
1. power off phone
2. remove battery.
3. plug in USB cable to computer and phone (with battery out)
4. hold Vol Up and Vol Down
5. drop in the battery while still holding the vol buttons
6. in 2 secs you'll be in download mode
And now it works!!! Thanks to adzidek!!

Do you have a self built jig (3x 100k resistors) or a USB jig?
USB jib is pretty straight forward, you simply put it in the phone's USB port and it will force the phone into download mode. Whether the phone is on or off doesn't matter. (You do need a charged battery in)

I have to say thank you so much. I have been flashing my captivate for over two years now and have soft bricked it many times but I have always been able to 3-button or buttons with USB cable recover it. Last night my brother asked me to flash his phone to CM10. I agreed to and I was shocked with ODIN failed and got stuck on setting connection. I was even more upset when nothing would put me in download mode.
I stumbled on this thread whilst waiting for radio shack to open this morning and my stock 2.2 ODIN saw the phone! Yay. Now the phone is happily running CM10. I think this is a sign anyways that I should make a JIG anyways. Third time in need of one and yet I always find the most obscure way of getting by without it. I am such a bad elec. eng. to not have make a single usb JIG.
Thank you again for posting this so long ago. And thank you XDA for (putting me in trouble but) always having the solutions to save me.
PS. The only difference in the two phones that I can tell is mine is batch 1012 and shipped stock eclair and his is 1xxx and shipped stock froyo.
I just flashed this rom on ODIN on the pda part of the md5 tar file. I was originally on the heimdall deodex and root rom. I just wanted to flash this to see if it would fix the call log problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146145
Now my phone is semi bricked, none of the combos work, so I am going to buy the JIG. What went wrong, and what do I need to do to correct the flashing process in odin once I get into download mode. Thanks.

Go to the captivate forum and search buy usb jig. I got one for $7.99 and free shipping . All u need is a paypall acct. Or just make one! all u need is a few things from an electronics store and u can do it in like 20 mins. Theres some awesome guides on the web. I bought mine cause im lazy and the free shipping got me sold. Its awesome and pretty much makes it impossible to wreck your device. (not saying you can't hard brick) Pretty hard though unless u don't know what you're doing and being reckless. I think the jig is so cool i use it to get into download mode everytime even when the conventional ways are working! Get the jig! Best 8 bucks i ever spent. Like a form of insurance for the phone.hehe
I have to admit that having the jig has made me a little more adventurous!!
hold vol down and power button without the battery in the phone then insert battery.. IF that combo doesnt work
vol up vol down insert usb
then insert battery.
make sure u have odin up lol cause if u can get it to connect flash even if it fails that will brick it enough to cause a forced download mode on the phone which then u can reflash without to much issue

Sometimes u can soft brick to the point that no method will work besides a jig to get anything to recognize the phone. I would say that out of all of my 20 or so soft bricks on galaxy s phones (captivate, vibrant, sgs 4g,ect) i have had at liest 5 that were not recoverable by any method but the jig! If this is the problem because no method gets you to download mode including not having adb or odin recognize the phone then U WILL NEED A JIG.

Bricked phone 6/28 odin root+deodex 2.3.3
did you reinstall the same rom over the previous one next time go to stock rom and reflash the new one of stock that's what i always do haven't had a problem yet just takes more time that's all
I got the rainbow fuzz after a flash fail and using a different USB port on the computer gave me a connection to reflash.

Not quite sure how to do this as I have never had to but put it into download mode, then Odin it back to stock-you can go to the super thread to get the Odin software. I've read even if your screen doesn't turn on you can still get into download mode.

Yeah. What qkster said. Plug it in and leave it for an hour or two. Then do download mode... It's REALLY hard to brick this thing... And for that there's the unbrickable mod

I'm having the exact issue, after "downgrading" from ICS Passion with GB bootloader, down to stock. The "downgrade" to 2.1 worked fine. Then I used Kies to upgrade to Froyo, and after the install it shutdown, and now the phone doesn't respond to any key. Tried a different battery as well, to eliminate the probably battery issue. No good.
Tried different combos to get to recover/download modes: Vol UP + Power, Vol Down + Power, Vol Up+Vol Down+Power, and Insert Cable+ Vol UP+Vol Down - nothing yet.
Any ideas?
Yea...I have an idea and an question all in one....why and how did you downgrade to eclair??

My sincere apologies - wrong forum. I just checked the forum title, and found out it was for the Infuse, while I thought I was posting on the Vibrant forums. I have a Vibrant, and am having this issue on that phone.
I am not the owner of this phone.
I have a Verizon Galaxy S3 that was rooted using a "teamviewer" like program by a customer and an outside source. After root was "successful" the rom was flashed and the phone rebooted and shut down (as customer recalls it). This phone is running 4.08 on a wall charger through a volt meter and the battery is reading the same if not a bit less. The vibrate during start up does not occur and the lights for charging are not lit up. Any help towards getting this figured out please let me know. Appreciate the help in advance
Well when you pull the battery and put it back and then try to hold volume up, home and power dies it do anything?
Also, when plugged into pc does it ask for any drivers? I'm betting your customer installed an international version ROM and it's hard bricked.

Just to be clear, you are trying to get it to download/recovery mode from the phone being powered off right? It won't get there when its powered on and stuck at "Galaxy S III" screen. Pull the battery and hold down the button combinations until you see "Samsung" with small blue text in the upper left hand corner and as soon as the screen goes black, release the buttons.
It almost sounds like they installed a rom that needed the bootloader workaround.. in which case I'd be stumped at what's needed then, jtag...?

Hello everyone,
I'm in deep trouble with my bricked phone. Yesterday I wanted to flash Cyanogenmod 11 and I was following a video guide on how to do it. The video said to flash TWRP recovery to the phone so that's what I did. I don't believe it said anything about unlocking the bootloader at all. So what happened was I flashed the recovery and the problem said if I wanted to boot into recovery now.
It didn't because a message popped up saying "A program that i not authorized by Verizon was detected on this phone" blah blah blah. And now anytime I tried booting the phone it goes to that message. I can't boot to anything. Yesterday was able to boot into ODIN mode and thought I could flash something or at least wipe my phone completely and start from scratch. Well I went to bed and thought I could pick u from ODIN mode but now my screen won't turn on. When I press the power button, the light nor the screen turns on. Now I have no idea that to do.
Things I've tried:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU5H8NJ7vTM
I tried this twice, once yesterday with a 2 GB non class 10 SD card and the other today with a 16gb Class 10 SD card that matches my 16gb S3.
Odin doesn't recognize my phone and neither does my computer.
I think my only option is to buy a USB Jig to try to get my phone into download again. Is there anyway I can make a USB jtag jig instead of buying? Would anyone in a Verizon Store be able to help me?
I don not care about the data on my phone at all, all I want to make it work again.
Please help, thanks.
I'll stop by the Verizon Store and see if they can help.
Edit: I wasted my time...

That will work, but you don't have to go through the whole flashing boot chain process, I'd use the newer guide ThePagel wrote with the 4.1.2 tar.
You should be able to get into download mode. Power + home + volume down until the blue small text appears in the corner. Then you can let go.

That's what the person said at the Verizon store but I don't believe it at all. The screen was perfectly fine Friday night. I didn't drop my phone at all so that the hardware could have been physically damaged.

You don't need to drop it for it to be broken, they've been known to stick. Lookup YouTube videos on how to unstick the power button.

Okay so I had the phone unplugged and without the battery overnight. I put in the battery and turn it on, phone vibrates and that's it. However, when I plug it in to be charged, now the red LED light doesn't come on and the phone vibrates repeatedly like it's in a boot loop.
How can I tell if my power button it stuck? I can feel the button depress like it should.

There's no way to easily tell, it sounds like it is though. Try to fix it and see if it fixes your phone.
